We went through the exhibit and got to see some really incredible displays. We marveled at the displays, wondering how long they took to complete, how many people worked on the display etc. It's just so amazing to see that all the displays were made out of Lego pieces. There were some interactive displays which was nice for the kids since they were unable to touch most of the displays in the exhibit. There's a section where the kids can be master builders and time themselves on how quickly they can complete a miniature display, they ranged from easy, medium and difficult. At the end of the experience there was an entire city made of Legos, with loose lego pieces for the kids to be creative and make their own lego creations. It was a great finish to the experience. This exhibit is every lego master builders dream. It brought me back to my childhood!

I'd heard mixed reviews, with the scales tipping more towards rotten tomatoes... The biggest complaint usually being that it's not worth the money. I will say, the prices are a bit steep for what you get, bluntly. But, take that statement with caution. These days, what IS cheap and/or appropriately priced. It is a bit pricey, but I tell myself that for it to be our only aquarium in Charlotte, they're holding it down, so. ‍ Now regarding the size of the aquarium, don't expect to see huge sharks & whales in these tanks, haha. Don't get me wrong, there were plenty of sharks. I'm just telling you not to go seeking a hammerhead, great white, or anything over 400lbs. Yes, 400 is considered small for a shark. It's a smaller scaled aquarium by all means. For reference, depending on your pace, you can finish the entire exhibits in about 30-40 minutes. However, considering that it's in a mall, there's not much room to criticize or complain about that fact. When we went, the baby of the family was celebrating her birthday, this aquarium hit all the right notes for her & that is good enough of a win for the rest of us, . We did the Beyond The Surface Tour which was a 30 minute guided tour showing the behind the scenes of how the aquariums' water system works, how they prepare food for their residents, etc. ending with an aerial view of the main tank called the Ocean Tank. Seeing the animals from this angle WAS cool, gotta admit. Notably, the staff were extremely friendly and informed. Every employee we encountered was able to give us a fact about the animals or their lives, as well as a good attitude received from every person. In conclusion, I would go again as it was a fun time with family, we all left feeling like we'd had fun, and that's the whole point!

One of the things I especially appreciated is that you can enhance the experience with a visit to the wine bar onsite, Rosie's Wine Garden, where you can grab a coffee, cocktail, or glass of wine and then wander the grounds at your own pace. It adds a relaxed, almost European feel to the whole experience. A quick heads-up: parking can be a bit tricky, as the entrance is off a busy street, so just take your time and be patient when pulling in. Once you're there, though, it's well worth the effort. Bottom line: If you're looking for a small but charming botanical-style garden in Charlotte--a quiet place to reset, reflect, and enjoy the outdoors--this is a lovely little gem. I visited my parents who live near here on Labor Day weekend 2019, and this came up on YELP as…read moresomething to do. They also have a Farmers Market every Saturday during the summer. The Farmers Market is in front with a few booths. I went into the main building to ask about a tour of the buildings, and they only do that on Saturday mornings at 10, but I was more than welcome to walk around. There was a group of musicians playing in the courtyard. All of the buildings looked to be in perfect condition. There were also tractors and other old instruments for the house and farm. I would suggest calling ahead to make an appointment to have a tour. Next time I am in town, I will do that.

I had researched places to see that are fairly close to Charlotte and this was one of the places I…read morefound. I figured my grandpa would appreciate it. He is a treasure hunter and prospector with an appreciation for mining shared by me. But I was hesitant to bring he and my grandma here due to the amount of walking and the stairs in the mine. We came anyhow and had a really good visit. We started in the museum. Just a gentle stroll learing about the history of the mine and gold mining in the region in general. Towards the end of the museum you learn about the modern uses of gold (i.e. space applications). There is also a 9 minute video which goes more into depth on the history of the mine as told by the reenactment. I didn't initially plan on sitting through that but it really was informative. After the video we made our way outside and down to the mine. I kept checking with my grandparents to see if they were ok to keep going. They insisted they were. So we entered the mine and into the cold damp darkness. It was AWESOME. As you trek deeper in, you find off shoots from the main tunnel. Each with its own stuff to see. There is one with a vertical shaft going all the way up to the surface. That is a cool perspective. Finally you reach the end and the those darned stairs. There are many of them and they are not all level. Do your best to hold on and climb your way out. Then you'll find yourself outside about half way up the hill. But wait. There's more. After you exit the mine you can still climb higher up the side of the hill. Up to the top of the shaft you saw from below and beyond. At the very top there is a big smoke stack. A chimney left over from the steam engine used during mining operations. It was an impressive site to behold. Now back down the hill side and back to the visitor center. Our visit was complete but there was more to see. There are more trails to explore. The park also offers gold panning for a small fee. We came across one small lad who was so excited that he found gold. He ran up to my grandpa to show off his treasure. None of us could actually see anything but if this kid found anything, it was the thrill of a life time. This park has that magical way about it.
