Absolutely do not hire this contractor. He abandoned the job before it was finished and was never around to oversee his workers--he only showed up when it was time to collect money. The work that did get done was a disaster: plants placed carelessly, fences built so poorly they'll need to be replaced, and concrete work that looks like it was done by amateurs. He even sent unlicensed electricians who ended up shorting out appliances--completely unacceptable and dangerous. He talks a good game about what he'll deliver, but nothing he produces comes close to professional quality. He works with a guy named Tomas and his teenage son, neither of whom have any business doing construction. The level of incompetence is shocking. Kiel is extremely friendly and personable, but unfortunately that is about the only positive thing I can say about working with this company. A short list of some of the issues that we had for our full backyard overhaul (unfortunately some are still surfacing): * An error in the leveling/grading of the patio means that a puddle of water collects NEXT to (but not over) the drainage trough. * Sloppy work on the drainage trough has it cracking and coming apart now after only a few years to the point where stepping on it in places feels sketchy. * After we picked a granite out (as specified in the contract) they installed an engineered quartz countertop, which to our knowledge is not rated for direct exposure to UV/Sun over long periods of time. (They did eventually replace this and waive the final $5000 payment.. but it took him a full year of me texting him every few weeks to ask him what the status was to do this) * The gate to the backyard has already completely broken apart due to being mis-installed (~2-3 years after project completion) * The electrical work was unpermitted (we were not informed that permits were needed or given any guidance on this) * Partially due to the lack of permits and inspection.. they apparently wired an insufficient circuit to run the pump in the spa and the patio heaters at the same time.. so the second we turned the heaters on, the breaker tripped. To solve this, they upgraded the circuit breaker from a 40A to a 70A but neglected to upgrade the wire which presents a safety hazard as the wire is only rated for 40A. * Further still.. even the 70A breaker wasn't enough, because when the spa's heater turns on.. the current usage spikes over 70A and trips the breaker anyway.. (this just happens less often because usually only the pump is running). The electrician is now saying that they basically have to re-do a significant part of that work to get it up to code. I can't recommend Kiel to anyone, not only were these issues unforgivable for someone being trusted with a big project like this, communication was spotty at best.. and I don't think I saw Kiel on site more than once or twice to supervise/inspect work outside of the scheduled meetings. read more

Kiel and his team did an amazing job landscaping both my front and back yard. He made sure he understood what I was looking for and worked with me throughout the job to make sure we were on track. They showed up and completed the work as discussed. I paid what he quoted, even though some things were added or altered and should have cost more I'm sure. Very poor experience. After installing a leaky roof on my pergola they agreed to fix it "this week" and have been promising that for a month. All my calls go to voicemail now and no contact is being returned. He took my money, did sub par work and refuses to stand by the quality even after agreeing his work was sub standard and stating he would do the needed repairs. Very dishonest! If there was a 0 star, I would choose that. Our 2 week estimated project took over 4 months, and was never completed fully before we never heard from him again. Kiel was very nice at the start, and as others talked about, I learned more about his family and kids that I did about my yard concerns. He was quick to offer a bid, but once the work started he became more and more MIA, at the end impossible to get a hold of. He films for some TV shows which often meant my yard went untouched and remained in shambles for a week or 2 at a time. I also gave him freedom to pick plants and bark, thinking I was deferring to an expert, and he put all wrong plants in the wrong places (shade plants in full sun, etc), all of which had to be dug up and replaced by me later...at my additional expense. We also have a ton of trees in the yard, so I asked him to pick the best mulch, and he chose to put in the cheapest one to maximize his profits and also to cause me to have to rake it up on my own and replace at my own additional expense. The mulch he put in was stringy and not able to withstand a blower or rake, both of which are needed for the many trees in our yard. The sprinkler system that put in is sloppy and has NOTHING but problems, and we have already had to rip most of it up and fix it, since we cant let separated pipe seams (had often no glue, or had incorrect piping used) for his teams awful work spray water all over the yard. he is IMPOSSIBLE to get a hold of once a project starts, and if you do get a hold of him, he has a zillion excuses as to why he couldn't finish your job on time. read more

We had Myer's do our front and backyard and were very happy with the results. Kiel had great suggestions on what would and wouldn't work for our space. His foreman, Tony, did a great job making sure everything was done as we wanted as did the rest of the crew. They showed up every day as planned around 7am and worked a full day. I never felt like we had needless delays. The payment schedule was clear and based on major milestones which I really liked. I couldn't be happier with the services I received from Myers Landscape. From the day 1 consultation through the finished product. We did a significant backyard remodel, which included extensive demolition, concrete removal, lots of new drainage, new patio areas, new lawn and new planter areas. Kiel provided a detailed and itemized bid for every aspect of our initial vision, which we knew was more than we could afford at this time. He was great about helping us figure out which items to keep and which to postpone or remove in order to stay within our target budget. He was great about providing suggestions and input based on his experience, but was also careful to make sure we were getting the backyard that met our needs. Work started on the day promised, and was finished within the timeframe promised. We always knew ahead of time which days they would be here. The crew, especially Tony the foreman, were great, and left the yard clean and neat at the end of each day (at least as clean as possible during concrete demolition). Kiel always checked in before key steps in the project, and I could always get in touch with him with questions. The only increases in our costs were due to me requesting additional items along they way (removing extra trees, adding more drainage, etc.) He took very good care of me with the contract changes, and all pricing was fair and transparent, and was always pre-approved before any additional work was done. Kiel was very helpful with plant selection at the end of the project, and the finished product is fantastic. We will absolutely hire Myers Landscape again for future projects, and I highly recommend Myers to anyone interested. We received multiple bids for our work, and not only was Myers very competitively priced, but he did a great job helping me find cost effective ways to meet our vision, without doing more work than was necessary. read more

We contracted with Kiel Myers of Myers Landscaping in El Dorado Hills to put a simple french drain in our backyard. He did about 60% of it and then walked away. Please, don't be fooled by his down home, good ol' boy behavior. He lives in our neighborhood and did this to us. We were shocked and couldn't believe it! DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY, THEY ARE DECEITFUL. I had hired Kiel a few years back when I had moved to Serrano to renovate our backyard. Kiel assured me that he was familiar with the Serrano HOA, was familiar with their pre-approval and planning process and stated he would take care of all the paperwork. Trusting Keil and paying $8,000 to his company I figured he would go through the process correctly. A couple of years later now when trying to change some plant material in our backyard, I found KEIL LIED and never submitted any plans to Serrano HOA and therefore no work order was ever approved by the HOA. When I contacted him requesting a copy of the submitted plans of approved paperwork from Serrano HOA there was no response. Due to this, I had to re-hire a legitimate and honest landscape company to draw plans and once again pay to renovate my backyard correctly as to not face fines imposed by the HOA. On another note when installing the snake fence around my property they were supposed to dig 12 inches under the dirt, I was lucky to find sections that were 1 inch under ground. Kiel Myers is a good talker that puts himself first and the client second. He promised me a list of plants then instead installed planrts of his choice that looked like they had been on sale at the nursery. The contract called for 50% down when contrctors license law limits the down payment to 10% and not over $1000. The work is not done by Myers but by Tony a sub contractor who I do not believe has a contractors license. I wonder if his workers are covered by Worker Compensation insurance. Kiel did offer to return to corect some of the faults if I wpould pay fpr the materials. I turned him down as his proposal was a half fix not acceptable to me.
