Discrimination, lack of empathy, and completely unacceptable care Today, my son, who has Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and I experienced one of the worst healthcare experiences we have ever had. From the moment we arrived, we were treated with hostility. The first thing I was told was that my appointment had been canceled because I supposedly failed to confirm it. However, I never received a phone call, email, or text message asking me to confirm my appointment. Ironically, they did send a confirmation for my son's appointment. Despite that, I was blamed and my appointment was canceled. After that, we were left waiting much longer than expected for my son's appointment. I explained several times that my son has autism and that long waits are very difficult for him. No one seemed to care. When they finally called him in for his eye imaging, I explained to the technician that my son has autism and kindly asked her to be patient with him. She didn't even acknowledge what I said. She immediately started giving him abrupt commands: "Sit down," "Open your eyes," "Put your chin here." My son was already visibly anxious, and I was doing everything I could to help him stay calm and cooperate. At the next machine, the technician suddenly pushed the equipment toward him. He became frightened and started crying. Once again, I explained that he has autism and asked her to please be patient and gentle. Instead of showing any understanding, she abruptly got up, walked out of the room, and returned a few minutes later only to say, "Go out and wait in the lobby." I asked why, how long we would have to wait, and what was happening. Her response was simply, "I don't know... maybe 20 or 30 minutes." There was no explanation, no communication, and no attempt to continue the exam. We were simply told to leave the room. While my son sat there crying, scared and confused, no one came to explain anything or check on us. I decided to speak with the office manager. Before she even allowed me to explain what had happened, she angrily told me that I had arrived ten minutes late and had failed to confirm my appointment, as if that somehow justified the way my son was being treated. I explained that this had nothing to do with my appointment. My concern was the way my son was being treated. I told her I felt we were being discriminated against because of his disability and that they seemed unwilling to continue his examination after learning he has autism. She showed no interest in listening or helping. The most heartbreaking part of this experience was hearing my son apologize for being scared and crying during the exam. No child with autism should ever feel the need to apologize for being afraid. Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder deserve patience, understanding, respectful communication, and reasonable accommodations--not indifference, impatience, or dismissive treatment. We received no empathy, no compassion, no professionalism, and no respect. I sincerely hope this office provides proper training to its staff on how to care for patients with disabilities and neurodivergent individuals. No family should ever have to go through such a humiliating experience. Zero empathy. Zero compassion. Zero professionalism. Completely unacceptable. read more

Went in for a annual exam (just the prescription). No hassle in getting my prescription that same day even though I wasn't purchasing frames there. I appreciate the updated technology that they have, considering that I've been to some offices that have limited technology (having high astigmatism) thus requiring older methods that could be subject to not-so-accurate prescriptions. read more

I had an appointment yesterday at the Virginia Potomac Mills location. The appointment went well, great customer service, etc... However, it was sweltering in the office. While there were 2 large portable air units, they were bombarded by customers trying to cool off. Thus the other customers suffered from the lack of air. I complained to the staff and was told that this is an ongoing problem with no resolution in site. THAT IS UNACCEPTABLE. Several customers complained to the staff, but there was nothing that could be done. I was forced to wait in my car with the air running to cool off. If this is the level of service that I can expect from MyEyeDr I will no longer be returning. GET A PERMANENT SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM. read more

I love Dr.Siddiq! I needed a last minute medical exam and she was able to squeeze me in despite her very diligent schedule. My eyes almost felt instantly relieved and I recommend her going forward. Went in today for an eye exam to get some new contacts and Dr.Patel was very kind. She was very detailed of each part of the exam she preformed. Also, I can't forget to mention Jasmine (hope I'm spelling it correctly) who had the best customer service. She made sure I was good from start to finish. She came to the desk while I was putting in my order and caught a pricing error (not on her part), which saved me a lot of money. Can't thank her enough for that! My Eye Dr. Sucks. They do not practice social distance yet they go through the motion. For instance, when you come in and walk all the way to the counter, only then someone would approach you and have you go all the way back to the door to take your temperature. They have too many customers and employees in their space during this COVID epidemic. They are too aggressive, dishonest, and do not have any training in adjusting eye glasses. I went there first about two weeks ago to verify that a doctor that I was seeing at JCP was now working there. She was now there so I made an appointment. I asked if someone can change my glasses' pads. The employee took my glasses and came back and told me that they did not have the designer type and that he used his own. When I came for my appointment on Wednesday last week, I asked again, this time a different employee attempted to change the nose pads. I heard her ask for assistance. She returned and gave me the glasses. She then tried to get me to select a new pair. I had already been there for a long time and I was tired. I told her I would come back and asked for my prescription. I later learned she did not give it to me. Although I called and asked for it, they never sent me the email consent that they told me to expect. A few days later, April 17th, one nose pad was digging into my nose. When I examined them, I saw that only one nose pad was changed. When I retuned to complain, the manger only asked if I wanted to change it. He did not care to know who had behaved so unethical. My Eye Doctor lost a customer for life although I really like the doctor. read more

The Woodbridge, VA location is convenient, and they offer a wide selection of eyewear to choose from. However, the front desk staff are very unwelcoming. They need to improve upon the scheduling process. I showed up ahead of time for my annual appointment only to be told that "my appointment time had been given to someone else" because I did not confirm my appointment in a timely manner. I had been moved to "overflow". Despite showing the service representative my email confirming the appointment. No apology was given. I was offered a virtual appointment (for an eye exam) which would have required additional wait time. I called to reschedule my appointment and explained my earlier experience. I was advised that although I received email confirmation of the appointment it is not guaranteed until I receive a call "to confirm" the appointment. Which I never received. I did not get the doctor I booked online but did not know that until I got there. Although the Optometrist (from the Ashburn, VA location) was extremely nice and professional. i don't usually like to leave negative reviews but i have to say something about this location. if i could give them zero stars i would. i went here months ago for an annual check up. the doctor was great but im not sure whats going on with the rest of the staff. i wanted to order a specific type of frame and it wasn't available at this location but it was available in the ballston location. the man who "assisted" me - walter - said that he would reach out to them to have the frames sent over to woodbridge. i never got any follow up. i gave up after months of not hearing back. then instead of getting new frames i figured i would just replace the lenses in my current ones. so i went in on dec 3 and ordered new lenses. i never received any kind of follow up or communication on these lenses that i just paid $200+ for. i had to call back myself three weeks later for them to tell me their system shows that they notified me on december 7. i have no text message, no call, no voicemail, no email, so please tell me how i was notified? they said there was no email on file but im pretty sure i included my email when filling out intake forms. why should i be the one constantly following up when i am PAYING for service? shouldn't you guys be the ones concerned about lenses that have been sitting there for three weeks and wonder... why are they still here? this place is a mess. and the young man that's there is unprofessional and does not follow up with clients. i wish i could get my money back and spend it on glasses elsewhere. what a waste of my money. i will never be coming back. update: i called back to request a refund and they obliged. that's the one good thing that came from all of this. read more

If there was a zero rating I would have selected it. This business location has gone down the drain. I have been there customer for last 5 years but no more. I went in with my daughter to get our annual check in and being 10 mins late I was told by on of the employee that I had to reschedule and they can only see my daughter. However, later doctor did see me. They know that I am about to spend over $1200 for both of our needs. Anyhow, contact lenses for my daughter was a complete fiasco at this store. They had to order them from the manufacturer which is fine. Once they ordered them they were delivered to us with wrong prescription and we were told that manufacturer made a mistake. We ordered another one but I was told I had to pay shipping which I complained and finally they agreed to not charge me for shipping. I was told it will take weeks to get these lenses and I was fine with that. Yesterday we got a voicemail that lenses are at the location since they cannot ship it to my address I had to make an additional trip for it. Upon arriving at the store same person who dealt with us the 1st time was sitting and had told us that lenses were not at the store. We had to let her listen to voice that someone from store left us. At that point she finally moved and bothered to look for them and found them in the store. A complete disastrous store and management. All of my family went to this store for our needs. But no more my wife also needs her yearly exam and we both agreed to abundant this store. I would not recommend this store at all to anyone sane who wants to get their eye exams and prescription. I wish I had looked at one stars before going back to them, could have saved some heart burn. read more

Made my appointment last week, showed up 5min early check in was fast and easy and I was taken back for my appointment on time. Dr Patel was an absolute sweetheart and even went over items in my chart from a visit many many years ago. She gave me peace of mind I didn't even know I needed! The office was extremely busy, of course it's December and every last minute person-- such as myself is trying to get in so they don't lose their benefits at the end of the year. I do wish this office was better about scheduling employees in December even during the week, if you are seeing patients every 15minutes you should have more sales people. [Minus one star for bad staffing] However Maria handled it all with absolute grace. Even as I'm waiting to be helped and she's got a stack of 3 patients before me she still didn't let any of the irate patients grumbling under their breaths get to her. I came here for the first time last week. The nurses were kind and my eye doctor made me feel very comfortable. The male nurse who helped me had explained the breakdown of the prices and even went above and beyond to help me find frames that best fit my face! The optometrists here are fabulous, so lets get that out of the way first. I have been coming here for a few years to see Dr. Santos. He is the real deal, he knows his stuff and gets you in and out for your exam. But he alone cannot save this place. Everything else is where it goes downhill. The ladies at the front desk in the back of the store are ok. Sometimes disorganized but still okay and very pleasant. The clincher is when it is time to sit at one of the middle sections as they go over your benefits with you. Trust me when I tell you, make sure you know what you are eligible for before you go into the store. I say that because the young man who helped me when I asked him to explain what my benefits covered, which I was already fully aware of, he told me it depends on it I want glasses or contacts. So I asked him to give me both, he then did the rudest thing possible and said " you need to decide which one you want and I can let you know, I am not going to waste my time telling you both if you are going to do one over the other." Excuse me? I am the customer and if I ask you to explain them both to me, then that is what you should do. I told him well I have time so lets waste yours. He got really irritated but hey, I wasn't phased. Had it just explained it ahead of time then we would not have been at the crossroad we found ourselves at. Long story short, I only got contacts from here and decided to go elsewhere for my glasses. The contacts were delivered to my house about a week later but only because I got a year supply. If you do anything less than a year which is what he automatically tried to tell me was the only option, which it is not, you will have to go back into the store to pick them up. That was a good hard no for me. If Dr. Santos was not at this location, I would never ever ever ever set foot in here again. read more

When I asked when we should expect to be seen, the front desk attendant LITERALLY rolled her eyes at me and said that we'd be seen when the doctor is available. Well, duh, but when will that happen? I have used this location (Woodbridge, VA) for many years. The Eye Exams have always been outstanding! The eyeglass purchase used to be but not today. I wish the gentleman who used to work there (forgot his name) was still there or maybe he had a day off? He was superb! However, the woman I dealt with on the phone was far from average, like really below. Her demeanor was horrible and she estimated my glasses wouldn't be in for weeks? Sounds like they were "forgotten" because my spouse's glasses were ready today! Like I said, I have bever had this happen in all the years before but what really torqued me was the attitude of the employee I had to deal with on the phone! I'm currently looking for another place to go to. Possibly the military exchange system. They may be slow but at least I will deal with decent people! Does the Manager even read these reviews? My daughter and I went into this establishment to look for glasses for her. There were 2 ladies at the front desk as soon as you entered and 3 ladies at the reception desk. My daughter and I went around the whole store, and not 1 person greeted us or acknowledged our presence or asked if we needed assistance. I'm not certain why there's so many bad reviews. I'm always greeted and serviced in a respectful amount of time. It maybe because I'm lucky that every time I arrive I always seem to get Chau. He's very attentive and always helps me pick the perfect frame that matches me. It must be from his Aloha spirit. I've been going here for about 6 years because this place knows how to treat people. Can't see myself going anywhere else as long as I'm near this area. Chau makes going to this location feel more like a visit catching up with family. If you're second guessing due to the bad reviews, I say it's worth a try. It took me going here for 6 years to post a positive review. The office manager, Kiki Dixon was rude and blamed me as the customer telling me I would have to wait hoping for someone to cancel. I had an appointment at this location for the first time the other day, either end of January or early February. I was going to be about 12 minutes late, and was not aware of their late policy, so I tried to call to ask if this would be okay- 45 minutes before the appointment time. It takes me almost an hour to get there. There was no answer, so I left a message stating to please call me back if coming in late was not okay, otherwise I would be on my way. Left my number twice. I received no call back for the entire trip, but upon arrival was told I'd have to reschedule. I understand these things, but when I asked if my message was received / why I wasn't called back to be informed of the late policy before using 60 miles of gas, the receptionist actually laughed and said she didn't know if they even had a voicemail, and that she'd never actually checked it. I repeated back to her what she said in disbelief and she just smiled and shrugged. Neither of the other two receptionists apparently knew how to check their VM either. These people are holding our personal medical records and I just do not feel safe with that information in those hands. Go somewhere else. read more

This place is alright. I went to place a glasses order and I waiting up until after closing to be attended. It took a while for the lady to get all my info and put it in the computer. Other customers didn't hesitate to leave because the wait was extremely long. Anyways 2 weeks later I have to go back because my info wasn't put into the computer correctly so now, in total I waited a little over a month for my glasses. He even broke down my insurance and payment options with me and had the patience for me to go to the bank and I couldn't thank him or this office enough. I hope to speak with you again Chau. The Optometrist Dr. Patel is very patient genuine and thorough- she waited for me to put my contacts in and although I was nervous I'd take too long she reassured me I had enough time and resonated her initial experiences using contacts with me. And the tech was sincere and gave me great tips for the pressure machine that my eyes absolutely dread- I wish I could give her credit by her first name. This was a seamless well executed professional visit and I couldn't thank this team enough for their expertise and knowledge as well as very nurturing personalities. Yes, upon entrance It seems a bit unorganized when all staff is busy- however there is more that meets the eye and these people are absolutely the key to a successful office. Your work does not go unnoticed. Thank you all who participated in my care today. I truly believe this visit was one of the best- and it's very rare to find such seamless, cohesive care. I have called many times and every time they tell me they're going to ship them but then I never receive tracking information like they said I would. This location of My Eye Dr. gives me anxiety. I've always had pretty low key optometrist visits, but walking into this location is like walking into an understaffed urgent care on the 4th of July. Upon arriving, I was greeted by one of the ladies at the counter. Everyone was very happy to help and positive with their interactions, but the place was packed! The 10 or so waiting chairs were full, people were sitting down with salesmen at small desks all over the store, and some families were parked with small children in the hallway! I was trying to figure out why it was so crazy, but I wasn't able to come up with a reasonable explanation. I didn't wait long for my pre-exam screening and the exam followed shortly after. Again, the Dr. was very kind, personable, and knowledgeable! I loved the experience- but then I had to leave the exam room again. Trying to get checked out was unfortunate, because everyone was so busy. One of the ladies at the front desk ended up taking care of me, which was awesome. I watched her click, print, sign, and work in what can only be described as a happy panic. I felt bad about it- like she had other stuff to do but she wanted to be on top of it and help me. Overall, the service aspect was 5 stars. The overcrowded chaos brought my rating down to a 3. The poor people working here need more staff! read more

My second visit to this location in 3 years, as with my previous, staff was wonderful. I used a groupon, the lady at the front desk was new and didn't know exactly how to use it, but she and I worked together and got it done. I waited maybe 10 minutes before being seen, Dr Santos was quick, efficient and friendly, just as he was last time, not to mention entertaining. The whole experience was less than 40 minutes start to finish, including the time I spent picking out my frames. I couldn't be more pleased, and I will definitely go back there next time. read more

I am a self pay patient because I have no vision insurance. I made sure to ask the price I would pay on my visit when I confirmed my appointment. I was told $99 dollars. I said ok perfect. See you tomorrow. I went to my appointment today. The doctor said my prescription hasn't changed and I was in there a total of 10 minutes. When I went out to pay I was first told it would be $440 dollars. I explained to the woman I was told it would be $99 when I confirmed my appointment. Another lady came over the help her and said ok it's going to be $215. I was given two different prices from the original prices. I have been coming to this location since I was 14 and this shouldn't have been a difficult question to answer when I booked the appointment to know prices set for self pay patients. read more

This places has HORRIBLE customer service. I came here because my insurance is in network. The first pair of glasses I got were terrible. I was lied to about the thickness of lens. paid for transitions did not get. It took over 2 weeks to get them. The boy Chris gave them to me without even looking at the glasses first. The nose pieces were all bent up. Had to make him keep working on them until they sat on my face correctly. He acted as he was put out to even fix them. Never checked the way the glasses sat on my ears. The glasses were painfully heavy on me face and nose. Gave me headaches Went back to return them. I was told the frames were to big for my face. The guy placed my glasses on the counter and the were so lopsided. So I picked out new frames. Waited another 2 weeks. Again when I went to pick up my glasses the girl never looked at them. When I got into my car I took them off to check the transition. When I noticed the lenses up by the frame was cracked and chipped. I am now very upset. I walk back into the store. Spoke with Amanda who wanted to blame me. First question was how long have you had them? I'm like are you serious! I just walked out with them. SECONDS ago!. I tried to explain to her what I've already been through. She could have cared less. Said she would order new lens but that's it. Absolutely refused to do anything about all I've been through. PLEASE even if they take your insurance RUN to another or any other place! BUYER BE WARE! read more

They ask you to "Embrace the MyEyeDr. difference." I now concur that not all of their optometrists are cut from the same cloth so there is a huge difference! My entire family has been going to this location for 4 years and I have to say that Dr. Patel is wonderful - patient, knowledgeable and genuine. Last month, we had the misfortune to be scheduled for a consultation with a lady named Nicole Salomone. She was arrogant, talked over us and completely ignored our concerns. She made it clear that she had better things to do than answer our silly questions and made zero eye contact as she tapped away on her refurbished iPad. It was unbelievable! I have specifically requested that she be avoided for our subsequent appointments. You'd think someone that works at a strip mall would have more humility.....but guess not. read more
