If you like spice this is the place for you. Located at the commerce gate complex there is typically a wait to get a table here. Wait list is old school...someone writes your name and number in a notebook and you are called when your table is ready. The interior is reminiscent of the old school taverns you see in those old Chinese movies where the traveller has spent days walking or on a horse and comes upon a tavern where the interior is all wooden tables and benches. Dining style and dishes are all family style. You order a couple of dishes and then add rice. Spice level can be adjusted and even at 'less' the heat level was high. Definitely generous use of Szechwan peppercorns! Food is very flavourful and depending on preference some might find the oil level high. The clientele is mainly Mandarin speaking and if you are Asian they will immediately communicate in Mandarin with you but I did see the staff switch to English where needed. Meaty pork strips coated with thin batter, each piece is wrapped in a glossy sauce and sprinkled with white sesame. Perfect dish to go with rice. Double Cooked Pork Slices: Classic Sichuan-style dish. The pork belly is first boiled, then stir-fried again with chili bean paste and green bell pepper. Very flavorful and savoury, another great dish to go with rice. Soy Sauce Fried Rice: One of my fav childhood dishes, and they delivered very well. It's such a huge portion that we could only finish it in two days. Service was great, considerate and friendly. They even pour water for you before you sit down and pack up the leftovers for you after you finish. You might have to wait if you don't have a reservation, but the turnaround is pretty fast. If you can't do spicy, you can still enjoy this restaurant. There are different spice levels, and even dishes that aren't spicy at all. The sweet and sour pork was a nice surprise. The sauce hit the spot perfectly and not spicy at all. I only wish the pork were more tender. Got the regular spice for everything else: eggplant, cabbage, fried rice with beans. The fries rice and eggplant had a kick but we're acceptable. I would say it would be mild enough for those who have a lower spice tolerance. The cabbage had the most heat of the 4 dishes. It was a satisfying spice and what I expected. For non spice eaters, just avoid the peppers in the dish and you can still enjoy the cabbage. Was told a 30-45 min wait but got seated in about 25 minutes. They provided hair ties for those with long hair, offered an apron to keep clothes clean, and provide fruit flavoured mouth wash upon settling the bill. I've heard of this place for a long time, and finally got to try it out. It's a Sichuan cuisine restaurant offering varieties of numbingly spicy dishes. Expect a line-up after 6pm. Their inner renovation is very interesting. It is mocking ancient Chinese restaurants' renovation style but of course with much newer benches, tables and cashier desk. For the food, my advice is if you can't handle spicyness too well, start with the minimum spicy level here! We ordered fried green beans and deep fried spicy chicken requesting minimum spicy level. The vegetable dish was comparable to mild spicyness at other restaurnts but the chicken was medium spicy compared to other restaurants. Both dishes were super delicious and flavourful! It would have been better if there's more meat than bone for the chicken dish. We finished both dishes and most of yhe rice given how yummy the food was here. The service was also better than many other Chinese restaurants. They would provide you heads-up in when the rice would be served and provide you with mouthwash after dinner. We usually order medium but were warned by the waiter that mild here is similar to medium at other spots. And he was right... I've been searching for a good Sichuan restaurant in Toronto and finally found the one! This place is super authentic and you really can't go wrong with any of the dishes you order. There aren't too many tables so you can expect a long wait time almost every night. They also don't take reservations so you would have to show up in person to leave a name and phone number. The good thing is that you can look at the menu and order beforehand while you wait in line so the food arrives almost immediately after you're seated! I went with my partner and we tried the suan cai yu (Sichuan fish with pickled mustard) and hui guo rou (double-cooked pork). Both had amazing flavour and goes so well with some steamed rice. It can get a little oily after a while but we also ordered a snow-pea leaves soup that balanced out the other dishes. All in all a great spot and worth the wait for some authentic Sichuan food. The service is also quite friendly despite them being very busy. The ambiance is quite lively and loud - there are many large groups and families that dine here. If you like spicy and numbing experience this is the place. The good thing about this place is you can still request the level of spice and numbing to your likings. The food is very oily but very flavorful, must order steamed rice which was cooked to perfection. After each meal they offer you a small mouthwash sasche and was turn off to find the patron on the other table washing her mouth and spitting it out on her bowl. For of us went here for lunch - arriving just before the main lunch rush started. None of us had been here before, and we weren't sure of what we should expect. The menu is extensive, with a number of adventurous choices. And the portions are big - we made the mistake of ordering one dish each - ordering 3 dishes and a rice would have been more than sufficient. The standout dish was the sweet and sour crispy pork strips - a very different take on the usual sweet and sour; followed by the stir fried konjac and sliced beef; and we did have the bullfrog as our fully adventurous option. The fourth dish, stir fried pork and vegetables over crispy rice was amazing presentation but was really ordinary when compared to the flavour and depth of the other three dishes. The spicy fried rice was a great accompaniment, and pleasantly different. The service was very friendly and welcoming. Yesterday i ordered 3 dishes for takeout. The price was over $80 including tax. The deep fried pork was very dry so chewy it was like my second time leftover warmed dishes in airfryer. The spicy chicken was suicidal and hot (temperature) food was in plastic container without any foil lining! And the flavour was not in there. You can eat spicy dishes only if it is tasty. The other was double cooked pork which seems to be okay nothing special to justify the price. It is so disappointing. read more

This place is amazing! The food is spicy but fresh and bright. We came on a busy Sunday early afternoon and it was bustling. We had to wait but got seated faster than anticipated. The staff is friendly and focused, they gave us menus to peruse while we waited. As we looked around we knew we were in for something special. When you see a table of six young friends eating intently and silently and not looking at their phones! you know the food is good here. For a first visit we decided to get some familiar dishes. We had Cumin Lamb, Green Beans with ground pork, and a Stir Fried Pork with Hot peppers and Chives. They asked us how spicy we wanted it and we went for Medium. Which turned out to be a good decision. Each dish came hot out of the kitchen and everything came quickly. The spice level was perfect for us. The Stir Fried Pork had lots of pieces of green long peppers in it which were super tasty but it was prudent to avoid eating the pepper seeds directly. There were also whole garlic chunks in it as well. The sauce was hot and oily but in the best way possible - the dish still had a fresh bright feel to it. Same went for the Cumin Lamb and the Green beans. Very fresh taste, every little bit retained it's own flavor. We ate intently, enjoying every taste. The decor is also great. It has a nicely done rustic style that makes eating here just that much more enjoyable. It is a whole experience. We saw so many amazing looking dishes going to other tables, we are coming back to this place again very soon. A note that we traveled on public transportation from the west end of the city to get here. This place is worth a major trip. Also the address is wrong on this listing. This place was incredible, probably the best Sichuan food i've had in the GTA area The wait was supposed to be an hour but the server, Niki, was very efficient and we were seated in less than 30 minutes. We ordered while waiting for our table and she checked in on allergies and gave us different levels for spiciness (we had regular and thought it was perfect - recommend for people who enjoy spicy foods, it's numbing too). The restaurant was small but well decorated. I would say the floor was a little slippery - due to fallen food but the tables and utensils were clean. Once we got seated the food came quickly. We ordered the boiled beef, cumin lamb, and mapo tofu. Every dish was cooked perfectly. The proteins were tender and soaked with flavour. My partner's said the tofu was the best he's ever had and I personally loved the cumin lamb the most (insanely tender, would recommend if you like cumin). Our server was also attentive throughout the meal (along with the other servers there). The portion sizes are very generous.
