We needed our 27 year old brick patio cleaned and relaid. two other contractors told us the pavers could not be cleaned and would have to be completely replaced. we contacted Daniel after reading very positive reviews. he responded immediately and stopped by within hours at the end of his workday. He said yes it could be cleaned and the pavers reused. he also said we could replace the pavers if we preferred. he spent a lot of time explaining how he would do it and how it would look, and he took a few minutes to provide estimates for both ways, both of which were very reasonable. We decided the next day to go with him for washing and reusing the pavers and when we asked if he could do it the next month he readily agreed to our timetable. the patio is beautiful and we couldn't be happier. while his crew was at our house, we asked them to extend the project by washing and resetting some stone landscape walls that were in bad shape. so they took care of that as well, and we couldn't be happier. what we especially liked about Daniel was his practicality and ability to reuse existing material. his price couldn't be beat, he was so responsive and we will definitely use him again. read more

When we bought the house a few years ago, there was just an old small concrete slab patio, and most of the backyard was wet/muddy for most of the spring so we hardly even spent time back there. We've had a water issue with our basement since we've owned our house -- approximately 7 years. We've had 2 different interventions done to try and resolve the issue: new sump and backup pumps, and even re-routing drain lines around our house. Daniel at My Landscape Contractor proposed a solution involving a French drain that was less expensive and less invasive than alternatives we'd had proposed. It was half the price of some of the much more invasive approaches proposed by waterproofing and other landscaping companies. To be honest, I was a little skeptical -- how had no one else come up with this? Daniel and his team did the work efficiently, fixing issues that arose during the project, and ultimately giving us an attractive plot of fresh sod with a hidden French drain underneath. And best of all: during the last two days of rainstorms, we have had ZERO water in our basement. And the rain was INTENSE. This was the stress test I waited to see before writing the review. We had some major issues with water "ponding" in our back yard. MLC put in some French drains in May of 2017. Did a nice job, infilled with dirt, graded, seeded after completion and covered the seed with the hay moisture-saving mats. I watered for about a month and grass grew in very thick. Anyways, we have had as you all know several rain events this summer and crazy accumulations. While the pond still forms in the low area, it drains quickly (few hours). Also put a French drain along a low spot on the east side of the house that works well too. Bottom line, MLC and crew did a great job in two days and left little or no mess. I would highly recommend them. They also did some minor paver re-work and sealed our pavers. read more

We hired Daniel and his crew to tear down an existing wooden deck and design and install a paver patio and firepit in our backyard. They did an exceptional job. Daniel's design included using permeable pavers to solve issues with pooling rainwater and working around buried lines/pipes for our inground pool. Daniel did a great job installing our new brick patio, fire pit and French drain. The entire job was done in 3 days. The only reason he didn't get 5 stars was because in the process, a couple main sprinkler lines needed to be cut. He did tell us ahead of time, however, and said not to worry as he had someone that could do the repair (Salinas and Sons). Salinas turned out to be an unreliable and actually a more expensive vendor. After chasing Salinas, they finally quoted and scheduled the repair. I started on a retaining wall myself and underestimated the complexity to be sure the wall would be level. I had the trench dug and materials already at the house, but decided I needed someone professional to come finish the job. We hired Daniel a second time to rebuild a back retaining garden wall. He did a terrific job, managing to reuse the old stones we had, which saved us money and also kept that section of the yard looking more like the rest of the yard. I should add that Daniel had done earlier work on rebuilding a slate outdoor landing. He did a great job on that, but we wanted him to redo a small section, narrowing the gaps between two stones. My husband and I were SO proud of the awesome garden wall we built in front of our home in 2011....however, Chicago winters and rains did not like the wall as much, so they knocked it down. I had contacted a different company about coming to fix the wall, but after months and months of back-and-forth, I got frustrated and just wanted our embarrassing front wall fixed. One Saturday afternoon in September, I went to Yelp and found Daniel's company. I sent an email and heard back that same day from Daniel. He asked for some pictures of our broken-down wall and provided a quote only hours after my initial email (a lower quote than we were given by the other contractor I was going to use, by the way). Can't say enough good things about Daniel. He came out to quote me on tearing out my deck, re-grading my backyard, putting in a french drain, raising the window wells, some new landscape bushes, and a new brick patio. He was probably the 3-4 person I had come out to quote, and I knew right away I would hire him. He knew EXACTLY what I was asking for, and was confident in doing the work (not the case with the others). I was having water issues in my basement, and thus the regrade/swale of the property, etc. He handled the filing for permits with the village for me which was a nice surprise.
