I have been a patient of Dr. Treece for almost 2 1/2 years now…read more I first visited Dr. Treece at the suggestion of a friend in my neighborhood who used to work with her until her retirement. I think if you ask her, Dr. Treece might tell you that my case was one of the most difficult she has ever been involved with. I had been suffering with terrible vision that was barely sufficient for a driver's license, even with eye glasses, for over 20 years after having multiple PRK and LASIK procedures that ruined my vision rather than correct it. Those procedures left my corneas in such bad shape that glasses and conventional contact lenses could not provide adequate vision. The poor vision caused difficulties in driving, watching TV and movies, and enjoying life in general. I had long ago given up hope of ever being able to see well again. Dr. Treece recommended and prescribed scleral contacts lenses for me . The successful outcome of these types of lenses depends on a precise fit, and as she will tell you up front they may require several fittings for them to provide the optimal performance. That was the the way it was in my case. And I'm glad that she is determined to get her patients the best vision possible. When I say that Dr. Treece has made a dramatic improvement in my quality of life I'm not exaggerating. If you or anyone you know has been suffering with sub-par vision after vision correction surgery, or for any other reason for that matter, and have been told there is little that can be done about it I suggest you schedule an appointment with Dr. Treece at Cape Fear Eye Institute. I am very thankful for the eye care I have received from Dr. Treece and for my neighbor who presented my situation to her for her opinion.

They have also failed to bill my insurance twice now. I go for an exam and later I come in to pick up my contact lenses only to be told that I owe them a substantial amount of money. Now I've been a client/patient at this practice for several years, so they have my information on file. Even if they did not, they should have asked for my insurance information rather than simply demanding payment as if I was uninsured. And they have done this twice.

Recently, I went to The Eye Center, 3500 Oleander Drive, Wilmington, NC, for a standard eye…read moreexam/contact fitting. The message on my voice mail confirming the appointment stated that my portion would be $39. Upon arrival, my out of pocket was increased to $59. When the exam was finished, I was required to pay $185. I was advised that Dr. Wallent decided that I needed a medical exam which was not covered by my Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance. I have never had a medical problem with my eyes nor was I advised that the fee would increase dramatically. Back in Ohio where I am from looking at the health of the eyes was a standard part of the eye exam which was covered in full by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Ohio. During my time as Director of Investigations for the Summit County Prosecutors Office in Ohio, we worked on insurance fraud cases regularly, so I am familiar with the form and structure of how they work. This particular type of overcharge is a classic example of "Bait and Switch". A truly insidious example of ripping off the consumer. My plans are to file complaints with Medicare, Blue Cross Blue Shield of NC, and the The North Carolina State Board of Examiners in Optometry. I look forward to these various agencies looking closely at the billing practices of The Eye Center where they may find thousands of cases of over billing, insurance fraud and Criminal Theft by Deception. I would not recommend The Eye Center under any circumstances. This review will also be posted on Google and Yelp.

From the front office staff to the assistant and Dr, everyone was friendly. They listened to my concerns about my eyes. After testing my vision he didn't recommend me for glasses "just to get a sale." He told me that my eyes were fine but if I'd like a clearer vision, ordering glasses are optional. I appreciate his honesty vs insisting that new glasses were a priority. I also brought my 4 year old son to have a routine eye exam and the staff members were extremely patient and kind. It's always nice knowing that you're valued as a patient/ customer and I will definitely be recommending their office to my friends and family.

He explained my eye test results carefully and in a way I readily understood. His quality of care is most admirable, and I'll ask for him specifically when I go back. The quality of care which Dr. Taylor gives is unmatched. The entire office is clean & centrally located; the staff is helpful and friendly, and I didn't need to wait long at all. Bottom line: I highly recommend Dr. Taylor at Atlantic Vision Center and am extremely pleased with the care I received from him.

I got to the appointment and…read morethey complained that I had a late appointment for it being my first time wearing contacts (they chose the time and knew it was my first time) After the exam, I was trying to put on the contacts, the staff kept looking at their watch and shutting off lights. I had trouble putting my contacts in (probably because I felt rushed) so they said they could not provide me with a prescription but I would need to pay for the next visit today so I could come back and try again. I explained that I don't know when I would have another time to come back since I just started a new job. I asked if I could just pay for the eye exam and not the contacts so I could reevaluate my decision to get contacts. She said that I would have to pay for the trial lense as well as my next appointment which is ridiculous. I will be working with my insurance company to get my benefits/money refunded for this horrible experience.

My eye care professional retired, so I began the search for one who accepted my insurance. Dr. Jeffrey Coleman does accept Spectera, and his office is just around the corner from my house. The space is a quaint, nicely decorated place with a very friendly and gracious front desk lady. The eye technician initiated my exam, and I anticipated the dreaded eye dilation. But, this office offers a dilation free modality which photographs your eyes drop free. No more hazardous drives home or to work after the exam! The eye technician was very professional when conducting my reading of the eye chart and my glaucoma exam. Dr. Coleman was personable and a very good educator, showing me an enlarged photo of my eye and explaining what he was looking for in the way of eye health. By the way, I passed my exam. I would 100% recommend this practice.

He was persistent over the past year in searching for the cause of my worsening left‑eye vision. He referred me to three eye specialists--a cataract specialist, a retina specialist, and finally a cornea specialist, who ordered a brain MRI. The MRI revealed a tumor pressing on my optic chiasm, which was responsible for my vision problems. I had the tumor removed a couple of months ago, and because Dr. Craig cares deeply about his patients and pursued every lead, I would never have discovered the brain tumor otherwise. I am still healing, but thanks to Dr. Craig, he will always be my hero!

The staff there was amazing. Front desk charmers offered a variety of drinks while Shelby fixed my sunglasses. She said it was a quick fix and it was. I was given an eyeglass case, cleaner, and a tote bag. Amazing! When I need new glasses or an exam, I will make a beeline here. Swell has been open 8 years and I never noticed it. Spread the word.
