I recently introduced some friends to this place and they're already planning to go back. We ordered mostly from their Combo menu - 6 dishes for only $77.50, including soup and rice. MY restaurant has been on my radar for a while now and I finally!!! had a chance to visit for a weekday lunch. I should have read the reviews a little more carefully as it took a while to find parking. We were disappointed that they had NO HAKKA items on their lunch menu, so we ordered beef ho fun, stir fried green bean with black bean sauce with chicken, and sweet and sour pork. The complimentary house soup landed flat for my dining companion who barely finished half of hers, whereas I enjoyed this comforting no-frills soup. The portions are decent and the flavours were mostly good. The sweet and sour pork, unfortunately, was mostly batter and had very little meat. The green beans were crunchy and good, the chicken slices were well-velveted, but the black bean sauce was barely there. The beef ho fun was less oily which we appreciated. The ginormous bowl of white rice felt homey and we barely made a dent. Overall, MY was ok. M & Y Restaurant is a good option for Chinese takeout in Markham. We found that they served a combination of Hakka style and HK style food, very flavourful dishes and decent sized portions. Despite the change of ownership and renovation changes to the dining room, they still offer great tasting food at good prices. Deciding between getting the regular order or ordering from another menu, we decided to switch up the regular order of baked spaghetti bolognese and curry chicken with salt pepper squid and sweet & sour fish. We enjoyed the house soup and the change in choices. Hard to find parking here particularly if your group has anyone with mobility concerns. Super solid HK Cafe restaurant in an unassuming location. It seems that they've converted to a take-out only place. When I went, all the chairs were flipped onto the tables and the cashier was taking my pay in the middle of the restaurant. It's pretty perfect as a take-out only location. They've got a great website, super easy to navigate and bilingual so my English-only spouse can order without issue. They take Visa or cash. Just a note, you input your information on the website but they don't actually charge you. You have to pay at the restaurant when you pick up. The food is reasonably priced and tasty. Good portions as well. And just like most HK Cafes, the menus are a mile long with lots of variety. I quite liked the Egg Plant and Sweet & Sour Pork. The Salt Crisp chicken was a bit dry, but any of the saucy stuff was good. Their combos come with soup and rice. I value convenience and tastiness over anything so I will continue to be a customer. They seem busy enough, since when we went in to pick-up our order, at least two individuals were on the phone taking orders. Our order was ready in a timely manner. The food was pretty good. Take out suggested: I would stick to take out only, as it's small, crowded, noisy and has that needed to be deep cleaned look. Whenever I share with people about this really good Chinese/HK restaurant on Main St Markham, they're boggled b/c it sure is an unexpected place to find one. It's hidden in the backstreets next to a convenience store and laundromat. Due to its location, parking spots are scarce but you can park in the adjacent plaza discretely or street parking. During the pandemic, they offer take-out only (no dine-in). They advertise Thai/Hakka/Chinese food but I mainly come here for the HK food. Their menu is of the 90's, lol meaning ~quite~ extensive. It has pretty much every staple you can think of and want. Don't have it? Ask for it and see if they'll make it for you. Prices and portions are "90's" too, ok maybe 2000's. FOOD 5/5 - Their cooking is hands down perfection. I don't think I've received a single dish from them I wasn't satisfied with. Most recently, I ordered a Baked Tomato Sauce Ox Tongue Rice w/ Cheese for lunch. First of all, not many places offer ox tongue anymore and if they do, not many places make it well. But their's is so good, they make it "fall off the bone" tender. Good ox tongue melts in your mouth like buttery steak. If you haven't tried it before, you should try it here. The tomato sauce (don't laugh, yes the sauce matters to me!) was perfectly sweet, not sour, at just the right viscosity. OH, I almost forgot, my rice came with a soup! Not many places offer soup with lunch combos anymore so when she asked, I was so pleased. Of course, I got HK-style borscht. What can I say? This place is a hidden gem stuck in the past. And I hope they continue to stay [this way]. DRINK 1/5 - The milk tea I ordered as part of my lunch was undrinkable. The lady did not know how to make it. Great local Chinese comfort food, with huge portions and small dollar signs. We ordered the sticky rice fried rice/ salted fish fried rice. Both fried rice were good and really filling, but the salted fish had a strong smell but also pockets of umami. Only concern is that I'm not sure why its called a Thai/Hakka restaurant as MY restaurant seems more like a typical canto restaurant. read more

Okay, so my review may be a little bias because I liked going to Maydoh back in the day. There is just something about the Baked Bolognese & Cheese here that makes it better than other HK style cafes. I haven't been back to Maydoh in years and was not aware that they had sold it and this was the new restaurant they opened ( I was a little slow to the news). So, I definitely had expectations when going to MY Restaurant over the weekend. I used my GPS to get there but it was still kind of hard to find. There is limited parking in the front but additional parking at the back of the building and across the street at the Tim Horton's plaza. It may be a little bigger than Maydoh but it's still a small restaurant and was at full capacity after I sat down (we took the last free table and there was a line up after us). I think it's a family run restaurant and I even recognized the server from Laidoh at Splendid China Tower. Specials include your main course + soup + coffee or milk tea. We tried to order the NY Steak with Black Pepper Sauce but they were sold out of it from the night before. They also didn't have the cream soup. I'm sure this doesn't happen often... but you should always be fully stocked to serve your clients. With restaurants like this, you can expect a ratio of 80% carbs (usually rice or spaghetti). Hence, the big portions. Good if you're bulking! BBQ Pork with Noodles - I didn't try it but the BBQ Pork looked delicious and it was a huge serving, like with everything else. My friend couldn't finish it and had to get it packed. Baked Bolognese & Cheese on Spaghetti - Something about this dish is so nostalgic! It's a LOT of spaghetti but perfect sauce to pasta ratio. By the time I finished eating, it looked like I had barely touched the dish (but I also had to juggle my vegetable soup and milk tea)! I packed it and my boyfriend and I finished it for dinner. It lasted THREE meals! Chicken with Black Pepper Sauce with Spaghetti - A big plate of rice but the chicken was also a decent size. To my surprise, the chicken was tender and actually made quite well. My BF was pretty impressed with the texture too. Our total came to $30, but because we also ordered an extra soup and there was an extra charge for iced milk tea. The rice noodles were alright, portion size was typical (not sure why a number of reviews says portions were generous). The soup, however, was rancid. Called them about it and they acknowledged it by offering a replacement on my next visit. I'm thinking, really, why still serve something that has gone bad to customers?? Reason for Visit: Just discovered this gem. I don't know how I never heard of this place for the longest time. Menu: This place actually has very good prices. Most combos are ~$10 max / person. My goodness. So prices are great to start. So the food came, we got their 2 people combo with curry beef and fried chicken. Portions were huge! I never saw that much meat in a curry dish. I swear half the plate was beef. This is some high value stuff. I will say their curry is spicier than most places, probably cause they are Hakka in origin. The fried popcorn chicken came and again that was huge. I was immediately thinking of how I paid almost the same price other day at Sansotei for a small cup of popcorn chicken. The taste was fantastic! Not too salty, flavorful and super crispy. Service: The waitresses work fast! I am very impressed and they also like to have chats with some repeated customers. As long as you don't mind the old school look, this is a place for all HK style cafe fans. This place is tucked in a small plaza. There would be no way you would know about this place without something like Yelp. Walking in, there are a few seats, but the place is definitely on the small side. There are a couple of booths and a large table in the middle. The seating is definitely tight here. Good thing is turnover is really quick in a place like this so you won't have too wait too long for a table. One of my biggest rants with Chinese businesses is if they lack English on the menu. I'm a firm believer that you should have English menus available no matter what type language is predominantly spoken. My restaurant has English for every single item they sell here. Even the daily specials have English written as well. Prices here are very good for a HK style cafe. You can expect to see prices $1-2 cheaper than others places. We had a baked pasta, bbq pork and duck on rice and a side order of wings and fries. The portions here are very generous for what you pay. Taste wise, the food is on par if not a little better with what you expect for a HK style cafe. It's a quintessential HK style cafe, decent food at a great price. Like I mentioned before, this place is old school. The decor is out of date, some things are held together by duck tape, etc. It's a no frills approach to eateries. If you're used to this kind of thing, it won't bother you at all. Come in with realistic expectations, you will be fine. This is a place that's favoured by the locals. Everyone who came in was a regular. The staff here knew them all and what they wanted. It's got a real homey diner type vibe. We were knew but the staff were very friendly and helpful. They made our kids feel real welcome as well. Overall, I loved this place. It will defeinitely be on my regular rotation eating out. Our bill came out to $29 taxes in. We've been here many times especially during my pregnancy. I was extremely craving for their steak with black pepper sauce during my 3rd trimester. Their lunch / dinner combo comes with a soup and a drink. Love their soup!! You can choose from Hong Kong style Borscht or Cantonese soup. I love both, but their Cantonese soup is homemade with no MSG!! Their baked pork on rice with tomato sauce is also my favourite too!! Their waitresses are nice and caring. Small Chinese restaurant in the Markham East area, with a parking of maybe 7 spots. Walking into the restaurant, it had a very old cha chan tang styled restaurant. The seats aren't super spacious, especially in the winter with your huge jackets, but it will do. We got the baked Portuguese sauce with chicken + rice and the beef ho fun. We didn't have to wait very long for it, before the meals came. What I REALLY appreciated was that the baked Portuguese sauce with chicken and rice came in two different dishes. One plate of a scoop of rice and the other had the Portuguese chicken. In many cha chan tang's that I visit, the rice is embedded in the Portuguese sauce - which makes it tasty, but you get a lot less for the quantity of the meal. The beef ho fun wasn't very oily, and they used fresh ho fun, something you don't see often in many stores. It tasted delicious and was hot and fresh! There's no typical Combo like a toast and ham/sausage/eggs + a soup macaroni. They are all separate items. And idk, the taste was just really bland. We ordered one toast/egg/bacon, one beef/egg sandwich, one preserved veggie/duck vermicelli and one wonton noodles. I didn't really like any of them. But if I must pick one I choose the beef/egg sandwich. I can't believe that a restaurant that makes decent lunch would fail the breakfast... Onto the lunch takeaway, the curry was fine, but of course it'll be so much better if eat at restaurant. I always order their curry beef brisket so good. The other one I ordered was spinach chicken (?? I thought it should be beef; but anyway, can't verify) the rice that came with it was enough to make three lunches... Got this for takeout during the pandemic. The food was still nice & hot when it arrived to the kitchen table, which is always a plus. We got: 1. Black Bean Beef Flat Noodle (the wide one) with Green Pepper: This was sooo yummy. The portions were huge and filing. The sauce was savoury and thick. The only downside is that I wish that gave a little more beef. 2. Bean Sprout Fried Noodle with Soy Sauce: This is your typical little side dish at congee restaurants. However, we got the big option here and it was huge. Noodles were chewy and not too salty. Ultimate comfort food. 3. Eggplant with Tofu: delicious! The tofu was soft (if not super silky) and plenty of eggplant. Must try dish if you like the "bo" (pot) from Chinese restaurants. This is a must try if you're stuck inside. 3.5 Solid spot with classic Hong Kong style food for low prices. They have breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, and dinner specials. Their daily specials actually change everyday and usually come with a soup of the day, a drink, and either rice or spaghetti. Those are usually ~$8-9 and are too much for one person to finish for a lunch/dinner. Their portions are on the bigger side, so 2 meals will probably fill up 3 people. But do keep in mind that the quality of their food usually isn't that stellar - mostly carbs and simple ingredients. It seems to be family-run, all the staff are super attentive, friendly, and helpful even when they're packed and super busy on weekends. So sad that Chef Lin is gone. When my husband and I arrived here hoping get some really good general tao chicken, we noticed the restaurant had changed. We decided to check it out anyway. This place serves a million different dishes, but I figured I might as well try the general tao chicken since I was craving it and some hot and sour soup. My husband ordered the Portuguese style chicken. You get free soup with some of the meals so we got the wintermelon one which was delicious! Since the free soup was so good, I was hoping everything else would be just as impressive. The hot and sour soup was decent. I can't really describe it but all the dishes we tried were kind of bland or wasn't as flavourful as I would like. The Portuguese chicken was just terrible. The sauce was a watered down bland buttery sauce of some sort. It didn't really taste like anything and my husband usually eats whatever he orders and he barely touched it. The general tao chicken was just average as well. It was sweet and pretty sour, but didn't have that kick that I usually like. Been here quite a few times and it has been my go to joint for HK cafe dishes ever since they opened! The dishes are simple but you can tell that they pay attention to every single detail. I have had quite a few for their baked dishes served with rice or spaghetti. The rice is fried nicely and you can taste the deep savoury egg flavour with every bite. The tomato sauce is legit and perfectly fuses with the melted cheese. It does not have that look where you can tell they use a lot of starch to thicken the sauce. I have had the ox tongue, sliced beef as well as their baked porkchop - all of which are quite tasty! Their complimentary soup is always top notch with lots of ingredients put into it. This is me and my boyfriends go to Chinese food restaurant. Food: 5/5- ESPECIALLY the baked bolognese spaghetti. Oh my god. By far the best I've had in Canada. They're portions are big too, and most of the time comes with soup! Every time I go, there's always a crowd. This place is a hidden gem. I've seen them pop up on my yelp search for years, but let's face it, the pictures here all show dishes that look so greasy that I had no interest in trying. When we eventually caved, we stuck with safe choices. Hk-style spaghetti bolognese (which was always considered a meal and came with a drink) and XO beef rice noodle. I wasn't too excited about it back then because they tend to cover their spaghetti bolognese with a plastic lid so by the time it got home, the edge of the plastic melted and detached from the rest of the lid. A big no-no. Then one day, we were told they have a WeChat account and would post daily specials. They'd literally take pictures of their whiteboard where items were scrawled in both Chinese and English. Our new faves? Their baked ox tongue spaghetti in tomato sauce is so good. The ox tongue is perfectly tender, and even our kid who was initially squeamish about eating tongue now requests it. They also have a seafood fried rice steamed in lotus leaf that is fancy restaurant-quality. Can't remember off the top of my head the third item we'd get but everything was so good. Nowadays, they probably wait for everything to cool a little before putting the plastic lid on their baked dishes, so there's no longer melting plastic. Their drinks are also ok. New restaurant just near Markham Main Street. Probably one of the only Chinese restaurants around this area. If you are looking for a HK style cafe, this is the perfect place to be. I'm a big fan of Richmond Court Restaurant and Blue Ocean Cafe (similar style), however M.Y. Restaurant is wayyyy better than them. Best bang for buck and the service is superb, compared to those restaurants. When you enter the restaurant, you'll be welcomed by the enthusiastic and super nice staff. The restaurant is a perfect place for families, but don't expect it to be super fancy. It is a very traditional Chinese restaurant. Recommendation: I ordered the Minced Meat Bolognese with Spaghetti which was recommended by the staff, and I have to say I was super impressed by this. It was simply delicious and they give you tons of meat too. They'll add cheese onto this, which makes it more rich and tasty. This might be their signature dish, so I'll highly recommend this. For those of you who were familiar with the Bur Oak and Kennedy area, there was a restaurant called "May Doh" beside Trudeau high school, then they moved to the Splendid China mall on Steeles and now this location. This place is nothing fancy and in fact is quite rundown with a weird smell right when you walk in. Some flies flying around during the summer due to poor ventilation. There's also very limited parking infront of the restaurant but if you come during dinner hours, most adjacent plazas are closed so you could also park there. However, very decent prices and generous portions. Flavourful and not too oily. They have dinner specials where you choose dish combinations and it comes with rice and soup. If you don't mind the rundown atmosphere and simply want to have some decent Chinese food in the East Markham area, give this place a try. read more

I really wanted to like this place since there aren't many Hong Kong style cafes in the area. This is a small 30 seat diner hidden just off of Markham Rd. No renovations to speak of for a new restaurant. It looks like they just took over from the last owner. Service is considerably slow. We waited at the door for a couple minutes before anyone acknowledged us and pointed us to a seat. Ordering was easy as the menu is limited. I will note that the daily special boards don't match on each wall. Food got here relatively quickly and tasted average. However, we were never served water or tea. The beverages we ordered came after we were halfway through our meal, which is remarkably slow. Iced milk tea was ooookay. I don't think I will be returning any time soon unfortunately. read more

Was around this area and saw some good reviews for this place so I decided to try it out with my boyfriend. Went around 5pm and it was pretty empty. 5pm is a good time to go because they have like a tea time menu (i think it ends at 5:30) but their dinner menu also starts (at 5pm). I was craving noodles in soup but they mostly had fried noodles and rice. I ordered a beef friend spaghetti. It was big portions and the noodles were pretty regular. Some of the beef was very undercooked. My boyfriend ordered a wonton noodle soup which he said was pretty plain. The wontons were pretty regular. This place is pretty regular like any other chinese cafe. I guess the price for the portion its good for people on a budget. read more

My sister bought takeout from this place sometime ago and it tasted really good. The taste of the dishes reminds me of the restaurants in Hong Kong, which made me decide to give this place a shot. There is very limited parking at this place. You'll need to find parking on the main roads or park further away and walk here. Funny as it is, the place is so small that it also reminds me of the restaurants in Hong Kong. Most likely you'll end up sitting beside a stranger sharing a table. Not that I mind. As busy as it is, the service was actually pretty good. The servers gets at least 3-4 calls from the time of delivering food to your table to walking back into the kitchen. They didn't sound annoy at all when they were stopped multiple times. The food tasted excellent, better than takeout. I had the oven baked pork rice with ketchup and cheese. wonderful. My all time favorite hk cafe. They have the best baked dishes for a reasonable price. Food is 5 stars depending on what you order, i would recommend to stick with the general hk cafe dishes: baked spaghetti, pork chop, curry. Tucked away is a great place to have some hk style food. Tried their minced beef spaghetti and it was great. Lots of cheese and sauce.
