After living in my new construction house, my wife and I decided that it was finally time to get a backyard patio. All we saw was a bare backyard with a lot of green grass with some weeds. We did have some "wants" on our list which included a natural gas firepit, natural gas line for grill, seating for ~6-8 people, and enough room for entertain with some food, drinks, and a nice place to relax. From the start to the finish, Grant and Power was completely different than the other companies. Other locations just met you outside, what you wanted, and how big. Then we got a quote. However, when I contacted Grant and Powers, they started out with an email with some essential information like their insurance, a pamphlet and other information to get us started. We talked about what we were looking and then waited for our appointment Our appointment was different. Instead of going outside and talking about size... Gene sat us down to talk to us. He wanted to know what we wanted, what we were looking for and what we wanted to spend. We told him about how we were going to use the space and what we wanted and gave him our budget. Afterwards we talked about modern trends and what designs are in/out, how we wanted to place everything. Then off he went with the rest of the team to start designing it after a small down payment. He asked about budget and we talked about how much it might cost, but of course, the final bill could vary depending on the design. A few weeks later, we had another appointment where he showed us the design and it was amazing. They really sat down and listened to what we wanted because it looked amazing. The budget was completely out of our range.. granted, we knew our budget was on the low side of things, but they were willing to work with us to make this affordable. Finally, our day arrived. We got a call the night before that they were arriving in the morning to get started. During the process, the team were good...i would give them a 4.5/5 for a few minor things.They did talk to us a few times but I wish we were updated better. They were good about protecting our lawn even though some areas did suffer. Luckily (For us and them), our backyard had nothing out there. It was just bare land with green-ish grass. From start to finish, they were done in a week. We waited an extra day for another group of guys to show up to set up the firepit and show us how to use it. They were in and out fairly quickly. In the end, we got a beautiful patio. One section to entertain/eat. The other area is for the firepit and grill. Due to the design, they both feel separate from each other. We did find some minor damages that the team did not let me know or Gene. But he is going out of his way to making it right and I appreciate it. Ive had some neighbors stop by to marvel at the patio. Overall, if I were to ever move away, I would go back to this company to design a beautiful space again. I would completely recommend this company if you are looking for the same. read more

We had our backyard patio redone by G & P. After meeting with Shawn to discuss the design, he had a beautiful mockup made up for us before the work began. Scheduling was easy, they got right to work. When there were issues, Shawn was in touch immediately and the issues were resolved often before we even realized they existed. The patio and retaining wall are gorgeous! The steps out to the yard, and the stoop from the house are a HUGE improvement over what we had before, and all done for a very reasonable price, especially since we did shop around. Needless to say, we love our new backyard and hubby even says he now has room for more grills! We have no complaints; the workmanship, value, and communication were all outstanding. read more

This place is a joke. I made an appt 2.5 weeks out. They called to confirm the day before. I made arrangements with my work to be home at this time (not easy for a physician to work from home). An hour before he's supposed to come, Shawn calls me to move the appt. I could not make the new time work, so I said no. He comes anyway at the appointed time, with an attitude to bat, and spends 7 minutes at my place. Did not listen to all my concerns and wants etc before he says 'ok I have all I need. I'll take some pictures and get back to you with an estimate.' Uhh ok. At this point, I knew this was a waste of time. He comes back a few days later with a quote for $65,000, and that didn't include everything I wanted done (bc he didn't listen in the first place). I got 2 more quotes, both of which were around $35,000. At this point, we knew he was just trying to rip us off since it's clear we have a very nice piece of property. You know when people just don't want to do the job so they massively over quote you? Yeah that's these people. Pro tip - get a few other quotes if you get one from these guys so you know you aren't being ripped off. read more

Grant and Power completed a fairly complex driveway and sidewalk project with some interesting and challenging components. (Drainage issues, sewer and water issues, permitting issues, etc.) Shawn was very helpful in the planning stages and gave us some good ideas (and interesting alternatives when our initial choice of brick was not available). His team was hard working, and did an excellent job. The finished product is beautiful and we are very happy with it. Shawn and everyone else involved was professional and responsive. We are just completing a major project with Grant & Power. We asked them to replace a retaining wall, add drainage/drain tiles, build two patios, and resurface our front stoop, front walk and driveway. From our design plan with Jan, to the execution supervised by Tyler and performed by the crew, we have been happy every step of the way. We contracted Grant & Power Landscaping to maintain my Aunt & Uncle's property.They have a huge backyard & average size front yard. Along with snow removal- too much for any of us to take on as an extra project. Their house is by far the best looking home (landscape wise) in the area- & has been for years. My Aunt get's tons of compliments-especially the mailman!. During the horrific storms this summer in Dupage, Grant & Power was quick to remove even a neighboring tree that had fallen. Grant & Power won by a mile. Competitive pricing is an obvious consideration but it was much more than a good bid that gave G&P an edge. The design was unique and creative, it also reflected what we'd expressed that we're looking for in the space. This might seem like a no brainer, but when you have all the designs side by side it was clear that G&P was actually listening. There are not enough good words to say about this company. As a social studies department chair in Dupage (first at NNHS and now at DGN), I have worked with Grant & Power on two separate Memorial Peace Garden projects designed to create outdoor garden spaces. The intention is to honor the lives of alumni killed in service to our Country and to provide an educational space to remind current students to work toward peaceful solutions. In both of these enormous projects, Grant & Power Landscaping took on our Gardens and DONATED their amazing design team and labor. They worked on their side to secure material donations for all our stonework and plantings. In the two projects they did for Naperville North High School and for Downers North and Downers South High Schools, they easily donated over $100,000 in labor and materials. Each year the company works to give back and does philanthropic work that changes lives. How many companies do that with such generosity with nothing expected in return? They understood the vision and worked collaboratively to create Gardens that were meant to not only be seen, but experienced. The messages of honoring our Veterans and working toward peace in our world come through in every single part of what they created. In addition to donating their work to our schools, every phone call was returned immediately. All communications were collaborative and professional. The crews that worked for weeks at both high schools were efficient, kind, safe, and extremely dedicated. They took immense pride in their work. They did all of this with no fanfare, completing every single deadline on time during their busiest time of year. I have worked in education for over twenty-five years, and the work we did with Grant and Power Landscaping was the most rewarding thing I have ever been a part of as an educator. Today, outdoor spaces that were neglected and abused are now sanctuaries. Students, educators and community members all use these spaces regularly both to teach, to honor those lost, or to enjoy the outdoors and a quiet moment with a friend. We've had Grant & Power design and install landscaping for both our front and back yards. They've come out to discuss the landscaping design, have drawn up a color plan and computer simulations to illustrate how the finished product will look and have adjusted the design according to our needs. Their work crews are always courteous and efficient. We've always been very pleased with the result. Most importantly, they have come out to replace plants or repair paving or brick work, sometimes years after it was installed, without any problem. I am disappointed with the work ethic of this company. We had our hard scape redone (front walk, side walkway to backyard and backyard walkway with stone and bluestone elements). We also had quite a bit of new perennial plantings put in. Upon our initial consultation with our "expert" Sean, we were sold based on his design as well as his knowledge. Our investment exceeded $35,000. We live in a nice neighborhood with great potential to sell had our satisfaction and their actual work been impressive. Throughout the better part of the spring and early summer we have had compliments on the hard scape, but a lot of puzzled faces with the plantings. I must say, be advised that "12" inch plantings doesn't necessarily mean you will have any foliage above ground. Many of the plantings were not even visible, referred to as "root" plantings. We were not told this at our consultations even though I stressed that I was not a green thumb and not very knowledgable in the gardening arena. I felt a bit bamboozled because in retrospect Sean didn't spend much time at all with me discussing the plantings and weather I liked the chosen perennials. When I did disagree with some he said he would be back in the spring to go over it, which never happened. Aesthetically the plantings look pretty good 2 years later, but the first two seasons, I really felt like we were living in a new construction because the foliage was so small. In the future I would put more money into some more mature plantings (or question the absurd cost of root plantings). On a final note, I didn't feel like the customer service side of this project was very strong or complimentary. It needs work. I believe this says a lot about a company. No one was particularly interested in being proactive and friendly in the dealings. I am really a stickler about that, and I was not impressed. read more

I have a large yard with mature landscaping in place for a new home I bought. I contracted to have bed weeding, mulch and lawn fertilizing treatments for the entire season. I prepaid to gain an additional discount. That could have well been my biggest mistake. Although getting paid thousands in advance, their first visit to weed wasn't until the end of may. I believe it would have been longer had I not called the owner- who by the way didn't call me back, but did send people that day to work for about 3 hours. Because they waited so long, that service visit (over 3 days) took much longer then estimated- with me responsible for the extra time it took. Also, the plans for what I wanted- which included removing the black landscaping fabric in certain areas before mulching as it was coming up anyway- wasn't done. Movement of a couple of bushes and planting of a couple of new ones was not done either. This happened for EVERY visit- they waited too long, and it was no longer maintenance, but as if it were their first visit of the season. I did my own lawn cutting and trimming. That included keeping the bed edging clean. Yet they waisted time each visit edging the beds- taking it further out each time- by the end of the season- there was about a 4-6" difference from where they started at the beginning of the season. At that rate, I would have no lawn in a few years in the front of my house. Although a rough summer for lawns due to lack of rain, weeds on my lawn were still very plentiful. So I wouldn't recommend that service either. On top of the thousands I paid up front based on their estimate which I actually rounded up to allow for a couple of hundred dollars for buffer, they billed me another $1000. Needless to say I will not use them again. read more
