Having moved to Maryland , we had to get our Tags , titles , registrations changed , New drivers license etc. We were advised to use the tag an title companies in Maryland but we decided against it and took an appointment directly at MVA. Having lived in many states before, I have never seen any DMVs so organized . Everything as done in timely manner from appointments to ticketing to numbering to actual work. All staff employees and the person who helped us at counter were very friendly , attentive and informative. Took my kid to get his permit with the correct amount of the required items to take in order to apply for the permit. Well the person attending us said we still need one more item. WRONG. this is not what the letters tell us. My husband corrected her and that's when she started being a little "nicer". but she said we still need the one more item!! we live like 2 min away so we went to go get it, etc.. long story short few people there seemed like they did not want to be bothered, like they did not want to work or be there. that's not okay. not necessary. end of rant. read more

I stopped by this MVA to conduct my car emissions test. Since I visited on a Sunday morning (around 8 am), there wasn't a queue of cars waiting. I was kind of surprised to see that there was only one self-service kiosk. I figured that there would be 2-3 of these kiosks at least. Fortunately for me, I was the only person there at that time. One tip: make sure you know where your OBD port is located before starting the test. I had some trouble finding my car's port (this was the 1st time that I had to do an emissions test). While advancing through the kiosk's prompts, there was a question asking if you could find the port. Since this was my 1st time using this machine, I clicked the 'no' option because I thought the machine would give me more time to find it. Nope! It canceled the test (hopefully, the $10 will be refunded to my CC). I thought, no biggie, I'll just try again. Unfortunately, you have to wait 10 minutes before trying again. I know that I waited at least 13 minutes for the machine to reset, but it would not allow another attempt. Since there was a car behind me, I let the other person use the machine. After that person used the machine, it allowed me to test my car, which took about 3-5 minutes to complete. I guess that I'll be back sometime in 2025 for next year's emissions test. read more

Yikes, yikes and yikes. Since my move to MD I have been here on three occasions. Once to change my license, once to get new plates, and once when I finally got my car street legal (read that as inspected). Over the three visits I can say that three stars is definitely an average I can stand by for this location. First, I want to touch on the website. It is not helpful in the least. It is a bit misleading and confuses you even more when you arrive for your appointment. Sad thing is that you have to use the website to set up an appointment when you need to use this place. My first visit I was as prepared as I could be. Being that I just moved, and barely have any utilities at my new place, was struggling. My number finally was called and I go to the window and got some grief about needing a utility bill with my current address on it. I had just moved not even 30 days prior and just had things set up, paperless. They don't necessarily care about your preference to go paperless, they want you to have it printed out so that they can scan it. If I have to go to your website to set up an appointment, give me the option to upload a document so I don't have to come in with a thick file of materials that may meet your needs. I was then felt to make that I was in the wrong to not set up an appointment for everything all at once. If your website wasn't convoluted I would be fine with that. But it left me with more questions than answers. However, I will say that even though I didn't have what they needed they did offer to help me correct it and get the right materials and I was good to go on my license on this visit. Next visit I go for my plates. Again, no one tells me what to do prior and the website is confusing. I didn't know you could inspect your car prior to arriving, it's backwards from the state I was coming from. I also had a new employee that was being trained who was just as confused as me. We got it figured out and I had my new plates. My last visit, which was last week was to get my sticker to indicate my car passed the horrendous Maryland state inspection marathon. This visit was easy once I had some help from one of the workers there. She was lovely and guided me with ease. A few taps on the self help kiosks and I was set to go. Zero stars. Terrible facility staffed by callous creeps. My husband died. I had to sell his car to pay the mortgage. The customer service agent just stared at me when I told her my husband was dead. She immediately lied to me, telling me I couldn't title the car in my name without a lien release. All I had to do was fill out a form certifying that there was no lien on an old car. She made the process a thousand times harder. She was wearing a huge diamond ring and laughing and chatting with her co-workers during the transaction. No "I'm sorry for your loss." My journey began at the front desk. The lady was very nice and helpful, however after this.. I'm afraid the rest of my visit was tumultuous to say the least. I made my way to the back of the building in preparation first my skills test. However, I sat for nearly an hour, permeating in my worries. After this strenuous wait, my instructor peered her sullen face around the corner. The witch had appeared. Waddling towards my car, she yelled at my mother to exit the vehicle. Not a word of pleasantry was uttered. Afterwards, she told me to roll down the windows, however I had not heard which ones she had specified. I proceeded to ask her which ones, and was met with nothing but a judgmental glare and silence. I then rolled down all four windows, and the witch then shrieked at me, "I did not tell you to roll the back windows down!" Immediately, I apologized and corrected my "mishap". She then proceeded to totter around my car, commanding the emergency lights, turn signs, and a honk. No prior cars had honked, so I asked her if I should just do a quick beep beep on the spot. Again, nothing but icy daggers shot from her eye sockets. Subsequently, she pried the door open and sat down in the passenger seat --I felt the tremors throughout the car. She instructed me that I would go ahead to the course and that my exam had begun. Taking this as a sign to start driving, I pulled up ahead to the stop sign where she proceeded to yell at me again. "I DIDN'T TELL YOU TO DRIVE AHEAD YET!" I again profusely apologized to no avail. The witch had no intentions of letting up her onslaught of criticisms. Once she stopped yelling, she told me to make a right turn. There were three potential turns to make on my right, and so I logically made the first right turn available. "You failed." The words reverberated around the metallic coffin I resided in. "What did I do wrong?" I questioned. My error was that I had made a right turn too early, however I had no clarification on which turn to make. The witch opened the door and left, beckoning my mother's presence. Her shrieks were like metal spoons grating against each other. As I sat alone in the car, I contemplated to myself. "What the hell." My hour long wait for the driving skills test ended before I could even drive --a mere minute had I lasted, 1 star. I would put 0 if I could. read more

I read Yelp reviews the day before my MVA appointment. I haven't been inside of this MVA in years. I was dreading my 11AM appointment. I walk in 10:20 AM. I was told I can check-in on my phone 30 mins before my appointment. I sat in my car, checked in, received a number, went back in and sat down. My number was called within 20 minutes. I had a lien release and the lady who handled my papers had an ear piece in yapping away. I didn't care tbh. I'm not a fan of small talk. She was pleasant though. I was in and out in less than an hour. Not bad! I took 1 star away because it's a bit confusing and there no signage when you walk in. There's a law enforcement agent at the door who is helpful with the process. read more

I went over at this location to get my "real id" documents submitted. However after my appointment number got called the clerk told me that he needs my W2 document which i forgot to bring. He told me, it's not a problem i could use one of their computers & printers on the corner of the building to print out my missing W2 document. And then he told me after i printed it, just go to booth #24 to put my appointment number back in the system again. As i was sitting on one of the benches, there was no one at booth #24. So i talk to the lady on booth #25 if she could put my appointment number back again. She ask for my number and said, "Ok, just have a seat!" I waited for almost an 1 hour & 30 minutes but my number wasn't called. The lady on booth #25 just keep on glancing & sometimes staring at me until she packed up her bag at 3 o'clock for break. I couldn't believe she didn't put my number & had the conscience to just stare at me while she sits comfortably on her chair. A nice gentleman notice me & when i ask him to put back my appointment number back in the system immediately within a few seconds i was called by one of their employees. Unbelievable! Agreed that this place is a waste of time. We had an appointment for my daughter's driving test. For over 15 minutes no one was even at their desk. Long story short, it was 40 minutes past our appointment time by the time we were called for my daughter to take the test. The instructor was completely unclear with instructions. I had an appointment.on August 1st! I dreaded going to the MVA. Everyone hates the MVA, but this experience was different. My appointment was at 12. I got there and in line at 1130. They were really behind with giving numbers to appointment holders. If you have an appointment, pack your patience. Most of all, make sure you have all your paperwork. It will make it easy for you and all the people standing in line behind you. I got a phone call the day before confirming my time and at that time, I verified all the forms and needed. I had everything and more. I made sure to have originals of everything and had it in a folder to give to the check in desk and the person who actual took all the items. So while I got to the MVA, I probably should have waited closer to 1145-1150. They called all the 12:00 appointments at the same time; one at a time. They didn't call 1200 appointments until like 1220. Now I know! Now you know! At 102, I was in the car. My actual wait for my number to be called was about 10 minutes. My time with my agent was like 20-25 minutes. All in all it was a pretty decent experience. Thanks MVA! read more

AVOID THIS MVA AT ALL COSTS if you're going for your road test. The examiners are completely rude, condescending, and unclear in their instructions to you. If you ask for any clarification, they will give you attitude, and simply repeat the instructions that they already gave verbatim. No clarification given at all when needed. They will also loudly put you down in the course and embarrass you in front of everyone rather than offer constructive criticism. I am usually forgiving and understanding, but please Beltsville MVA - find a new job if you hate your lives that much!!! My experience here is not as bad as it was at the Largo location. Just expect long lines period. I came in to get an ID replacement, which online showed you can do at the kiosk. However, in order for anyone to answer if that was in fact the case, they made me stand in line to get to the information booth which of course was wrapped around the building. Once I finally got to the front of the line, they told me to go to the kiosk smh. Staff weren't unpleasant, just wish someone could've answered the question a lot sooner. When she said I failed my test she proceeded to near YELL at me talking about where is the parking space I should reverse into. The people inside at the desk are also horribly rude like I know you hate your job but please be a little nicer. When you ask questions to the driving instructor they proceed to not answer it and repeat what they just told you verbatim. So I am always sitting in the car completely confused on what to do. The instructions they tell you are not in detail and are general so it makes you ask more questions that they REFUSE to help you answer.
