I always steer my students there since you can get a decent uke for just over $100. Then you can take your time to get a better uke once you are sure you want to get better. If you don't get their complete attention, it usually means they are dealing with a difficult customer, but they will get to you.

I met Harry Tueting the year he opened Harry's Guitars on Glenwood Avenue near downtown Raleigh. I bought strings and played new guitars I could not buy- no steady job. Still I had a clunker to bang on. I took lessons from Steve Howell in the early years. I met Terry Dineen when he began some years later. He was just a kid but he knew a lot more about guitars than I did. I'd played since I was 12, on cheap guitars, but I played. Thanks to the things I learned through visiting this business, I've developed into a modestly decent player. I've met musicians of every skill level in a place where I feel welcome. I've listened to people crank the amps and play for HOURS. No one ever objected. I know and understand the value of a good guitar. I've bought -and returned- guitars from Harry's. Nobody complained. I read the bad reviews given herein and I am STUNNED. Perhaps the reviewers are (1) upset because they did something out of ignorance and can't get over it or (2) have an ax to grind because they weren't regarded as royalty or (3) are simply mean spirited. I cannot in any way associate anyone I know, or have known, at Harry's Guitars with the ugliness I read in those "reviews". Not under Harry's watch. Not under Scott and Mike's watch. The guys working the floor are all musicians with professionalism! I love coming to this location because you are bound to receive some attention from the workers. The only draw back is that it is rather small... so they are limited on what they have instock. They had no talent and an even worse sound system. Typically at a Dueling Piano event money talks...the more you tip the more priority your request gets. Not these guys. I tipped $30 for "Afternoon Delight" by Starland Vocal Band a number 1 hit single. I wanted to dedicate this to my wife for her 67th birthday. They kept noting people tipping $20 over and over and even noted...and played a song for one guy who had tipped $10 for 6 songs!!! They played about 5 or 6 requests from a single table and about 3 or 4 from the $10 guys table. Finally toward the end of the evening after at least half of the patrons had left, the guy who appeared to be the lead finally came over to our table to tell us they didn't know Afternoon Delight. When I told him never mind and asked for my money back he at first tried to argue the point. And on top of this my wife had tipped $20 to get "Jody's Got your Girl and Gone" by the great Johnny Taylor. Another classic R & B hit. Then the little guy gets up at the microphone and tries to blame us and others for requesting songs they didn't know by saying we must have never been to a piano bar before. Take some responsibility little guy you have no idea how many bars I have been to nor how many songs I have requested from truly talented performers.
