i was surprised at how many Thai restaurants were here in Amarillo. The one that gets talked about the most is My Thai. This is due to it's great location. Located off of Coulter, just north of I-40, this restaurant is minutes away from all this hospitals and the Texas Tech Health Science Center. No wonder then, that this place is a favorite amongst students who are craving Pad Thai while studying. I came here on a Thursday night with some friends and it was packed. I couldn't believe how many people were here. We waited a few minutes, but were then seated pretty quickly. I started off by ordering a Thai iced tea ($2), which was way too sweet. After letting the ice cubes melt, it was perfect. For an appetizer, we asked for an order of the satay. You can order the Moo (pork) or Kai(chicken) satay($7.50), but we decided to get half and half. The moo satay was tasty and pretty tender but the kai satay was rubbery and bland. Ew. It was like eating fake chicken. You really had to cover it with the included peanut sauce to make it edible. We also ordered a dozen of the Fried Wontons ($4). Ground pork wrapped in wonton skins and deep-fried. Simple, but delicious. For my entree, I ordered the Chicken Pa Nang ($8) - a traditional curry that combines chicken, curry paste, fish sauce, coconut milk with onions and bell peppers. Its served with your choice of fried or steamed rice. I don't know why it's called curry, it's more like a soup. It's very thin and when you put it on your rice it goes straight to the bottom of the plate like a puddle. It tasted OK, but the chicken was dry(white meat, ew). Not the best. Service was excellent, though. Our waitress was very attentive and she refilled our drinks often. When we decided to take our leftovers home, she brought out some fresh steamed rice for us to take with us. Thank you! Sadly, the service isn't enough to make up for the lackluster food. I've already been encouraged to try the other Thai restaurants here in town. No doubt this place will continue to be a local favorite, though. Most of the customers here will enjoy fried rice and egg rolls, which really aren't Thai cuisine at all. Do not go here for Thai food! It's also a Chinese restaurant and perhaps that should be what they focus on. My friend and I picked up food here the other night (Pad Thai) and it was a gross pile of warm noodles with zero flavoring. I also asked for my dish to be spicy and there was virtually no spice whatsoever. My friend did not like hers either. And trust me, we were traveling and not that picky. Save your money! read more

This is not Thai food. It is rather bad mall food court Chinese food that happens to be outside a mall food court. Service is not great. The Combination Pad Thai was bland and oily and it only had one shrimp in the whole dish. This was basically greasy combination fried rice with noodles instead of rice. The appetizers are almost all fried. The egg rolls tasted like cardboard. In short, stay away from here if you want Thai food or if you want anything with flavor. Better than expected. Service was prompt, friendly. COViD precautions in place and generally clean. Pad Thai was a bit too drowned in its own sauce. Yellow Curry was nice and spicy, the vegetables were fresh and not over cooked - a hazard in rural Texas. The portions were far too large by about 50%. Again, this is probably a rural issue - quantity is appreciated over quality by most patrons. I'd eat here again but probably share an entree. read more

Don't even think about ordering take out if you are in a hurry or hungry. However the staff will tell you it will be a 45 min to 1 hour wait per order. But the food is worth planning ahead for. Years ago Amarillo had some great Thai and Viet food. Unfortunately this one was not outstanding. The portion sizes were fine but mild seasoning made the food too bland. The sauces just did not have the bite that other places have. Curries were very pedestrian. read more

Wow such a disappointment. I heard this place was good and it wasn't at all. First, it took forever to get me and my son's order. Second, the food was not good. I got a chicken curry and the quality of chicken was so gross. The curry sauce was extremely runny. The fried rice looked like white rice just lightly fried. Out of the two egg rolls ordered only one was eaten an 1/8 of the way and the other left alone. The Mongolian beef should've been called Mongolian veggies as the beef was so sparse. This family-owned gem of a restaurant has been one of our favorites for decades. I arrived tonight when they were clearly short-staffed and people were having to wait. Let me be clear: I was warned that there would be a long wait. So were the other customers. Still, some were so rude, I was embarrassed for them. I've never understood the hype about this place. It's ok. Just not particularly good. I've tried several dishes and not found anything I would choose to come back and eat except the chicken satay with peanut sauce. Best satay in Amarillo but I'm not going to come here just for an appetizer. My husband likes the pineapple curry. But I'm not big on pineapple. Overall this place is just ok. This has been my favorite restaurant for as long as I can remember. The food is wonderful every single time. The atmosphere is relaxed and family friendly. The wait staff is always wonderful and respectful. The restaurant is always clean! Every time I come home this is the first place I come and eat. One of the very pleasant surprises received from six weeks of business travel to Amarillo was the number of generally good, and very reasonably priced, Thai, Japanese and Vietnamese (but few Chinese) restaurants. Standing for over three decades, My Thai combines very good Thai with above average Chinese dishes, very friendly (albeit somewhat slow) service, large portions and economical prices. The food won't win local competitions in America's Southeast Asian epicenters, but doesn't fall short by very much. For "small town" Amarillo, My Thai (and Bangkok Tokyo on Western Ave.) are outstanding Thai restaurants. Although My Thai is a bit Americanized through their selection of the more familiar Thai menu choices, they have admirably avoided the tendencies to tone-down the spice levels ("hot" is quite spicy) or substitute most of the authentic Thai aromatic and spice components. In particular, their Kra Pao (chili, garlic, onion and Thai basil) and Pa Nang (coconut milk yellow curry) are quite good, and loaded with quality protein components of the diner's choosing. I found their Pad Thai to be reasonably balanced and tasty, although a bit of fish sauce salinity would round out the preparation nicely. Other than the noodle-based dishes, each entrée is accompanied by a platter of either brown or lightly seasoned Thai-style fried rice. Such Chinese selections, as shrimp rolls and sweet and sour pork, appeared to be fried-to-order commercial products. These weren't of the same quality as the Thai dishes. My Thai is convenient to reach and reliable, very quickly becoming one of my "go-to" dinner choices. read more

I have loved my thai for 20+ yrs, even recommended many people, but the chances of going back are slim after today's visit. Understand cost increase, not a problem, but charging for sauces, I did not order very many and was given pints instead of singles, is crazy and the cashier is beyond rude!!!!! I visited My Thai during a stay in Amarillo, and it was not good at all. I ordered the Chicken Pad Thai and Fried Rice. Despite the Thai owners, both dishes were very bland and lacked authentic Thai flavor. There also wasn't a lot of meat in both dishes, so I was basically eating a lot of rice and noodles. When you pull up you think okay, original restaurant no big deal. Oh but when you walk through the doors Wow! Authentic. Friendly Smiles! Warm and cozy. As I sat down with co-workers and friends, the atmosphere just got better. The menu options are wonderful. I ordered the Seafood Soup with Shrimp and Spring rolls. Oh my Friday, Delicious! Just the best Seafood Soup I have ever tasted. I have traveled from county to country tasted food from everywhere. Who knew we had scrumptious flavorful stocked to the brim with shrimp, crab, mushrooms, scallions, scallops (that they give you abundance ) soup. This place has come highly recommended to me. After eating here twice, I'm not sure why. Perhaps my viewpoint is tainted as I've had awesome authentic Thai food. Recently I ordered their yellow curry chicken. That is a staple of Thai food. Yet it was super disappointing. It lacked flavor. It should be spicy but wasn't at all. A baby could have eaten it. My friends seemed equally disappointed with their meals too. They had the fried garlic chicken. Who ever heard of ordering garlic chicken at a Thai restaurant that comes out completely dry without any sauce? This place also doesn't offer Thai staples such as Thai iced coffee or Pad Woon Sen (a stir fry with glass noodles). My positive part of the review is that it is nice to have eating options beyond a steak house where every vegetable is fried. read more

This is a great Thai restaurant!! The Phat Thai was excellent, great flavor. If you want it hot they have pepper sauce. The Panang Curry Chicken was very nicely spiced. My Thai has been in Amarillo for years. My family started going originally because the food was good and they performed well on their health inspections. Over the last several years the quality of their food has gone down. Today I ordered the Sweet and Sour Chicken for take-out. The chicken was overcooked and had gristle (which has become the norm). My egg roll was also over done. More often than not my visits to My Thai lately are a disappointment. I will vow to never go back but then I cave because the place that I like is on the other side of town. read more

Pros: Cheap, fast, simple. Not extraordinary. Staff are friendly. Fried dishes are decent, can't go wrong with those. Cons: Tofu is served as if straight out of the original container (like barely cooked or seasoned, etc), so if you're looking for good tofu...this isn't your place. I dined at My Thai recently. The restaurant was not that busy by any means. The hostess puts us at a table for two, then, with plenty of open tables, seats a loud party of 6 next to us (and the tables are close). Of course we moved. The waiter never brought our egg rolls and his response when we told him to take them off of our bill was "OK"- no apology, no offer to bring them right away. Spotty service- and the manager stood near by talking to a table the majority of the time we were there, overlooking his job to, well, manage! The thing about Amarillo is that most of the newer Thai restaurants use the same recipes (My Thai, Thai Arawan, King & I)- so take your pick, you'll get the exact same thing. Hello, originality? The only reason I give this one star is for the egg roll and nothing else. The rest of the food had absolutely no flavor, the noodles were gross. They aroma smelled of chemicals. Ordered some take out on a Sunday evening. Was told over the phone it would be 30 minutes. Arrive 30 minutes later and wanted over 30 more minutes for the food. I could understand if the restaurant was extremely crowded but it was not just a lot of take out orders sitting around and people waiting for their take out orders. One lady had been waiting almost 45 minutes and there was no apology or any kind of compensation given. My Thai better step up their service or they'll be in trouble. Service was great but the food was awful. Seems like the only seasoning the chefs know how to use is soy sauce--there was practically no flavor in my dish (Kra Pow) other than salt and onion. If you are wanting Thai food, do not go here. While their lunch special prices are appealing, there is a reason they are priced that low. Fried rice was too salty and didn't even have veggies/lots of egg. Sweet and sour chicken was okay, and they were out of broccoli on the beef and broccoli. We ordered a pad c u. A noodle dish. Mine was chicken. Hubbys was pork. We have gone to this restaurant of over 20 years. It has done nuttin but IMPROVE!!! They have new flooring in the restaurant. The tables are covered in cloth then plastic. All matching sauce trays. Very thialandish. But back to the food!!!! YUMMY! There was so much meat n veggies that there were less noodles. Which what do u want to pay for? Mostly noodle? Or meat n veggies? They have a all picture menu. And they serve their dishes pretty. Our meal was so full of fresh flavor!!!
