I am so sick of going into places and having the person behind the counter look at me with a blank face like it would cost them something to smile. I walk in with a smile when I make my order, but it's wiped off my face when I look at someone staring at me with no expression. I almost don't even care if the coffee is good or bad if you can't greet me with a smile or a warm greeting when I walk into your shop. It always makes me wonder if these people are trained to treat people nicely. It's all part of the experience. I have been in search for good coffee in the Hudson Valley and I'm so happy to report that I have found it! I tried a cappuccino here and it was so fantastic. I had never heard of the coffee company before, but it was a great blend out of Brooklyn. They also had an extensive food menu, which I always appreciate seeing out of a coffeeshop. Not only did they have pastries but they offered sandwiches and omelettes, I was so incredibly impressed! They had bar seating by the window and a few tables outside to lounge and savor your cup of coffee. I'm so happy to have found this place and would come here daily if I lived in the neighborhood. read more

What is it about Tuesdays in Upstate New York? I'm sure if I did some deep Googling I could find an explanation, but for I'll remain confused and curious. I've been visiting Hudson for years now and have always found it interesting (read: annoying) that it turns into a ghost town on Tuesdays. As our luck would have it, when we stopped in Kington for lunch last week, it happened to be a Tuesday and everything was closed. We wanted a straightforward breakfast/brunch-type deal and pickings were slim, but I came across Village Coffee and Goods and its seemed to fit the bill. If you're looking for a restaurant, this isn't for you. If you're looking for creative fast-casual, you've come to the right place. Village Coffee and Goods is a tiny but impressive space. A prepared foods fridge, lots of cute coffee accessories and other fun specialty foods, eco-friendly products -- all that feel-good, earth-conscious stuff. Lots of nice options coffee-wise, as one would hope for a coffee shop. Part of our rationale for choosing Village Coffee was its extensive food menu -- larger than most straightforward coffee shops. However, the size of the food menu does not reflect the size of the portions: my fiancé and I both received portions that seemed tiny for the price. Everything was tasty, but we expected something heartier. I ordered the Quinoa bowl w/ seasonal vegetables, mushrooms, greens, chili oil, buckwheat cracker (GF) and homemade kale chips and my fiancé had the Brekkie Sandwich. The bowl was nourishing and healthy, the homemade kale chips were a great touch, but I could have used more than just a sprinkling of the seasonal veggies and mushrooms. Note: while the store itself is too small to accommodate seating, there is a nice little patio with concrete stools right outside. Not covered, so don't plan to sit there if it rains. But great if you come with a pup and/or want something casual, as we did. read more

I went to visit my grandparents in Saugerties and was not expecting to find such a cute little cafe shop only 15 minutes away. Wow! Unfortunately, we came during closing time so we could not enjoy their house made food items. We did buy to-go their chili which was SPECTACULAR. Also, their turmeric granola is very yummy (if you like turmeric). And they have such a SELECTION of honey and honey-based jams which made me very excited. My mom and I are big fans of oatmeal; so, of course, we tried their overnight oats. Imagine Apple Pie. That's the best description I can give ya. Just wowza. One thing I loved about this little gem was their variety and uniqueness. The store itself is my dream come true - arts and crafts with a kitchen. The only minus is that there are few spots to sit there and enjoy your coffee. I loved their ceramic bowls and mugs! Thought that was such a nice touch, for sure. I am excited to come back (one, to visit my grandparents again) but also to try their coffee ;) read more

SoooOoOoOoOo! I have mixed feelings about this place and I will be truly honest with you. Immediately, this place gives you the vibes you W A N T. There was a little social distanced line outside since they are only allowing I believe 3 people in at a time or one family at a time type of thing. That's totally cool as this place is really small and cozy inside. You wouldn't want all the overcrowding and all especially with covid. The staff was SO SO SO SO SO kind, especially a gentleman with his cool bun in the cashier (wish I got his name) but he was extremely friendly and helpful. Gave us some ideas of things to do nearby end a few menu suggestions. Their smiles were radiating from under the mask and everyone was just so cool. They knew we weren't too decided on what we wanted. (It's so hard to pick food when you're starved hahaha). So they gave us all the time we needed even to browse around with our little furry child. They gave all sorts of cute things you can buy: coffee, jams, soaps, ceramics, kombucha, cheese and so much more. Everything is local! Ok back to the food ordering. I totally ordered with my eyes and ordered their chocolate croissant because in my brain it was nutella. It ended up being too heavy for me because it was actually a s a l t e d chocolate cream. That was my fault. I loved the first two bites but totally hated the rest of it and felt gross after. It's my fault. Not theirs. My hubby couldn't think with the zero sugar in his brain from us being hungry SO he ordered the ramp toast. It was just not what we expected. Again. Our fault. Totally expected some type of different bread type. The pesto was way too heavy too much garlic (a 3 day garlic aftertaste LOL). The chocolate donut was delish though! Can't complain about the coffee as it was great. The only thing I wish is that they would offer a dark roast rather than the light/medium option that they have. Also, if they would do pour over. That would be a dream. Other than that. I'm happy. This place is all vibes. Artists + community. Also the cutest little outdoor space. Dog friendly. Not the best for large parties. But if you're 2-3 you're good. Also. Don't expect amazing food. Just basic. It's more for the vibes and the feels. read more

A trendy-looking cafe perfect for coffee/breakfast/brunch. We ordered lattes and split a quiche. While everything was tasty, the most enjoyable part was the atmosphere. The space is light, airy and selling a selection of well-curated food and kitchen items. Everything is pricey, but it fun to browse and see some of the beautiful mugs, and other goods for sale. The seating is down the block and similarly so pleasant to sit in. A perfect way to start your day in Kingston. read more

Our last day in the Catskills region and gave this place a try driving back down to metro NY area. It is a small storefront but does have indoor seating area which is very clean with AC one store down. My wife got the shiitake bowl for $14 which actually did look very good for a veggie bowl and tasted great. I wish I had gotten that. I had a breakkie sandwich with egg and green pesto on a toasted rye sourdough bread. I loved the pesto and they gave a lot of it, but really with a folded egg for $9 wasn't really worth it. My son got the croissant with egg and bacon which was alright. This place does have a niche but just not really my cup of tea. The hospitality is very nice though. One of our favorite spots to visit in Upstate! I love their unique selection of home goods and food! We've tried the sausage roll, blueberry/cardamom pop tart, and hand pies - all have been sooo good. My go to drink is an iced fat toad latte with oatmilk! It doesn't always taste the same when we go, but when Jackie makes it it's the best thing in earth! All of the staff are so friendly and give great recommendations! Very interesting options! Someone recommended this place after they saw us staring at pakt, which was closed that Saturday morning. So glad they did because this place is great. I got the oyster mushroom toast with brie, micro broccoli, and sliced apples. It was savory and worked very well together. The toast is actually filling and you could probably even share it with someone. I also had the chocolate maple latter which was the perfect temperature when I got it! This place is worth the drive. Small store area and the safety measures are definitely in place. I wanted the shiitake bowl but it was lacking in flavor. It had a kick of spice but didn't really live up to its name. The shredded chicken bowl was delicious, however. We also splurged in the chia pudding and overnight oats--both yummy. I ordered a ginger chocolate chip cookie (because, why not?!) and ended up buying extras to bring home. Good coffee and takeout breakfast, prices seem a bit steep for outside the city. I had the veg breakfast special which was a fresh slice of toast topped with a fried egg and lots of veggies. It was satisfying and wholesome but price seemed like NYC pricing. Iced coffee was served in a hot coffee cup and was pretty good. They have tons of nice local goods in the shop, kinda hard to really browse since only one person inside at a time. Also there's ample backyard seating and tables to have your coffee and snacks. Wow! What a little gem this place is! Needed a late lunch following a medical procedure and found this place nearby. Had the delicious "Soup of the Day"' a Potato and Kohlrabi with crispy mushrooms.
