Never occurred to me that a retail optician would be closed at 5 pm M_F and on completely closed on saturday, so i went on saturday. (travel time one hour!). picked up days later at 830 am on a weekday, delaying arrival to work by also an hour. then glasses made very wrong-- total failure to include the 2.5 prism in each lens, causing me to see double while driving, rather dangerous. obviously didnt bother to check prescription on the lenses before giving to me. Brought them back a few days later (while wearing old ones) when i could manage to get there when they were open, verified by checking lens (30 second task) . sent them to remake. then lost them in transit. finally got them again. inside of a week, one lens fell out while working quietly at desk. i put it back in, seated it properly, tightened both screws very tightly. two days later, same lens fell out while i was biking. same day the other lens fell out. inserted both properly, seated clearly in the groves. switched to old glasses again. took them back (another hour travel!). was told that i just didnt seat them properly (i had, they managed to unseat themselves in 24 hours) asked for refund. will see if i actually get it so: 2 months, 6 trips, hours wasted in travel time and work vacation time AND no glasses. Back to Visionworks in Rockville, MD lousy parking, but at least their glasses work.

I made an appointment online. arrived on time to be told I had no appointment. the receptionist…read moresaid "sometimes it doesn't work to make an appointment online". If they know that, why didn't they fix it or remove that function on their web site. I won't be going back.

I'm an OIF combat veteran from the younger generation of veterans the VA seems to overlook,…read morecompared to older veterans. Over the past week, I've gone to the ER three separate times because I was feeling lightheaded and on the verge of passing out. I live alone, so I was genuinely concerned and wanted to be around medical professionals in case something serious happened. Each time, I tried to explain potential triggers--like foods I'd eaten, medications, or supplements I'd taken--but I felt treated like a second-class citizen. I had to repeatedly press the call button just to get someone to check on me. As a former combat medic, I was shocked by the complete lack of routine patient checks or "roving" rounds by nurses. I literally had to walk the staff through how to help me. It's no wonder some combat veterans reach a breaking point and take drastic action, like the veteran who recently made headlines by taking his life in front of a VA hospital. One nurse--who had visible tattoos and a nose ring--eventually apologized for the staff not checking in more often. I understand that in 2025, tattoos and facial piercings are common and accepted even in medical settings, but the overall decline in professionalism and care still blows my mind. During initial intake, an older nurse took my vital signs. I kept bringing up possible causes for my symptoms (medications, foods, reactions), but she seemed dismissive--almost annoyed--and barely paid attention. I could read the lack of interest all over her face. The more I reflect on these experiences, the more determined I am to report them to leadership outside the VA system. I recently moved here from Illinois, where I'd heard great things about this particular VA hospital. I was far from impressed. The one bright spot was a nurse who wheeled me for a chest X-ray and made small talk. She mentioned another veteran who had advised "changing your socks and staying hydrated," but she admitted she had no idea what that meant in a military context. As a former Marine Corps combat medic, I explained the reference--to prevent trench foot and maintain basic field hygiene. It's disheartening that a VA hospital, which is supposed to be uniquely attuned to veterans' needs and experiences, feels so detached from the military culture we come from.
