I wear a narrow size and they're hard to find so when I find one I like, I used to buy a second new pair for the future and out them away in their new case etc. My older frames tend to break, or I sit on them accidentally, which is frustrating since they don't make them anymore. I brought a pair of metal frames to them - I have a rare pair of Oliver Peoples black metal frames I always liked to wear. The corner snapped off and I thought that was the end for them. Doesn't matter - they're perfect now. Solid 5 stars. Can't stress enough how happy I am with my interaction at this business. The guy's name is Justin and he's the only one that's there. My frame snapped in my hand last week right at a very vulnerable spot, where the temple screw meets the frame interface loop. Metal on metal - SNAP!!! Both pieces. Right where the screw would go in. Figured they'd be impossible to repair so I even started looking for a new frame when I remembered I had this place bookmarked. Drove down there on a hope and a prayer. Went to see Justin and he said 'no problem', he could even have them ready while I waited. I told him 'no rush' I could come back, to take his time. (He charges an extra $6 for the rush service, btw). It was only going to be a $60 charge -more good news. You pay upfront. Dropped them on a Wednesday 4/5 came back the following Wednesday (today, 4/12), and the finished product is as good as new. He was able to remove the broken metal on the left side and replace it with new hardware. I'm happy. Good resource to have in your back pocket if you ever have a broken frame. He's only open every other day so be mindful to check the website before you waste your time like I did going back yesterday. 17th Street also doesn't really have anywhere to park so luckily he moves pretty quickly and gets you in and out. My eyeglasses are non-standard and have no screws or springs. The temples were severely bent, and to repair them, the place I bought them from would have to ship them off with a turnaround of three weeks. The plastic part that holds the arm hinge in place had shattered when I knelt on my glasses. Frame Mender fixed it! Unless I look very closely, I can't even tell which side was repaired. Service was efficient. I chose the "while-you-wait" option for six dollars extra and popped out to one of many nearby cafes. They won't call or text you--you just check in when they tell you they'll be ready. The repair cost 65 dollars. I couldn't tell you if that's a good price, but it beats having to pay hundreds for a new set of frames. read more

These guys did an excellent job of repairing my beloved Oliver People's glasses after I accidentally stepped on them and broke one of the arms. They removed a little bit of the plastic and then did some welding of the metal underneath. It feels sturdy, time will tell. Turnaround was quick- 24 hours, cost $65 which was worth it to me. They also have good corona era procedures, they are masked up and will come out to your car to collect your glasses and then call you on the phone to handle the details. read more

I had to come in because my arms broke. The guy behind the counter, who also seems to be the technician, was real rude when I was dropping it off. He seemed busy and annoyed and got impatient as I talked to him (sighing heavily so you get an idea). Unfortunately they are one of the few, if not the only option in DC so you have to take it. He was fine when I picked it up and the job was ok. They do tell you they put in whatever parts they have available. And the guy was not rude this time. So maybe taking 3 stars out is a bit much. But I have little respect for businesses that take advantage of being one of the few options available by charging you a lot of money and on top of that being rude. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't want to be treated at stores like they treat people. Unfortunately, they can get away with it. It is what it is. Got something broken? They'll fix it. I lowered my VariStand desk on top of my Oakley Metal Plate prescription glasses and broke the frame. Luckily the lenses were not damaged. I took them to my optometrist's office to see if they could save them and they said they were damaged beyond their skillset. But they did recommend Frame Mender. The next day I went to FM, presented my mangled specs and was told "we can fix them no problem." The only question I was asked was when do you want them back today or tomorrow? I opted to spend the extra $6 for same day service and was told to come back in an hour. My glasses look brand new and they even cleaned the lens exceptionally well. I looked at purchasing new frames outside of insurance and FM was a lifesaver. I hope I don't need them again, but if I do it's a lifetime warranty. I only wish took before/after pics. read more

Do not go to The Frame Mender unless you want to be ripped off with botched repairs and horrible customer service from Brian and his team. I brought my glasses in on April 6th while visiting to DC to see if they could replace the worn nose pads on my much-loved Paul Smith glasses. Brian said they could do so by replacing the pad arms for $85 & verbally confirming my glasses would be delivered to me NYC within 1 week. I didn't receive my glasses for 4 weeks (even after calling and checking in), and I was horrified to see the new nose pad replacement: they added an uncomfortable and non-adjustable nose pad structure that is much lower and projects my glasses far away from my face. I submitted a refund request because 1) this was not the result I expected from our discussion and 2) the service time was 4X what was promised. I receive a highly condescending refusal back from them stating that only the "proper tools" are needed for adjustment and that they "thoroughly describe[d] the "repair"" to me. However, the opticians at LensCrafters in NYC confirmed they have never, ever seen glasses nosepad arms like this and that they were unable to make any adjustments given that the arms would break off. Terrible experience and I recommend avoiding The Frame Mender for any glasses repairs you might have. read more

The first repair of my silhouette frames several years ago was great. I couldn't tell which ear piece side has been repaired. The second time I paid full price because I wasn't sure if it was the same break or the other side. I just wanted them to screw back in the screws on the side of my glasses (nothing else) and they tried to charge me $50!!! $50 just to screw in two screws, what I rip off. Terrible place! Untrustworthy! Brian was rude and so unprofessional. His repair failed miserably. Instead of refunding my full $65, he refunded $55. My high-quality Titanium Silhouette eyeglass frame broke where the arm meets the front of the frame. I emailed clear photos. Brian insisted "Easy repair, we do it all the time." I mailed them from Massachusetts, packaged carefully, insured them. They arrived back to me in the SAME condition! Arm detached. Brian was nonplussed when I called. He dryly told me to ship them back and he'd look at them again. Really? I told Brian I'd paid $32 shipping and insurance. He said I'd have to pay full return cost again. I politely asked for a full $65 refund. Brian barely responded Yes and abruptly hung up on me. I hadn't even been argumentative. I was shocked. I'd done nothing wrong. The fault was all Brian and Frame Menders. He blamed the ineffective repair on me by stating I'd needed them back quickly. Really, Brian? You advertise QUICK repairs. Now I just learned nstead of refunding my $65, he refunded only $55. So, I'm out $42. A horrible, deceptive experience. What a huge scam Brian has going on. I really like these pair of glasses I bought years ago but the plastic recently snapped and the metal hinges on the side got all messed up from faulty screws that For Eyes put in for me, and instead of buying a new expensive pair of frames I took these into The Frame Mender and voila! For $76 ($6 for same day fixing - and mine took less than an hour) they're almost as good as new. They even changed out my eye pieces.
