The train ride itself is a good slow ride and you hope you sit with another great couple for conversations. I think riding on the murder mystery ride would be great fun. Did get to see Jesse James safe house and trestle that still remained from the civil war. It's a nice slow ride but go for the mystery and murder for some real enjoyment. My husband and I decided to take a road trip out to Bardstown to ride My Old Kentucky Dinner train and see the fall leaves. Our food was very good. We had the salads, Hot Brown and Chocolate Choo Choo for Two. The waiters were very professional and nice. We sat across from a couple who were my parents' age and they were very interesting and had lived in a lot of states, so we heard many stories. We had a nice conversation. I have been wanting to try this for awhile now. I had a great time! I really have nothing bad to say about the experience. The train was beautiful, the staff was great, my food was good, the desert was rich, loved the classy music. The price was fair: comes down to about $50-60 for a four-course meal and $30-40 for the train ride. When you think about it, that's really not bad! I read many of the reviews before going on the trip. Some of the comments are just petty and childish. The view was not that bad! Have you been to KY? Geez! Did you expect them to buy the land on the route just to make it pretty for you? People should probably read the website before going on the trip to really understand what they will experience. There is a FAQ section that covers a lot of topics, then you don't make yourself look silly putting dumb comments on Yelp after the fact. It's a unique experience! Just do it one time! read more

We have take a lot of train rides so if your going for the train ride Don't go but if your going for a dinner, its ok.. Is it worth 60-80.00, absolutely not! They do give you a card with the landmarks you will see on the ride, only problem is you don't know what side of train their on and they do not announce that you are coming up to them. Also at the very end of the ride where the train stops to return back to station, the last attraction was blocked by empty train cars. When they told us that was the last attraction and we were heading back, it would of been nice to see it. .Our tickets were given as a gift but we would have been greatly disappointed if we had paid this much for this ride. read more

The train ride was nice and the food was good, but it wasn't spectacular and, in my opinion, not worth the price. The wait staff was helpful and nice and the train was clean. There weren't many great views- there was a lot of residential area we went through. We did go past a distillery and through the trees of Bernheim Forrest. This was an okay experience. The price is a bit ridiculous at $180 for two people. The food was good but not five star quality for the price your paying. If you would like an appetizer it's extra as is all alcoholic beverages. If you and your spouse want a romantic evening forget it. You are seated at table for four so you will be eating with perfect strangers unless you and some friends book together. If you would like a private table you can buy the two other seats at your table but I thought paying $360 was totally unrealistic. Yes you do get a train ride, but the scenery was limited to forest, distillery warehouses, & homes. The staff was outstanding. They were all very friendly, professional, and worked extremely hard to serve all the guests. I'm glad I made the journey but I would not do it again. read more

I recently took my 89 year old mother on the Murder Mystery train ride as an early birthday present. All in all it was a fun experience but..... it is not set up for handicapped or disabled people at all... the ramp was nowhere near where the actual crossing spots are on the train tracks and there is no place to let someone out of a car to make access easier for them. My mother loves theater and helped start a local theater group in Mt.Sterling, KY many years ago, so I knew this was something she would enjoy and she wouldn't have to move once we were on board. I had hoped this would have been a little easier to manage. She needed to use the restroom and after getting her up the steps - by asking 2 strong men to help her up the steps since the ramp was far too far away for her to manage in the pouring rain - we found that the restroom was back down a set of steps... we were told we could go onto the train to use the restroom there... but the hallways were too narrow for her walker to fit - so she had to use it sideways. The actual toilet was not handicap accessible - but she was able to use it. We finally got to our seat at last. The wait person Kim was wonderful and did all she could for us. The play was short and could be heard if the actors were near you but if they were at the other end of the train it was more difficult to hear them. The food was excellent. The actual scenery was the same coming and going. The train stops and just goes backwards so you have the same scenery coming and going. The trees and meandering stream were gorgeous, but the old tires and garbage were not. I think that maybe a local judge should sentence cleaning the tracks as a way to fulfill community service hours.. I'm from KY but lived in Switzerland for 21 years so seeing old tires and styrofoam cups and garbage is not my idea of scenic views.... As I said before our wait person Kim was great. I think that asking for us to pay a tip to her for the cost of the whole price is unfair... she is not the train ride or the theater.. she served us dinner and took good care of us. I feel this practice hurts the servers more than helps them and should be changed. I left $30.00 but was informed on my check that I should leave $50.00. I truly doubt that most people who are paying with a credit card leave that much.. I left cash and she seemed happy with it. read more

The new menu is delicious and every time we ride, it is a great experience. The scenery of the bourbon distilleries and horse farms is gorgeous. I have taken the dinner train three times.The first time was with my husband in the fall. I loved it and the scenery was beautiful. The second time was with my granddaughter for her birthday in June.I agree with B Kuuipo, there isn't much scenery in June. The third time was with a grandson for his birthday. This was in December and the scenery was beautiful with the snow in the trees and everywhere. It was a unique experience for both of them, and they both enjoyed it very much. I gave it 5 stars because if you go to see the fall trees or the snow it is definitely a 5 star experience. read more

Exceptional service! Worth every penny! My husband and I planned our trip about a month in advance. Our soup/salad was already on our table when we loaded the train which was awesome bc we all have tendencies of becoming hangry when you have to wait on food. The potato soup was delicious. We ordered the beef roast- the portion is large, I ended up taking my leftovers home. The roast was so good and you could literally cut it with a fork it was that tender. They also serve coffee and alcoholic beverages. I highly recommend this attraction. read more

This was my first trip on this particular train, having ridden on the last R J Corman train out of Lexington, KY before it was discontinued. Since the Bardstown trip is centered in Bourbon distillery country, I should have expected the tavern/bar atmosphere but was not prepared to be seated next to a table in such a LOUD celebratory manner. The loud table(s) arrived drunk, 2 more full trays of alcohol were served, followed by 3 more bottles. Each train whistle was echoed by the table members. Crude language ensued, with peals of screams and laughter. I exited the 2 and 1/2 hour trip with a headache. The service and food for our group of 4 was good. However, the bartender per any decent policy should have limited alcohol service in this arena for the sake of those who had to endure. One participant did suggest early on that "maybe we shouldn't drink anymore", but then all her comrades constantly shouted, "PARTY POOPER, Party Pooper", over and over for 2 full minutes. I rarely step up to complain at such, but this was extraordinarily noteworthy of report. read more

One more thing off my bucket list! I had been really looking forward to this for years! I went with three friends on the lunch ride and we had the best time! The train was beautiful and so clean with plenty of room to move about and enjoy the ride. The food was so delicious and very filling. Service was superb - never a dirty dish or an empty glass on the table. And the servers were so friendly and efficient; they really contributed to the train ride. Thank you, Erica! A wonderful way to experience how people used to travel during the height of the rail era. The cars are decorated beautifully, you can see pictures on their website. The food is amazing, though to be honest it is not to everyone's taste. Some may find the scenery boring, but it was nice to sit down for a meal where you're not rushed to finish so they can refill the table. You get 2.5 hours to enjoy your meal and talk to your friends. If you book for two, you might get seated with another couple. I say, just another chance to make new friends. A definite must do in Bardstown. read more

Went on the regular lunch ride and with tax it was around $148 for two adults. Pros: 1. Our waitress Ashley was super nice. 2. The train was set up cute. 3. The roast beef was good and tender. 4. The chocolate cake was was really good and creamy. 5. Go in a group of 4 for u can sit at a table together, unless u wanna gamble who u sit with since the table is set up for four. We enjoyed the strangers we sat with, but it would of been better to sit with friends/family we knew. 6. The train has a better speed going back to the station. 7. Non alcohol drinks r included in price. Cons: 1. Pricey, but I'm sure it's not cheap to run a train restaurant 2. The speed of the train leaving is really slow. 3. Don't go if u r really wanting to enjoy scenery. All the trees cover the scenery and theres not much to see. People Around Me: the roast beef and apple dumpling seem to be very popular order. And everyone seemed to enjoy the food. People complained about trees covering scenery. Conclusion: don't go for the scenery. Go for a different restaurant experience. Something to try once, to take an older relative, or young group of friends wanting to do something different & have drinks. I took it as a nice different restaurant experience and not a scenery experience, so I ended up enjoying myself. I took dad for Father's Day.
