Books, music, coffee, comics. You name it, and they've probably got it. I wouldn't be surprised if they had a live zoo in here to be honest. Me personally, I love their music collection. A solid but not intimidatingly big selection of old and well priced vinyls to browse through. I've gotten more than a few quality records here, and never for more than a few bucks. Can't beat that these days. Pretty often they'll have events going on in the shop as well. Live music, radio shows, authors, you name it and they've got it. It's hard to rate a place like this mainly because they have multiple concepts and components functioning at the same time. It's a record shop with a coffee shop inside. This review pertains to the coffee shop only! They had recently brought in ginger turmeric chai tea latte. I asked for just two shots of espresso and steamed ginger turmeric chai tea steamed up. I thought it was just a pipe dream until I saw this place. It is all of the above described.... and more. I bought a used book here. I perused the buttons and patches and old music records. I saw the graffiti on the walls and I bought a coffee from the back bar. If I lived in Denver, this would be my home. I would sit in their chairs at their front tables and I would read comic books and surf the web and buy coffee all the time. This place is all that and more. read more

It's a shame I waited so long to enter Mutiny. I have lived four blocks away from S. Broadway for about 9 months now. 9 months too long without perusing the dusty bookshelves housed with a wide variety of reads. It seems every book in here is used, making it even more charming, and waiting to be picked up and read in the oh-so cozy corner in the back or by the coffee shop inside. I hear the coffee is actually downright delicious - creating an even bigger reason for me to return for the long haul. I am thinking a full day camp out with books, coffee, and records. Oh - yes, half the store is comprised of old records, as well. The aesthetics are reminiscent of an old professor or scholar's office or perhaps a magical book store that has a secret hallway in the back that leads to some sort of magical cult gatherings. Whatever the secret group is - I want to drink the Kool-Aid. This is a local store at its finest. read more

So this is my new favorite bookstore! Well, "used" books that is, under the inconspicuous name of "Mutiny Information Cafe," you might easily mistake it for something completely different were it not for the vintage pulp books and eerily interesting Cyberpunk industrial art sculpture on display in the window. This place has the most unusual and eclectic mixture of vintage antique artifacts like old record turntables and typewriters and neo-noir I've seen including a Ripley's Believe It Or Not! and a Dark Knight pinball machine! A freaking Dark Knight pinball machine! WANT! There's also a midievel throne, piano, and a creepy Cyberpunk mannequin there to assimilate you into the Mutiny Information society collective. Resistance is futile! They have quite a healthy selection of used books from just about every genre across the board and at very reasonable prices. They also have an impressive selection of used vinyl records that will take you back in time. And of course there's the cafe for coffee, teas and sodas for your biological consumption. Relax in a comfy couch or just chill in a chair like Morpheus while you assimilate a good book or interface the free Wi-Fi network while downloading information wirelessly into your mobile devices. Mutiny has you! Mutiny Information Cafe is the BEST bookbar I've been to in Denver. It's located along the strip of South Broadway within blocks of a few other recommended used bookstores, antique dealers and coffee shops and directly across the street from Happy Coffee on the corner of Ellsworth. Dark, gritty, and grungy. Used books are so charming and this is the best bookbar in Denver. staff is friendly and informative. Just plan informed- the counter person always has some tidbit of knowledge on whatever book or record I happen to be buying. The coffee is solid and the pinball machine is always in working order. I recently discovered they are dog friendly too! Which is great because my dog thinks he's a people and goes into a full blown depression if I leave him outside of stores. read more

I'm loving the changes in this place! it's open all the time now, with lots of old crazy books and records, and I've seen some live music on weekends there. Super relaxed vibe of happy, informative people working and just hanging out there. Most importantly, though, the coffee shop is great. When they make iced coffee, they freeze coffee into ice cubes, so your coffee doesn't get watered down when they melt. Perfect, plus actual quality coffee. A really nice, store and coffee shop. They have everything for a geek. Collectable comic books, posters, weird records, music, live music events, cool books. This joint reeks coolness, did I mention they are open super late, and have free wifi. Do you really want anything else? Last lime I was in I spent an hour listening to strange records, get down. Found this place by accident while checking out Denver for practically my first time. I was pretty skeptical about Denver but after I walked in this place I knew I had found a spot I could truly cherish. I've never been into a cooler shop in my life before. They had really good reads in Fiction, Non-fiction, feminist studies, historical fiction... You name it, they probably had at least a small section. I was impressed that they had a poetry fixture which for me, is a tell all sign of whether the book shop is worthy of my validation. It was really cool that they didn't just have "100 great love poems" books like most used book stores and instead had a lot of local and semi-current writers as well as some classics. Beyond that, they had sections for some of my other favorite things like comics, vinyl, and limited print zines and local comics. They even had a cafe. This place was literally heaven. I wish I could have spent more time there, but unfortunately I was pressed for time. I ended up purchasing a local zine and a local poet's chapbook, which mind you, is exactly what I was looking for when visiting another city's book store. I chatted for a bit with the employee there who was both friendly and cute which, ya know, is always a plus. I'll definitely be back! read more

A really cool spot! Definitely a place where you feel welcome to explore, I liked the maximalist environment and the drink bar. I wish I could give this place 5 stars, but I couldn't find a book I wanted. From my understanding they have used and new books, but it was hard to tell which was which and what any of the pricing was. If I had more time or this was a local spot for me, however, I'm sure this would be different! It's still very worth checking out. read more

Upon arriving I was completely overwhelmed by all of the many different things to do and see. This is not just a place to buy stuff.... this is a place to experience culture.. sure, you can buy a piece of it if youd like, but there is so much more to offer here. The night I attended, there was an art exhibit/poetry reading/ congregation of compassionate souls. Renick, the featured artist of the night, laid his soul and life bare to all who came to hear. The lens theough which he described his perception of the world was both personal and universal. Great experience! read more

Pre-Covid 19 MIC was my daily hangout. I had just gone through a rough time and like millions of others at the beginning of the years my job was impacted. Mutiny was still open and the staff were great and so welcoming. Happy to say I'm back on my feet and am grateful for a new job and was in the area and noticed the MIC was open for biz so I went in and used a gift card. Tried to go in today and get a bagel and both times treated so badly - like I was a leper by the actual owner of the joint. Not sure what's going on with him but he needs to step back and let his amazing staff service customers - cause he clearly showed twice how much he hates life right now and mad at the fucking world he is. He needs to realize the whole fucking world is going through a tough time and that we should all be there to lift each other up and not treat other fellow human beings like shit like he did to me twice. Walked in on a whim looking to browse the books and stayed for the pinball. I don't know why more bookstores don't have pinball because once I saw these two combined I thought it was brilliant. I did like the music selection process playing and the uniqueness of the shop. After playing a few games I did browse the books and found the selection to be a miss. Matt & Jim are "barista bounty hunters" and they wanna take your taste buds into custody and rustle up a dank, delicious, savory and a down right party in your mouth experience! The atmosphere is spot-on cozy and coming at you raw, like your grandma's 1950's taupe tweed couch on a nice, warm South Broadway starry night. When it comes to books, coffee, comics, snacks and all around fun memorable decor,..."this is where the magic does happen." The only thing that comes remotely close, is riding a unicorn bareback through an ocean of Skittles while listening to David Hasselhoff whisper how rad you are in your ear. This place is pretty rad. I recently moved here from San Diego and this is the first place that kind of feels like home. The vibe is great and I love having a place to buy comics that I don't have to go all the way to Mile High. However, that being said, I will say I think their comic section needs help. A lot of the comics are out of place and they aren't ordered by issue. I also bought a pretty expensive Captain Marvel comic and the outside sleeve was sticky and gooey...not really how I like to see comics treated. The guy behind the the counter was super nice though and did change the sleeve out for no charge. Overall, super great place to just chill on a weekend afternoon. read more

I had to ask several times for him to set up the wi-fi, and he finally did but reluctantly and only after long conversations with his friends that stopped in to chat. The store is a neat random collection of books and records. However, my first experience here was bittersweet. When I tried to enter the establishment, the door was blocked by a mass of people. It was highly frustrating to spend 10 minutes to get into the door. Staff did nothing to help. I'm pretty sure that this isn't the norm based on positive comments my friends have said about this place. Once inside, I enjoyed browsing through the assortment of books and records. I would try this store again when it's not packed with musicians and their audience. read more
