The cigar selection was all your normal fare, nothing rare but a decent selection if you needed one. The kicker was the olive oil and balsamic vinegar. The prices ranged from $7 to $9 for 200ml for flavored oils and vinegars. Ended up sampling and walking out with two bottles for what I'm used to paying significantly more in other stores. Worth a stop by if you like having people over and like putting out fresh bread with dipping sauces. Flavored Oils and Vinegars are always great things with cracked pepper, so stop on by and try it out. The guy behind the counter is very helpful!

That has to say something! I've had Cato Corner cheese in restaurants. I've bought it at farm stands and markets. But I've never had the pleasure of buying it at their Colchester farm. The small shop at the farm has all their cheese and some other items such as (1) CT Maple Syrup, (2) a CT made Manchego Bread that was fresh and satisfying, (3) cute little savory and sweet cracker-cookie hybrids that were a nice counterpoint to the good salty cheeses, (4) various meats in a cooler, and (5) dog treats that my dog, Pasta, loved. It's not the biggest CT produce season right now. Perhaps they have in season produce in the summer as well, but I couldn't say. I bought the Womanchego and Bloomsday cheeses. One would imagine that Womanchego is basically Manchego with a Wo added to the front to be fun. If I tried this cheese without knowing the name. I'm not sure I would have thought it was a Manchego, but it was good. It's a pale yellow, semi-hard and mild cheese, and it has small holes throughout. It was a bit earthy. Buttery. Creamy. Not really sharp. It was a good eating cheese. The Bloomsday looked similar, but it was sharper and seemed saltier in a good way. I'd be more likely to buy the Bloomsday again. In any event, they had probably over 10 cheese varieties in a number of different styles. I'm not sure if they offer cheese samples since nobody seemed to ask for samples while I was there, and I was in a hurry since my son was with me. I'm giving Cato Corner 4.5 Stars, which is partly based upon the fact that it's fun to buy directly from a farm at the farm, and upon the friendly service. You could see cows inside a structure. Wrong or right, that makes me think the milk and cream they use for the cheese is super fresh. Seems like a good bet. Maybe it doesn't matter that much since cheese is aged, but a lot of scoring businesses is how you feel about the presentation of the product. Cato Corner, with its CT farm and cool branding, makes me feel good. So 4.5 Stars.

Carson served me as I chose a few different cheese, bread and meat items with tastes along the way. I also met Christine who is the shop owner and had a great exchange with her. The store was well stocked with specialty foods, gift items and lots of holiday paper napkins. I went in for cheese knives and found a nice selection to choose from. Ivy and Sophia were both professional, patient, and hospitality oriented. We were kept in the loop with deadlines, road blocks, and decision making. They cc'd my mom on every email as I requested. They were always spot on, and I ended up adding anything they offered me because they knew it was part of my vision. At times it was almost like they were in my head! I never once felt like "another one of their events," but rather I wondered if they even HAD any other events, because the experience felt so personalized and tailored to me. They close down the shop and do a detailed tasting and take notes on what you like or dislike. It was organized and well put together. The ceremony was even more beautiful than I had pictured, all thanks to Sophia and the staff at Ivy's. As we were looking at the menu, The manager on duty told us the dog couldn't be in the store. I replied "well it's too hot to leave her in the car." She got defensive and replied snarkishly "we have a nice seating area outside". After ordering I went outside to stay with our dog and sent my friend in to order for her self. When my fiancé came out, he let me know they even had free dog treats inside the shop. What was the harm in letting us keep the dog in there while we order? Was it worth the yelp review and making a paying customer uncomfortable??? I do not recommend stopping here if you are traveling with you pet and looking for a quick bite to grab.
