From the moment we walked in, we felt genuinely welcomed. Nikki greeted us, took the time to explain their wines and tasting options, and made us feel right at home. A little while later, the owner, who is also named Nikki, came over to introduce herself. Both of these ladies were incredibly kind, down-to-earth, and passionate about what they do. What was supposed to be a quick stop turned into two wonderful hours of conversation, laughter, and wine tasting. I've visited quite a few wineries over the years, but this one truly stood out. I loved how unique and creative the wines were. They weren't afraid to offer something different, with wines like Corn Cob, Daylily, and Rose Petal Tea. I know some of those might sound unusual, but they're absolutely worth trying with an open mind. My personal favorite was the Blackberry Truffle--it was unlike anything I've ever tasted and, without question, the bottle I couldn't leave without. One thing I also appreciated was that they had beer available for anyone in the group who isn't a wine drinker, making it a place everyone can enjoy. More than anything, what made this visit so memorable wasn't just the wine--it was the people. You can tell there's a lot of heart behind this winery, and that kind of hospitality is something you don't forget. If you ever find yourself in Bardstown, I can't recommend McIntyre & Family Winery enough. It ended up being one of the highlights of our trip, and I already know we'll be back.

All of their wines are made from the berries, fruit, etc that they are named after and not with grapes, so it is always fun to try the different wines they offer. We brought our friends with us this time since we were all on our way to Heaven Hill for a distillery tour together. They had a fun time for their first visit and we both ended up purchasing a bottle of their corn cob wine (we also got a semi-sweet cranberry wine). Shannon (or maybe her name was Sharon) was so friendly and kept us laughing with jokes during our tasting. She gave us some tips on what wines paired well together or with a cocktail. She also told us how long some of the wines take to make, where they source some of their berries, etc. Can't wait until our next visit!

Tours are tons of fun, and extensive. If you've completed your Ambassadorship, save your card and registration number - tours are free! I've been visiting since 2007 and its been impressive to see the expansion, most notably the addition of the massive visitor's center, the Chihuly hallway in the rickhouse leading to the gift shop, and the limestone cellar for aging Maker's 42. The gift shop has great swag, sells some distillery-only bottlings, and provides an option for you to dip your own bottle in hot wax. Everyone should do that at least once - we did when we picked up our bottles from our Ambassador Barrel. Fully wheelchair accessible, and there is a shuttle that will take you from the visitor center to the start of the tour. And you want to take that shuttle - its a very steep hill and a long walk. A note on getting there - every road to the distillery is a back road, so heed the directions on the website. Avoid single lane roads that veer into hollows. Take 49 south from Bardstown, then go east on 52. Hang a left at the sign.

They were lovely people and based on my recent visit, sold to lovely people. Onto the wines - I believe it was $8 for 6 wines. I had a hard time narrowing down their choices to just 6 as everything sounded so good. The Vidal blanc was the first wine the new owners had completed from start to finish and it was absolutely lovely. They had a delicious selection of dry reds as well. The Kentucky roots was my favorite in this section. The cab was smooth as well. We ended up sitting on their patio and had several bottles of the summer nights. We all had a hard time picking out wines to take home. Needless to say, we will be coming back as the future seems bright for this family and the winery.

We decided to try Prodigy because it was the first one we say on the road sign and it was open (a lot of places were closed due to the snow). The property is beautiful. It's very spacious and has a very nice view of an open field. We were also greeted by the sweetest cats. One walked right up to us when we got out of the car and immediately wanted to be petted. We were greeted at the tasting room by more affectionate cats and dogs! The tasting room has a bunch of decorated shelves with the bottles ready for purchase and a lot of horse themed items. We decided to go a tasting which comes with 6 different wines. The presentation was my favorite part because each wine was in a different beaker. We enjoyed the wine. My husband loved the blueberry wine so much, he bought a bottle right on the spot. We absolutely loved Prodigy and hope to come back soon.

We each got 6 samples for free. The Apple Verde was AMAZING! We ended up sitting around the fire pit with a bottle to split. The gentleman who did our tasting was the wine maker and you could tell the pride he took in his product. I loved that almost all of the grapes for the wine were grown on the property. Their wines are also sold at Total Wine for my Louisville friends. They host monthly events starting in April. We are already talking about staying in bowling green for a weekend to enjoy some live music at the winery.
