A family style Korean dumpling and shabu shabu restaurant in a quiet plaza with lots of parking. Love their giant dumplings, which can be ordered in 3s or 6s on its own, or as part of a noodle bowl. We also tried a garlic Jokbal this time. It comes as a hot pot and with a variety of wrapping veggies. I m surprised at the size and the sweetness of the yellow garlic paste. The noodles soup is very good, both in the chewiness of the fresh noodles and the beef broth with pepper. But, I can recall Myungdong's food vividly without the photos which is always a good sign. :) Myungdong serves up a mean bowl of kalguksu and gut-jeol-ee (fresh garlicky kimchi) and that's what I came for. Their broth is clean and complex and the knife cut noodles don't disappoint. I love the spicy version of their original and since I was dining in with my sister, we were able to sample their steamed dumplings as well. The nostalgia of this place. So many memories here. First date w/ my gf. The over-ordering and sharing of many dishes w/ my friends. Since my last review they no longer only serve 3 things. They now have bossam, jokbal and also big beef rib kalguksu on the menu! That beef rib kalguksu is one of the best value items in york region. You get THREE beef ribs and a ton of fresh noodles. The bowl is bigger than your usual bowl. The broth is incredible and the noodles are nice and chewy. The jokbal and the bossam are also phenomenal. The bossam is actually melt-in-your-mouth texture and while the jokbal is not as good as say Hanyang Jokbal, it's still very tender and flavourful. Last but not least, CMON. DAT KIMCHI. It still hasn't been topped for me. Extremely garlicky with that homemade fermented taste. I'd be able to recognize that kimchi with a blindfold on. Ppl are always comparing this resto to Jin Korean Noodles over near Times Square. I tried that place that and while I thought it was good, I really dnt understand why ppl are giving it such high ratings. Imo, this place is the OG and the food is arguably tastier and better value-wise (larger portions). Maybe cuz it's still the "newer" kid on the block or perhaps because it's in a more regularly frequented location? FURTHERMORE, Jin's menu is VERY similar to this place. This is a abnormal Korean restaurant, maybe we should say it just a bit different than the regular Korean food that we know. We were trying to celebrate my husband's birthday. And his friend recommended this one. We checked online, pictures seem showinh white colour noodles soup or dumplings. And the name of the restaurant also mainly have "Noodles". I was wondering if it could be something special or we should try something that we know. But my husband would like to try. We entered the restaurant, the staff were all Koreans. That means it is traditional Korean food. So we decided to try. We had a mousse cake in our car that need to put in the fridge, but they kind of not really want to put in their fridge. When we looked at the menu, we have no clue what we could have, because the food is not regular Korean food. The menu was quite simple, noodles, dumplings, hot pot and pork hocks. So we checked on other tables, most of them had noodles and dumplings, or hot pots. My husband wanted the pork hocks, which I hadn't seen anyone ordered it, not sure how it looked like. We asked the waitress how it was. She told us a plate of pork hocks will come with a little bit of vegetables to wrap up the meat. But we need to order noodles separately. We ordered a plate of brainsed garlic pork hocks and a bowl of noodles. Because I couldn't have too spicy, and they don't have little spicy level, and pork hocks with cheese was unknow. So we have the basic ones. The plate of pork hocks was big and they also offered a heat plan to keep it warm, then a few veggie leaves came with it. The bowl of noodles Soup was good enough for two of us, but not much meat inside. Perhaps too much of meat, we couldn't finish all of them, we have to pack it up and enough for another meal. When it comes to Korean dumplings, this is probably the only place I go to. These jumbo sized dumplings are delicious! Merely an order of filling dumplings is enough for me. You have to dip these babies in the sauce and add some chilli in the sauce. They are so satisfying. The only side dish they serve is kimchi, which is a bit rare for Korean restaurants, as they usually have many side dishes. They are known for their kimchi but they have a lot to offer in Korean food. The kimchi is very garlicky and made with many bold flavours. Though you can purchase their kimchi to go, you can get unlimited helpings at the restaurant, for free. The large dumplings are good too but in my opinion, the texture is a bit soft. Though many do come for the giant dumplings, their noodles and soups are where this place shines. During this visit I got shabu shabu. The meat was a bit tough but the soup as extremely flavourful. It was also served with veggies, fresh noodles, and rice cakes. I would definitely recommend getting something with soup and noodles. The meat itself was kind of though however. The real star of the dinner was the "congee". For an additional fee you can get rice and an egg which is mixed with the remaining soups and topped with an egg. Once the server mixes it, a delicious "congee" is made. This is such a wonderful way to end the meal and I would highly recommend it to anyone who chooses to dine here. I was surprised that this place has very good review on Google and less so on Yelp. But since I am nearby for an errand and needed food badly, I will try this one. At the door, there is already a line up, but I later realized that I actually needed to put my name on a list, instead of queuing. And the funny part is that everyone queuing did not know they have to put name on a list. When the list finally filled, the waiting staffs suddenly focus on cleaning up the tables to seat us. Most food in the menu looks nice. And whatever got served on other guest's tables already looking real good. Unfortunately, the meat rib noodle is sold out already at 1pm. So, we ordered the park meat noodle and the very nice looking mouth watering dumplings. The usual appetizer, kimchi, was served with a vivid red color. And when I put that in my mouth, oh my god. I didn't know kimchi can be that good. I was not over spicy and there is this sweetness that gave it a good balance. The cabbage was fermented with the tenderness that is just about right, smooth and soft. The noodle came and I think the photos looked better. But then the broth taste very good, the raised pork is soft and tender. The noodle is smooth, but we think it could have been more chewy. Anyhow, hand made noodle for sure. The dumplings arrived with a near wrong delivery to another table. The dumplings look nice and large. It is on a healthier side the the Chinese pot sticker or dumplings, which the meat a bit more thin, although they were cooked moist and smooth, which even being large, they are still tasty and not too heavy. This place really went downhill. I used to travel here from downtown because I thought it was so hearty and tasty. During my last visit last week, the restaurant only had one other diner at 7pm while Pheonix next door was packed (never a good sign). The signature noodles were tasteless, I had to ask for salt which is super disappointing. The seafood pancake doesn't come with the zesty sauce it normally comes with, the lady said to use the same sauce as the dumpling (weird). The garlic sauce on the garlic Bossam was sweet, kind of like honey mustard which to me is super weird as we were all expecting a savoury and garlic-forward sauce. The only thing that remained its quality was the kimchi. During our entire meal, the 2 females servers never came by to take away dirty dishes or top up the corn tea (mind you it was an empty restaurant). However, when we asked for the bill, they quickly came to take away dishes and the kimchi as if they wanted to ensure that we don't take the left over kimchi home. Came here for a causal Sunday lunch. Spacious atmosphere, nice staff. Fairly priced. I ordered the dumpling and rice cake soup and my friend ordered the Meat Kalguksu. I remembered coming here a few months back and they had more items on their menus but now they only serve a couple variations of Kalguksu's, dumplings and Bossam. Their kimchi was more of the sweeter side, but they were generous with their portions, even giving us seconds before we asked. My dumpling rice cake soup was very satisfying and the broth was flavourful and delicious. Perfect for a cold day. The only takeaway I would say is that some of the rice cake was cooked unevenly so some were super soft and others were a bit too hard. My friend also enjoyed his Meat Kalguksu. I absolutely LOVE this restaurant for korean noodles and dumplings. Keep in mind that this isn't your typical korean restaurant. They pretty much only serve noodles and dumplings. When a restaurant has only two variation of items on their menu, you KNOW it will be good. They usually have a shabu shabu (which is basically hotpot) item, but that has been changed to takeout only due to COVID-19. I definitely recommend everyone trying the shabu shabu again once they have it available for dine-in! It comes with a generous portion of meat, many vegetables, and noodles at the end (don't forget to ask for this!) They also provide 3 different sauces that are delicious and tasty for your shabu shabu meal. What you'll notice when you come here is that everyone has an order of king-sized dumplings at their table. You're really missing out if you don't try them. Very large, but extremely soft and juicy filling. Tastes the best when you have some of their kimchi with each bite! The noodles are served in a rich, flavourful beef broth. My sister suggested this restaurant as she's been a few times and enjoys it. It was a first visit for me and it was okay. The menu is very limited so check before coming. I ordered the MD Kalguksu and tried some of the MD Dumplings, MD Bossam, Bibim Guksu, and Kimchi. MD Kalguksu - The portion is generous, you get a lot of noodles. The noodles were a bit too soft for my preference, but the broth was amazing. MD Dumplings - These dumplings are massive, and there's a good meat to dough ratio, however, I didn't love how crumbly the filling was as it made it seem slightly dry. The ladies that work here are amazing! We came as a large group to warm up with Korean Hot Pot. For $17.99 per person, 1 large pot is enough to feed 4 people. I loved the giant dumplings that were inside the pot but I also liked that there was a variety of veggies too. At the end, once all the things inside the pot was devoured, you could choose to mix egg and rice or their house made noodles. Both are equally delicious - the rice tasted like a Korean risotto and the noodles were chewy. I quite enjoyed both so it depends on which texture you're look long for! This is an excellent Korean restaurant with solid dumplings and noodles! It was a cool autumn day so we thought the warm noodles and dumplings would warm us up, we've also heard so many good things about the noodles and dumplings here so we had to try it out! We had to wait around 15 minutes and arrived around 12:30. Once we ordered the food came out pretty fast, but they were a bit slow to take our order. I split 6 dumplings with one of my friends and had the Myungdong Kalguksoo Noodles for myself. The dumplings were awesome! Slightly different than the usual Chinese dumplings but still familiar and so good and filling. Surprisingly, simple and tasty, but they provide a variety of sauces like a spicy sauce and soy sauce that you can add to enhance the dumplings flavour. The noodles were also great! It tasted super refreshing and I thought the noodles were the perfect texture and hardness while the soup itself was absolutely delicious. The dumplings were a bit expensive - IIRC it was $12 for 6. Myungdong Kalguksu is a local authentic Korean dumpling, noodle and hot pot joint that serves some fantastic Korean fare that I've been wanting to try for a while now. The menu is small but everything they serve is fantastic and homely. The Giant Korean Dumplings (Wang Mandu) are large thin skinned steamed dumplings stuffed with a wonderful ground pork and chive filling. An order comes in a set of six which in itself is enough as a meal for one. The Kalguksu is a delicious knife cut wheat noodle in a flavorful beef broth along with pieces of ground meat and veggies. To top it off they give you a big container of the most garlic intense home made kimchi that is made daily. Do not and I repeat do not go to an important date or meeting after you eat the kimchi as your breath will reek of garlic despite a ton of breath mints! Service is very efficient and the food comes out quickly. Price wise everything is reasonable as entrees are about $10 and hot pots are about $20. If you're craving korean dumplings then you really don't need to look any further because Myungdong Kalguksu has got you covered. With such a simple menu, they excel in what they do: ALL daily-made dumplings, noodles, and perhaps one of the best pot kimchi around. But that's all you need! You start off with kimchi in a cold, clay pot: it looks thick and rich with all that redness and garlic radiating. It isn't for the weak: It's spicy, it's bold, it's crunchy, this is some amazing kimchi. The garlic might be overpowering for some (we could still taste it the morning after!) but more garlic is always a blessing of extra flavour. Next comes the six large steamed mandu with heat and steam emitting from them. They're perfect dumplings. The skin perfectly encloses the large amount of filling and holds it quite well. It has a nice light chew to it and is neither too thick nor thin. The filling is magnificent as not what you would expect of a chinese or japanese dumpling. The ground pork filling is looser yet is incredibly moist and the chives and shallots were refreshing. Six dumplings was surprisingly enough and we were plenty full sharing three each. On the side of the table there was a sweet and sour vinegar, chili peppers, coarse salt, and some chili powder. The vinegar provided a pleasant sweetness and eaten together with the kimchi was delightful. Lastly we ordered the spicy guksu noodles which were absolutely spicy! Do not order this if you can't handle spice. The noodles were amazing and again, had the perfect amount of chewiness and bite. They were sitting in the spicy sauce and were served with spring mix greens and a half a boiled egg on the top. Service was efficient and seamless, and the value was excellent. Are you craving dumplings like I was today? Then definitely come pay this cute little local Korean restaurant a visit for their MASSIVE "King dumplings". Looking for some sort of "clean eats" that was nice and hot and satisfying, I found myself drawn to the Yelp pictures and reviews of this place. I ordered a dumpling and rice cake in soup and it was everything I expected it to be - not oily, not too salty, piping hot, and 100% satisfying. It was a filling meal and when paired with their homemade kimchi, the balance of tangy spice and savoury broth was delicious. I had no problem scarfing down all the food and it wasn't too expensive ($12 for my dumpling soup, $13 for the king dumplings alone).
