Before they brought him out, they warned us about how he looked. He had come in starved and severely matted. When he came out what we saw was a friendly, happy dog. He knew they had saved him. He came home with us that day! They sent us home with a container of special food for him. Since then we have been back for a weigh in and check up, an injured leg (he hurt it having too much fun), and neutering. Each time he was welcomed enthusiastically and with much love. The vet (Dr. Anna) took her time to talk with us answering all our questions. The day after surgery the shelter called us to make sure he was recovering well. All communications with Homeless Pets and in particular Susannah have been positive, helpful, and timely. If you are looking to adopt a pet, I can't recommend Homeless Pets enough!

Don't recommend this pet rescue at all. They lied about the dog's health and didn't give any…read morerecords at pickup. The dog was bleeding from its bottom the first day and after notifying the rescue who also has a vet on site, they only said "it will clear up". A vet never called to check on the dog or asked to see it. Once they got their adoption fee and got rid of the dog, they didn't want anything else to do with it. They claim they get dogs healthy for adoption which is completely false. After multiple messages to the rescue and getting no where, I took the dog to my vet who performed a $2500 surgery the same week. I gave the rescue an opportunity to make it right, and they refused to compensate for any of the cost. Very disappointed in a local rescue who claims to be looking out for pets. These are the facts, and they know what they did was very wrong.

Brandy is a perfect fit for us and so loving. We have boarded her twice at Our Pals Place and their attentiveness to our questions, or instructions on what our Brandy eats. They let us bring her bed, blanket, toy, food and meds. Gigi, the Owner and Director is on site, and she makes everything so easy. We were on vacation, and we received two photos of our Brandy playing with large and small dogs. They introduced her to others slowly to make sure all was alright. Our Pal's Place is by far #1 in our book for this area. Privately run and not a large corporate boarding facility. I cannot say enough. Thank you, Gigi and your staff.

We found a beautiful German Shepard mix today at the Dollar Store up the street. We could tell the…read moredog belonged to someone because the dog looked very well cared for (the dog looked to be at least 80 pounds or more) but its obvious he is lost. The poor guy kept going up to every car in the parking lot hoping he would bump into someone he knew. At one point he actually ran toward the main intersection and we actually had to run out to grab him. After a quick search on Google we found Our Pal's and decided to bring the lost dog here to see if we can find his owner. We talked to Gigi the owner who was so nice and helpful. She gave us the name of a vet down the street (Shallowford Animal Hospital) who could check to see if he is chipped. We could tell Gia cared about our lost dog and even gave us a really strong leash to use... Thanks to Our Pal's we were able to find the lost dog's owner. Thanks Gia and the staff here....you guys are an animal's best friend.

Frankly, I'd avoid Good Mews. Despite their mission, my experience left me believing the…read moreorganization is no more inclusive than groups that openly exclude people. It has taken me months to write this because it was one of the most demeaning volunteer experiences I have ever had. I joined Good Mews in January 2026 as a volunteer and was selected for the medical committee, my first-choice assignment. I assisted with evening medications including pills, eye drops, and special diets--basic tasks that did not require a veterinary license. I have worked in both animal and human healthcare, own six pets, and completed five weeks of volunteering without a single correction or complaint. On my final shift, before I even entered the building, I was pulled aside by two older white female volunteers--one I had never even met--and told that, after "internal discussion," I was no longer a fit for the medical committee because of my fingernails. My nails had been the same since my first day and had never once been mentioned. Instead, I was told I would be "a better fit" for the cleaning committee. Imagine being a Master's-educated Black woman, lifelong cat owner, and healthcare professional, only to have two volunteer cat ladies decide you belong cleaning instead of providing medical care. I was devastated and am still affected by that experience. The situation raised serious concerns: 1. I was discussed and evaluated without my knowledge. 2. I was removed without prior communication or documented performance issues. 3. Standards were applied inconsistently, since nothing about my appearance had changed. 4. The tone and handling of the situation felt dismissive, isolating, and racially motivated. As one of the only Black volunteers I ever saw there, I could not ignore how this felt. I emailed the Executive Director detailing my concerns. Rather than addressing them, she simply upheld the volunteers' decision and again encouraged me to join the cleaning committee. I then emailed the Board of Directors. One board member met with me for coffee and acknowledged that Good Mews struggles to attract younger and more diverse volunteers. I left hopeful that the situation would be resolved and that I could continue volunteering. He said he would speak with the volunteer leadership and get back to me. That was in April. I never heard from him again. The volunteer who ultimately removed me had been passive-aggressive from my first day. Within minutes of meeting me she said, "There's a code to the front door, but we'll see if you stick around before I give it to you." After five weeks I still had no door code or name badge. Although the medical tasks were straightforward, I was shadowed for weeks. On my fourth week another volunteer took over my "training." Her first question was, in a condescending tone, "What do you feel you need to improve?" When I politely explained I felt comfortable with the routine but would ask if I needed help, her demeanor changed immediately. Throughout the shift she repeatedly inserted herself into conversations and hovered over my work despite my having demonstrated I could perform the tasks independently. As a healthcare professional, cleanliness matters to me. I wore gloves, changed them between cats, and regularly disinfected the medication area. Meanwhile, I repeatedly watched the lead volunteer clean urine, feces, and vomit with her bare hands, manually express a cat into the medication room sink without gloves, and simply rinse the sink with water. She even told me not to worry about cleaning because it would be done later. On one occasion she had cat vomit on her face for over 30 minutes after cleaning it up. Those conditions were honestly disturbing. I adore the cats at Good Mews, and I sincerely hope every one of them finds a loving home. My criticism is directed at the organization's leadership and volunteer culture, not the animals. There are many wonderful shelters in the Atlanta area that deserve support. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Good Mews. I believe I was treated differently because of my race, and after exhausting every internal avenue--including the Executive Director and the Board--I was ignored. I will continue sharing my experience, and I've included a photo of the "too long" nails that ended my volunteer position.

Here are my initial observations: 1) The kitten and senior cat rooms are separate, and are well kept. 2) Yes they run freely, but within the confines of their respective rooms 3) They have a military discount for veterans. 4) They will adopt out furbabies with FIV, etc. I actually pet a small kitten and realized he had a neuro condition poor thing, but nothing was mentioned about it before entering the room. 5) the kitten room has plenty of space for the kitties but only comfortably accommodates 2 couples, especially when children are in tow. So plan your visit accordingly. 6) Public hours are on weekends today's having at least 5 friendly volunteers fit just sitting at the front office, so NO reason for them not to answer the phone - and YES, it's an unfortunate truth fur weekdays AND weekends. 7) Visit early to catch them in more interactive moods, where you can observe their truer personalities and 8) 6Lastly, but DEFINITELY NOT LEAST, while we were properly greeted and briefed, let's just say there was definitely an initial double take and a few stares that lingered just a nanosecond too long (We're a mixed couple) IYKYK Overall, our experience was a mixed bag. Just a few months ago I reached out to MM because I was at the end of my patience with the puppy I was given April 2026. He was unruly, aggressive and biting people. With me he was great but I couldn't trust him outside or with others.He would have fits and start barking trying to bite people,other dogs and even children. Today after the classes at Mostly Mutts with Christina and Gabe he is a different dog. He's not perfect but he is much improved. He's manageable. He no longer barks uncontrollably or lunges at other dogs, children and people. I highly recommend Mostly Mutts they are wonderful. One of the things we liked most about Sarah's Pet Corner is that we didn't have to leave our puppy in a place where he'd be stuck in a tiny cage with little socialization and exercise. After his stay, she provided us with homemade puppy treats, a "report card" of how he did and a dvd slideshow with pictures of him playing. You can tell that she genuinely has a passion for what she does. I know that Brewer had a blast while he was there....he was so tired when we picked him up that he cuddled up with me and slept on my lap for the very first time. We trust Sarah and have now taken Brewer back there every time we are out of town. He LOVES going to visit his friends at Sarah's Pet Corner :)

The dogs are kept in nicer spaces that are behind glass. If you're interested in interacting with the pets, you let an employee/volunteer know and you're put into a room to spend time together. We were only casually looking and there with a friend who was considering adopting. In her interactions in the days leading up to our visit, the said the staff was very quick to respond and helpful. The one downside was that I felt the staff/volunteers were very pushy in trying to get the animals adopted... but at the end of the day, they're also just doing their jobs!

After the exam, I was told straight up that my dog didn't need dental cleaning, so I could not book the service. I decided to purchase heartworm preventatives using their online pharmacy, but after EIGHT attempts in a month to get the medication, the order was rejected EVERY SINGLE TIME by their veterinarian. Each time the reason was that there was a prescription on file already so they could not approve an order request, but there WAS no prescription on file to begin with. All I can assume is that Pawproject wants my dog to get heartworm infection and die. I hate Pawproject and will report them to the Georgia Board of Veterinary Medicine. Don't go there.

Atlanta Humane Society knew that the two dogs they adopted to me were both unfit for adoption. The first dog (Meagan) I took to my VCA Veterinarian and even he told me that Atlanta Humane Society should have never adopted her out. He told me that she has so much anxiety and is not too social with people. She is social with other dogs. So, I asked him if he would write a letter of recommendation stating that he finds her to have too much anxiety and isn't too social with people and that he doesn't recommend her being placed for adoption. He did write the letter and I gave Meagan back to Atlanta Humane Society along with that letter from my VCA Veterinarian. When she (Meagan) was in my care, she never ate and she never drank. Not even my own VCA veterinarian could get her to eat and drink. She would only pace back and forth when kept indoors. The other dog I adopted from them (Zairya) did not like being held. When I held her, she wanted me to immediately put her down. She would not come when I called her name, she would just only hide under chairs and under tables. Also, she would bark loudly like crazy whenever she was in a crate or left alone. She too would not eat or drink. This is why I returned her back to Atlanta Humane Society as well. Atlanta Humane Society never told me about either dog's severe anxiety issues and they knew that neither dog was fit for adoption. Yet, they still adopted them out. It is clear that Atlanta Humane Society doesn't care about remedying the anxiety issues of their dogs before adopting them out. It is completely shady and absurd to me that they (Atlanta Humane Society) would knowingly adopt out two dogs with severe anxiety issues and then expect the adopter who adopted them to keep them. Atlanta Humane Society is the reason why I have now lost all trust in all animal shelters and they're also the reason why they have now made it completely hard and difficult for me to ever adopt again. I WILL NEVER EVER adopt from Atlanta Humane Society (including all other animal shelters) ever again. I will never again deal with nor set foot in another animal shelter ever again after these two horrible adoption experiences. When I adopted both dogs, they were both adopted to me completely smelly and filthy. I had to take each dog to a local self serve dog wash immediately after leaving with each one due them smelling so horribly and being so filthy. Please keep in mind that if you adopt any cat, kitten, dog, or puppy from Atlanta Humane Society...they will be adopted out to you completely smelly and filthy. They don't bother taking the time to bathe any of their animals before adopting them out and sending them off to their new home. I don't recommend Atlanta Humane Society, if you must adopt a dog...I recommend going elsewhere. Atlanta Humane Society doesn't care who adopts their animals as long as they're able to pay their grossly outrageously high adoption fees. They rely on people to pay their high adoption fees to fill their pockets and wallets. Atlanta Humane Society has now made me hate all animal shelters.

Being sponsored by Mr. Blank gave me a little more assurance that mine would be well-cared- for during his stay. Pre-lim docs are sent via email prior to your appointment, to be reviewed and esigned, etc. Intake is also very well organized the morning of, with a volunteer lining us up neatly one by one in the parking area, for the extra volunteers to pick up your babies/exchange paperwork. Pickup is a little more crowd-based, everyone gathering in the lobby/seating area. A volunteer will come out to greet and brief parents on the pets' general state (post-procedure) and after-care required, with take-home paperwork provided as well. I will update again after my baby's recovery period is done, but so far so good!
