I have walked past this shop a million times in Gordon District and had no idea that it was there. On this particular day I happened to be aware of my surroundings and noticed it. I walked in and dove into the collection. It was neat and well organized which is perfect if you are flipping through quickly or if you have a specific artist in mind. I always start with the letter J. I am looking for Michael Jackson records first. I surprisingly found the Got to Be there album for a reasonable price. Don't go looking for it because I bought it expeditiously. I also found the Lean on Me soundtrack, Earth Wind & Fire, Boys 2 Men, Isley Brothers, Notorious B.I.G., Snoop Dog and Dolly Parton to name a few. This is the first time I've ever posted a review on Yelp, but I just have to do it. I've had a turntable for going on two years now, and I've been aggressively seeking out great vinyl to populate my collection. Every time I stop in on a city, I make a run at what I'm reading are its best record stores: New York, Chicago, Columbus OH, Philadelphia, Amsterdam, Paris, Rome, London, St. Pete FL, the legendary Princeton Record Exchange. I live in the Boston suburbs, and there are some pretty terrific stores here, too. Hausfrau is far and away my favorite place to shop. I fly into the CLE two, three times a year to see my beloved Guardians, and my first stop each time is at Hausfrau. Now it might be that it's just a matter of taste and I love what he's selling, but Steve has the best selection I've ever seen. Psych rock, punk rock, post-punk, Krautrock (!!), synth-rock ... it's all here. It can't be happenstance that the guy carries vintage early pressings of the three best OMD albums: that's the result of careful curation and exquisite taste. Don't change a thing, Steve. Quite a little gem of a vinyl shop. All genres, new & used, are all organized alphabetically in the bins, making for a fun mish mash of record digging joy. I found a couple "grails" there and they were reasonably priced. Definitely will go back here again next time I'm in the Cleveland area. read more

Super interesting little record shop in Detroit Shoreway. I'm not even sure how to describe their collection of inventory. It's a blend of underground stuff, retro, world music, hip hop, and rare 80s and 90s releases. You're probably not going to find too many new alternative releases, but it's this way by design. This place is intentionally small, with a focal point being the listening station within the store. Its not terribly often you can actually listen to something before you purchase it, and I love the "please touching everything" vibe the store has. If you're an urban adventurer or even just someone who likes to discover record shops in new cities, you must stop here. This is certainly the record store to hit for that one vinyl you can't seem to find anywhere else, or if you just feel like looking through some crazy selections. They also have a hugeee crate of bargain used vinyls which you could spend an hour sifting through. Didn't come in here looking for anything in particular, but of course they got me. Hausfrau is the kind of place that makes it easy to buy records. The shop has an awesome selection! The prices are good. The place is a really cool size with great LP racks that are very easy to look through and see virtually all the albums. Best of all the owner knows his music and he can always record an artist or album that I am completely unfamiliar with and i know that I can take it home w/o any hesitation and it is always solid. The Dub selection is really strong and World Music is unique and different. Saturday, I picked up two great LP's both were recommended by the owner and I was very pleased.Fred Locks's Black Star Liner-dub and Mdou Moctar's Afelan! Cool local record shop, great selection of Dub, Reggae. Only records here, no CDs, cassette tapes, 8tracks, MP3 downloads. None of that shit, Vinyl ONLY!!! It's very important we keep record shops open, it's to date the crispest clearest music you can listen to. Can't beat old, original shit man, just can't do it. So, if you're into Reggae and have a record player, you have to come here. The only thing about this place that isn't absolutely amazing is that it's a bit pricey. Not necessarily unfairly, but pricey nonetheless. That's the bad, and with that out of the way, I can say, this is a great place. It's the microbrewery of record shops. It doesn't have a massive selection, but the selection is not only better, but almost handcrafted. I can't be certain, but it's the kind of place that feels as if the owner has listened to every album in the shop and has selected it to be there on some sort of merit. In that, it feels less of a record shop and more of a personal record collection that happens to be for sale. I live out of state and only found out about this place right before I moved, so I've only been able to go to the shop twice. Each time, I walked out happy. The first with a count basie album labeled "great shit" on a sticker, and the second time, with a Kraftwerk album. The Kraftwerk album was in a little bit of bad shape and the guy behind the counter worked with me a bit on price which was awesome. Unlike the travesty that is record revolution in Coventry, this isn't a bullshit shop that's trying to sell the image of nostalgia through records, but rather it's a place that wants to sell you the record you want. And to top it all off, they have a listening station so you can try out your selection before you leave the store. Great store, great customer service, awesome dude behind the counter. read more

Came away with wish list items that I've been searching for months and at below Discog prices! My new favorite store in Believeland - For those boomer expats, I even found an incredibly rare locally produced album from the band I used to listen to back in the early 80s at the Bank and Filthy's. read more

This place is TINY. But believe it or else, I have been in smaller ones. Very nice selection, not too many commons. Cool clerk, cool location. Low low prices. They give out Facebook updates of stuff they get in from time to time which is what prompted me to go in the first place. If I was just starting out in this hobby, this would be a goldmine. I, having been collecting some 20 years now, am really hard to impress or surprise. But a young cat could make this a good starting point much like I did with Platterpuss back in the 90's. He pretty much only has good stuff so, you don't have to weed through a bunch of crap Emerson Lake & Palmer and their ilk. This is the best place to find a record that you have never heard of, but then come to find out you can't live without. The owner will let you listen to most things before you buy them and is great at making suggestions. He also seems to get his hands on copies of reasonably priced, sometimes somewhat more standard albums, that you have been avoiding buying online/ not finding in real life, for years. Store advertizes as being open until 8pm. Drove all the way there to shop, arrived at 7:45, and the store was dark and closed despite the sign on the door indicating they are open until 8pm. Evidently they just close whenever they feel like it without any consideration for customers who follow their posted hours. A terrible business practice.
