This coffeeshop/book-recordstore/info-cafe/indie-hipster scene initially looks really neat upon entering its premises, but when it comes to engaging in customer service - THE OWNERS HAVE THE WORST ATTITUDE I'VE EVER ENCOUNTERED! I work for a non-profit that caters to handicapped individuals and simply asked the barista (one of their older owners who's perhaps the rudest person I've ever encountered behind a register) about their board games and he basically told me to get away from the game area and either order something or leave. I simply tried to clarify that I was asking on behalf of my "HANDICAPPED CLIENTS" and he proceeded to kick me out! Went back after a week to complain to another owner - only to receive the same evil/rude/arrogant attitude. These guys are terrible at human relations/customer service/being nice and I will never forget how humiliated I felt after simply asking about their freakin board games. Little advice to the pathetic owners of Mutiny - if you treat customers like crap for asking a simple question, why are you in a customer service type business to begin with - don't have board games visibly off to the side if you don't want someone to approach that area!! I'll dissuade anyone from ever visiting this horribly insulting business - and am looking forward to the day they fold! read more

Really unique and fun place with a lot going on! The coffee shop isn't cheap, but definitely worth it. I got a thai iced tea and my friend got a caramel latte. Both drinks turned out great and the service was quick and friendly. There's tons of music, books, magazines, and memorabilia to browse. They allow plenty of business cards/show flyers/etc to be displayed. Prices are all reasonable and I was easily entertained for a while just looking around. My advice if you stop in is to have some time so you can check everything out, otherwise it may seem overwhelming. There are seating areas in the front and back, so while there is a lot of stuff everywhere, I still think it seems like a relaxed date or study spot. Mutiny's overall vibe is welcoming and artistic, and I'm looking forward to returning. read more

Twice within the past two months I've witnessed the owners straight up harassing homeless people. Last night, my partner and I abandoned our chess game early because one of the owners was verbally harassing this homeless man who was inside and it was a huge bummer to witness. For an establishment that claims to be an "anarchist bookstore", they sure act like authoritative, corporate assholes. Shit, even Starbucks allows homeless people to sit inside and warm up as long as they aren't bothering anyone. They even hand out cups of water. This dude repeatedly kept saying, "You sit in here and suck up my energy for hours (he was quietly charging his phone, was not being disruptive by any means, and was extremely apologetic) but the owner kept on harassing him. He said "you people think you can just sit in here for free. Well you're sucking up my energy and I'm fucking sick of you." It was extremely aggressive and uncalled for. They weren't even busy. About a month ago, we saw the other owner (with the facial hair) physically grab a homeless man, throw him out, and scream at him outside--seemingly again for no reason (this dude was super passive and it was just so sad to watch). If you don't want someone in your store, there's a way to ask someone to leave while letting them keep their dignity. read more

I came in here cause I heard they had comic books. It's a funky place, definitely different. Music beats going on with lots of records to check out and some comic books. There are some older comics but nothing that stands out. The current section seemed to have all current books so you can find those you need. There were shirts and vintage items and lots of books. Worth a check out and see if you like anything. I was in here for about 30 mins and not once did someone ask if I needed help. I didn't but a greeting would have been nice. Oh well! read more

Funky little spot with a plethora of goodies for the geeky soul! My friend and I were on south Broadway and came across this store. It looked interesting so we decided to check it out. It's a decent size store but filled with so many things it gets a little cramped. Upon entering there is seating and a little cafe type area and the checkout area. As you move farther back there is a nice selection of vinyls ranging in price. Then you hit the new and old comics section, books, pinball machines and games. In the very back is another seating area where you can play games and listen to music! There is so much too take in its a tad overwhelming. If you like this kind of stuff you could easily spend hours perusing all there is too see! My friend was surprised at the choice of comics both new and old. I went straight for the book section and found a few that intrigued me. I love board games and really enjoyed that you could sit down with a group of people, grab a beverage and play the games that were provided. People seemed to have a blast with the pinball machines as they were constantly in use the entire time we were there. There was a bit of 80s and 90s throwback paraphernalia which was fun to see! All in all it was a pretty fun experience, I'm sure I will be back to peruse all the store has to offer and maybe grab a hot tea! read more

This is one of the first places I visited when I moved here. They have every comic that I read, and if they don't they're sure to get it in w/in a reasonable time frame. The coffee is always amazing, and their other book selections are fun to peruse through, as well as fairly priced. Don't forget the records up front too! Yeah, it's cool to see that South Broadway is still a little weird and this place embodies that. That being said, for the prices, I'm not impressed with the weak, bland dirty chai I got today, and definitely not impressed with the dreadlocked barista who was adjusting the mop on her head while making coffee. Called in today looking for an Elvis/gospels record. The guy didn't offer to go look in the bin and implied that they had a lot of Elvis records and over 1000 records in the shop. When I got there and asked the guy if he worked there he said "no" sarcastically. They had one Elvis record. We had driven from 30 minutes away, looked for parking for 20 minutes for something that would've taken the guy one minute to check in the bin for us. Cool shop but poor customer service. read more

I went to this store for the first time to buy some new records because I heard amazing things about it and when I went in I had to ask 3 different times to use the restroom because the guy behind the bar insisted I didn't ask the right questions and when I told him I forgot my glasses and can't see that well and if he could show me where thE key was his response was that's why I made this big key RIGHT HERE! Absolutely a wonderful spot! These guys are doing great things and serving my favorite : Pablo's Coffee ( in fact I think they do Pablo's better than Pablo's! ). The service was great, the guys were all happy to be there and were all chatting up their customers. The vibe is mellow and polite. They are keeping hours until 4am on the weekends and now bringing in djs and events. I love how they set up a cafe in a bookstore! Go check it out and fall in love! Great things and great people! While we were getting our coffee another gentleman walked up and told the owner that he was pleased with what they were doing with the place and I agree - they are definitely doing something right. Coffee addicts unite. Mutiny served up the best iced soy latte I have had in Denver. Right down to the coffee ice cubes this was the absolute best. The barista was super friendly and you can browse the eclectic book selection while they whip it up for you. Bonus they are open till 3 on Saturday night! I want to say something bad about this place but all I've got is that I don't live close enough. (Just kidding, I hate having something bad to say about a place). I love the Baker neighborhood and Broadway in general, and after spending so much of my time (for work) in the highlands, I gravitate to that area any day off, or free time I get. First off, most of this neighborhood is known these days as being "hipster" (whatever that even means anymore) but it hasn't always been that way. I can remember a few years back, running around the streets, dodging homeless people and drunks who are sprawled out galore but Mutiny is a place that I have always known to take cover in when I want to get off the streets. It's quiet more often than not, and their coffee menu isn't overwhelming like most new coffee shops these days. It's a great place to have a seat and read, write, or people watch just for the hell of it. The staff here is always welcome and warm but not fake by any means, which I find to be comforting and genuine. I spend a lot of time in most businesses on this strip, but Mutiny will always be an old favourite. read more

This is my favorite spot on S Broadway. It seems counter-intuitive, but setting up the definitive hipster/intellectual spot amidst the numerous trendy businesses popping up on S. Broadway seems completely honest, authentic and pure. Mutiny is not trying too hard, but it is way cool. The inventory of books, comics, and records is enough to get lost in for hours. The pinball machine is a nice touch too! Live music, great coffee that will keep you up all night and dozens of other amusements make Mutiny a great place to just hang out at and watch the people pass by. Dark and grundgy, but I loved it. They are dog friendly and allow pets inside! LOVE that! The coffee shop made amazing americanos. The person working was super nice and friendly. I went in for the books but enjoyed the coffee. Nice section of 8 rows of Sci Fi books plus various other books, posters and vinyl. Had a 32 ounce French press for $5 that was delicious. This place has a fun retro vibe to it! There aren't too many places you can get this selection of books, vinyl records and the odd assortment of gems you can get there. Plus i appreciate the variety of events they have. They have music, comedy, movies, and talks on all kinds of subjects. It's a cool kind of eclectic! The staff is always friendly. Fantastic place. They sell records and rare/unique books, as well as classics, comic books, and a great selection of history and art books. They environment is wonderful, and they have a little coffee/tea and cookie bar. The staff is really nice and laid back, as well as helpful. They regularly have live shows, and recently my friends and I stopped by there and had a great interactive experience with a band playing. First they an improv song based of my random subject of reptiles and crocodiles, then they serenaded my poor friend Amy with a personalized song. Afterwards they had a female blues style singer go around the room doing capella, and she singled out my male friend as her handsome prop man. I laughed so hard it hurt, and all my friends had a wonderful time as well. I highly recommend this place for shenanigans, entertainment, and a fantastic selection of books and records. They also have a great selection of local art on display, for sale. Don't miss out, and give them a visit on one of your weekend forays. read more

I used to shop at this location in the mid 1990s when Ichabod's Books & Mrs Crane's was here. Mutiny is the same idea (books, records, espresso), only slightly smaller now that the rental space has been split up into a few units. I come here mostly for the used records, which take up about three double-sided bins plus some under stock. Many used stores that don't specialize in records will price everything the same regardless of condition or desirability, which results in some items being under priced but most items being overpriced. Mutiny does not take that approach. Instead, Mutiny actually tries to price items appropriately, and takes condition, desirability and rarity into consideration. They might miss the mark sometimes, but usually the prices are still good. More importantly, Mutiny has two bargain bins, one with $1.00 records and another with Two-For-$5.00 records. These are typically your less-desirable titles, or records with condition issues. This is a great way to discover new music or purchase records that still sound good but that have tattered sleeves. read more

Pretty solid atmosphere if you're a comic book or vinyl head or just enjoy some pretty good coffee. Said coffee is about the same price anywhere else and the iced caramel flavored drink that I grabbed was so-so... but hey, having a book store, vinyl store and coffee shop all in one is pretty epic, so they get a pass on that. I'm not much of a coffee aficionado anyway... I, like may other reviewers was instantly enamored with the atmosphere.. It is soooo cool in this place and your eyes will dart out of your skull canvassing the inside. There's just a whole bunch of cool stuff everywhere. I didn't really browse the books much but they definitely have a nice variety. Whether they carry the hard-to-find and out of print stuff, or even brand new stuff, I cannot say. The same goes for their records, which I did sift through. Seemed like that day most of their stock was vintage rock, alternative, blues and punk records. There was a smattering of soul and pop stuff too though.. they weren't really organized if I remember correct so do prepare to dig through them all. I liked that there was a long table top that ran adjacent to the window facing out toward Broadway. If you wanted to just plop down and write or open up your laptop while the foot and car traffic outside buzzed by you could totally do that. Very interesting place, probably not for the ultra hardcore vinyl heads hunting records, but totally for the book reader's and coffee house loungers! I also saw that Mutiny serves as a venue of sorts for live music and even like open mic type events. I'm sure that it serves as a very intimate setting for both. This place is easily the coolest coffee house on Broadway. read more
