Let me preface this post by saying that I used to come to MyEyeDr in Pentagon City when I lived in Arlington years ago because of the convenient location. My past experiences there as a patient weren't bad, but they weren't particularly memorable either. I have since moved. I was in the area last week when my right contact ripped as I was getting ready for a big event. Distraught that they were my only pair here, I quickly donned my backup glasses and took to the streets to find an eye doctor. I remembered that MyEyeDr was in the Pentagon City mall which was close to where I was staying, so I dropped in hoping they would be able to assist me. From the get-go Waseem was friendly and helpful. I explained my emergency situation, showed him my prescription, and without hesitation he went to the back and came out with trial lenses for me to use! I couldn't thank him enough! This location is NOT IN PENTAGON CITY... WHICH IS THE MALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!! In addition there isn't ANY PARKING! It's street if/when available and it's paid. The neighboring lots MAY have retail Parking in my case they didn't... Because of ALL this not being clearly stated ANYWHERE in my confirmation or online... I was late. She still took me she did a great job ... so did the gentleman in the front also was nice but, the lack of clarity and selection is f Sunshades is a real issue here. My first experience with this practice for exam, contacts and glasses was mixed, but leaned pretty negative. The only bright spot at this MyEyeDoctor was the great customer service from their outstanding new GM, Brian. I thought I got a good prescription from Dr. Hammer, but I am now not sure. The glasses they sold me are okay but leave me squinting and unable to see well while driving at night. Dr. Hammer is ineffective in doing right by her patients- she did not agree with every other eye doctor I've seen regarding the medical necessity of my extremely nearsighted prescription. I have eye coverage, but her misguided priorities or incentive structure would have ended up costing me $1000 out of pocket, but another member of her staff helped her see the value of resolving the issue. If, like me, you're reading the reviews AFTER a disappointing visit to My Eye Dr. in Pentagon City, you're probably regretting your decision. TLDR: My experience mirrors that of other unhappy patients. This company added charges covertly, and despite my requests to remove them, some persisted on the final bill. Here's the detailed version: I have insurance that covers an exam, glasses, and lenses. I made it clear that I wanted only what my insurance covered. The exam with the doctor was fine, but the problems began with the store's sales staff. The deceitful tactics were evident from the start. For instance, only the most expensive, designer frames, like Tom Ford and Chanel, were on display. When I inquired about frames covered by my insurance, I was shown a hidden selection in a drawer in the back of the store. I chose a pair and reminded the saleswoman that I wanted only what my insurance covered. She entered several things into the computer and then announced, as if offering a great deal, "Your glasses today cost $899, but with your insurance, the total is only $398." Confused by the math, I was told this included lightweight lenses, anti-glare coating, a copay, and an extra $39 eye test. I agreed to pay the copay and the test fee, bringing the total down to around $130. Though annoyed, I paid, thinking my insurance was not as comprehensive as I believed. After paying and placing my order, I was told to return later to collect my glasses, as they couldn't mail them due to fitting concerns. When I received notification that my glasses were ready, I also found an itemized receipt charging me for the anti-glare coating and a contact lens fitting. Upon collection, I requested these charges be removed. Despite explaining I never wanted the anti-glare coating and had no need for a contact lens fitting, the manager, Devon, was unhelpful. He insisted on charging for the anti-glare lenses since they were custom made and for the contact lens fitting, supposedly for writing the prescription. Perfectly on brand for their opaque, less-than-forthright charging scheme, no one ever fit me for contact lenses (I did get a contact lens prescription, but the exact same one as previous year.) And, even though in store, no one fitted my eyeglasses either. To top it all off, I received an email "personally from the My Eye Dr. CEO" asking for feedback. I completed the survey, detailing my issues, and agreed to be contacted. While I didn't expect a direct response from the CEO, I was surprised when Devon reached out instead, offering to discuss my insurance benefits. I declined. As a result, I'm sharing my experience here to warn others. I've reported My Eye Dr.'s deceptive practices to both the VA Board for Hearing Aid Specialists and Opticians and the Better Business Bureau. I encourage others who've had similar experiences to do the same. Companies should earn profits honestly, not through deceitful upselling. Needless to say, I won't be returning to My Eye Dr. Instead, I'll opt for online shopping, where I have more control over my purchase. read more

I went for an eye exam and new glasses. The doctor was very friendly and professional, making the process very quick. During the process of getting my glasses I was helped by an employee named Jason. He was incredible. He walked me through a large number of options with my desired aesthetics. I never felt rushed or isolated which was very comforting as I don't buy glasses often. After helping me through all my options and my decisions, he was extremely thoughtful when it came to the cost of the different lens options and gave his ideas when I asked; never overstepping a boundary. Update: definitely five stars. It took four follow-ups and a lot of patience, but they gradually helped me resolve a serious problem with dry eye/inflammation until my eyes were healthy enough to wear contacts again. Dr. Zaer cared so much that she even encouraged me to come in for the fourth follow-up free of charge just to make sure that all was well. Their eye exams are out of network for me, but I don't even care - I'll absolutely be back here for all my vision-related needs. Dr. Zaer and her team are beyond reproach. read more

The front staff was very unhelpful and passive aggressive. I was trying to get basic computer glasses but they KEPT trying to upsell me with a bunch of add-ons. I was very explicit in asking for BASIC lens. I purchased my glasses but was skeptical so I called my insurance. The insurance company told me that the store still gave me upgraded lens, which is why I had to pay a co-pay for the lenses (otherwise, basic lenses would've been fully covered). I called the store back and they said that the lens they charged me for is what THEY consider "basic". Then, they told me they were busy and suddenly hung up. Said they would get back to me but never did. They also needed to send me scans (which I paid an additional fee for) to take to my ophthalmologist for additional testing but they never did. Already went to my ophthalmologist, I guess I don't need those scans anymore. Shameful service! Stay clear. (P.S. the doctor was nice though) read more

The team that greeting me was excellent, and professional. My screenings were done and explained with great care. My visit with the doctor also proved to be a positive experience. However, the ultimate purpose I came to the store was to purchase glasses. The representative changed the entire experience. He provided little assistance, save unlocking a case. Provided no recommendations and provide no information on options. His poor customer service and over lack of concern caused me to leave the store with no intentions to return. Have been going to this place for a few years now and my latest experience with them has been truly disappointing. Please do read the reviews and pay careful attention to customer service comments. This would have been fewer stars but a manager called to apologize and was very transparent about the situation. I've been waiting two+ weeks now for just lenses when I was told 3-7 days. My order was never processed due to some miscommunication with the insurance and I was never given a call. When I tried to get in touch, I kept being told I would get a call because they needed to talk to the lab. I wouldn't get called back and the nice lady answering the phone was even surprised. Turns out the ball was dropped, no one got in touch with me, I never received confirmation emails, but I was charged.... that was processed correctly of course... They're now putting in a rush order that is still expected to take up to a week and then they'll still need to cut my lenses. I'm glad for the latest call and help to correct the issue. Overall just disappointing and unfortunately this will likely be my last visit to MyEyeDr. There is a lot of competition in Eyewear and not hard to find a good optometrist and Eyewear provider. I've had prescription glasses for 15 years and I have to say, this place has the worst customer service I've ever encountered by a long shot. Waseem was horrible. He was yawning the entire time, disengaged, and very impatient. Everything he did or said indicates he wanted me out the door ASAP. It made me feel absolutely disrespected and unimportant. I was in a hurry or I would have walked out. I'd love to see how they'd behave in the face of losing $1000 worth of business. The manager, Syed, was joking with Waseem while I was being helped. When I asked a question, he couldn't even look up from his phone. I was also told that I would get an email asking for comments about my experiences but that never came, so I guess this is where I go to express my displeasure with this branch. The only redeeming quality this place has is that Dr. Kim was one of the most thorough doctors I've had. She makes the entire experience not repulsive. She seriously is amazing, I don't know about other doctors at that location, but you would be in good hands if you see Dr. Kim. read more

They do not want to work in this store. No greeting upon arrival. The staff was sitting there as if they were ready to go home. The customer service was horrible. I never received a confirmation phone call. But did receive 2 emails that stated 3:20 pm appts. Arrived at 3:15, was advised only one of us could be seen. Because the first appt was at 3pm. I ordered glasses a month ago from MyEyeDr. and they failed to actually place the order, so I'm stuck calling around for contact trials to hold me over in the meantime. Monica at this location answered the phone by rudely saying "Can I help you?". I was taken aback and she realized she had answered the phone incorrectly and quickly gave me the appropriate standard greeting. She was hesitant to give me her name. I explained my situation to her and she continued to put me on hold 5 different times and each time she returned back to the call, she would ask for the situation to be reexplained to her as if she was either drunk, high, or lacking intelligence when it comes to customer service. She never ended up helping me out after spending 20 minutes on the phone with her, I gave up dealing with someone this incompetent because it was getting on my last nerves. What kind of hiring or training process does this company have, because it seriously needs to be fixed! Sue Downes is making so much money running around the country acquiring privately owned eye doctors, that she doesn't even care about how they're being ran anymore. It's downright ridiculous. Today, I called another office (Springfield) and spoke to another incompetent employee named, Bridget, in attempt to get contact trials and she put me on hold three different times and each time came back on the phone telling me she cannot help me because Monica at pentagon flagged my profile in their system (Acuity). This is the WORST company and I will post this review on multiple outlets and make sure to let my friends and family know to never spend their money here because they literally hire people that have no skills, sense of respect or even customer service. If there was a zero option I would put zero. At first they have good customer service, but they do not. I requested that they overnight my contacts and they said they would at no cost. When I asked about my contacts 2 days later, I was told that my contacts wouldn't be ready for another week. I reminded them that I requested overnight shipping. They claimed that wasn't true. Since I was being deployed overseas, I would not be able to pick up my contacts. So I requested that my friend pick up my contacts, they assured me it wouldn't be a problem. I also told them that my address on file would not be good anymore since I was being sent overseas. My friend tried to pick up my contacts and he was told they mailed my contacts to my address on file!!! Nobody in that store knows what is going on. Nobody pays attention to what the customer needs. I paid for my contacts and I still don't have them! I should have ran away when another customer was having issues with them. Worst customer service!!!! read more

DO NOT GO TO THIS LOCATION (I had to put 1 star) I have been a customer for years and this location DOES NOT know how to fill prescriptions. They either make the "fax machine" the excuse (saying it's a technical problem) or say that the Dr. (Dr. Zaer) is out and can't fill it until she is in. Please note, the doctor is in 1-2 days a week. This is unacceptable service and I have had to call MULTIPLE times to get people to try and get them to fill a prescription that should be a simple service and not difficult. I pay more than the average amount for contacts and an eye exam every year. The people are nice but for something as simple as filling a prescription, it's like pulling teeth. When I spoke to the manager (AMAL) he did not try and accommodate me and tried to give him the runaround for me to have the pharmacy email me and do more work to email them and do HIS job. Instead, I told him to call the pharmacy and have them fill it so I could pick up the prescription and call me back and confirm it was completed. That is what good customer service is. I've tried to give this location the benefit of the doubt as their ratings on Google are poor as well. If the reply is "Call Corporate Customer Service" ----believe me, I have: 1.888.414.4442 and email customerservice@myeyedr.com. See what you get---no help at all. They said they emailed the Regional Manager and called the Manager of that location. There is absolutely NO ACCOUNTABILITY for people to do their job. Open ended promises and a failure to come through. Just an FYI--I resolved this by calling another doctor at The Eye Center and they resolved everything within 20min. Dr. Zaer is the BEST very nice and straightforward about your Rx and eye health. The exam was thorough and all my questions where answered. I was having a issue with a newer pair of glasses I couldn't see clearly through, come to find out my old Dr. botched the Rx. I also found out my eyes have been the same for 5 years as they tested my older pair of glasses and it match the results of the exam. They could have not done any of that and left me wondering but they affirmed my suspicions. The optical staff are great very open and not trying to force you to buy a new pair of glasses or contact through them, they actually make it super easy as they price most of the online and local retailers of contacts and glasses. If you have VSP this is the place to go as you get further discounts on top of your plan discounts. I have never walked out of a eye exam and bought glasses as I tend to price compare due to the outrageous prices, but after my recent exam I bought two pair! They will also clean and adjust your frames for life. I will be back next year! read more

After 2 weeks and no text I decided to call and they said it should be ready but arrived at that day so that's the reason I never got a call! When I step inside to pick up my prescription they said somebody else picked them up!!!!! What the manager did? Gave me try out samples! This is the worst place ever to get glasses I would give them 0 stars if that was an option. I ordered 2 pairs of glasses the same day. The 1st pair came in about a week later. I was never notified that they were in, I called to check the status and they told me they had been sitting at the store for over a week. When I picked the up they "fitted" the glasses to my face by bending they way out of shape. I took the glasses to another glasses store in the mall because they were so uncomfortable to wear and it took over a half hour to fix them because they were so out of wack but luckily they were fixable. The 2nd pair of glasses I have been waiting for over a month now but have not received them. They are giving me the run around about when they will be delivered. I'll call in and they will tell me they will be here next week so I call back the next week and still no glasses and once again get told they will be here the next week. I tried to cancel the order but I wasn't allowed to do that because of course they already billed my insurance for the glasses. This place is a joke! Completely horrible place!! Filled with hidden fees and inaccuracies!!!!! How difficult is it to give me the correct trial pair of contact lenses. I had to come back four different times before they got it correct. Okay, last update with respect to my original visit. So quick news flash: Both the manager and asst. manager are named Alejandro. I was informed that the former now goes by "Alex" and the latter with the full formal "Alejandro." I premise this because otherwise I'd be talking about two different Alejandros. So I have been talking to Alex (manager) since middle of last week. We agreed on a pair of glasses, which had to be ordered. Alex had been really quick about the emails, even a small hiccup regarding the right color. I was notified that my order had come in today. My schedule is such that I had to come in today (Tuesday), but Alex was not going to be there. I was asked to talk to Alejandro (Asst. Manager). Alejandro understands my frustrations buying glasses (I have a larger head, which restricts what I can get my hands on). He was very helpful in making sure the frames fit, and was incredibly informative. In addition, Alejandro was collegial and professional. He knew what was in the store, and since I understand that larger frames don't really get a lot of supply in individual stores, he mentioned that if we didn't find something right then, he'd help me eventually find something. I will be returning to this location very soon to place a second order. My initial visit to the store was an anomaly. read more

My Eye Dr. is really great. Walking in I got greeted quite promptly and then scheduled for an eye exam on a day that was convenient to me. There's a fairly large selection of glasses to choose from with nice brands compared to the Visionworks across the way that I also checked out. My Optometrist was really nice and clearly explained the state of my eyes to me. Afterwards I was promptly given my prescription and the optician helped me pick out a pair of glasses that were suitable for me and adjusted them. Their prices are fairly cheap even if you don't have insurance and they were super nice and friendly when I went. I'd go here again for my next checkup for sure. read more

This week I went into the Pentagon City branch store to get my "MyEyeDr." purchased (four figure Oliver Peoples) frames adjusted. After they were done; I noticed my vision was not quite right; it even felt quite blurry. I immediately complained. They said that's normal; and that I should take 15 minutes walk around the mall -- and my eyes will get used to it. "This is very normal." They said the issue is that they adjusted my glasses so they actually fit on my face; and that I simply was not used to that... I waited twenty minutes before driving home as I had an engagement to get to; I could see decently well and figured I just had to get used to it. Throughout the week, I still senses some blurriness but could see more or less fine. I was extremely busy with work this week and tried not to think about the slight blurriness. On the weekend, I had to drive 45 minutes to an event -- and was nearly in a serious car accident. As it turned out, the blurriness had adversely impacted my peripheral vision... Well, enough was enough. I went into the Clarendon location -- after about 30 minutes of waiting they finally concluded that the other branch mistakenly switched the lenses and they were on the wrong eyes!!! I'm glad I was at least persistent enough to check out my glasses before it was too late! THAT IS BUSH LEAGUE -- PEOPLE COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY HURT BY THIS NEGLIGENCE!! BUYER BEWARE!! read more

Called here to use my eye insurance - something I've never had until now (damned aging). The doc who gave me the eye exam was good - she was friendly, patient, and took the time to ensure I understood what was going on. The glasses staff, however, is a totally different story. Glasses are sold like cars - they're constantly trying to upsell you and get you to buy top line frames, get 30,000 coatings on the lenses, and whatever other gimmick they have that day. On top of that, it takes them over a week to get the glasses made - you would think that the various diopters would be available in their lens inventory. Nope. They ended up making my glasses wrong and getting the axis flipped - so I ended up with a headache at the end of the first day. When I took them back, the guy in the shop said they would take a look and adjust the lenses. Turns out, he did nothing. I went back again and was protesting rather loudly to the girl at the register and the eye doctor called me in to ask what was wrong. When I explained the problem, she measured the glasses, frowned, exhaled forcefully, and then asked me to wait. I heard her go outside and chastise the sales people and ask who helped me the first time around. Long story short, she got the axis corrected and now I wear the glasses with no problem. If you do have insurance or are just getting glasses for the first time, I recommend you go in October/November. I went in December and ran into this human morass attempting to spend their benefits (myself included) before they expire. No more. read more

The most unprofessional eye care people I have dealt with. After an eye exam, they referred me to another optometrist for a glaucoma test since they didn't have the right equipment on site. I couldn't use this referral since their preferred optometrist didn't accept my insurance, so I had to go somewhere else. However myeyedr did not share medical records thoroughly with my optometrist, so had to repeat a whole variety of tests unnecessarily. Also they concluded my prescription had changed when it hadn't -- and were aggressive in trying to get me to get my new glasses with them and confusing in laying out the options using my insurance. To be fair, the actual doctor who did the exam was very good and patient. Thumbs up to her. The staff however are a piece of work. Never again. read more

I have bought two glasses from here. The first was great, went fine. I think I remember a little negotiation. I bought a second pair too. This one had problems. The lease popped out once; they fixed it for free no problem. It popped out again; they identified that the lens was cut too big and took it in for repairs. When I got it back I asked about something, and in doing that they noticed another problem... A stripped screw. So the guy up and replaced the frame for me. Normally a defective product requiring me to go back to the store multiple times would warrant a low review. But the people there were so nice and helpful! Didn't charge or anything, and really took time to try to fix it, including just replacing the frame for free. I appreciate how KO and Diego were in particular so helpful, but everyone was great! read more

If I could give them a "0" stars I would. The worse experience ever, I'm on my 3rd redo of the lenses since March. The first lenses included an unwanted blue hue, I went back to pick up the new lenses, the sales associate could not get lenses out of frames and asked that I return when a manager was avaialble. I came back a few days later when the manager was there, only for the lenses to not be there and the sales associate who I had a detailed conversation with regarding her inabiity to replace the lenses, said she didn't remember me coming or her having a conversation with me. The manager orders new lenses I received, and they did not have the reading portion in the lenses. Its been a month and noone answers the phones, I haven't received a call either. I walked to my appointment, only to find the office closed due to a little bit of snowy weather. I received NO call requesting to cancel/reschedule my appointment and took leave from work for the appointment. Needless to say, I won't be making an attempt at rescheduling. Common courtesy would have been to call patients with appoints to cancel/reschedule. Fantastic experience! Like many guys, I put off seeing doctors of any kind until I'm forced to, through whatever circumstance that may be. After avoiding seeing an eye doc for 2 years, my old doc refused to confirm my prescription for online contacts purchases; time to go see the ole' eye doc. I called and made an appoinment for myself and my fiance the same day within 30 minutes of each other. So far so good. When we arrived, we were greeted by friendly staff and seated in front of two huge big screens with ESPN and a cooking show on each set. Little something for everyone. We were promptly seen and given thorough (better than I've ever had with any other doc) exams. I left the office feeling way more informed about my eyesight, eyecare, etc. than I ever had. At this point, i was willing to give these guys a solid Yelp review. After the exam we were passed off to the sales guys to actually fulfill our order. I braced for the used car salesmen approach but was TOTALLY SURPRISED to find that the sales staff Alex Paredes (who helped me) and Aaron Tzo (helped my fiance), were unbelievably knowledgable, friendly, and efficient. These guys were able to beat my prefered online vendors price for a years worth of contacts, and gave us each a pair of free sunglasses for our trouble, along with several bottles of spray cleaner and cloths. I don't generally write reviews but I feel compelled to do so. I think this might actually be my first ever negative review, however I left this location feeling very misled and taken advantage of, and I don't want this to happen to anyone else. I found this location and doctor specifically through my insurance provider's website as someone who was in-network and covered by my insurance. When I arrived for my appointment, I handed over my insurance card, they did the initial paper work, good to go. The exam itself was fine, the doctor seemed very kind and good at her job. After the exam, I said I did not want to purchase new glasses, as the ones I had were working fine. I was told at that time that my insurance could be used toward prescription sunglasses, which I was interested in, and since I get a yearly allotment through my insurance, I figured what the heck. I sat down with the salesperson, and he priced out the glasses for me. Which came to a total of $522 dollars. I told him no, I did not want to spend that much. He then told me he priced "average" frames, but if I chose cheaper frames, the cost could be $50ish less. I told him again that I was not interested, the lenses were $200 and I didn't want to pay that. He THEN offered me a different kind of lens, a "tint" instead of "polarized", which would be cheaper. I again told him I did not want to spend that much money. He then asked me how much I would be willing to spend. Once again, I declined the glasses. During my exam, I had agreed to the photograph of my eye, which is always a $27 co-pay for me (I've been to MyEyeDr before and expected this cost). My insurance covers my exam in full, so the only charge I was expecting after the exam the $27, however he told me my total bill was $70 for the exam + photo. I asked him if that was an error, since my yearly exam is covered in full. He responded, "actually, you're out-of-network here, so your insurance doesn't cover, but you get a discount". I told him that had to be a mistake, I found this location and doctor on my provider's website. He said, "oh yeah, that happens here sometimes". So I ended up paying the $70. This has NEVER, EVER happened to me before in finding a doctor through my provider's website. I checked twice. I completely understand that a mistake could be made with the listing, but if they know this happens at this location, why didn't they tell me, when I first checked in, that I wasn't covered? This is apparently not the first time. It is incredibly misleading not to let people know they are not covered when they check in. On top of that, I felt like they were trying to push me very hard to buy glasses, despite me declining several times. Health care in this country is hard enough as it is. Please don't be part of the problem. I am fortunate enough that paying the unexpected cost of the exam did not set me back to the point I couldn't afford groceries or rent or something, but what if it had? If this is happening to other people at this location, what if they do not have the means and this is seriously harmful? Just be honest with people. If you don't take my insurance, please give me a heads-up when I check in. And if you KNOW that this happens at your location, maybe call the providers this is happening with and clear it up! At the very least, tell people! Don't be jerks. I can handle sub-par service and mistakes when I am at a business, but this is just plain shady and trying to take advantage of people. I felt like all they wanted was my money, and that they misled me in trying to get it.
