I bought a large spice jar bottle of dried chilli flakes labeled My Town Marketplace. When I opened it, a moth flew out and I could see a small grey cocoon hanging inside. I brought it back to the store to the customer service desk. When one of the people at the desk looked inside she said she could see a moth. Because. I did not have the receipt, they refused to exchange it or refund it. I have shopped there for many years but I no longer will go back due to their poor customer service. read more

The meaning of the word "surly"= "Sullenly ill-tempered, gruff". That's the supervisory characteristic at My Town Market Place in Stone Ridge. Have a question? From the facial expression and brief reply, you'll learn how annoying you are. Cashiers last about one month or even less. It's no wonder. Also, beware of expiry dates on dairy and produce - they're often wildly over-optimistic, perhaps because of aging refrigeration. It's a convenient place for the locals but you'd be better off driving to Woodstock or Boiceville or New Paltz or Kingston. read more

Good for quick shops of necessities totaling less than $100 but would be really pricey to do a big $400 shop here as the selection is somewhat limited and prices are on average 15-20% higher than the big box stores. I prefer to shop at locally owned, non-chain stores but given the sometimes exorbitant prices and reduced diversity of brands it is really not where you go for a big shop. Still, the small size means it is easier to navigate and there are deals like 10% off total purchases over $100 on weds or thurs (can't recall). Really, set up to gouge weekenders who value proximity and speed over price. Overall, prices skyrocketed after this was sold (used to be Emmanuelle's) a few years ago. This was exacerbated by packaged goods inflation nationally, of course. Concomitantly, employee satisfaction seems to have dropped; I've had several checkers openly complain about fair compensation in the last 18 months. Bottom line: I still shop here at least 1x week since it is the most proximate venue. read more

Great little market but pretty much everything you need. Prices are average. I was very surprised to see specialty selections that you wouldn't expect in these parts. Great beer selection as well. This place is gross. I shop here frequently cause of the convenience but I'm done. I just added everything up and over the last 3 months I've spent 70$ on rotten food that I had to go back and return. I don't know what the employees are getting paid for??? They don't check dates on anything. You have to that yourself as you shop. The reason I'm even writing this is because I stopped there yesterday for some milk and butter cause I'm making a dozen pies today and needed some extra stuff. I checked the date on the milk before I bought it (it's sell by date is early Oct) I just opened it and it's completely rotten. Like beyond spoiled. How the hell does that even happen? Now I have to drive half an hour back to the store AGAIN to get my damn money back. you guys suck. Nobody should shop here. They also openly employ a child predator. There's proof of this. This is now the 7th?? Rotten dairy product I've gotten. At this point i understand it's my fault for shopping here. But I'm like 99% sure they don't refrigerate these things in the back. Emmanuel's was good. My Town Marketplace is not. I find that they're always out of things that I'm use to getting often. They have a poor selection now and I find myself buying the stuff I need on Amazon. This shouldn't be, especially in a town like Stone Ridge, NY. Food is ofter moldy, stale or out of date. Asking for products they're out of is useless. I ask for receipts and keep them in case anything needs to be returned. Not a good business model. read more

Sufficient if you just need to pick up a couple of things on the way home. It's pricey, but that's the cost of convenience. The selection is ok, and sometimes I'm even surprised to find a less-common item on the shelf (thank you, low salt Pringles!) Unless you're desperate, skip the deli. I've had multiple less-than-satisfactory experiences and finally learned my lesson today with some discolored meat that went right into the trash when I opened the package. Tanya DeWitt Hello neighbors, I want to let you all know of an experience I had with My Town Marketplace today. A few days ago I bought a package of Organic Tofu Dumplings for my daughter. The expiration date on the package was very close but she wanted them so I bought them. We got home, opened the package and the dumplings were all moldy. I didn't have time to bring them back, so I went back the next day but unfortunately forgot my receipt. I went to the refrigerated shelf where I bought them and discovered that there were several packages that had passed the expiration date. I brought them up to the register and spoke to a manager who told me she would have someone remove the out of date packages, but she couldn't give me a refund without my receipt. So I told her that I would bring my receipt in today. I asked if she needed me to bring the moldy product. She said "No, just bring the receipt"....Ok...so I brought the receipt to her a short time ago...she now said...l'm sorry I can't give you a refund without the product because I need to be sure you got it from this store!! It says it right on the receipt!! I showed her many other packages that were expired!! I said "You told me you didn't need me to bring the moldy package". ...she said, "I know, I'm sorry". So for $7.59, they have lost a customer. I will never shop there again. I will also be spreading the word about how My Town Marketplace treats their long time customers. Further, when Emmanuel owned and operated this store for Many, Many years...this would never have been a problem. He was a businessman with integrity who cared about the customers in his community. Decent selection. OK produce section. Extensive deli counter, but I never get anything there. Packaged loose salad varieties I've bought there have spoiled In 3-4 days so they must not be using adequate refrigeration. They have their own coffee grinder for whole beans. They carry most of the major brands and have an organic section. Prices are higher than pretty much any place else (sometimes by a lot) but in a pinch I use them. Check your receipt, sale items sometimes fail to ring up correctly. I've had to have them adjust my charge a few times. read more

Emanuels was a great grocery store; My Town Marketplace is not. The previous managers/owners made the store easy to navigate, had quality products, took requests, had a friendly staff and always made me feel respected as a loyal customer. I actually looked forward to shopping every Thursday, which I did for over a decade. The new management is impersonal and won't even talk to me if I have an issue. I have started to drive the extra miles to go to Adams in Kingston since they are kind to their customers and generous with the community. Wednesday nights are 10% off the entire purchase. Maybe my new nickname will be Wednesday instead of Thursday. read more

The new owners here have really been a disappointment. The previous owners really supported the community...now you can't even get them to give an answer. They have been asked several times to support programs in the local schools and have either ignored the requests or just said no...these aren't even donation requests...it was a request to give a discount in a book of coupons and they couldn't even participate. Previous review is correct. Prices are to please the 'citiots' that only show up in the Summer. Produce has always been horrible. Drive 5 miles north to Adams, produce is beautiful, you can actually see the meat get butchered, not behind some dark hallway/doors. Once again emmanuel's marketplace in stone ridge ny claims the ads that are in their weekly flyer are for a different store. This is not the first time they pulled this stunt. They advertise products in their deli dept, and then claim its for another store. The deli clerk was rude and told me that emmanuel's dosen't have to spell it out in the flyer. Very poor service. I like Emmanuels. Although the prices are a bit on the high side, they are well stocked and for me, it's half the driving distance from my house than going in the opposite direction to a supermarket in Kingston. When Emmanuel's run specials, they are competitive with the discount supermarkets in Kingston. Their deli counter makes great wings. People that work here are as congenial as people are that work in a supermarket. One of my first jobs as a kid was as a cashier in the old Grand Union Supermarket chain. Supermarket's aren't known for treating their workers kindly unless they're family run. And on behalf of the workers, spend a few minutes in any supermarket and just watch how disrespectful the customers treat supermarket workers. I'll give Emmanuels 5 stars. If the supermarket had any competition, I'd give them less. But they have no competition in the area. I go there for emergencies. They do on occasion, have fruits and vegetables I can't get elsewhere. read more

Apparently this store subscribes to the notion that the customer is wrong and can be spoken too in any rude manner they prefer. As a lifelong area resident, I will never set foot in this establishment again. From the deli department workers, to the management, to the checkers, all extremely rude to me after a hot food item fell off the shelf and splattered all over me. Not only was there no apology, they totally blamed me and treated me to nasty insults, even as I was walking out the door, and refused to give me anyone's name, telling me I was not entitled to personal information! Appalling, and on Mother's Day, no less. Never in my life have I been treated this nasty in any store and I left in tears. In contrast, I went to Davenport's Farm Stand for the few items I needed, and not only were they super nice, they gave me a bouquet of tulips when they saw how upset I was. Overall, I like the Market. The selection is nice, the people are generally friendly and I'm usually in and out within a few minutes. The meat and deli sections always seems to be fresh and we usually find what we need. However, the prices here are a bit on the steep side. For example, I've found items "on sale" here that are still more expensive than the same item at regular price in other stores nearby. I normally use the Market for those items we ran out of and need quickly, I shop elsewhere on our normal gorcery run simply because the comparison of receipts between here and other stores would demonstrate a fairly obvious price difference. Overall though, a good place to shop. read more

Today was the last visit. Every time I come here and try to get anything from the deli.... I stand and wait. I'm a pretty patient person, but the deli workers walk by over and over. No eye contact. I love that this is a small, locally owned store but that's about it. The prices are slightly higher, which I don't mind paying to support small businesses but the service is almost to the point of being rude. The stock people don't excuse themselves when moving merchandise past a customer and the staff at check out consistently act as if ringing up a customer is an imposition. I make a point to drive the opposite direction to the other locally owned grocery store in the area. read more

I love Emmanuel's Market because of its its butcher that grinds fresh meat, it's local artists shows, it's local newspapers, the Nancy Ostrovsky mural on its outside and it's excellent local, and organic food selections. My boyfriend and I were on the mountain visiting friends and would have been home too late to shop at the big-chain grocery in New Paltz - so our friends mentioned Emmanuels. My good friend, Lupe also recommends the marketplace. It was worth it - my boyfriend and I love fresh meat and he loves to cook us steak. We were VERY pleased with the chicken and stir fry we found and the taste was so delicious. The surprising part was we found these marinate-in-a-bag Jack Daniels products that made a big difference in our flavor - we've never seen these down in town at the New Paltz grocery store and we shop every aisle. The produce available here leaves much to be desired. Everything I have had from here the past month has been overpriced and mealy, rotting soon after getting it home. I was "forced" to buy produce here after having knee surgery and not being able to drive far-can't wait to be mobile again so I can finally get some decent vegetables and fruits! read more

I'm so disappointed in this market. It's bad enough to live so far away from Kingston and New Paltz where there are fine supermarkets and health food stores. And with the local organic market being so godawful expensive (try paying $5 for one tomato) you would think this store would step up it's game. NOT. I bought chicken there this spring and it tasted so tainted after I cooked it, I threw it away. The produce section is unacceptable. Wilted greens, old tomatoes that are starting to rot, and so on. I stopped by for some corn for dinner a couple of weeks ago, bit into it and it tasted like a ton of chemicals spraying in my mouth. With all the great farms around? Why? The prices are ridiculous as well. If the excuse is that they don't have enough customers, how about trying to partner with better wholesalers and local farms? High Falls, Stone Ridge, Rosendale, etc would pack the place. Very disappointed in this store indeed, so much so, I'm not even going to try anymore. read more

I love Emmanuels! The folks who work there are friendly, it's cheerful, clean, and well-stocked, and it's a nice alternative to the huge chain stores located in nearby Kingston and New Paltz. I can get almost anything I need or want here, including some really good locally produced cheeses, smoked fish, fresh pasta, and various small-batch sauces. The deli staff is great, and so is the sushi-maker, who will do custom rolls for you if you just ask. They have convenient bottle-and-can-return machines at the entrance, and a fairly extensive organic foods section. Midweek is the best time to shop there, when it's not too crowded. Enjoy! read more

Have loved this store ever since it opened. Clean and a very varied assortment of items. Good butcher department as well. Always ordering something new and different and can always ask them to order something you like that they don't carry. Also a great bakery department with custom ordered cakes as well as a good selection of catering items like wrap trays, etc. Friendly staff of workers. Best store to happen in Stone Ridge. read more
