This place moves very efficiently! I appreciate the update in wait times online , so that anyone can plan accordingly from home, but honestly, on average its a 15-25 min visit, and you're in and out in no time. The staff is courteous, but want to get you out of there faster than you do-so be polite and keep it moving. Just some pro tips- as of now, they don't accept payments like apple pay, so you'll have to use an actual credit card. Beware of your gps accidentally taking through the nearby metro station parking lot to get to the emissions place ..you'll have to pay to exit out (sigh). And follow the exact instructions of the emissions attendant...otherwise you'll hold up the lines. I highly recommend this location..especially, after 6 years later :) read more

The most painless experience I've had in DMV for emissions. It was kind of in the middle of nowhere and required me to drive through some neighborhoods, but some signs will let you know you're in the right place. Just pull into a lane, someone will help you out, and after they check a couple things you're done in less than 2 minutes. I have only been to one other VEIP location outside of this one. The times I have been here, I have never experienced very long lines. I love it that you can see the estimated wait times from the MVA website for each location - it is quite helpful. When they first opened on the Saturday morning I visited (they are closed on Sundays), I could see a still image online of the line of cars waiting and it also showed the wait time as well - it showed 5 minutes. By the time I got there, which was around 30 minutes after they opened, the wait time decreased to just 1 minute. I saw only 1 car waiting in line so I knew I would be in and out in a few minutes. I saw a few employees directing folks on which bay to enter - at the time, several had no cars in them. I drove up - they tell you when to stop your vehicle. Opened my gas cover as they did their thing. Paid my fee - got my results and was on my way in about 5 minutes or less. The whole process was quick. I was worried that this place will be packed on Saturday so we planned on coming here at 7 in the morning on Saturday. Turned out that they aren't that busy on Saturday. Plus if you're planning on coming here, there is a live camera showing their business. They have a lot of lanes opened and they are efficient. You go in, follow instructions, pay $14, and you are good to go in about 5 mins. Seems easy enough. I think the hardest part of this whole thing is their location. You are going to cut through a neighborhood which feels weird. Nice townhomes, but you are going to drive through to get your emissions test done. What's cool about this location is you can go onto their website and see a live camera feed of what the line looks like. I woke up Saturday morning and checked out the camera and saw only one car in line so I headed over. When I got there I drove straight in to start my test. They ask you a few questions and then you hop out of your car for a minute or two. They practice good social distancing and even have spaces on the floor marked for customers to stand. I swiped my card and I was out the garage in under five minutes. As the world moves toward electric vehicles it's nice to know emissions testing is evolving too. read more

If you live in Maryland, every couple of years you have to take your car and get the emissions checked. We got out of work early today, so I headed over to get this necessary task done. Being the day after Thanksgiving, there were only 10 or less cars waiting their turn at 5-6 bay stations. So it wasn't very busy. I waited my turn, drove in and they processed to assess my car with their emissions reader/computer diagnostic test. The inspector was very pleasant and friendly, he conducted the test quickly and then walked me through paying for the service. This was not how I wanted to spend 45 minutes, the day after a holiday but the experience was a good one because a) it went quickly b) the lines were short and c) the service staff were friendly expedient professional, who are very skilled at their jobs. I visited between 9-10am on a Wednesday and there was no line whatsoever there. I brought my dog with me during the VEIP inspection and the person who was doing the inspection for me was so kind to my dog and I. I had forgotten the VEIP notice but he was willing and able to look up my information. I was really thankful about that because I had gotten myself needing to retrieve the letter at home before during busy hours. He was also very efficient at completing the task and I was out of his station in less than 5 minutes time interval. The technicians working here are efficient and friendly. Came for my emissions test on a Thursday at 2:55. I was nervous when I first pulled up because of the 6 car long line in each line. However, I quickly noticed how fast the lines were moving! When I drove up there were no cars ( Thursday at 3:30pm), however within minutes, there was about 6 cars that drove up. I literally sat in the car during 80 percent of the inspection. Wow, this place is pretty dang efficient! There were several lines open and most cars were zipping through at about 5 minutes each. When we arrived, we were fourth in line. After just 2-3 minutes, the first car was done! From arrival to finish, we were probably there about 15 minutes. Just be sure to bring, your emissions test slip that the MVA mailed to you, $14 in cash or credit, and know where your on-board diagnostic outlet is located. Our technician had a little trouble finding it below the steering wheel. Luckily, I knew exactly where it was so that definitely expedited matters. I usually dread doing anything related to the Department of Motor Vehicles. However, I've been here twice to get an emissions inspection and each time has been painless. Late in the afternoon on a weekday lines were minimal, with only one car in front of me. If I was in line in one bay, but another was open, the inspector would quickly motion me over. Pull up until you are told to stop. Turn off your car. Hand over your emissions paperwork. Get out of car for a couple minutes and pay ($14) while the inspector performs the test. He lets you know that you passed, hands you your receipt, and you are on your way. Both times I've been in and out in less than 10 minutes. Painless! read more

We got here around 3:30pm and there were 6 lanes, each of the lanes at least 6 cars deep. I had received my Emissions notice back in May, stating that I must have the test done by July 21st, but like a true procrastinator, I applied for an extension online the day before the due date and it was granted. The extension delayed expiration until November something. The line went by fairly quickly considering all of the cars surrounding us. My only fear was that I'd get rejected because I didn't have my Emissions paperwork on me, luckily all I needed was my car registration which had my title number. The technician was able to conduct the test, he was super friendly and although it took 20 minutes to get to the front, it took less than 5 minutes to complete my session. Wow. What a striking difference there is compared to MVA services. If you come early in the morning, the wait is rather short. The total time I spent until the completion was about 20 min. You pull up, hop out of your car and before you know it your inspection will be complete. I'll share one secret that a lot of procrastinators will find useful. If you are overdue for an inspection, you are charged hefty fees(~$20/month). In all fairness, I didn't get my inspection notice and I told the attendant and he brought his manager to override the late fees. I'm sure you get my point :) read more

Yeah, I'm a bad little scofflaw! I got the notice that my 2 years were up and I needed to get my emissions test...and I put that notice right in my purse. For the next several weeks, I would randomly think about going to get my car tested, but honestly, every time I thought I would go and just do it...I realized that something more interesting...ummm...I mean, important, would come up. Then I went on vacation. Then I came back and was too tired from vacation. Then I got the "you have 5 days to comply or you're in deep doo-doo" letter. Crap. So I rush over to the VIP station that is 3 miles from my house (shut up) after work one day...only to realize that that station has CLOSED! NOOO! So on day 6 (a Saturday), I fabricated a whole complex sob story about how/why I couldn't do this sooner. I won't tell you the story (I may need it again), but it involved alien abductions, Lindsay Lohan stealing my car, and an evil twin that has been stealing my mail. With much intrepidation, I pull into a long line at this VIP station in Derwood (really, Rockville), and before I could wobble my lower lip and squeeze out a tear, the VIP station manager guy comes up to my car and tells me that it's 12:30 and the station closes at 1...and there is about a 45 minute line right now...so why don't I just park and go into the office behind him and get an extension/waiver and come back another day. WHAT WHAT?!?!?! HELLO MY DEAR! I happily left the VIP station with a nice little note saying that I have until April to comply! But let's face it...it's awfully cold and rainy in April...so the likelihood that I'll be able to do this in time is a little slim........................... read more

I think it's funny we all are leaving Yelp reviews on a compulsory service for anyone who owns a car. The whole purpose of Yelp - that is, to provide feedback as background information for a business to determine its efficacy and to help consumers decide on a single purveyor of service among many competitors - is negated by such compulsion. It's not like we can go anywhere else to get this service done... So, you come to this location to get your emissions checked. You'll wait in line behind 2-10 cars. I almost tried to turn into the adjacent construction lot, but fortunately the continued MVA signage saved me from that embarrassment. I'm glad they open promptly at 7 am two days a week, since it made my VEIP experience relatively painless. Some idling queues feed into more than one service lane, so gauge the line accordingly. Flawless customer service. I can't say the same for the main MVA offices. On a weekday, the place was not packed at 9:30am. I needed to settle some late notices on a family account since we moved and didn't get them, and they were very understanding of my case. Not only did the front desk guy chat with me about where I was from and make small talk, but the staff all had a good rapport with each other. The manager came out and helped us with out account with no questions asked. They did my emissions test quickly, and bid me a great day. Service was fast and friendly as I completed my mandatory 2 year emission test. There was a minimal wait as I ventured here on my lunch break. As I pulled out my paperwork to hand to the employee I noticed a new feature for self service emission. This intrigued me as I rather complete task like this on my own time/schedule without being limited by traditional business hours and days. So I asked the employee what self service was all about and how to complete. The employees response was not helpful. I was told it can be completed at MVA but that was all the employee shared. When I inquired about the difference in price, again no helpful information or attempt to ask a colleague or manager. So this is either a training issue with the facility or an attempt by the employee to increase/sustain business at the face to face facility. In the future, I will definitely seek out the self service option for $4.00 less than the standard emission test price. read more

It's my first time that I had my emissions done at this location and let me tell you how impressed I am with their service. The technicians are very friendly and fast. I arrived around 5:30 pm and only waited for atleast 10 mins in line and had my test done in 5 mins. All together I was out in 5:50 pm. Since I get off at 5 everyday, Their Tuesday and Wednesday 7am to 7pm schedule worked out for me. :) read more
