I've been bringing my rescue dog to Baxter & Beasley since we first got her two years ago. She loves going to daycare. It's the only place I'd send her. She doesn't do well with boarding,being a rescue, but they take such good care of her, I don't worry when I'm away. The entire staff is fantastic. They love the dogs and go above and beyond for them and us owners every day. Mike and Jen have taught me how to be a dog Mom :) Their hours are great, the prices are reasonable, the facility is always clean and my pup loves it. I would not recommend the training services here. I brought my dog in for a week long board and train (she was a foster fail, and I wanted her to learn basic obedience). For some context, my dog was found in a forest preserve as a young dog and so she had very little socialization with humans. She was awkward around my friends and family but would quickly warm up and play with them. When I went to pick her up at the end of the week, I did the hour-long session with Mike, and the whole time I noticed she was cowering every time he would raise his hand or go near her. This was not the goofy, happy dog I brought it. When I brought her home, I didn't notice anything unusual, and I had some friends come over about a week later. My dog, who had met all these people multiple times, was growling and visibly stressed to the point that she nipped my best friend, thankfully no skin was broke but we were both shocked. Prior to this incident, she had never nipped anyone or even gotten mouthy during playtime. When I called Jen about this incident, she brushed it off as my dog "testing boundaries". I received no support or advice on how to handle this situation. Since then, she has become more untrusting of humans (other than me) to the point where I can't have people come over because of her fear reactivity. I'm now working with a behaviorist to work on these issues and get her to a place of being more comfortable around people. I always look back and think that if I hadn't sent her there, she would be a very different dog now. **I'd like to note that I've since taken her to a daycare/boarding facility that she absolutely loves, and everyone there loves her. I'd taken her there once prior to this board and train, and it is now my go to place for her whenever I'm out of town. They were shocked when I told them about her reactivity, as they've never seen her express those behaviors and she's extremely well taken care of. read more

My dog sustained a head wound while in their custody for 4 days (picture below). Then they denied it ever happening and belittled my wife on the phone. I understand these are big dogs that can play aggressively so things happen but just be straightforward with us. I need to tell the vet when it happened. read more

I would strongly advise against boarding your dog at Baxter and Beasley. We left our sweet dog in their care for seven nights while we were on vacation, only to pick him up and find a large, untreated gash on his head. Not only were we never notified of any injury, but when we followed up with the owner, his response was completely unacceptable. Instead of taking responsibility or even showing basic compassion, the owner immediately became defensive, rude, and accusatory, claiming our dog had a "growth" when we dropped him off--which was absolutely false. He insisted our dog must have scratched himself under their supervision but failed to inform us of any wounds (even stated on the phone it was treated with hydrogen peroxide, which we were never informed of). Even worse, he refused to cover any vet bills and made it clear he wouldn't be held accountable. *I am sure the owner will be commenting on this post saying our dog was not harmed while in their care.* Our vet confirmed that the wound is likely infected, meaning our dog suffered while in their care with no medical attention. The lack of communication, negligence, and outright disrespect from the owner are inexcusable. If you love your pet, do yourself a favor and take them anywhere but here. As much I'd like to say these guys are friendly & budget friendly and always have an opening, the place smells as soon as you walk in. Our dog always comes back after boarding with a lot of rug burn or skin problems on his legs which he doesn't have normally! They say this is normal from all the playing however we never had this issue before with other places or pet sitters with dogs. The sores would heal but he would get them again when he'd go back and we did this 2-3 times so stopped using them. read more

What's the point of filling out the information sheet ?? - The owners all claim to love dogs, but they don't. My dog left here in such bad condition - with PNEUMONIA and 20 POUNDS skinnier. Thank god we didn't plan a month trip or else we would've came back to a "lost" or dead dog. This took place in June 2022. I cried myself to sleep for days because I felt so bad for leaving him in such a disgusting place. I couldn't get over my anger with this place, but now I hope to save this experience for anyone that truly loves their pup. The day I dropped him off - I should've known to not let this happen. The daughter, I think, of this establishment, has her cigarettes out on the front desk. She looked disoriented and in every way unrepresentable - she couldn't care less about how my dog was about to do for the next week. She was literally yelling at her "friends" dogs to cooperate and get inside. To make matters worse - the day that I picked him up this girl has courage to say " oh- I don't know what happened - that snot just started today!!" Incorrect - my dog had been sitting there sick all week and ALL you cared about was collecting the payment. So disgusting. All of them. I hope this place gets shut down. Dogs deserve better. My dog was living at this doggie daycare facility for a few weeks until I adopted him in August 2023 (through the Many Paws Global Rescue). The owners are the same. They are very dedicated to dogs and clearly work very hard. However, my new pup came to me with several health issues. He had a giardia intestinal parasite, an open wound on his tail, self-induced cuts on his nose from being crated, and developed pneumonia a few weeks after being there. I read other reviews of the same parasite dating back to 2022 and another instance of pneumonia (which is highly contagious). I didn't think the pneumonia had anything to do with the daycare until I read that. The facility is not clean. Smells awful. My dog came home utterly filthy. I wouldn't recommend sending your dog here as there seem to be ongoing illnesses being spread. read more

I needed help training my high-energy, 10 month old puppy. Baxter & Beasley was recommended by my sister-in-law's co-worker. We met Mike for a 1-on-1 free consultation and signed up for 2 training sessions. I got trained as much as my puppy did! We now enjoy our walks because he doesn't lunge anymore and he's getting better at walking politely and by my side. I left my two dogs, Rocket and Phoenix, at Baxter and Beasley while on family vacation. My dogs are EVERYTHING to me and this was my first time boarding both of them so I was extremely nervous and emotional. Both the owners of Baxter and Beasley were INSANELY kind and went through the trouble of giving me a tour of the facility and showing me the precautions they take to insure each dog's safety. Every dog that was being boarded or attending daycare looked SOOO HAPPY and followed the employees around, which let me know that everyone that works there is treating the dogs well. When touring other dog kennels, I saw dogs spend the majority of their time in isolated steel kennels, but at Baxter and Beasley they spend most of the day in dog heaven, playing with dogs of all shapes and sizes. Due to a family emergency, I had to stay another week on vacation, but it was no problem for them. The owners even took the time to purchase another bag of dog food for my dogs. The best part was that the business is mostly family, and the daughter (or niece) I'm not sure, took the time to take ADORABLE pics of my dogs and post them on their Facebook page to ease my worry. I got to show my family how much fun my dogs were having with the other dogs and I almost cried at how cute they were. My dogs came home SO HAPPY and I am so grateful that they had the opportunity to socialize with other dogs and were so well looked after. I HIGHLYYYY RECOMMEND this business to anyone who loves their dogs and wants them to have a vacation of their own. I will DEFINITELY be coming back. read more

As a person who didnt plan on being a pet owner - when we found and rescued a very young Husky, the family of B&B along with the daughter Jen's rescue, Many Paws, did everything imaginable to help us bring her back to lift. She went through a very tramatic experience at just a few months of age, and she was scared of almost everything and everyone. Since going to B&B every week - she has become a happy loving obedient perfect pup -- and that is all due 100% to the B&B family. Mike, Sharon, Jen, and all the care givers staffed go above and beyond for not only the animals - but the owners as well. They are beyond kind and caring! You really feel like you are part of the family there. My pup loves her time there so much that she dances in the car with excitement when on the way there, and practically runs me over to get inside when we arrive. When coming home after shes so happy! Dropped off my dog for a week and was not happy to pick up a filthy dog after being told they would bathe her prior to a scheduled pick up time. The dog was disgusting. The last thing we wanted to do upon returning from vacation was wash a filthy puppy . ++1/13/2015 update Brought my pup back today and the Yelp review was discussed in a professional manner. We explained our issue and expect Baxter to follow through with the expectations they set forth. Hopefully our pick up in 2 days will warrant an updated rating of Baxter. ++1/15/2015 I gave Baxter another shot and spoke with an individual who explained the communication issue upon my first visit. I'm happy that I now understand why my dog wasn't given a bath and it makes complete sense now although it wasn't communicated properly the first time they did apologize and correct the situation. Seeing a lot of bad reviews on here - so I thought I'd add my two cents - for what it's worth. I called on a Friday afternoon and was thrilled to find out they could get my pup in for a grooming appointment on Saturday. I spoke with Mike on the phone and found him to be exceptionally friendly. When I dropped my dog off on Saturday morning - people were checking their dogs in for day care so it was a little bit hectic. But within 10 minutes I had my paperwork filled out and the groomer came to get my dog. I asked Mike if I could tour the facility (thinking we might use it for doggy day care) and he gladly gave me the walk through. He let me know about how they clean the place a couple of times a day and how the water in the pool is changed regularly. All and all the place seemed as good as any other grooming/day care place I've seen. My only complaint would be that they did not call me (as they said they would) to let me know when my dog was done. I was out running errands and basically wasting time while I waited. After about 1.5 hours, I called them to check the status (wasn't expecting it to take that long) and they said they were waiting on me to come back and get him! No big deal, though - I chalked it up to a simple misunderstanding. When I returned, my dog looked and smelled good and did not seem traumatized (nor was he bleeding.) Price seemed right ($40 for my 7 month old Border Collie) and the people were friendly. We never did try out the day care - because we have since found out that my guy is traumatized by day care - but for his 1 year birthday we received a card in the mail with a grooming coupon, so I imagine we'll go back and take advantage of that. All and all - we were satisfied with no real complaints. read more

I found Baxter & Beasley on the website for Fromm dog foods and went in to grab a bag of food and check out the facility back in Sept. We had just adopted Phoebe from an animal rescue, and I noticed they did it all from doggie daycare to grooming to obedience classes. My vet said to let Phoebe adjust to her new home and environment before beginning any obedience or any major changes or adjustments. Fast forward two months later. We signed up for private lessons with Mike, the head dog trainer and owner of the place. We opted for private classes because Phoebe had a troubled start to her life and needed guidance. I thought the class with other dogs would deter her. Anyways, we had our class last Saturday and had an amazing experience. Mike has a dry sense of humor and my GF and I liked him. Phoebe was doing things in MOMENTS that I feared would take weeks or months to accomplish. I was confident before our first lesson that Phoeb's would be an excellent student, but thought her rebelliousness and oppositional disposition would be a challenge for all involved. On our first lesson we worked on SIT, STAY, and HEEL. SHe was good with SIT already, but would NEVER stay on her own. That was Saturday and she has come WORLDS in that short time. We plan on having our second private lesson some time after the 1st of the year after the holidays. Phoebe has been a great student and seems to want to please us and behave for us. All parties involved have been very satisfied with the lessons Mike has taught us so far. I saw a few negative reviews about the place, so I wanted to say what a great experience we had. It is a family run business. Our first lesson started about 10 minutes late (they were exceptionally busy and were boarding a lot of dogs, and it was the holidays) BUT Mike ran 20 minutes over our hour lesson, so we got more than our moneys worth. Baxter & Beasley is the only place I feel confident my dog is being handled with the best care for daycare. Mike is knowledgeable and upfront about the needs and social/training requirements of my dog but he did not push me to buy additional services through him. Jenny and Sharon have gone out of their way to make me feel comfortable and confident that my dog is safe and she is not just another pet attending daycare. I have tried many other daycare's in the area and surrounding Chicagoland area but feel that my dog is the most excited to arrive here. Jenny was open and transparent about any reviews and/or issues I had read about from the past, and trust me, I did a lot of research and asked a lot of questions. The initial intake process they had for my dog was extensive and comprehensive because I gave them every detail about her behavior, etc., They encouraged me to call and check in on her and ask as many questions until I felt comfortable. I have been a customer of Baxter & Beasley for 3 plus years! I just recently experienced their true behaviors! I scheduled grooming/cutting of 2 dogs. I was very explicit on how I wanted them washed and cut! In short, I picked them up to find out they were not cut. That I had scheduled day care and bath only! REALLY!!!!!!! I have NEVER SCHEDULED DAY CARE!!!!!! My hardworking (60 hour a week plus and full time college student ) son paid the bill! I requested that they get cut at their expense! Due to their error! For 2 days I tried to resolve this issue! As a repeat customer one would think they would correct their error. I finally went to the establishment, to discuss resolution. Mike, ( owner ) told me that he couldn't DEAL WITH THIS! YOU OWN A BUSINESS, YOU DEAL WITH YOUR ERRORS! Then, his wife told me to stop talking, raised her voice and would not correct the issue! I told her unfortunately I would have to contact the DAILY HERALD! I was very calm and spoke politely. While she raised her voice and said , " THEN, WE WILL HAVE TO RETALIATE AGAINST YOU"! I am very dissatisfied with the way my dog, was groomed this past Saturday. We asked for 1 inch to be cut off his tail but several inches were removed. His ears were suppose to be trimmed only 1/2 inch... it looks like almost 2 inches were cut off his ears. Speaking of his ears.. they are still dirty. They were not cleaned at all. His face was trimmed and it is the most uneven trim I have ever seen. And finally, the groomer chopped off his Mohawk. He now looks like he has a flat top. In fact the hair on top of his head is shorter then the rest of his body. We tried your shop because our regular groomer was out of town. Never again. I am very disappointed at the care my dog received at the hands of an inexperienced groomer. read more

Went here to work on puppy training with my 5 month old rescue dog. The trainer, Mike, was extremely harsh and degrading to both myself and my puppy, to the point that I started to cry. He was not very clear in his instruction, and did not provide additional details when asked without making a snarky comment. I would not recommend this trainer to anyone. For your own sake, and your dogs, please take your business elsewhere. He also made us use a pinch collar, telling us that it did not hurt our dog. I can't even really give this place 1 star but I have to pick at least 1. I went in to check it out because I was looking for a place to have my kiddo groomed. I walked in and it smelled horrendous and I was barely greeted by the teenager sitting behind the receptionist desk. When she finally paid me attention I explained I was interested in getting my dog groomed but my dog has some major health issues(he has heart disease) and I would like to see the grooming facilities. I used to be a loyal customer. Local, family-owned, seem to be nice people. I used to use B&B for grooming, day care and even did a private session for my then 5-lb Pomeranian puppy. Until one day I came to pick him up from day care and he was not his happy self. He suddenly cowered down and started shaking when that person came in to reception area from the back. It thought it was odd. So I took him home and he was his happy self again. I take my dog everywhere with me and Gibson is a very happy dog; however, I noticed on that weekend that he started getting scared of men. He would hide and back away whenever a man would try to pet him. Two weeks later when I was going to drive him to day care and I pulled into parking lot, he again started shaking. I put him down to walk over to the door and he would resist going in. Please note that he does not even do this with the vet! So I turned around and obviously, this confirmed my hunch. I do not know what happened on that day but Gibson was never the same towards men. I know that this facility works with the old-school teaching methodology of using choke chains, dominance and being the "pack leader". I was naïve back then and since have discovered better and more effective ways to train a dog without intimidation. My Pomeranian is a certified therapy dog who works with kids and elderly citizens on a weekly basis. He loves children, women and elders. It is just sad to watch him cower down when the children's dads would try to pet him and he would flinch nowadays, or when my male friends and colleagues would come say Hi, he would hide behind me. To this day, I regret bringing Gibson in that day but lesson learned. read more

I was very excited to see the potential with a new business like Baxter and Beasley. I heard good reviews and thought this would be a great new community business that I could support so I brought my dog in. I asked for a nail trim and drummel. They women whisked her away to an area I could not see and less then 3 minutes later my dog comes back with very short chopped and un-drummled nails. When I brought her into my vehicle she sat down and started furiously licking her paw which I inspected and found that they women had cut the nail so far back it was bleeding. (So not only did they chop my dogs nails to the point of blood, but the charged me for the drummel and cut, even though they neglected to drummel the nails) I went back inside and told the women that my dogs nails were bleeding and she responded that it must have been a result of the dog walking on concrete to the car. I have never had my dogs nails bleed after a cut and drummel as a professional will take care not have the vein cut. Clearly this was a hurried job and I shant ever return due to their carelessness. read more

My dog seems happy enough to be there as long as the daughter isn't there. He's a 75# lab, loves everybody and was afraid of No One until something happened at Baxter and Beasley. He is terrified of her. I Will always make me wonder what goes on behind the closed doors. He immediately cowered and messed on the floor when he caught sight of her the next time and that was over two months later. I just know she hurt him but have no proof. read more

We brought our 4 year old puppy in for his first doggy daycare appointment (no offer of a tour). People working the front desk (I think one of the owners) was not friendly at all. Had me just fill out the paperwork, didn't take time to answer any questions and just took my dog into the pit of other dogs. Didn't keep him on leash to introduce him to other dogs rather they just put him in with the other dogs. When we picked out dog up in the afternoon, he was acting really strange (whining and pacing). I think he was totally overwhelmed from all the stimulation of the day and I'm not sure how much of downtime he had. To shop around to see how others handled a new client, I called a competitor and it was an entirely different situation. They gradually bring the new dogs into the room with dogs of like play abilities, look at them throughout the day and assess them to determine where they should be placed giving them breaks in between. Definitely not going to B&B after learning how others do things. You do get what you pay for. read more

I seriously love this place!! The staff, the decor, the doggie interaction....it doesn't get any better! I have two small dogs that are like my own children. They've never been really interested in socializing with dogs at the dog park or on walks. I gave it a shot here and hoped they would open up. Sure enough, Baxter and Beasley did the trick! The staff here are very knowledgeable about the different breeds of dogs and took the time to slowly integrate my girls into the group so they wouldn't get overwhelmed. Another thing I really love is that the dogs have the option to go outdoors to play as well. They even have a pool! Talk about happy tired dogs at the end of the day! On a side note, I had read some of the negative reviews on yelp after I sent the girls here and I have no clue what these people are talking about. First off, the person with the dremel/ nail file issue needs to calm down. I take my dogs to the vet to get their nails done and even my vet has made them bleed before! It's not a big deal, dogs make quick movements...it can happen no matter how careful you are. And that other lady with the EPIC rant about some review she supposedly didn't write just seems like a certifiable nut job. Like, she should have her yelp status revoked because clearly she has nothing better to do with her time. But I digress ;) Love this place and highly recommend!!! read more

We call at 4:30 to check and they say no get them at 6:30. At 5:50 we get a call saying that they have fleas and one wont stand up to get shaved so we have to help her stand up. We go and my mom comes out with the girl cause she was done. Our other dog was not. No one needed help standing up.. So we leave cause they say it will be 30 more minutes. So we go back and it was 140 dollars. Cause of the flea baths that they didnt tell us about till after they did it. They acted like we caused them such a problem by our dogs having fleas. Stay away! I took my dog, a sweet goldendoodle to get groomed. Our dog weighs 50 pounds. The pricing on line states: " WAGS TO RICHES FULL SPA TREATMENT Approximate Pricing: Toy & Small: $40.00 & Up / Medium: $50.00 & Up / Large: $55.00 & Up / Extra Large: $65.00 & Up" My 16 year old daughter picked up our dog and was charged $115! I highly recommend Baxter and Beasley! After bringing my dog to a local daycare facility I was told after 3 weeks she was no longer welcome. After inquiring more and trying to find out what happened I was told "your dog plays too rough". With twins on the way any day this was a major concern. Without hesitation I brought her up to Mike and his family to get his opinion. After a couple days and a lot of time spent at Baxter and Beasley it was obvious that indeed she did not know how to play with other dogs. Mike spent the time to not only explain to me what was going on he also gave me some simple suggestions to insure she understands dog manners. Mike is FANTASTIC! I'm a first time nervous puppy mom and Mike put my mind at ease immediately! I was nervous because my Boston Terrier is small and they have a lot of big dogs but I have ZERO to worry about! My puppy was very happy there! We even peeked in on her when we came back and she was happy and playing! This place has a great family feel and everyone is very friendly. We LOVE Baxter and Beasley! My dog Teddy has been to multiple doggie daycares in his life and Baxter and Beasley is the only daycare where Teddy runs in with excitement!
