Went to a convention in DC and needed some care after sleeping on a terrible hotel bed. . . Mustard Seed Massage to the rescue. They were able to get us in for an appointment. It's located on the second floor of a small building. This is not a fancy place but it is clean and they are all friendly. I also have to say it was the BEST massage I've had in a long time! I wish I had time to go back before going home. The other amazing thing a 1 hour massage is exactly that!! They start on time and end exactly on the hour. This was the worst massage I've ever had in my life. I get massages quite frequently. I went here based on some of the Yelp reviews. I was in pain & really needed a massage. They put me with someone named Xavier. He isn't even listed on their website, there's no business card at the counter for him. He kept going over the same areas, not knowing how to work out any of the troubled spots on my body. I tried to politely tell him, but that didn't work either. There's no way he is a licensed massage therapist. He put half the bottle of oil on my body. I tried to wipe as much off before I left. It was so bad it ruined my shirt, because the oil stains all over it. I'm so disappointed, and if he is licensed, shame on you for not training him properly, or not use your paying clients for his trails. I appreciated how they checked in on pressure and worked into specific areas of our bodies that were particularly tense due to working at desks all day. The room had a nice ambiance, was relaxing, and there was nice music playing. I also really liked the massage tables, they were very comfy and the sheets were so soft! I wanted to sleep there afterwards. I will definitely be back. It's great that they have specials for people who come in frequently and specials for people who pre-pay. I've been dealing with a bad cold for almost a week, but my congested sinuses and body aches didn't go away even after I got a lot of rest and felt more energized. I have been here a few times when they were located on M Street NW. It's always easy to get in and book a last minute appointment which I appreciate. Recently I was having an issue with pain in my right shoulder and neck that was really bothering me for a few days. I have been very strict during quarantine and besides masked, social distancing outside with friends and trips to the grocery store and CVS, I have been inside. I was nervous about breaking out of quarantine to get a massage but I was in so much pain that I went for it. Mustard Seed Massage did a great job of making me feel safe and comfortable the entire time I was there. There is an extensive form to fill out ahead of time, my temperature was taken upon arrival, everyone had masks on, there was able hand sanitizer and new air filters in the lobby and the massage room. The entire check-in and check-out experience was also contactless. Now to the massage, this was my first time seeing Stan and he was exactly what I needed. I've never really chatted during massages before but Stan and I had ended up chatting here and there and it was a great combination of relaxation, learning new things and getting to know each other. He read my chakras and he shared the background on each of them, which was definitely some food for thought, while also giving me the most incredible massage. The therapists and those at the front desk were all friendly and welcoming, even after we came late (parking was hard to find in the area and we ended up having to park at one of the hotel parking lots). It was easy to use their booking system online. Overall, the facilities were great and while I would've liked harder pressure, we enjoyed our massages and would consider going back. Do not get a prenatal massage here! Go to native beauty in eastern market and ask for Linda. I made the mistake of going here when Linda wasn't available and was very disappointed. I paid $130 for a 75 minute massage and was shorted on time. The massage itself was very underwhelming and not like any massage I've ever received before. The person who massaged me basically just rubbed very quickly over the same area on my back. The massage was not relaxing, it was bright in the room and they did not have a pregnancy pillow for me to lay on my side. Instead I was given two small pillows to put my head on and put one in between my legs, but nothing to relax my arms on. Let me start with that the studio is very clean and everyone was friendly. My friend got a massage that she enjoyed, I was jealous. UPDATE: :::The manager reached out to me and apologized and offered a free massage but since I am visiting from out of town he kindly refunded me what I paid for the massage and emailed me my receipts::: My massage however was not great, I'm sure my body benefited from the rub down but it was uncomfortable and awkward. My dad is a masseuse and I can definitely handle more pressure than most, but this guy was applying deep pressure all over the place, he used his elbow the length of my back and kept smashing my face down into the head support and elbowing my jaw. He was rushing and fumbling and his legs were slipping and hitting the walls. I was literally rocked on the table, and I had to stiffen up to keep myself on the table, my arms kept wanting to fall down and I had to stabilize myself. He pinched my traps and pulled which was very painful and was poking my skin with his nails. He did not pay attention to any specific points and the massage was unequal, he spent a lot of time on my right side and then quickly rubbed down my left side (felt like 3 minutes) and then slapped a PIPING hot towel on my back and told me to come out when ready. When I came out to pay he asked "who was your massage therapist today?" And I was like "YOU" ‍‍. He asked if I want my receipt printed or emailed, I said email please and I still haven't received it (yes I checked my junk folder). He didn't tell me his name, he is a skinny blonde guy, I looked on the website to find him but they don't list their employees. It was pretty bad and I'm feeling bruised today. read more
