Haven't been here in ages but I remembered they're open late, had an extensive menu, and we needed a late-night dinner. It definitely hit the spot tonight! Ordered the ground pork with scallion oil noodle soup (can't remember the actual name for it), fried chicken nuggets w/ rice combo, honey garlic w/ rice combo, and spicy TBN. Everything tasted delicious! We got seated right away (table for 4) on a Saturday evening around 9:45pm. Even found easy parking in the lot adjacent to the complex. Quick and attentive staff. They also have a button to press to buzz your server so you don't have to waive them towards your table. Our kids also commented on how nice and thick their napkins are. LOL! Quick tips: paying by CC will be a surcharge of 2%. There's a $0.25 charge for to-go containers but to-go cups (for your unfinished BBT) are free. read more

I used to have a dinner at Myst many times a few years ago. I haven't visited here for a while. Since they introduced new menu, we decided to visit here again. What we ordered: Taiwanese salty peppery chicken nugget, Braised Pork belly rice Lamb hot pot. Taiwanese salty peppery chicken was very good as usual. It was nicely seasoned, crispy on the outside, and juicy and tender inside. Highly recommend this item. Braise Pork belly rice was also excellent. Pork belly was very flavorful, tender, really melting in your mouth. The sauce on the rice was also so good. Another recommended item. Lamb hot pot also very delicious . Soup's flavor was strong and rich. Meats and vegetable were perfectly cooked, so soft and flavorful. Overall, we really enjoyed revisiting MYST. Had takeaway as I was in a rush and had to be on a call, so I had the first 5 bites in the car. Ordered squid tentacles and a beef stir fry. Considering I ordered in the parking lot while I worked and picked it up. The food was quite sad tbh. The service could be improved too. I asked for chopsticks and I had to do a double take with the server as the server taught me to select the cutlery option next time (mind you, they were not in a rush/there were barely anyone in the restaurant and I clearly hear them just chilling the x minutes I was waiting for my food in the lobby). There was no care in packaging the fried food, it was piping hot steaming fully enclosed- resulting to sogginess (is this not a basic in cooking/packing to cut some holes or leave a flap open so the food doesn't go soggy?) The beef stir fry lacked much stir fry flavours and clearly was just using dark soy and plain msg, missing the light soy for saltiness- very evident. Much improvement and consistency needed MYST. Myst has really stepped up their game. So glad i decided to go for an updated review. More than 10 years later. Those noodles taste way better than the chinese version that i used to always have when i was younger at chinese restaurants. The noodle texture the way Myst makes it is more thicker and i like the chew. Sort of bouncy in my opinion. Beef is delicious! The deep fried appetizer platter is so worth it. Don't let the picture in the menu trick you. It's huge!! Solid 10/10. There is a surprise bed of prawn crackers at the bottom! The menu has something for everyone and i love how you can customize your drink in regards to the sugar %/ ice ratio. If you pay by credit card there is an extra fee and they do charge you for take out containers just to give you a heads up. Service is pretty solid. Fast and efficient and they speak english well. Three words to describe MYST on Kingsway - ENDLESS TAIWANESE FOOD. There's just such a *wide selection* to how much amazing food you can choose from that if you feel overwhelmed or need 10-15mins to decide - you're not alone. Service was fast & friendly -but not consistent especially for water refills- and there's tons of space inside. It's definitely meant for family or large groups to dine-in but you can also come here alone for a quick, hot meal too. When we ordered, each and every dish was packed with lots of textures and different flavours. The Champion Beef Shank & Tendon Noodle Soup was absolutely tasty and I would absolutely come here again to have another bowl in addition to other items in their expansive menu! Their XLB (Steamed Pork Soup Dumplings) tasted authentic and was bursting with hot soup inside but for 6 pieces for around $11...I probably wouldn't order it again at that price. It's good but not special. In particular, they didn't give us enough sauce & ginger to enjoy. Overall, there's just so much good food here. I was in the hood because I had my annual 清明節 over at Forest Lawn for a quick 拜山. I could have procured eats closer to where I live, but since I had the 耆英 with me, I ended up here. Made it much easier for them with the front of the door parking right on the street and no hills nor steps. I know these types of restaurants are around, Taiwanese fusion. My typical Asian haunts are casual Canto, Japanese, and KFC. The establishment is definitely catered to a younger crowd. The seniors didn't mind it at all. Food was decent, bonus that they spoke Canto. Relatively clean and bright inside. Doubt I'd order the popcorn chicken again. It was too salty. I felt like I was in the desert after that meal. We ordered the veggie spring rolls, scallion pancake, and salt and pepper chicken. The salt and pepper chicken was definitely the standout--crispy, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The veggie spring rolls came with a delicious plum sauce that added a nice touch, although I found the rolls a bit on the salty side. One of the best things about this spot is the late hours. They're open until 12:30 am, and we appreciated that they didn't turn us away when we arrived right at midnight. Place was absolutely packed for dinner so the service was quite slow and we had to try and flag down our server multiple times for water refills and the bill. I'd highly suggest making a reservation in advance as the wait time can get really long. Came with a big group and shared some Taiwanese salt and pepper fried chicken to start and deep fried bao for dessert. We each ordered our individual mains and it was tough trying to decide from their huge (and I mean HUGE) menu. I picked the stewed pork rice bowl, which was tender and delicious. It also comes with a variety of toppings such as egg and pork meat balls, which were all tasty. The fried chicken was crispy and well seasoned, but don't let its appearance fool you. Under the top layer of chicken, the basket was filled with lobster chips, which was a tad disappointing. Definitely order two if you plan on sharing with a big group. My favourite part was the deep fried bao, as it was crispy on the outside and soft and pillowy within. Also really great to share for dessert! I got the Champion Beef Noodle Soup (E1), and added a combo drink for $5.25. For the portion and taste, $17.50 was kind of pushing it. The flavours and size were nothing special. The green milk tea was pretty big, but as a 'combo' drink, the price was something I'd pay as a separate drink, not as a combo. The drink's taste was of milk tea with a hint of green tea. This is a different drink from the matcha milk tea. Service was fine, but part of our order was messed up. The ambiance was impressive when we walked in and were seated to our table. This place is very busy on the weekend! We came here on a Saturday evening around 7:30pm and were told the wait would be 20 minutes or so. We were seated around 8 pm, but dishes came out fast and were delicious! They offer a huge menu with everything from appetizers to noodle dishes to traditional desserts in hot and cold varieties! They have a one hour limit at tables during busy times, but with the rate the food comes out, that is not a problem. They do have a tiny parking lot, and most people end up parking on the street. It's been awhile since we last dined here. There have been a few changes to the menu since we last came here. I was a bit saddened to see that the Hakka Style Scallion Oil Vegetable Noodle Soup I had enjoyed last time was no longer on the menu. Happy though to read the menu and see that they do still have Vegetarian options on the menu! The texture was interesting. Somehow, they did a pretty good job of simulating the texture of a meat sausage, with the outer casing that surrounded the glutinous rice. Beyond that, there really wasn't much similarity between this and a real meat sausage either in taste or texture. It was quite bland and lacking in flavor. Not something I'd ever order again. This was the one item I found that turned out to be a disappointment. Everything else on the table was fantastic; especially the Matcha Snowflake Shaved Ice dessert. It's so cool with the dried ice. Makes it look so "misty"! This dessert is an absolute "must" when coming to this restaurant. The kids kept on stretching out their hands; trying to touch the mist! I do recommend before ordering any of their Snowflake Shaved Ice desserts that you check with the staff on whether they have dried ice for the dessert. basically a casual taiwanese eatery. I havent been here in ages, and the menu has definitely evolved. Now the menu is utterly massive. It has versions of most of the taiwanese classics you'd expect. But I cant help but feel like the sheer number of options they offer also mean theyre not particularly good at anything. And the food shows. We had one of the noodles in thick soup with chicken, the railway special rice, a green tea, couple side dishes of veg, a plate of pea sprout stir fry, and appetizer of stinky tofu. Every item is around 3/5. Just ok. Nothing particularly good, nothing offensive or inedible. But they are expensive for what you get. So the value really isnt there at all. They do have a parking lot but its frequently full. Theres also street parking. Service was ok, typical for a place like this. polite and reasonably quick. I wouldnt come back. read more

We went to Myst to try the all you can eat option. The waiter was very clear about the offer, each person much spend $20 on food first and then you can add on the "All You Can Eat" menu for $7.99 per person at the table. We had 3 people so we had to spend $60 total plus $24 for the AYCE. The quality of the food was severely lacking. It was difficult to get ahold of the server to continue ordering from the AYCE menu. The "deep fried tempura" was just tempura batter fried with nothing inside. The only thing worth it on the ayce menu was the taiwanese salty peppery chicken nuggets. We also added on $1 per person for the bottomless lemonade which was good, but again hard to get ahold of the server for refills. Will not be going back to this establishment for a long time and definitely do not recommend the AYCE "deal." read more

Impressive menu -- Huge variety of Asian foods from hotpot to beef noodles to pork knuckles to Hainanese chicken rice and many drinks and dessert options. Prices may be higher than some Chinese restaurants but they make up for it with good service, comfortable seating and decent ambiance. You should note to bring cash or debit card to pay, if you don't want to be charged an extra 2% for using credit card payments. (New payment policy) Own parking lot available but lot tend to be busy and I often find it easier to just take a street parking spot. Myst is a good option when your party are craving very different Asian items. You can be your own creative chef and customize your own combo. Simply choose your favorite meats, may it be lamb skewers or steak or chicken and pair it with your choice of carbs ie. egg noodles or rice and then choose from a selection of sauces available. I keep seeing Myst pop up in my feed and had made it a point to eventually stop by. I'm already a regular at their sister restaurant so it was doubly interesting to see what's different about Myst. The restaurant is larger and more spacious. It's also much further out along Kingsway. For my fellow walkers, it's about a 20 minute walk from Royal Oak Station. The menu here also feels ginormous by comparison. My friends and I kept getting lost flipping through the menu to find what we wanted. I was having a bit of a steak craving and opted for the steak noodle soup. The broth is still solid and just lime I'm used to from their other restaurant. Tasty and made me dig deep to drink up more than I should. I slightly regret going for the steak option as I'm sure their regular beef noodle serving is a better fit for a broth based dish. Nonetheless, no major complaints for the food. I would still say it's a bit more pricey compared to similar restaurants, or another way I would describe it would be it is a bit more of an upscale option. If you can look past that, this is a solid restaurant with tons of options for whatever Asian food related craving you may have. read more

It's a large space with cool blue accent lighting that makes you feel a bit like you're in a club. This place has quite possibly the largest menu selection I've ever seen at any restaurant. Between the food and dessert and drink options, there must've been 20-25 pages. It's a lot to look through, and because of this it took us a while to decide what to get. We shared: Fried chicken ($11.25 for a small) - it's called Taiwanese salty peppery chicken nuggets on the menu, but it's essentially the Tainanese fried chicken with basil leaves. This was our favorite dish of the night. House special fried rice ($15.25) - this dish is on their 5 year anniversary menu for a slightly discounted price, and it's pretty good fried rice. I liked the shrimp, which was large and chewy. MYST deep fried pork chop ($11.25) - we got this because it was one of the featured items on the menu; there was a giant picture of it on one of the pages. Sadly it was our least favorite dish. We didn't like the marinade, which was slightly sweet but tasted peppery at the same time. If they used a different marinade, then the pork chop would've been good, as it was very tender. We sat and chatted here for 2.5-3 hours and never felt rushed. The staff kept refilling our tea as well. My volunteer organization comes here often as it's a nice central location compared to where our events are and has the space for a large group. This is a really big plus as it's also open quite late, so we don't have to worry about getting kicked out, especially considering the events we run usually don't finish until around 9pm or later. The food here is fine, and the menu us quite vast in terms of what you can get. The prices are also fair and decently affordable, though as with everything nowadays, prices are beginning to creep up. We will continue coming here as it's quite convenient, so long as its strengths stay strong. read more

Don't really understand the bad reviews here. Having come from a very Asian community, where all the restaurants were really good and plentiful, Myst was up to par with most of the restaurants I've frequented in California in terms of price and taste. After my last visit several years ago, I revisited MYST for dinner one night after work to satisfy my curiosity if the place was as I remembered it (spoiler alert: yes it was). The only aspect I had forgotten was the layout of the small parking lot, with several one-way parking stalls right in front. Upon entering and for reasons unknown, I was seated at a table for four, even though I had advised the hostess I would be dining myself, and there was a two-seater table beside me. Maybe she thought I was a food critic or food blogger? If anyone is looking for a pro tip, I would advise you to look up the menu on their website ahead of time and decide what to order. Trying to look up the extensive menu on one's smartphone, with a thousand and one choices and customizations, was the first test I barely passed. After different waiters/waitresses passed by and asked if I was ready, and I gave up and wrote down all my choices, I was finally ready to order. Appetizer: Boiled Vegetables with Minced Pork Sauce. I chose to upgrade the vegetables to Pea Sprouts but if you don't want to pay the extra cost there are still several vegetables to choose from. A very healthy option with lightly salted minced pork and sprinkling of sauce. (Smarter folks would know to pick up the vegetables and minced pork in one go; where as I ended up testing my chopstick abilities by the end of the dish). Main: Trio Beef Noodle Soup (beef balls, beef shank and beef tendons). I would exercise caution in ordering a noddle soup, because there are many similar noodle dishes variations with different names. (Case in point, there was a Triple Beef Noodle Soup). I went with the "default" noodle choice, but there are a ton of customizations/upgrades available. The noodle soup is one size only, with a ton of noodles, some pea sprouts and only 2 of each of the beef items. Dim Sum #1: Chives, Shrimp and Pork Dumplings. Filled to the brim with the meat and chives filling (versus other ones I've had where a third to half the dumpling pastry is empty), they were absolutely delicious and highly recommended. Dim Sum #2: Pan Fried Chive Boxes (with dried shrimp). Putting this item last as this was the item that takes more time to make (both the menu and waiter made that clear to me, and I accepted the longer wait time). The chive boxes arrived piping hot and delicious. Truth be told I didn't expect the filler of clear rice noodles, but I can understand the boxes would have been extremely flat without it. Verdict: Price is a little on the higher side of the standard Asian fare and if you want to add a drink/sides you have to pay extra to make it a combo. It is a very solid clean/contemporary place to meet with friends where everyone has their own specific taste in Asian fusion food. Japanese Style Fried Rice (9/10): This is a pretty signature dish at Myst, with a perfect sunny side egg and bonito flakes. I was pleasantly surprised that my egg survived the delivery trip as well. It's a very flavourful fried rice on it's own - I just eat it by itself and don't need to pair it with meat or anything. Stewed Pork Intestine & Blood w/ Chili & Peppercorn (9/10): Pork blood and intestines are definitely not for everyone, and I completely understand. However, this is one of my favourite dishes personally. Myst gives great portions of the pork blood, intestines, and sour/picked vegis. I do think it is on the pricier side compared to some traditional Cantonese-styled restaurants where you can also order this classic dish, but their portions and quality do make me think it is acceptable. The sauce itself is very thick and undiluted - full bodied flavour in the thick numbingly spicy sauce. They also sell this as a frozen take-home pack, where you can heat it up yourself which is a tad bit cheaper. Spicy Pig Ear: I've ordered this during my previous visit (pictures not shown), and would rate it 1/10. It taste like regular chili oil with no flavour on bland pig ears, small portion and definitely not worth the price. They do have some amazing dishes, but with the huge menu, some dishes/items are bound to be below par. I'd recommend getting the popular dishes - either through word of mouth or online reviews!
