I had a very similar experience consistent with many of the lower reviews posted here. I think the Owner was caring and loving with my daughter which was appreciated. However, her interactions with us as the parents were unprofessional. We were frequently made to feel bad or guilty for asking simple questions about our daughter's care such as how many times a day does she typically get a diaper change. Plus many other challenges that I won't go into detail about. For only $20 more/wk, we are able to send our daughter to a more professionally ran center that overall more closely aligns with our expectations regarding communication in partnership with our child's care. read more

My son began at Sugar Hill when he was 6 months old, he is now 11 months and I am forever grateful for Shari! I owe a lot of my sons development to Shari. My son learned how to sit up on his own, pull himself up, very close to walking and is very attentive and it was all from Shari's care. As a full time working mom I often felt guilty not spending as much time with my child during the week while working but with him being at Sugar Hill and having so much care and attention quickly made me feel so much better. He truly gets so excited everyday when he is dropped off at Shari's house and It gives me a sense of calm. Shari quickly got him onto a nap and food schedule which we follow at home and has made life so much easier! He was introduced to so many different foods and textures and will eat whatever is in front of him, including greens. My daughter has been going to My Sugar Hill Day Care for 3 months now and it has been so amazing having care we truly trust and know my daughter enjoys. We had to send her when she was only 5 months old and knowing Kinsley was in such great hands provided my husband and I the comfort we needed sending her so young. This is a long overdue update. We have been going here for over 5 years now. Miss Shari is family to us. My son stayed in her care from 6 months until he started TK where he transitioned without any issue academically or behaviorally. My daughter has been there almost a year. On Saturdays, she grabs her shoes because she wants to go to Shari's house and gets upset when we tell her it is the weekend and we are staying home. Shari makes great meals for the kids and I know my daughter is well loved in her care. My son is in kindergarten now and asks to go play at Shari's house every time we pick up his little sister. I think it's important that you understand two things first about this review: 1. It comes from a working mother of two children - currently both enrolled at My Sugarhill. 2. It belongs to someone who has been a client since 2011. My son has been at My Sugarhill since he was 14 months old, he is now 5. He will be attending kindergarten in the fall and thanks to the preschool program, he has ZERO problems with his kindergarten assessment test. He has been happy and well-adjusted at My Sugarhill. He loves Shari to pieces. He is still excited to go there every morning. I pay attention to my kids' attitude and I would be concerned if he ever felt like he did not want to go to Miss Shari's. He has lots of friends there and is really just so happy. My daughter has been at My Sugarhill since she was 3 months old. One of the first things I was relieved about when I got pregnant was that I would not have to worry about where my baby would go for daycare. I knew she would be with Shari and I knew she would be safe and loved. She has thrived there and is so happy to see Miss Shari and Miss P every day. She runs to them giggling. Again, I'm paying attention to how my kids react to being there. They are excited to go and are happy as can be and content when I pick them up. Shari is human. I don't think it's reasonable to expect anyone to be super human. Overall I find her extremely loving to the kids. Over the past 4 years I have seen her run a gamut of emotions, but she puts the kids first and that is what impresses me the most time and time again. I know she cares about the kids and she holds herself to a very high standard of care. I have found that my relationship with Shari has flourished in high communication and our ability to openly talk about any developmental changes with both of my kids. I know she cares and she has a lot of experience in her tool belt to help me when I ask for it. She always lets me guide the way I want my kids to be treated, fed, napped and so on. I find it hard to believe that anyone has found her to be uncooperative to reasonable requests. I think with any daycare or preschool you are looking at there has to be a personality match with the teachers. The same applies here. It's a relationship you have to consider carefully. But when I tell you that I have never regretted my decision to have either of my children in her care, I am being completely candid. I know that when I head off to work and am away from my babies, that they are loved, they are learning and they are so happy. My son has been going to My Sugar Hill since he was 3 months old. After interviewing over 20 day-care providers we were blown away by Shari. Of the day-care providers that we saw she was the ONLY day-care provider that we spoke to that actually took interest in our son and asked to hold him. We understand that child daycare is a business but our son isn't just a paycheck. She was extremely professional and even though we brought a 3 page list of questions (1st time parents) she answered them before we could get to them. She encouraged us to still interview other day-cares to make sure she was the best fit, and she was head and shoulders above the rest. Selling points for us: 1. She cleans and disinfects at the end of every day. 2. Minus milk or formula she provides the food/snacks. 3. Except national holidays she always has coverage, so if she goes on vacation you don't have to as well. 4. She does potty training. 5. On a strict schedule with naps (easy to follow at home). 6. Extremely honest and upfront. 7. She does parent/daycare conferences. 8. High Energy. 9. She teaches colors/shapes/numbers/letters and reading. 10. We heard of Sugar Hill daycare through a good friend of ours who sent her daughter there for a few years. I am typically cautious of home daycare centers so was pleasantly surprised about finding this place which was nearby our home in the Positano area. We've been sending our daughter to SugarHill for the past two years and am glad we did. Ms. Shari, who owns the daycare, runs a very safe and well organize environment for the kids. More importantly, she treats my daughter as if she were her own. They provide a very good academic program for the kids which includes reading, writing and fun arts and crafts project each day. After a few months I noticed Caitlyn was learning her letters and numbers and learning how to hold a pencil correctly! Also, I was impressed by the meals that Ms. Shari cooks for the kids (both breakfast and lunch). She posts the meals each morning on the board when we drop off the kids. I like the fact that they are not processed food but actually homemade meals which my daughter really enjoys! Overall, it's a really good daycare service that provides not only a good academic program but also a nurturing family run environment which I appreciate. read more

When we were looking for a child care provider, we originally planned on sending our son to a big day care center upon the recommendation of friends. But I'm glad we found My Sugar Hill Day Care. We picked Shari over the other providers we met with for the following reasons: 1. Our baby would be staying in a home. Admittedly, there's an appeal in sending him to a day care with a classroom setting, but after touring Shari's house, we decided that the in-home set up worked better for us. It was cozy, had plenty of toys, and our child would have his own crib and room. 2. It may be a home setting, but there's still structure. They follow a schedule -- and I'm pleasantly surprised that my son has adjusted so well to Shari's (nap) schedule that we follow it on weekends too. Our days just got more predictable. Yay! 3. Shari only takes one baby younger than a year old under her care. I believe her license allows for more, but we like that she keeps it to one. 4. Because it's a small group, the kids play with each other. Our son gets to socialize with another baby close to his age, plus older toddlers. That was a big plus for us. 5. Personality-wise, we thought it was a good match. We met with Shari several times before our son started and felt that she's good about setting expectations and communicates well. We got the impression that she will not sugarcoat stuff and for us, that was important. We felt that we were leaving our child with someone who would look out for him -- like family. And we love getting updates throughout the day. 6. The meals look yummy and are cooked fresh. We get pictures and they make me want to drive there during lunch break to eat. LOL. My son quickly adjusted to their meals. Fruits and veggies are offered daily. 7. They have different activities for different ages. The kids spend time outside, have story time, playtime, etc. My Sugar Hill may not be set up like a classroom, but to us, it's still a school because the kids learn from Shari's team and from each other. 8. She's flexible. We're in a position where we could have family visiting for months at a time. This hasn't happened yet since our baby started at My Sugar Hill. But when it does, we're thankful for Shari's flexibility and the options available to us. It's only been a month since we started at My Sugar Hill, but our son warmed up to Shari very quickly and always greets her with a smile (or a giggle). So far, this family is satisfied. read more

We have been very happy with Shari and her staff's attention to detail when it comes to caring for an infant. In October of 2012 it came time to enroll our 3year old son in daycare. Such a tough decision! Will the care providers be nice to my child? Will they teach him? Do they serve healthy food? Shari and her staff have been absolutely wonderful to my son! He's learned a ton, loves doing daily projects (and playing outside), and LOVES the food too! My Sugar Hill Daycare is a great and safe place for all - babies and kids. Despite all my initial fears of leaving my 8 month daughter and having to return to work, my daughter was jumping into the arms of Shari with a big smile from the very first day. Shari's facility is always very clean and organized. I especially appreciate that the children are fed healthy and nutritious home cooked meals and aren't fed jar foods filled with preservatives. Shari does an amazing job of creating a warm, nurturing, and safe environment for the children. There is a nice backyard and toys for all ages. Do not overlook these negative reviews. If you'll notice, there are a couple of common themes about this daycare and the woman who runs it - unprofessional, disorganized, and doesn't seem to truly love children. We signed up our 6 month old son for this daycare, although we had some reservations going into it due to several factors. So the fact that we did enroll him is our mistake, and one that we regret most deeply. Going in, one of our biggest doubts was around Shari's attitude towards the strict schedule that her daycare follows, and her constant reminders that every child must follow this schedule or they will disrupt her daycare. This strict schedule includes a 1:15-3:15 naptime, with a 9:15-11:15 naptime allowed for younger kids. She will ask you questions not because she is interested in your baby's preferences, but to feel out if your baby is a good sleeper and is "easy". She told us a story about one client who was asked to remove her child from her daycare because her child would not adjust to sleeping well there, and she faulted the mother for cosleeping with her baby, even though she told her not to. So if your baby sleeps through the night, takes 2 lengthy naps at the same time every day, doesn't cry much, and can entertain him/herself, then you're probably a good fit here. If you cosleep with your baby, and "spoil" him by holding him too much or helping him to get to sleep in any way, and he doesn't self-soothe, then I'd think twice about coming here. Another huge problem that we had with this woman is her attitude. The reviews stating that she is rude, negative, and doesn't seem to like kids were in our eyes, completely accurate. Maybe this is a difference in personality types, but I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a daycare provider to be warm, loving, truly be interested in and care about the kids, and be reassuring especially to new parents who are leaving their babies in her care for the first time. Shari displayed none of these characteristics. On our first day dropping off my baby, she didn't even say hi once I arrived there with my parents, who had been caring for my baby since he was born. She eventually came over to meet with us, but the expression on her face was stony and she seemed impatient. She didn't introduce herself to my parents until some time later, and didn't offer to take my son until we were about to leave. Now you ask me, is this what you would expect from the person that you trust your child to? Would that make you feel uncomfortable? The first day, I brushed off this behavior thinking that maybe she was just really busy, but as the days passed, every single time we dropped off or picked up, her attitude was the same. When my parents would pick up my baby, she would offer no updates at all about how his day went, and would only answer briefly how many minutes he slept and how many oz of milk he drank, only when they asked her. Impatient is another word to describe this woman. On the first day, she asked me if my baby had started solids, and as I started to explain that we had just started, and he had only tried a few foods and was still not eating solids regularly, she cut me off in the middle of a sentence and asked me to just say yes or no to rice cereal. Shocked, I just answered yes, but forgot what I meant to say. She also emailed me almost immediately on the first day letting me know that Connor wasn't adjusting well (big surprise, don't babies usually take some time to adjust to a new environment?) and suggesting that we do half days that whole first week to help him adjust. During that first week, not once did she send an update on how she was trying to help him adjust - again, just quick terse updates about how many minutes he slept and how much he ate. When we finally called her and told her that Connor would not be going back, my husband gave as one of the reasons her attitude and how she made us feel uneasy every time we saw her with her cold, unfeeling demeanor. In response, she asked what she was supposed to do, hold our hands? Well, yes! If I am trusting you with my baby, and he just started, then I would like you to hold our hands! If you can't even be cordial or friendly even if you're busy running a daycare, then I don't need my baby to be with you. Her price for infants currently is $350/week, which is only about $50/week less than a reputable infant day care center like La Petite Academy, which my older son had attended as an infant. The difference in service level is enormous. This place is simply not worth the money, and she tries to save money in little ways like not turning on the air conditioning unless it gets really hot, whereas at places like La Petite, you'd never have to worry about that. In the end, I deeply regret my decision to take my baby to this daycare, and we lost two weeks of deposit, plus almost a full week's fees. There's so much more I can share, but I'm out of room. read more

Very poor daycare. The owner is very unprofessional, negative and dislike kids. I had my son attend this daycare when he was 9 months old and he wouldn't eat lunch on his own yet, so she would not attempt to help him or train him to eat lunch. He would survive only with one bottle of milk from 9am until 5:30pm. He would be starving when I pick him up. I started to get suspicious and took his lunch so I can see the empty container at pick up and that's when she told me that he doesn't like my food nor eat hers and therefore she will not feed him. I am so surprised by these reviews. These reviews led me to give this place a shot. I had a tour a while back which didn't make me feel warm at all. She was nice and all but that's not enough for me. She told my 1 year old not to make a mess as she showed me around?? He was playing with books! So I held him for the rest of the tour and on the way out put the 1 book he played with away. She made a couple comments about how popular and in demand she is! Well do You have anything to hand me (like a packet) on my way out? She said she would call me with the prices and I never got a call back, a follow up to say thank you, instead a text saying "sorry I have been busy ill get back to you soon. My son was cared at My Sugar Hill last spring ~ summer before he was admitted by the school district IEP program. We were very thankful that we found My Sugar Hill during the difficult time for both our boy and ourselves. Before going to My Sugar Hill, my son had attended a popular montessori school for 2 years and got kicked out without a notice due to the so-called behavior issue which was actually a combination of his language development delay and the irresponsible teacher only wanting to deal with "easy" kids, we also thought he was not fully potty trained was the true reason. It put all of us in a difficult situation all of sudden because both my DH and myself are busy full time employees, and we were so scared to send my son to another "chain" pre-school that may kick him out again. Then we found my Sugar Hill! Ms. Shari listened to me and agreed to take my son in. Guess what? My son never had a behavior issue at my Sugar Hill, got along well with all the kids there, and came home much more happily! My Sugar hill has a beautiful and clean classroom set up, babies have separate sleeping room from the toddlers, inflatable playground and water plays in the back yard. Ms. Shari cooks delicious and nutritious food for the kids. More importantly, Ms. Shari and her tutoring teacher love and care kids. They are very nice and tender to the kids but in mean time, teach them right and wrong when needed (not like the teacher at the montessori school, didn't pay attention to kids but only scream the kids having bad behavior). It was a hard decision for us to move my son from My Sugar Hill to the IEP program because my son had such a wonderful time at My Sugar Hill, but in order to focus on his language development improvement, we decided to enroll him at the IEP program. We enrolled our now 11 month old daughter at My Sugar Hill Day Care a couple months ago and have been very happy with the care she receives. Shari and her staff ensure the children are happy and safe at all times. Our daughter smiles every day as soon as we walk through the door! Shari really loves the children in her care and is very honest. She serves healthy home cooked meals that my daughter loves. The hours (7:30am to 6:00pm) along with year round care (besides holidays) make it great for working parents to be able to manage their schedule. Shari provides well balanced activities, both fun and educational! The children get along great and Shari makes sure there is respect for everyone and everything at her house. Normally I don't write reviews but seeing the number of one-stars-reviews seems a little odd to me. Our girl has been very happy here. She loves going and she learns a lot. Yes, this is more of a pre-school type daycare and there is a schedule. But I suggest you look beyond all the "parent-services" other daycares provide and look at the value for your little one. We suggest everyone to do the same. Please recognize not all kids, parents and daycares are the same. So if it doesn't fit, fine, look somewhere else. Last summer, we were in the needs of dependable and safe daycare in our neighborhood we just moved in. I am glad that I found Shari's daycare then. Eve was in grandma/nanny setting until then (about to be 2yo), so she had to learn how to behave well with other kids, how to follow instructions, and how to go on a nap on her own. Initially it was a struggle to get her adjusted, but Shari had her magic to make it work. After a week, she transitioned well to a new setting and has grown her independence since! We love this daycare! I have had both my kids here for the past 6 months and it's been a great experience. Shari is very accommodating to our needs and is extremely dependable. Her home is very clean and she is great about keeping the kids on a schedule. She always sends us updates and pictures of the kids which I love seeing at work. Bottom line, I would know if my kids were not happy at this daycare. They are excited when I drop them off in the mornings and are really happy when I pick them up in the afternoon. My son Rian has been attending Sugar Hill Day Care since he was less than 3 years old. He is currently almost 5 years old and hence moving out. We have been extremely happy with Sheri and her how she handled him while he was not used to day care at all. She is always available if there are questions or concerns and keep us updated with pictures as well if we request for (the days when Rian is not in good mood:)). We enrolled my 18mo old son with Shari over a year ago. Shari is very organized and compliant as is anyone who works for her, which is a huge plus. She is very clear and upfront with her expectations of parents and children, which we also liked. She cooks healthy meals and snacks, also a plus. My son can count, loves to read with us, knows some nursery rhymes and songs, which is also a testament to Shari and her staff. She may not always answer the door, but you can bet it's because she is changing diapers or cleaning up from snack time. All these thing are great, but the reason we recommend her to everyone is that she genuinely cares about the kids in her care. We were very particular in selecting a good day care for my second daughter as we had bitter experience with a home day care with my first one. Our son has been with Ms. Shari since August of 2017 when he turned a year old, he is now 19 months. We cannot believe we were able to find a caregiver​ four our son who loves and adores him and makes every day​ for him special. As parents, it is so hard to be away from our baby during the day, however, there has not been one day that we have ever felt uneasy leaving our son in Ms. Shari's care. I can't believe I didn't find Sugar Hill Daycare sooner. I was looking for a daycare where my son could socialize with other children a couple days a week. He was miserable at the first place I enrolled him in and when I brought it up to the director she chalked it up to him having separation anxiety. They stated since it was only a couple of days he couldn't get use to the new routine. Obviously, they just wanted me to enroll him full time. After a couple months I pulled him out. I was hesitant to try another daycare, but due to a change in work schedule it became a necessity to find one quickly. I could sense how passionate she was about the children in her care and how proud she was of their accomplishments. Her home is clean and we'll organized with plenty of fun activities to keep the children busy. My son absolutely loves coming here. I hear fun stories about friends he's made and what he does each day. It was like night and day from the first institution. I have been taking my Son here for the past 2 years since he was 2. He absolutely loves it at My Sugar Hill. Ms Shari even helped potty train him after we first brought him in. The place is clean and she feeds the kids healthy meals. Any parent should be concerned about leaving the most precious thing in their lives (child) to a total stranger. My son Aiden has been going here for a while and I can say he loves it. What makes this place different from other places is the personal touch to detail. The food is always fresh and the place is always clean. My son is always excited to go back everyday because of the friends he made and even the staff. My husband and I were looking for a home-based preschool/day care for my 4 1/2 year old daughter and we are SO glad we found Shari's daycare. We visited many daycare providers/centers and immediately felt comfortable with Shari. Shari is a loving, nurturing, and caring individual who is very affectionate with the children. My daughter loves going to Shari's and when she comes home she talks about all the fun stuff she has done throughout the day. Hello, Shari and her helpers have been lifesavers. We enrolled our daughter when she was just 5 months old. The only people who ever took care of her besides my husband and I have been our family and my best friend. So to put her in daycare was a difficult decision for us. Shari made that transition smooth for all of us. We were originally supposed to start at the end of a August but she took us 3 weeks early and even brought in extra help so my daughter had one on one attention. My LO had weight issues and napping issues before coming to Shari and so far she has improved on both. She has also excelled in her motor skills as well. All the kids there are always happy, she sends me updates and pictures. If she has any concerns or questions she always contacts me. I am very impressed with her care. Every morning my daughter is excited to go to daycare. That makes it so much easier. I just wanted to take this chance to express my gratitude for Sherry @My Sugarhill Daycare! My son had been going there since he was about 2 1/2 years old and just now turned 5 and started kindergarten. He loved going there & I really appreciated the genuine care he received there.
