I have to say that I was impressed with the Optometrist there. He is very thourough and listened to me with great concern. He went way out of his way to help dial in the exact contact prescription with what he thought was best according to my numbers and then what I thought worked best for me based on my photography and optics experience. We did discuss alternative surgeries and what to do based on my high prescription but for now I will stay with the contacts. The staff in the glasses and contacts department were all very friendly and easy to work with. Now all of this is based on my end of December 2014 and January 2015 experiences. When I first got there the first time the greeting person seemed a little stressed but then again I was not 100% prepared with the perfect answers needed to get my insurance going. Anyone dealing with insurances knows that everything has to be right before you can get paid so on her part I understand. The young lady who did the first preliminary exam before going to the optometrist was absolutely a delight to work with. Very friendly, listening and knowledgeable. We talked about her earlier trainings and how she ended up working at MyEyeDr and all was good. She never pushed me on their special optical camera exam (which I want but I did not have the extra money for (its not expensive but I just went through Christmas for five kids). They have a great value package with contacts and lenses but I did not need lenses as I rarely use them. It was nice to see a package deal with and actual discount and not some type of bait and switch tactic. This whole review started because my wife was asking me about going to an eye doctor and I highly recommended that she go to the Leland MyEyeDr. We were going to the Costco eye Dr. but it was always a shock on the eye / contact exam fees. I am sorry but when your eye exams are nearing $300 something is out of kilter. We do shop around and fortunately MyEyeDr worked my normal eye exam and my contacts exam to work with my insurance for a very minimum out of pocket experience. I think all in all I ended up with the full exam and a years worth of contacts for under $100.00 (my wife has decent insurance). I just can't talk enough about how well this office works for me. I was looking for an eye doctor and decided to give MyEyeDr a try. They were booked out 3mo. for an in-person doctor, and 1 mo. for a virtual appointment. I gave the virtual appointment a try, and it worked great. The technician completed all the test, which took approximately 30-45 mins, and then the doctor reviewed all the test and discussed via video conference. Afterwards, I selected my frames and my glasses came in a week later. If you're looking for a great experience, then I highly recommend that you give MyEyeDr a try! read more

Five years as a patient, and this is how it ends. I called this morning with an urgent concern -- eye pain, itchiness, possible foreign object. Instead of seeing me, they called back to say the doctor was busy and redirected me to Wilmington Eye and Swell Vision. Three other MyEyeDr locations in this city, and not one could find time for an established patient with an acute issue. The competition got me in. That tells you everything you need to know. Have been a patient since I moved here 20 years ago. today because I think I have an infection in both eyes and they can't see me till next Thursday late afternoon so a condition that's already going on for a week they won't see for another week. No longer any provisions for emergencies by next week maybe it'll clear up . Interestingly a patient with no particular trouble maybe even a new patient can make an appointment for Friday. I went there with a prescription from another eye doctor whose office strung me along for 6 weeks waiting for glasses to come in (someone forgot to send out the order and then the glasses came in sized for a baby!). The day my insurance approved that I could go elsewhere, I went to My Eye Doctor. The staff helped me choose a beautiful pair of eyeglasses that fit me perfectly. I have been wearing Silhouette frames for 20 years, so choosing regular frames was a big deal. After receiving my new glasses, I went back and ordered a pair of sunglasses with progressive lenses. When I couldn't adjust to the lower cost lenses in the sunglasses, they remade them at no extra charge but with the Varilux lenses. So accommodating! I highly recommend this office. read more

I have had great experiences with Dr. Ridgeway and Dr. Hayden. I typically see Dr. Ridgeway, but on a couple occasions I have seen Dr. Hayden after a corneal abrasion. CHECK YOUR BILL. They've got extremely shady and unlawful billing practices. I had an appointment for an annual exam, yet they did an unnecessary $95 scan without telling me it's not covered, and then billed my MEDICAL insurance for a treatment visit, instead of my VISION insurance for a preventative visit. So I had to pay the $50 copay. I fought and fought and fought them. They eventually took off the $95 scan. I continued to fight them about the $50 copay, since it should've been no charge to me, as a preventative visit. They only re-ran the claim and refunded me after 7 MONTHS of fighting. I think they only did it because I reported them for fraud. They need to be audited. I bet several employees belong in jail. Don't go here. read more

My wife had an appointment scheduled for 8 o'clock this morning due to a traffic accident. She was late. She then called store location and said she was gonna be about five minutes late. She arrived at 8:08. They would not accept her appointment. her she reschedule. I had an appointment at the same location a month ago at 8:15. I arrived at 8 o'clock. I sat there until 915 before I was able to my appointment. There are 3 young ladies that work the front dest. They are very rude and does not look like they know what they are doing. I would never go back to this location nor would i recommend this anyone. The policy I read was anywhere from 10 to 15 minutes being late they could cancel your appointment but not eight minutes. Come on now they to have a little bit of authority and that's what they did. They took advantage of it this place, and the people that work the dest upfront are useless! read more

Yesterday I went to MyEyeDr at 5pm because I had a contact in my eye that I couldn't remove. I saw Dr Deborah Hayden. I must tell you that she is the BEST doctor I've yet to go to. After she removed the contact I had questions that I just needed to ask about having contacts and if I was a good candidate to wear them. She went through all my alternatives, addressed my concerns about my dry eyes and she was so caring and understanding. She ordered 2 different sets to try. She didn't act like she was in a hurry and it was close to closing when I left. They had to unlock the doors to let me out. Why am I telling you this? Because if she'd leave I wouldn't go back to My Eye Doctor in Leland. Book an appointment with her. You won't be sorry. read more

Don't go here. I went to my eye Dr back in 2020 with my father and got my prescription and my glasses for a very good price , and I had my own insurance. 2021 came around and it was time for new glasses. I went to my eye Dr by myself this time with the same insurance and picked through many frames until I found the perfect ones. When I sat down to talk about the prices for everything they said it was going to be $500 which is ridiculously more than what I paid in 2020. I told them that I would just come back because I didn't not have that sort of money right now. They told me to hold on and came back and lowered the price to $450 which I said is still to much and that I would come back. This happened about 3 more times until the price was down to $150. In my head I'm thinking if you can give them to me for $150 now why were you trying to charge me $500 in the first place? I left and never went back. I might be young but I'm not stupid. read more

The staff was efficient and brisk as I have come to expect from Doctor's offices and the Doctor was very efficient and brisk as I was hustled through the process without any explanation as to what was happening. But the exam was perfect and one of the best prescription I've had in a long time for my vision. It you want to be treated nice you should go some where else, but the results are worth it. I give this location, and specifically, Ashley, the store manager 5 stars for the way she handled my complaint. I bought progressive lenses that did not work for me and gave me headaches. Without getting into all the details let's just say I was not very happy. When I returned to the store to voice my complaint.I was initially told that because the lenses were custom they could not credit my credit card but rather they would give me a store credit. This did not sit well. To make a long story short, I spoke with Ashley today and despite my less than congenial tone (I was rude) Ashley calmed me down and went through the process they go through with each customer to be sure everyone gets what they need. I hung up the phone thinking I wish I had managers like Ashley when I owned my businesses. She is 5 star. read more

Just had a poor experience with MyEye Dr. in Leland. It will be my last. I showed up 10 minutes early for my 1:30 p.m. appt. and they inform me that they had canceled my appt. I rec'd no phone call, voice message, text or email about this turn of events. They have all my contact information. It was as if I was expected to just go with the flow and reschedule for another day. I was pissed because I had arranged time away from my work to make this appt. Had they called, texted or even emailed me that morning, I would have had at least some opportunity to have made other work arrangements. When they saw I was pissed. A staffer asked if could come back for a 3 p.m. appt. I said I'd be back at 3. I came back approx. 10 minutes in front of the 3 p.m. appt. time. I didn't get to see anyone about my appt. until it was just past 3:30 p.m. A practitioner looked at some papers and then asked me to confirm that I was there for a routine eye exam, to which I responded, somewhat incredulously, No. I then told the practitioner that the staffer with whom I booked the appt. on the phone was specifically told that I was coming for both an exam and also a contact consultation and possible fitting. (By the way, this appt. started w/ an email reminder they had sent to me reminding me that it was time to make an appt.) The practitioner was clearly not provided the correct information about my appt. She did apologize for the scheduling issues (though she said my appt. was for 3:15 p.m. or some such nonsense. Where she got that info is beyond me.) She then started to explain how she wasn't aware of what events had happened "up front in the office," or that perhaps that there was some kind of corporate mistake. Many assumptions were made about a host of issues that surrounded my knowledge of the contacts, costs, usage, the breakdown of my bill, my new glass lens prescription, my readers, etc. I felt rushed and hurried throughout the appointment all the way through to checkout. The kicker -- although they give you a date when your new prescription lens' for your new glasses will arrive, they tell you that they cannot, with any degree of certainty, actually meet that date. At least they are upfront about it. The doc was fine, but also seemed rushed and in a hurry to move me along. I'm done with this MyEyeDr. group. I can get treated like I'm in fast food joint at a thousand places. I don't need my eye doctor to be just another McDonald's. So, in the not too distant future, I will be hooking up w/ a new eye healthcare practice. My eyes deserve better. *I gave them a single star because they did a nice job of observing and exercising COVID-19 safety measures. read more

Last year, I had to change Eye Doctors based on insurance change. I was very skeptical because I have tumors in my eyes and had been with my previous eye doctor for many years. I loved the staff when we went last year, recommended everyone I knew and raved about the doctor and staff. The selection of eyeglasses was amazing. I had many issues but they always treated me with respect and assisted me with whatever came along. We got notice in December that MyEyeDr was "moving in". I tried to be optimistic even when I realized that Doctors Vision also merged too, and wasn't too fond of experiences with them. We scheduled with our regular doctor - although it took a while to get an appointment, I felt it would be worth it. Boy, I couldn't have been more wrong. They were running 40 minutes behind which didn't help the start of things. No communication of this when checked in, no touching base to apologize, nothing. Based on our insurance, we have a selection of frames that are at no cost. The way they explained it was we could shop from "THAT turnstile" and that's all our insurance would cover...seeming to imply that was our only choices. The delivery of their explanation was humiliating and didn't make me feel like a valued patient what so ever. It could have been explained with much more tact and not making us feel devalued in front of an office full of people. Last year, when it came time for the glasses, we weren't pointed to one small turnabout...they asked specifically what we were looking for - gave us prices and we went from there. I feel like this time it was all just about money and no much about the patient. This really surprised me because several family members had raved about how great they were in emergency situations. Services were not up to par and if they were running that far behind...a courtesy call to patients would have been nice to let them be aware and choose whether to wait for that unacceptable amount of time. There were things that were ALWAYS handled and completed during all routine exams in the past that were not this time. I do not plan to return to this location....I will drive past it and an additional 20 minutes to get the service our family deserves. In addition to the personal experience. I feel their selection of glasses was extremely limited and not much to choose from unless there were more available than what were displayed (which to emphasize the situation, felt like they "were hands off to us anyway"). I'm saddened that a merger took away a place that I truly liked prior. read more

The optometrist was great. But the eyeglass section is not and the company policies are not customer friendly. I purchased Nine West eyeglasses and the paint on the front chipped. I bore with it for awhile (I had them over a year) then asked about replacing or repairing them. They were discontinued. After back and forth, the staff found another pair at another My Eye Doctor location. I paid for the new pair and had my lenses put in. 7 months later the new frames chipped. I returned to the Leland office and they had no option other than buying new frames at a discount. My frames (under a year old) were not under warranty. Guess I was supposed to buy a warranty on brand-new eyeglass frames! So I purchased two eyeglass frames in two years without a change in my prescription and they don't backup their product. I will not return to MyEyeDoctor. There are good alternatives with good customer service. read more

I went to MyEyeDr about 2 months ago. Lady at the desk was short and snippy when I asked questions. The Dr was very nice! Picked out frames and lense. When they came back I couldn't see two feet in front of me. I was told it was because one pupil was lower than the other and that they needed to measure the lense again, which they did. Two weeks later the glasses are back again, again I couldn't see two feet in front of my face. I was told that basically the prescription being wrong was on me, that when I was asked better or worse that was me picking my prescription. Really!!! So I managed to get them to reimburse me for the frames and lense, but they have yet to reimburse my insurance for the eye exam... which was useless!! So now I'm unable to go to an eye dr to get a correct prescription. Will never ever go back to Leland NC office, I wish I had read all of the reviews before I went. read more

Update: I was back today to return the progressive lens glasses I got, because I just wasn't happy with them. I had absolutely no problem returning the glasses I've had for over two weeks now, but was happily helped to pick out exactly what I wanted, and even offered a refund of the difference from my original purchase! This place is awesome. The people are really great to deal with, and I only wish every medical practice in this area listened to their patients as well. Ashley in the optical department was super with assisting me to pick out exactly what I wanted in new eye ware.
