When asked for an explanation Randa immediately sent a refund saying upon my request, which was just for explanation. When followed up was told I can't sue because I signed a waiver, that it was my fault for boarding an older dog and not boarded before. I never made any accusations or asked for anything but an explanation. I'm so devastated I left my pet/family member in their care.

For some context, my dog was found in a forest preserve as a young dog and so she had very little socialization with humans. She was awkward around my friends and family but would quickly warm up and play with them. When I went to pick her up at the end of the week, I did the hour-long session with Mike, and the whole time I noticed she was cowering every time he would raise his hand or go near her. This was not the goofy, happy dog I brought it. When I brought her home, I didn't notice anything unusual, and I had some friends come over about a week later. My dog, who had met all these people multiple times, was growling and visibly stressed to the point that she nipped my best friend, thankfully no skin was broke but we were both shocked. Prior to this incident, she had never nipped anyone or even gotten mouthy during playtime. When I called Jen about this incident, she brushed it off as my dog "testing boundaries". I received no support or advice on how to handle this situation. Since then, she has become more untrusting of humans (other than me) to the point where I can't have people come over because of her fear reactivity. I'm now working with a behaviorist to work on these issues and get her to a place of being more comfortable around people. I always look back and think that if I hadn't sent her there, she would be a very different dog now. **I'd like to note that I've since taken her to a daycare/boarding facility that she absolutely loves, and everyone there loves her. I'd taken her there once prior to this board and train, and it is now my go to place for her whenever I'm out of town. They were shocked when I told them about her reactivity, as they've never seen her express those behaviors and she's extremely well taken care of.

I boarded my dog here for a long weekend, and unfortunately, he contracted a terrible case of kennel cough. On top of that, the place has a terrible smell and just doesn't seem hygienic at all. I wouldn't risk coming back again.

She uses a combination of positive reinforcement and voice inflection/commands to guide the dog. Her approach is to "train the trainer", so that you are not accidentally giving mixed signals to your dog. We adopted our puppy during the pandemic, and she has always been scared of other dogs and people despite our best efforts to socialize her. The training techniques Mary taught us helped our dog to focus on us, instead of outside stimuli in public places and helped her be a bit less afraid out in the world. I found myself in a dingy, tight, and cramped basement with too many people wearing ill-fitting masks. COVID-19 aside, I don't know how The Obedience Center has remained in business for so long. They don't value building relationships with your dog. Their "training" includes screaming "quiet" at dogs, grabbing them by their mouths when they're puppy biting, and spaying peppermint breath spray into their mouths. Mary is a genuinely unpleasant individual. She'll make you feel like you're back in elementary school with a miserable teacher that needs to retire. I was so hopeful for this place, but I never returned. I've met people at the local dog park with similar experiences, and so I'm glad it wasn't just me. I found a better training place that fosters human/dog relationships and imparts knowledge helpfully. It's true, there are tons of ribbons on the walls, and I have no reason to believe that her authoritarian training regime scares dogs into compliance. I have different values and have found success without her methods. If tyranny and cruelty isn't your preference, I'd suggest you avoid this place at all costs.
