I'd really like to patronize Spring Valley Barber Shop as I living walking distance in Spring Valley. Once Captain Nemo passed, the shop was vacant for quite a while and the it reopened as SVBS. I tried to use SVBS for 2 years, but finally couldn't put up with the incessant jabber of Eric the barber. Set aside the hygiene or should I say lack of, and the minimalist furnishing from the 1950's, he is a good barber. But he never stopping pontificating and claimed to be an expert on every subject on the planet. To the point he'd stop cutting your hair and stare you in the face rambling on for 3-4 minutes jabbering before resuming your haircut; this would happen 3-4 times during your haircut. If he'd just shut up and cut your hair, you'd be in and out in 1/2 the time and your ears wouldn't be ringing for the next hour. He's had a couple of other barbers in their along the way, but none ever stay, not sure if it's the lack of business or Eric's arrogant "know it all attitude". He's favorite thing is to ask someone a question hoping they don't know the answer so he can try to prove how smart he is,or thinks he is. And if they do have the correct answer, he still press on telling them his answer is better than theirs. On my last visit, I sat waiting for my turn and the way he humiliated the poor guy who's hair he was cutting, ensured it was my last visit. It's exhausting!
