I adopted two dogs from this place. Both dogs were adopted out to me with undisclosed severe anxiety issues. They both were not fit for adoption. Atlanta Humane Society knew that the two dogs they adopted to me were both unfit for adoption. The first dog (Meagan) I took to my VCA Veterinarian and even he told me that Atlanta Humane Society should have never adopted her out. He told me that she has so much anxiety and is not too social with people. She is social with other dogs. So, I asked him if he would write a letter of recommendation stating that he finds her to have too much anxiety and isn't too social with people and that he doesn't recommend her being placed for adoption. He did write the letter and I gave Meagan back to Atlanta Humane Society along with that letter from my VCA Veterinarian. When she (Meagan) was in my care, she never ate and she never drank. Not even my own VCA veterinarian could get her to eat and drink. She would only pace back and forth when kept indoors. The other dog I adopted from them (Zairya) did not like being held. When I held her, she wanted me to immediately put her down. She would not come when I called her name, she would just only hide under chairs and under tables. Also, she would bark loudly like crazy whenever she was in a crate or left alone. She too would not eat or drink. This is why I returned her back to Atlanta Humane Society as well. Atlanta Humane Society never told me about either dog's severe anxiety issues and they knew that neither dog was fit for adoption. Yet, they still adopted them out. It is clear that Atlanta Humane Society doesn't care about remedying the anxiety issues of their dogs before adopting them out. It is completely shady and absurd to me that they (Atlanta Humane Society) would knowingly adopt out two dogs with severe anxiety issues and then expect the adopter who adopted them to keep them. Atlanta Humane Society is the reason why I have now lost all trust in all animal shelters and they're also the reason why they have now made it completely hard and difficult for me to ever adopt again. I WILL NEVER EVER adopt from Atlanta Humane Society (including all other animal shelters) ever again. I will never again deal with nor set foot in another animal shelter ever again after these two horrible adoption experiences. When I adopted both dogs, they were both adopted to me completely smelly and filthy. I had to take each dog to a local self serve dog wash immediately after leaving with each one due them smelling so horribly and being so filthy. Please keep in mind that if you adopt any cat, kitten, dog, or puppy from Atlanta Humane Society...they will be adopted out to you completely smelly and filthy. They don't bother taking the time to bathe any of their animals before adopting them out and sending them off to their new home. I don't recommend Atlanta Humane Society, if you must adopt a dog...I recommend going elsewhere. Atlanta Humane Society doesn't care who adopts their animals as long as they're able to pay their grossly outrageously high adoption fees. They rely on people to pay their high adoption fees to fill their pockets and wallets. Atlanta Humane Society has now made me hate all animal shelters. read more

Our Fur-babies are quite precious to us! After a disappointing experience with a local that a friend of mine referred me to AHS. Being sponsored by Mr. Blank gave me a little more assurance that mine would be well-cared- for during his stay. Pre-lim docs are sent via email prior to your appointment, to be reviewed and esigned, etc. Intake is also very well organized the morning of, with a volunteer lining us up neatly one by one in the parking area, for the extra volunteers to pick up your babies/exchange paperwork. Pickup is a little more crowd-based, everyone gathering in the lobby/seating area. A volunteer will come out to greet and brief parents on the pets' general state (post-procedure) and after-care required, with take-home paperwork provided as well. I will update again after my baby's recovery period is done, but so far so good! read more

Be very careful! They are allowing extremely sick pets to be adopted. We adopted a kitten. They gave us a medical report and told us he was healthy. As soon as we got him home, he was vomiting, coughing, and wouldn't eat. Thank goodness for the VCA certificate that gave us a free checkup. I only paid $25 for the fecal spear. The cat was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection and Tritrichomonas blagburn, which is an infection due to parasites living in the colon and shed via feces. Apparently, it's difficult to find the compounded medication to help cure the colon infection. We were told to quarantine him! At the time nobody was sure if the upper respiratory infection was contagious to humans. It was so unfair that we'd fell in love with this little sweetheart only to have to return him to the shelter so that he could receive the round the clock care and quarantine that he needed. The vet had given us antibiotics and other meds, along with a special diet. We should have paid more attention to the caretakers at the shelter who were laughing about the behavior of an adult cat that was coughing really bad. It was weird because a lady was adopting the cat as they were joking. Most of the other cats in the cat room looked a bit lethargic but we didn't think there was an ongoing contamination issue. I feel sorry for the young lady who adopted the kitten that was housed in the same kennel cage as our kitten. I'm sure it was infected too. Luckily, I was refunded the $150 adoption fee due to the health guarantee. I'm out the money for all the pet supplies we purchased but I saved in the long run by not having unexpected vet bills and medication expenses. I understand that shelters have challenges due to funding but it is no excuse for animals to be infected because of parasites running rampant in the facility in cage litter and on the grooming tools used, which is ingested. I didn't find this facility to be as clean or secure as the Fulton County animal shelter on Fulton Industrial Blvd. Be very very careful about the health of the animals prior to committing. read more

Ooo la la . After months of emails about the new facility, it is finally open and well worth the wait. Off of Perry Blvd. Still in Northwest, Atlanta. This place is so open and spacious and spotless. Complete with plenty of photo oops for your time line. We wondered around and got to visit with the animals. The purpose of the visit was to help with their Deck the halls campaign by delivering stocking stuffers. I WISH I COULD GIVE ZERO STARS!!!! This establishment is EXTREMELY incompetent... We came to adopt a dog but decided to foster him for a few days to be certain and not even 30 minutes into having him he attacked the dog we already had resulting in a hospital visit!!! We planned to bring him back but they closed at 6pm and ignored the phone!! Then he literally destroyed our door frame and fence trying to escape!! These people didn't tell us about his aggressive behavior which DID NOT come out of nowhere!! read more

I went to possibly rehome a pet. When I walked in to the foster center I wasn't greeted at all by the person at the desk. I just stood there as they typed on their keyboard. I finally after like 1 min asked if I should wait here or am I in the right spot. They just nodded their head and resumed typing. After 5 mins of standing I asked them again if someone was coming. First let me start off by saying that a humane society or shelter is COMPLETELY different from a breeder and I feel that people go to adoption shelters with breeder's expectations and give shelters, who are only trying to assist to the best of their ability a bad rap. Well, I am here to say that I had a GREAT experience. I have been searching for a particular breed for a while and was unsuccessful Well, to be honest I couldn't afford the alleged breeders industry standard pricing. So I took a risk and started researching thoroughly. After months of searching I gave up. Now, I don't know if any of you all are believers and believe in God or not but this my testimony of HIs goodness. Anyway, I was so consumed with finding this particular breed. I had so much faith that I sowed seed for a particular breed, gender, look, color, etc. I even told the Lord I wanted an intelligent dog who was extremely chill yet playful. And I said Lord so I know its you, I don't want to have to pay for her. Okay, my seed was sown and I start researching some more. So much that it consumed me. Finally, I heard the Lord say stop, trust me with your desire. Let me tell once that happened, it was around 2am I got a notification from adopt a pet on behalf of the Atlanta Humane society. And what do you know, I was staring at what I was believing God for. I rushed to click on the picture to get more info and the picture was gone. Slightly discouraged I went to the Atlanta Humane Society's page and low and behold there she was what I was believing for with a $350 adoption fee. I hurried and put in my preadoption application and went to sleep. I woke up that next morning with a message from Heather giving me more information on the pup and asking if I wanted to schedule a meet and greet. I think this was on a Sunday or Monday. She connected me with the young lady who was fostering her and we immediately hit it out. She was extremely helpful and went out of her way to answer questions and send me pictures and videos. Fast forward. We scheduled a meet and greet for the upcoming Friday with the Foster. Now remember the adoption fee was $350. That didn't scare me away because I was believing God. So a day before the meet and greet, I go to the Atlanta Humane Society's website to see if there is anything that I need to do for the meet and greet. You know properly prepare myself and THAT's when I saw it. "FOR THIS WEEKEND ONLY ALL ADOPTION FEES ARE BEING WAVED". WHAT!??!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME? HALLELUJAH! Sometime between the time I contacted the Atlanta Humane Society and my meet and greet they decided to waive all adoptions fees. And, I am blessed with my forever blessing. I went to plenty of animal shelters and this is the cleanest one I've seen and very professional didn't have to go through a lot of paper work to get the kitten my daughter always wanted (orange tabby) pulled me to the side and explained everything that the cat has gone through and how to take care of him and even gave me food that they were feeding him I definitely recommend this 100% if you wanna become a new pet owner read more

OK this is the BEST RESCUE facility Ever. SPCA, Rescue facilities .. this is the place to visit animal shelter whether you want to adopt or you are a shelter director or supporter. See first hand how GREAT a shelter can be. Maybe -- even though it's tough -- it's POSSIBLE!!!! *** HOW DO YOU KNOW? I've been to US kennels & pet Rescue facilities in NY, NJ, FL, and Italy and had about 20 dogs and let's say about 25 cats in my life, (mostly rescue...) LOOKING FOR LOVE?. I moved to FL after a breakup & took a sales job, and I was so depressed once or twice a week I'd spend lunch hour at one of 5-6 local TampaBay shelters. Due to lack of (you name it)-funds, help).... So many shelters were overcrowded, smelly, short staffed but --- I got to stick my fingers in the bars -- and pet a few animals in as severe need of affection --- as I was. WE CAN ADOPT? Fast forward to ATL GA. My wonderful fiancee said "we might want adopt a cat" once we get finished traveling... I Yelped right away and found 5-6 shelters in ATL... I called a few... ugh. "No you can't pet the animals here" , try calling this other place... try pet stores.... so.. i almost gave up.... BUT WHERE? After reading more reviews, I decided to drag my "honey" 40 min on a Saturday to South Atlanta, to a "surprise destination" the Arthur M Blank Family Animal Shelter.... REACTION? My guy went from "what are we doing here" & "you go in & see if they are open for visit".... To "we are adopting a cat".... (From a picky guy in like 30 min).... CLEAN AND SPOTLESS? Yes! Not only that... the place has No Smell, Spacious, the Volunteers like Keith & Kimberly are ALL super nice, has Play Areas, Meet & Greet animal areas, Vets, outdoor animal play areas for dogs and more. REASONABLE PRICING?. (Yes. all due to donations I'm sure). I know my sister has spent as much as $250 on each of her 5 rescue cats, and here at Arthur M Blank shelter ( in 2023) your initial "cat fee" is starts at $75 --a fraction, with all the shots (if I read the sign right)... WORTH THE VISIT?. Whether you visit, foster, volunteer, donate or adopt, Arthur M Blank Family Humane Society will leave you SMILING. NEARBY GREAT RESTAURANTS?. After you "drag" your honey there, see Fido or Kitty eat & wag or purr, whatever their reaction you can immediately soothe their shock with some great food -- there are some Great Restaurants nearby... check Yelp. I adore the animals here and the facility is really clean. However the wait to adopt a pet after you select one is very long. With the exception of one young lady, the volunteers had a weird off putting vibe. One older volunteer assumed that a young woman of color who wanted to volunteer was actually seeking court ordered volunteerism. It was highly inappropriate and off/putting. read more
