I came here for my hair and makeup trial. The vibes on the phone were so good! I felt really excited. When I arrived I was met at the door by the "bridal expert" I felt like I was a burden right away. She was annoyed my hair was still somewhat wet and she said to make sure I wash it the night before and to tell all my bridesmaids to wash it the night before. Ok, not an issue. The makeup portion went fine we had a good conversation, so things were looking up. I think she did a great job on my eyes, but I really wanted some great contouring and I don't think she did that. Hair, this is where we went downhill. She said my hair was dry. I apologized and promised to use product before the wedding. She said not to use product the week before because she wouldn't be able to do anything with it, I've never heard of such a thing. I asked for two pieces left out to curl to frame my face. While trying to curl them she said she didn't like these pieces and asked if she can just CUT them off! She was frustrated I didn't have extensions. And I told her I was open to them if it was needed to achieve the look and if she couldn't do that without them to focus on either the updo part or just curl the bottom. Idk why, but she teased the bottom. It looked like a rats nest. I don't understand how she could leave it like that. How would that make me want to come back with my bridal party!? Maybe I was just an inconvenience and she didn't want me to come back? Really disappointed. As soon as I saw it I said thank you and paid $150. I didn't bother to comment or ask her to change anything cause at that point I knew I'd be going elsewhere. read more

I went in for an appt with Heidi to go from brunette to blonde. I specifically stated that I wanted to keep my brunette as the base and roots. However, my entire head was bleached and my hair was yellow with orange on top. My hair was then toned to "fix it" and then I ended up with blue hair. I then had to leave with yellow/blue hair & come back to have it fixed for the 3rd time. Since I realized I wasn't going to get what I originally wanted, I decided to go for ashy blonde with lavender. See the picture below of what I showed to the stylist. Fast forward and my hair looks nothing like the picture and I have a weird base color on top. Not sure why the base color was added!? In the picture shown there is all-over color. I paid $225 and still didn't get what I asked for. Let's fast forward- I have so many colors going on in my hair. It's a mess. I went to a salon with true color specialists and was told I need a massive color correction. I got multiple opinions from various stylists and they all said the same thing-massive color correction needed. It's going to cost me $300 to fix my hair because it's a disaster. I don't recommend this salon & I don't plan on ever going back. read more

This is a very nice hair salon which is something that I'm not used to. I hate to admit it, but I usually go to quick hair cut chains because I don't have the patience to set up a hair appointment. I'm the type of person that would rather just get in and get out and avoid all of the hassle. But I was in the area and just happened to call to see if they accept walk-ins. Although they usually prefer appointments they were able to accommodate me if I came in before a certain time. Jeremy cut my hair and did a fabulous job! He seemed extremely knowledgeable in not only what kind of hair style would look good for me, but also about hair products in general. And this place does sell a lot of hair products specializing in a lot of organic and even some gluten free products. Yeah, gluten free. I didn't know it existed either. I would highly recommend this place and Jeremy. My haircut ran me about $44 but I didn't get the shampoo or blow dry or blow out or whatever it's called. #SimpleHair read more

I have thick South American curly hair and it's a challenge for most stylist. I also happen to have a BFA in fine art and set out to make my hair the color purple. You also get referral cards to give to friends in order to get 20% off your next visit. Plus your friend gets 20% off as well. What I like about Suzanne is that she really focuses on your hair, and doesn't talk the whole time. I mean, when I am drawing or painting, I need quiet in order to focus. Went here for the first time to get my hair done for my wedding (Debi did an amazing job with my thick, curly hair!) Since then (5 years ago), Heidi is my stylist and I drive from Arlington Heights just to make sure my hair is cut right! She has also colored it for me. I've had a lifetime of bad cuts, styles, etc., because of this curly disaster, but Heidi knows her stuff! All I want is low-maintenance, which is a lot to ask for when you have curls, but she gets it right. Everyone at the salon is friendly, the atmosphere is nice, and I love that they use organic products. I also had Keera give me some color once, and she was fantastic too, overall I'd trust any of the women to work on my hair because you know they know what they are doing, Debi doesn't hire people who are inexperienced. It's a hike for me to drive back to Elmhurst, but it's worth it to know I'm not going to walk out looking like a poodle! I'll keep going back to My Friend's Place forever! read more

I've been going to My Friend's Place for about 13 years now. I actually live in Chicago, but I make the trip out to Elmhurst every month for a cut and color because the salon is so fabulous. I went to see Nicole. I did my research, and I felt like her experience and age would work well. I got in there and instantly I felt welcomed. The staff was very sweet and did not feel overly intimidated by the Salon like other Salons I've been too. I met Nicole and we hit it off. She cut my hair like no other. I have naturally thin hair, but she cut my hair in a way where I had no split ends but still carried volume. I will be returning because I want to see what Nicole does to my hair for color. Side note: I recommended my mom to see Nicole. We book an appt for a cut and color. Nicole calls my mother before the appt so she can get a better idea of what we meant my color. She has styled and colored my hair with lengths from halfway down my back to ear length to shoulder length. Fantabulous!! Was looking for a great place to go. Asked a friend who has lived in the area for many years and she recommended Debi and the girls at My Friends Place salon. My friend is my friend for a reason, and she was spot on! So hard to find a really really good place to go and this is it. Have my hair cut and colored by Debi and she just absolutely gets it. As does Nicole. No one does a blow out or style like them. Always so happy when I leave. They use organic products so it is gentle with minimal/no damage. I am very upset with this place. They damaged my hair while making curls. One section of my hair is severely burnt, it changed its texture and will probably break at some point. It's been a few month since the service and I can't recover that burnt section of my hair, nothing helps. The curling iron that the stylist used was old, it barely worked and could not hold a curl, so she was spraying my hair with hairspray as crazy while having her curling iron on heigh heat holding it for a long time, my hair got burnt. It's very unfortunate that I went to a salon where specialists work, I paid the money for a professional service only to end up with a stylist who did not invest in their curling iron and damaged my hair so badly. If you do not maintain your tools then maybe this business is not for you. I treat my hair very carefully and have long locks that require time and dedication and for somebody to just burn it is beyond bad. When I go to a hair salon I expect a stylist to take care of my hair, that's what I pay for. Very very disappointed and would not recommend it to anyone. Although the stylist was nice and talkative, I did not come there for a chitchat, I came to style my hair, damaging a client's hair is a huge fail. HORRIBLE!! DO NOT GO HERE!!! I went here for homecoming and the lady that worked with me was so RUDE! I first walked in and thought the place was some what cute for Elmhurst and I thought they'd actually do a good job due to reviews on google/yelp. So I went in and saw the lady that was doing my hair and I showed her a picture of what I wanted for my hair and let me just tell you guys my hair is very long and frizzy so due to the fact that I just got out of the shower and it's very curly in general the lady said she would straighten it and curl it. First of all she didn't straighten it at all, when you don't straighten my hair and you curl it , it's still frizzy... how can you not understand simple directions...... so when she first started she said wow you have so much hair and so she had an appointment 15 minutes after me so it was 15 minutes before and the lady asked the other person who was doing hair saying very disrespectfully . She has so much hair.. can you help me, making me feel bad for the summoning of hair I have. So when the lady said no. She rushed and used the wrong curling iron that makes my hair poofy. My Friend's Place is where I go to get my hair colored and cut, but I come out with so much more. I have had my thin and fair hair cut to take on wave and look thicker. This place is incredible. They are super friendly and really accomplish the goal of pleasing clients. As soon as I walked in they offered to take my coat and asked me if I needed any coffee, tea, etc. My hair has been through a lot and I knew that it would be a long process to get it back to a healthy, natural color. She finished up cosmetology school two years ago and works at My Friend's Place Salon under review in hopes of being able to become a part of the staff. She was very nice and had conversations with me while working conscientiously. Lindsey does her work in a neat and gentle manner, and that is very much appreciated!
