Such an amazing experience here! I was searching for a pretty hard-to-find record for my boyfriend's birthday, and when I called, they not only confirmed they had it -- they actually held the record for me until I could come pick it up. That meant so much and seriously took the stress out of trying to track it down. When I came in, the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. You can tell they genuinely care about music and about making sure customers leave happy. They made the whole experience feel personal instead of just another transaction. Call before you go. They regularly do not open on time. I have arrived several times 30-40 minutes after their posted opening time and no one is there. Every now and then, fine, but it happens all the time here. It's disrespectful to their customers, who may travel to come to the store, just to sit there for no one to show up. read more

A wide range of music types. It is extremely well curated and cared for. Mostly organized in a A-Z filing system. They also have a section of original R&B singles with King and Specialty labels. King is cool cuz it's from down in Cincinnati. There's a section of CDs that are in those tall packaging to avoid theft. I haven't see those in years! . read more

Visited Cleveland for the first time last Fall, and had to check this place out. So glad we did! They have a great selection including a good amount of Metal and Punk. The thing I was most impressed with was their selection of PNW bands. They carried a lot of smaller bands I thought were unknown outside the area. As a former Seattleite that worked at a record store and played in bands, it was nice to see them in a record store thousands of miles away. read more

This is an absolutely incredible record store. I travel a lot and always try to stop in record shops wherever I go and wow! Now, this does cater more towards metal/punk/rock (although absolutely not limited to it) so if that's your taste you will be impressed. Pricing ranges from fair to "I can't believe it's this low". We live in a discogs world where everyone wants to charge an arm and a leg so it's nice to see someone out there being reasonable. The owner is a great guy. This is a 5 star review but I do have one suggestion. As far as I could tell, all genres were mixed together alphabetically. As someone who runs to the metal section (and knowing this place had a lot of metal) first it was a little frustrating to know I had to go through the entire store to find any gems - by the end I was glancing over certain shelves due to time - who knows what I missed /how much more I would have spent. Minor suggestion but one I think would be super helpful. Give this place try if you are in/visiting Cleveland- it's fantastic and you won't regret it. read more

My Mind's Eye was one of the targeted shops I identified in advance of our trip to Cleveland. Another solid, solid shop. Definitely worth the stop! Their store was a little dark (we went during the daytime), but the selection was well worth digging through. Their setup is a touch confusing as they do not mix new LP's with used ones. Their new arrivals (used) bin is found at the front left of the store upon entering. Saw lots of really good titles at good prices. Going deeper and digging elsewhere in the store, there were some significant items I'd never seen in public before (some expensive records were locked up, others found in a bin by the counter), so high marks for those! I did find their selection during my visit to be a touch light on hip-hop/soul. Other reviewers noted it is more of a punk/metal/rock store, so it makes sense. Pricing was solid. Nothing seemed to out of the ordinary, price-wise. Parking was pretty easy to find. Metered, if I remember correctly. Definitely worth the stop. I'd recommend checking them out for a well-spend dig if your travels take you to Cleveland. Cheers! read more

I get there is still Covid but it's loosened up a lot now. I will never go here again. I am vinyl collector and would of given them some great business. This place has a large selection of LP's and 7" records in one room and a room full of CD's in the other. "Awesome!" I thought to myself upon entering the cool corner shop in Lakewood. Then, as I listened to the music playing while flipping through the "new arrivals" display, I started thinking about how weird it was to be listening to jazz while flipping through a selection heavily filled with punk and metal records. Then I noticed the old man behind the counter. Now, an old man who is the only person working at the store isn't automatically a bad thing, but it can't help. The old man is unlikely to be able to make suggestions to a young whippersnapper like myself. I like to ask for recommendations when I shop records. That's half the fun! For the same reasons, this old man is unlikely to stock the kinds of records I am looking for. Now, I'm not sure if this old man stocked aforementioned punk and metal records, but he followed me around the shop looking over my shoulder the whole time I was in there. Literally. He even had a little chair that he picked up and moved with him when I moved to look at a different rack. WTF old man? I'm not a high school kid. I'm a 23 year old law student! I wasn't carrying a backpack and I promise I didn't look that shifty. Anyways, minus one star for the creepy-ass old man and minus one star for a combination of the relatively high prices, inconvenient location (despite some cool things there, I'm still just not a fan of Lakewood) and a selection that didn't ring my bell (I'm more of an indie/rock kid). The selection really is good, and if you're a metal or punk fan this may be the place for you. However, I think that for my time and money I'll stick to the east side and Music Saves and avoid the creepy distrustful old man. read more

If you're looking for used records, don't bother. 95% of their inventory are all new records. Knowing that going in is worthwhile information. The most important thing to know about shopping here is that the checkout process is PAINFULLY slow. I purchased (2) new LP's and (2) $3 used LP's. Before ringing your total, they hand write everything about the record on a spreadsheet, including the catalog numbers! It took me at least 15 minutes to pay $50. Why cares about a $3 used record that they probably payed $1 for? They're sophisticated enough to have apple checkout so one would think that they could access the capabilities of scanning new vinyl barcodes. read more

How do you give seven stars on here? Haven't been here since they moved from Madison to Detroit. Finally went a couple weeks back. The new space is tits! I love it! Same great selection, same great vibe, same great owner. While I spent the bulk of my 20's in the old space(thereby endearing it to me), I can see the new store continuing the proud tradition of face melting Cleveland rock well into my 40's. I went at around 7 or 8 pm on a Sunday. Tell me what other retail outlet keeps some bitchin hours. For 20 bones I brought home a pile of vinyl that I could hardly wait, suffering through BK and the Walking Dead, to play in the basement. It was old school Lakewood living for me. Like back in 07 or 08, before I found Yelp, started hanging out with new friends and became an online menace. It was just the records and me. A place that can reignite a lost passion is truly a godsend. read more

Was visiting Cleveland and this was the only proper brick & mortar store in town that sells new vinyl. The shop is a bit cluttered (had to lean over some boxes on the floor to reach a bin of used records), but it's kind of endearing. I've also never seen another store like this that has multiple genres of new vinyl mixed in together instead of in separate sections. You can search for your Strokes, Run The Jewels, and Miles Davis LPs all in one sweep, without having to go find a different row. I found a lot of goodies I was searching for, and the prices were super competitive compared to other places, including online. read more

Probably the most underappreciated record store in the country, and I don't say that lightly. Sure, everyone knows Amoeba, Kims, Princeton, etc, and for good reason...they are great stores. Largely overrated, yet still great (well PREX is not overrated anyway). But this place deserves to be mentioned right along with them. And is in no way overrated. For reals. For starters, I don't know if they are ever really closed. Christmas? Open. New Years Day? Open. Blizzard? Open. They won't always answer the phone, but just show up and chances are somebody will be there. Charles, the main brain in charge, rules. If you have a free hour or six just walk up to him and say "Black Sabbath", and then enjoy the ride. Dude is the real deal...knows more than you but isn't a dick about it. While the store inventory leans more towards rock/metal/punk, I've found some great jazz and classical vinyl in the bins as well. You'll also find new releases/reissues, plus a second room of CD's. Yea, the place is small compared to the well-known giants, but thats what I like about it. I leave feeling like I found what I wanted and didn't miss anything. Prices are very reasonable, no uber-snob markup. If you are an underground metal fan, this will be your god. No matter how kvlt, they have it. I suppose this place is a spiritual cousin to Aquarius Records in San Francisco...while they have all the psych and wacky stuff by the Bay, this place has all the loud and loco stuff by the Lake. Both are small shops run by cool people, though at My Mind's Eye you won't see reviews typed up and taped to albums...you simply hold it aloft and he will tell you everything about it. On the list of things I will miss about Cleveland, My Mind's Eye is atop the list. Totally unique, can neither be imitated nor duplicated. Its worth a trip to Cleveland on its own...its the REAL Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame. One billion stars. read more

Stopped in specifically trying to find some old Journey LP's, no luck, but had a great time browsing through the rest of the collection even though we didn't buy anything. This would definitely be a great place for a collector to come as it looks like their stock changes frequently. When we were there, there were at least 6 boxes of LP's sitting at the front door that needed to be unpacked, probably some little old granny brought in her son's collection, man will he be pissed when he discovers it missing ;o) Giving them 4 stars because the guy behind the counter didn't know who Journey was....c'mon, really?? The guys at the counter were really nice and friendly to me even though I just browsed for an hour and didn't buy anything. Their selection is mostly vinyl and especially rock and metal; as the other reviews attest, there's great selection of that. However, I'm rating them 3 stars due to their limited selection of what I was looking for, hip-hop and trip-hop. On the plus side, there's very little to no promo/BMG CDs [mostly a good thing] and no pop. There's also some used CDs, all priced at $3-4 or more. read more

I am so happy to have found this store. First things first, yes they are appointment only right now which is a 30 minute window to find what you need betw 3 rows of great records. They make you sanitize your hands and wear a mask upon entry which is wonderful. I have seen so many records here that I just had to pick up that I would never have imagined to find and own in a store around here. Not only that, the guy ordered 2 records for me - audioslave's 1st record and SRV Sky is Crying and they were in my hands within a week. The guy is very nice and helpful, the music selection for the shoppers to shop to is absolutely wild sometimes lol, I can't think of a bad thing about this place, obviously just set an appointment and move with purpose around the store and you will find some winners and be off on your way to some good music listening. Hands-down, the best vinyl shop in all of the Cleveland area for anything underground, rock, punk, hard-core, metal, or Indy related. Prices are super fair and the owner is very knowledgeable and seems very interested in getting in whatever your musical heart desires. I grew up on 80s and 90s hard-core punk and metal and 90s Scandinavian death metal but also have an appreciation for contemporary Indy and electronic music- so I was extremely pleasantly surprised about the variety of records that the store carried for extremely reasonable prices. Looks like a great selection for metal and punk CDs, too, but I have to admit I didn't have much interest ;') There's a used vinyl section, too, but either it was REALLY picked over when I got there or its not a priority. I have only been here twice but I have really liked what I have seen so far. I keep reading reviews that this is a diehard metal store but I have seen plenty of music that is not metal. I can't speak for their vinyl collection since I don't collect vinyl but their CD selection is good if you're looking for rock. It's highly unlikely you will find anything else here (I found two jazz CDs in the bargain bin). The staff seems pretty friendly and they let you browse and browse to your heart's content. One guy complemented my choices which I found pretty surprising, but welcomed it and kinda wish I took the time to speak with him at length. I am not a big metal fan but one day if I am looking for some metal, I'll give this place another visit and just go up and ask what's good. I have a feeling they will appreciate the opportunity to give their spiel. Also - don't overlook that bargain CD bin. They have great finds there - plenty of big name acts for real cheap, not necessarily mainstream but big names for the casual and serious music fan. read more

Always an enjoyable browse for collectible vinyl records! Although I no longer live in their neighborhood, I occasionally stop in for some vinyl gems, and I always leave with a bag full of new "oldies". More recent vinyl records and CDs can be ordered if they aren't in stock. There are always newly added Originals in many music directions. The shop is a labor of love, and I'm sure many regular vinyl lovers will keep it going for a long time. I certainly hope so! read more

I spoke to someone on Thursday who told me a particular RSD title would be in either Thursday or Friday, and asked me to call back after 5:00 pm on Thursday. I called, it didn't come in, said it would be there Friday. I explained my work hours, he committed to holding the item until Sunday. I show up Saturday night with my daughter (who it was for) and I ask about the item. The guy looks at me with a straight face, tells me they are gone, sold out. I then reminded him he was suppose to hold one for me, he took my name and number, suddenly he finds one that is on hold for someone else but will give it to me since we drove almost an hour to get it. Then he lays it on me, he wants 3 times what the retail of the item is! It is a new record that just came out, but he wants what "market' is on the item. So I can either fork it over or disappoint my daughter. Unethical and Unscrupulous. Never again will I walk into that record store, he had the opportunity to make a customer for life, instead he wanted a quick, extra dollar. Never Again. read more

To those not in the know, the old man who sits behind the counter sometimes is the owner's father. He is a nice guy and speaks French and Arabic. His background is not about American culture. The owner is one of the most knowledgeable persons imaginable on Rock music, and has a healthy appreciation of free jazz. read more
