Absolutely the best MVA / DMV experience I have ever had! First of all, Maryland has recently adopted an online appointment system which seems to have successfully streamlined their flow / day-to-day fluctuation of visitors. Traditionally I envision myself sitting in a crowded room waiting at least an hour to be seen. Here, I would say the waiting room was at 33% capacity. I got in at around 8:50 for a 9:30 appointment. Went to the desk where the gentleman at the desk told me that I had to wait until at least 9:15 to check in for a 9:30 appointment. No problem. At 9:15 am I came back and checked in. By 9:20 I was sitting at a booth. By 9:38 I walked out the door with my Maryland driver's license. For the icing on the cake, the employees at this location that I encountered seem to be genuinely happy and friendly with customers. read more

I think MVA Express is a GREAT idea. It is so much better than standing in line forever at the full-service MVA. They get you in and out in no time. They also have a kiosk to get you in and out even faster. read more

Perfect for what it's function is: tags and renewals quickly. No need to go to a Full Service MVA if you have simple things like returning tags. Took me all of 20 SECONDS in and out the door! This was after waiting an hour and a Hal the last time I went to the Full Service MVA, so it was a blessing. 5 stars because it serves its purpose perfectly. read more

My mother and I went to renew our licenses early and were in and out in less than an hour. The room was full when we got inside so we expected a long wait, but to our surprise we were called up pretty quickly, within minutes of each other, and left with new licenses in a very short time. I have never had an mva experience go so quickly. Luther, the guy who checked me in, helped me so much that I decided to write this. He went out of his way to try and figure out a way for me to be able to get my license since I didnt know if I had the right paperwork and since I was from out of state my application for a license went through a "hard stop" he saw me waiting too long for someone to call my number and once again went out of his way and checked the status of the hard stop. Really easy to get to, plenty of parking and easy to get your ticket. Great alternative to the main MVA office where I have spent HOURS at before. Touch screen, get ticket, and wait until the numbers called over loudspeaker. The employees here are really smooth and efficient, and even helpful towards the elderly. (A very old couple came in at snail pace, and the first guy at the counter told them to proceed to him to get them started. How nice!) My lady was really speedy and sent me off with a happy new year. Very pleased that it only took 3 minutes to get my service done, with a 10 minute wait on a busy morning. read more

Told me I needed different paperwork 3 times to renew my license this is why people drive illegally. They want a proof of adress I don't have utilities under my name because there included in my rent. Showed them my lease wasn't good enough and bank statement's with my name and adress. I found team at this location very helpful on multiple occasions. And wait time time is not horrendous like at the other MD MVAs.

I made an appointment on their website to renew my drivers license at the Walnut Hill office but it turned out to be a waste of my time because when I arrived there I found a long line of people waiting in a line to get a number & around 70 people seated around waiting for their number to be called. . This is also what I had to do. After obtaining my number I waited approximately 2 hours before my number was called. It took another half hour to renew the license. I found the wait time that is posted on the website is not at all accurate. read more

The supervisor was so rude she even got mad at me when I asked could I go get money from the ATM after there card machine was not working properly she stated the chip on the card reader never worked since we got them you need you to make a new appointment if you do not have check I can not help you she was even yelling at the top of her lungs at me all I was trying to do was renew my drivers license at my appointment read more

People who man the info desk are not well informed. I needed to add my daughter as a co-owner to the title and they told me we only needed the title signed on the back but when I got to MVA main office near Clopper Rd, we were told MD inspection was required as well. It was a waste time and effort besides unnecessary stress. Probably the people at the info desk volunteer and not paid employees. It was so hard to get specific info from the MVA website and equally hard to reach anyone on the phone. People have historically hated on the MVA. There are literally memes about how terrible it is visiting an MVA. The action itself is annoying because no one likes running errands, standing in lines, or waiting around but GAITHERSBURG MVA was about as good as you're gonna get. The employees were nice and they knew what they were doing. The trick is not go during peak hours. I would have to go back and look at my check in but I'm pretty sure I went in the middle of the afternoon and the wait wasn't too bad at all. I needed to get turn in my South Carolina Drivers License and get a Maryland DL. The whole process took about an hour. You Stand in one line to tell a clerk what you need to get done and they give you a number assigning you to the proper specialist. Probably waited for a bout 30 mins or less then my number was called and i sat down with a specialist. Quick vision test and I was on my way. I think this location off 355 gets much less traffic than the one off Clopper so if you need something MVA/DMV related I would suggest coming here. read more

A bit of an unethical racket being run here. When you move to a fairly new development, their system cannot recognize the address so you conveniently have to come in and pay $20 for a new license. They say its because the post office, yet I was able to update my address via the post office on a standard change of address online form. I wont mention the woman who was then inputting my information marking me down as White Caucasian, when I look like the stereotypical IT Indian male. Perhaps when she saw I was a registered Republican, she figured I must be white. read more

I have recently moved to Maryland from Virginia and came to MVA to get state ID. MVA has nothing what you hate visits to DMV for. Employees of MVA were all so nice that I was pleasantly surprised. I have taken a book to read, prepared for good 3-4 hour wait, but in stead I got my number in 5-10 min and then waited for only an hour or so to get to the window. MVA is amazing. read more

There is a 24 hour dropbox at this location (MVA Express - Walnut Hill) for returning license plates. There is a form to fill out that gives you the option to either email the receipt to you or have it mailed to you. You do need to fill out a decent amount of information including title number, tags, address, VIN, etc. You are supposed to include a copy of your registration as well. I rubberbanded the form, the license plates, and registration together and then dropped it off. Later that day, I got my receipt in my email and cancelled my insurance. read more

This place is horrible! Came in for license renewal. Online wait time said 15 minutes but waited over an hour. They definitely do not move the line efficiently and definitely do not specialize in license renewals! I arrived before many and was one of the last ones to leave. Not sure how they prioritize or move the line but this place is horrible. I was so irritated. The online wait estimator through my entire time there was never higher than 25 minutes so how did I wait an hour! They are inefficient and do not know what they are doing here. 2/8/2017 @ 10a - Quick in and out service. I had my questions answered by the MD State Trooper (very handsome by the way!) and the man at the information desk. I was done in about 5 minutes. This is my go-to location in the area as you can pretty much get most things done at this express location that seems to have more services than the other express locations. Extremely happy I was able to get in an out within an hour. The lines move steadily in comparison to other MVA locations which was a major plus. My only negatives is the enforcing of kiosk use of individuals under 40 but that will be implemented in every MVA. read more

This is such a good idea, I can hardly believe the MVA thought of it. My experience at the full service one was so bad, I was expecting the worst. But I had just taken a number and barely sat down when my number was called. They should have more of these to reduce crowding at the full service ones. read more

My experience at the Gaithersburg MVA was as good as it gets! I needed to get my drivers license renewed, and I was in and out in 20 minutes. Getting an appointment online is key. Otherwise, my time at MVA would have been much longer. I also went at a non-peak time (mid-week, mid-month, in the morning). When I walked in, a polite employee quickly directed me to the correct line. I received my number in a few minutes and was called to the counter a few minutes after that. All of the employees who helped me were courteous and efficient. Hats off to them for providing a service that we all need. read more

Beware of the women with the curly hair that talks really ghetto I needed to get my license plate since it never came in my mail and that curly haired lady I think her name started with an s but I told her very clearly that my license plate has gotten lost in the mail and she gave me the worst attitude and also gave me a sticker instead of the license plate like wtf then I had to wait another hour and they didn't put my number back in the system so my number never got called making me wait there even longer.THIS IS THE WORST MVA EVER read more

Ok, I usually don't review public services but I have to for this one! I heard so many bad things from car shops, etc. but yesterday, we needed a new driver's license and new plates x2. All in all it took about an hour. Minimum waiting time and smooth process. But DO your home work and get all your documents with you. The website is very detailed. Go to the regular MVA. This express used to be quick but so many come here due to the " express" name and find that the wait for the easy things are way longer than if you'd have gone to regular MVA. read more

I made an appointment for my DL renewal which was a month ahead of time. Showed up and waited for more than 30 min to get called. The clerk was fastidious about everything I showed to the point that they made my husband to run back and forth twice from our house to MVA for brining the documents that were not even necessary to begin with. We had my naturalization and passport and still that wasn't sufficient enough so they made him go back and bring my citizenship certificate because of an error in the birth date in my passport. Mind you that they were pushing me out of the door while there is no appointment available for three month and my DL was expired. They made me go in line again and get a second number, once I was called I was at the verge of crying and my pic was taken. I waited for 5 hours to get my renewal and this was the worst experience I had in all my dealings with MVA. The supervisor was the worst and tried to make everything more difficult for me while I saw she was giving a slip to someone else for a week later to get the document she needed. Go to a regular MVA - people here do not have the correct / complete information at the information desk (I didn't go beyond this point). I had gone to this MVA for getting State IDs for my dependents and the man at the information desk wanted address proof. He was rude and wasn't listening to what I was saying - he kept repeating that bring bank statements, credit card statements, government letters etc would be required under their names. I guess he would expect all the kids below 18 years to have these documentations. On the website it is clearly mentioned that you can have a certificate of residency and provide your own residency proof for your dependents (I had taken all these documents along). But he is completely unaware of this and insisted that we come back with documents under their names! read more

Outstanding Service. I went to return the tags. First, I was immediately given a printed token and was told to wait for one minute. Surprised to receive the call within one minute. Second, the entire tranaction was completed in a minute therafter. So, within about two minutes, my job was done! Great service. I was also pleasantly surprised to see the well upgraded (and very welcoming) office space, with nice seating arrangements. Well done MVA! read more
