We were in Mystic Connecticut, on a getaway. The Front Desk suggested Clyde's as a venue. This IS an actual working cider mill and has been around for well over 140 years. It's fascinating to watch the steam powered, belt driven machines. Trucks unload the apples into a giant hopper where they're mashed, loaded onto cloth covered boards, until there's three or four layers of these apple filled layers. That's when they start the pressing, similar to wine making. The worker said that after they finish pressing every drop of juice from the apples, they're given to someone else and used as feed. Nothing wasted! There's a gift shop and a Retail Store. They have hard cider tastings, provided your are of age, there's also regular non-alcoholic cider, and honey tasting. Plenty of places to sit and watch the world go by, and imagine what life was like over 100 years ago in a bucolic venue like this. It's good for all ages.

A visit to Clyde's is a whole *thing* - for you autumn activity loving girlies, this is the place for you. - Plenty of outdoor seating options & places to lounge - Wide variety of ciders - from frozen to spiked - Free apple wine tasting - Gift shop with all sorts of goodies* - Apple cider donuts galore** *Shirts, mugs, wine stoppers, etc. We visited in November, which I presume is near the end of their season. The gift shop had end-of-season vibes. The shelves were very picked over & the options for clothing sizes were limited. **Available to buy in small amounts or by the dozen. It was definitely a cute fall activity. We were in & out in about an hour. I suppose you could hang around for longer, maybe get another drink & look into the cider making area, but we felt we had done everything we needed to do in an hour.

Clyde's has been in operation since 1881's originally selling hard ciders. You can still see the apple mill which houses an 18th century steam powered press. Five generations have been operating this business. You feel like you have been transported back in time. Inside the house, are jams, salsas, biscuit mix, candy and freshly squeezed apple juice and hard cider for sale. Staff are very pleasant and friendly, Open parking lot.

Saw the reviews and added this seasonal Cider Mill to my list of businesses to try. We had out of state guests visiting and while in the area we stopped by the Cider Mill. Sadly, on the day we visited the mill was not operating. Their social media page and website have 'hours of operation listed', which seem to be on the weekends. Parking is in a dirt lot behind the buildings. There is a sign to 'not park in the middle of the lot' so I'm thinking parking can become limited during busy weekend days. There is what appears to be a small café on one side of the driveway (to the parking area) and a market on the other side. The market includes a number of autumn goods including Macintosh apples which is an apple type that is not always available. I happily picked up a couple of bags of those. The market also includes jars of store branded jams, packages of cake, bread and muffin mixes along with cider and donuts. The market is a 'one way' that zig-zags through the market to the checkout counter. If you do not pick anything to purchase, it's easy enough to exit w/o approaching the register. There were several registers open and the line waited by the last of the market shelves for the next customer to be called to an open cashier. There are also several items outside on the porch that can be purchased inside the market. After making our purchases, we wandered over the the cider mill. Trucks are set up to show how the process works. A truck load of apples are dumped into a hopper that brings them to an overhead conveyance. The apples are then dropped down onto the cider press. Once the cider is extracted the apple pulp is loaded onto a cart that rides a rail outside to dump the pulp into the bed of another working truck to be disposed. An elegant system. Although not operating, the cider mill was open to view. Our guests tried one of their donuts and when I asked if it was 'worth the trip' I received an enthusiastic 'oh yes'. I'm not sure where their orchard is, but this little mill, market and café made for a very nice, quick stop on our day playing the tourist in Mystic.

The cutest side quest for our girls weekend in mystic because cider and donuts were an absolute must. While busy, there was plenty of outdoor seating. However, parking was definitely competitive.

Loved this place! Cider was my favorite!!! Such a cute place. It was very busy on a Tuesday. The shop had so many baked goods. It was amazing. The wine tasting was pretty awesome also. Cannot wait to come back!

Iconic New England spot! The oldest running steam mill in the country so expect longggg lines in the fall. We came on a Sunday morning around 10am and the line was still pretty long but was even longer when we left around 12. Very good cider donuts but wish they were warm. Their cider is a must and getting it hot was perfect on a chilly day. They also have cider slushies, wine and hard cider. We didn't get a chance to try the hard cider but we didn't care much for the wine. Although it's fun they have free samples if you're over 21!

The apple cider tastes great and the donuts are decent too. A good place to pass by and have a quick visit.

Great local cider!!! Never a disappointment when visiting. Live apple press demonstrations on weekends and a variety of snacks and drinks to try and buy! Parking in the fall can be a hassle seeing as it's a hot ticket this time of year! Fresh kettle corn popcorn made daily and a variety of fresh pastries!!! Apple cider made on deck! Simply amazing! Hard cider, fresh donuts, wine tasting, apple cider!

Cute place! Great fluffy cider donuts. The cider is clean tasting and is not overly sweet. Also picked up a slice of apple pie which was pretty good. They also have a stand for kettle corn which was pretty good! Lots of tables for people to sit. Only downside for us was both times we shown up the steam machine wasn't operating. Dogs are allowed on property but not in the buildings.

Cider slushie and doughnut. Yum!

Delicious cider slushies, cider doughnuts and all types of other wonderful food! Try to go during week to avoid mad house crowds.

Great little cider mill with tons of products to buy including honeys, donuts, ciders, wines, breads, and much more! The staff moves quick and the line was moving fairly quick as well. They have complimentary wine or hard cider tastings to try before you purchase a bottle which is nice. There is plenty of seating in different areas. Fantastic fall activity to try!

There were a lot of intriguing options to choose from. I had the chilaquiles ($15) and a Cacio Pepe doughnut ($4). The chilaquiles had corn tortilla chips, salsa Verde, salsa Macha, cotija, white onion, cilantro, and a fried egg. The chips appeared to be homemade, and they were tremendous along with the salsa Verde and Macha. There was a nice kick to the salsas and a perfect crunch from the chips. However, it just felt like the dish was mostly chips. I felt like more toppings could be added or an additional egg. The fried egg was also a little overcooked, guess when ordering, we could have specified how we wanted it to be cooked. The doughnut was okay. The sourdough base was very solid, but essentially just a lot of cheese on top. I was not sure what to expect regarding this type of doughnut, but this was the least optimal choice. Will I go back? I would.

Three donuts were tried and my thoughts on each are below. Orange Creamsicle - This was brioche filled with orange cream mousse topped with orange glaze, whipped cream, and an orange slice. This tasted exactly like what one would expect. The icing was pleasant, while the whipped cream was very light and airy. Bananas Fosters - This was a banana glazed brioche topped with whipped cream, caramel drizzle, and a banana chip. Again, this tasted like what one expects when ordering this type. This was very solid. There was a nice balance of flavors and extremely large too. Bismark - This was filled with raspberry jam and topped with whipped cream, raspberries, and powdered sugar. Again, I could not believe how light the whipped cream was. The raspberries were a nice touch on top and filling, very tasty. Will I go back? Yes, I would.

My non gluten free friend had the same one and she really liked it too. Very fluffy, not dry! It was perfect! Now I wish I bought more! The place is very small inside. You basically order and take it to go. There are tables outside on their deck where you can have coffee and a donut! Prices are great too! And they have a great variety of flavors.

December 2025 Yikes!…read moreThis place is not where you come for hot cocoa or hot tea. There are too many choices in the area to buy a good quality hot drink. This is not. The service was horrendous. My drink was four dollars and I got charged a dollar more for no reason. Making it five dollars. The drink was not hot and tasted more like water than hot cocoa. We asked for it to be heated up and they said they could not do that. They told us the half-and-half makes the hot chocolate cooler than if we were to order just hot chocolate with water. I thought that was a problem. But then I had to deal with the rude attitude of two of their employees. When we told them that our drink was not hot and asked them to heat it up, they told us that they could not do so. They said they would have to remake it and they could just put hot water in with no cream. The snippy, sassy attitude was not appreciated. The adorable ambience of the teahouse is worth a visit. More of a walk-through. But I would never come here again with the attitude of two of their female employees. I can't imagine if I was rude to them how much worse they would have treated me. There are too many choices in this cute village to spend your money. Save it. Do not come here.
