I've been to the Mustard Seed Restaurant a few times. I always went away happy. The cooking is excellent. The portions of food is enough. The waitresses are very nice people. It is not in the North Town Mall. But it is just outside of it. It seems to be a new building. The food there is great. The prices of the food is affordable there. I haven't been to the Mustard Seed very often yet. But I love the place. And I have every intention of returning again and again. read more

Leaving another review because we decided to go back, I was appalled by the service we received. My family went there last night for a celebration dinner. We waited over an hour for our food. When I brought this to the staff's attention, a comment was mumbled by a staff member as I walked away that it wasn't an hour. I just wanted Sweet & Sour pork tonight & ordered that w/ Seasoned rice for pick up off the website. It was super easy to order & pay on their website. They have a separate entrance for to go orders which was convenient. The pork was crispy and the pineapple was delicious but I don't think their sweet and sour sauce was what I was looking for. I didn't want the red sweet and sour sauce, I was looking for the very dark brown type? There's is a brown sweet and sour sauce but it's definitely their own recipe, not the typical brown sweet & sour you get from Americanized Chinese restaurants. It was alright & I ate it all, again, just not what I was craving. Also the rice didn't seem seasoned. I think next time I'd try something different. read more

When leaving the NT Mall this afternoon, I decided to try The Mustard Seed To Go Side of the restaurant. My order was taken quickly. Not a long wait, at all. The gentleman taking my order was helpful in steering me to what I wanted. Very polite and courteous. He advised me that my order would be ready in approximately 20 minutes. It was ready in about 15 minutes. I ordered the dinner, not the bowl, of Chicken Osaka with the Mustard Seed seasoned white rice. It was so good. Really delicious. I walked through the restaurant to get to the To Go Section and I liked what I saw. Customers in the restaurant and the bar were smiling and having a good time. Until my order was ready, I paid attention to the customer service and it was great. Everyone was friendly, attentive and efficient. I will return. I was pleased. Thank you. read more

It's funny how when I thought that Mustard Seed was a standalone Asian inspired restaurant in Missoula Montana, it impressed me a lot more than when I found out that it is a large chain with franchises. Regardless, I remember liking the MT location so well that I decided to stop into the Spokane location on a work trip. This one is not a standalone building but located in the mall. On this visit, I observed a few things that both locations share that I hadn't paid much attention to on my other visit. The staff is friendly and attentive. No issues there. The food was really good too but overall, I can't decide what the cuisine actually is. It's not traditional Chinese fare. More or less a new hybrid evolution of Chinese food. I was a bit disappointed with my Gyoza. The menu says Japanese style, but they came out with no crispy side whatsoever. I'm used to soft dumplings but they usually have a crust on one edge so that left me wanting. Another thing that I don't care for is the atmosphere of the place. It is a large mostly open space that just feels a bit cold. Sort of like a cafeteria. I hate to compare but given the choice between the two, I'd choose P.F. Chang's over Mustard Seed any day. They are very similar in a lot of ways, but the atmosphere is much warmer and inviting at Chang's. Overall, not a bad place for some pretty good food. I forgot that they serve family style and ended up with a lofty check for one. They definitely don't forget to charge. the tofu on my Osaka bowl was burned. the chef tried to hide the burnt pieces under the other but the burnt sides were charcoal tasting l accidentally ate one. I reviewed this with the server and she said due to mother's day they were short on cooks. she did apologize without any compensation for the poor quality. read more

This one of my favorite restaurants and has been for years. They originally started out in Missoula - my hometown. They have an amazing asian inspired menu with many options to choose from. Our favorites are Beef Teriyaki, Chicken Osaka, Bong Bong Chicken, and Maui Chicken. As for appetizers, they are all amazing. We recently ordered via delivery on the Toast app so we could enjoy our favorites at home. However, their restaurant is amazing. It's always clean and inviting and the service is the absolute best. It's located at Northtown Mall. The only drawback can be parking, depending on when you go. This is a restaurant to definitely add to your list! read more

Restaurant Week!!! Wings were 4 very large meaty drums with (I chose) the Big Island sauce with ranch on the side. Incredibly delicious! Try with and without the ranch dressing - two totally different tastes! Chose the Beijing Beef for my entree. The best most tender pieces of lightly breaded bite sized cubes of beef with onions & red bell pepper, light sprinkling of peanuts. Unbelievably tender! But the crowning glory was the Asian Cannoli. OMG! I've had the real thing on a trip to the east coast at an authentic Italian bakery, but these blow those out of the water!!! Two large crispy stuffed cannolis with the most luscious mascarpone cream filling. Have never had anything like them, soooo good! My only suggestion would be to dip each end in a mixture of the nuts. Hadn't been in quite some time but have always had great meals here...until today. Just a disaster. Lettuce cups were almost inedible, soggy mess of something with no flavor. Spicy peanut chicken had absolutely zero spice, maybe two peanuts, and the chicken, peppers and onions tasted like they had been boiled for a week, completely lacking in any flavor whatsoever. We ordered take out from mustard seed a month ago and were disappointed. It wasn't the same distinct flavor they had previously. They ran a special recently, buy one get one free. We decided to give them another chance. Everyone has an off night. This time we dined in. But, Unfortunately that was not the case. When you use pea pods they need to have the ends snapped off and the string removed. The sauces tasted like they came from a bottle. I ordered wontons. They were not correctly sealed, just folded over. So most of the filling leaked out. The only thing they had going for them was the service. needless to say we won't be back. read more

Lunch is solid. The chicken Osaka is the best. About $15 for lunch entree. I was full. This is always a good choice.

Decent asian food, if your in the mood for Noodle Express this is pretty much the same kind of food. It's inside the Northtown Mall downstairs and waaaay better quality then the food court food. Never ever ever ever get the mall food court food unless its busy there because the food will be sitting out for hours but Mustard Seed is always fresh no matter what. What happened to the Mustard Seed? I used to go here 2-3 times a week when I lived in Spokane. Came here today while in town...it was like eating at a completely different restaurant. I should have known something wasn't right, when there were only a few other tables occupied. They gave enormous portions of rice, hoping people won't notice that they skimp on the protein. Everything appeared to have been previously frozen. Chewy chicken and pork. All our dishes lacked any flavor. Super disappointed. read more

Ate lunch here and it is an Asian fusion restaurant that was very good. The portion size and flavors were excellent. I ordered the Singapore beef and although it was typical stir fried, the flavors were very good. As a bit eater it may be a bit small, but ended up getting dessert too. I'm surprised by 2 things. One, that no one has posted pictures of the Almond, Sweet & Sour, Teriyaki chicken and the Pork Wantons. And two, the bad reviews. I look forward to coming here, I love the food. This place is a definite favorite. The almonds chicken is amazing. I prefer individually battered pieces to the whole breast. They do it right. The seasoned rice is also great, nice and buttery. The pork wantons are an excellent starter. In the many times that I've been to this place, I don't think I've ever had bad service. I wish they would put a location Downtown or South Hill. At least a Noodle Express closer to the South Hill would be awesome. read more

My first visit to The Mustard Seed was not fabulous nor very good. I contacted management and told them about my visit and how bad the food was. I was listened to and was sent a gift card to come back and try it again. My husband and I decided to try it again in March 1st after a movie. We got spring rolls to start with, they were ok, the dipping sauce wasn't good at all. Then we received our main entrees, I had the Pad Thai and my husband had the chicken and pork noodles. This is where the restaurant redeemed themselves. The dishes were very good and very fresh, total 180 from our last visit. Also our server Brittnee D was fantastic! She was friendly and made sure we had what we needed and even knew we would need take home boxes and had those at our table as we were finishing up. Overall I do believe that they listen to their customers and when they don't serve the best food they have the chance to fix it! read more

I'm totally embarrassed for this place. Our stater was the dynamite shrimp. The batter had mostly fell off in the fryer. The sauce was decent. I had the Singapore beef thus was a tasteless dish and the beef was supposed to be tenderloin but was more like stew meat, it was tough and had gristle and was way overcooked. My wife's sweet and sour chicken was too sweet and tasted like the sauce was out of a jar. We were seated in the bar without being asked if it was ok. The service was done by the bartender so very slow because she's busy making drinks. The bar was loud with the typical people that hang out in bars. Pass over this place, they charge premium price for food that is worse than what you can get from your frozen food section at the grocery store. read more

Used to be a favorite of ours. Just two of us, and 25 minutes inall we had was a glass of water after 15 of those minutes. Didn't s serve our drinks we asked for when we first sat down. Didn't take our orders. Restaurant was mostly empty but they seated us at a table right next to a large group of people. How can a group of 12 people overwhelm a restaurant that probably seats 100? I've been going to the Mustard Seed since it opened 45 years ago. I was there a month ago and the Restaurant did not have Air Conditioning. It made the experience bad. Then I had an out of town friend in town and wanted to take her there. Yesterday was 104 outside. Again no AC. A real health and safety issue for workers, especially in the kitchen! Food was absolutely awful. Not only was the restaurant hot, the workers were not in the best moods due to heat! The bar conditioning is the Northtown Malls fault! But the Manager should have closed restaurant due to unhealthy environment. It was hugely disappointed all around! read more

I am very sad to say the quality has really gone down. I had the almond chicken meal yesterday (5/25). I should have taken a picture to show not only the small portion but how it didn't even look like almond chicken. It tasted okay but for the price we should have at least a decent serving.
