A Friend came to visit and watch the new Demonslayer movie. So we brought them here for a pre movie dinner as they never had something like this. Service 10/10 - today they had 3-4 waiters/waitresses working so there was always somebody coming in to check if things needed refills. Our waiter (sorry the name is escaping me.) was a newer parttime worker but was providing us 10 out of 10 service!! Food - 10/10 we got alot more sides than normal today for our friends to try. The tteokbokki was nice and had a deep flavor. Not too spicy and not too sweet. Rice balls was nice and soaked up the tteokbokki sauce. This time we got the half half with spicy bossam and Bbq jokbal. They were both really good flavors. The store had kpop playing at a moderate volume. Came here to introduce our friend to Jokbal. We ordered the half and half (spicy Jokbal and the garlic Jokbal) along with the seafood pancake. We love how the sides are refillable but I don't think we ever ask for refills more than twice as the portion is so generous. Hanyang Jokbal has always been consistently good, and it's why we always come back. The portion of food is always plenty, the taste is unmatched and the sides are delicious. While the food took some time it was understandable as it was very busy. The waiter was very apologetic about the wait. In terms of the interior, it's just one more thing that makes this place such a good dining option. The interior makes you feel like you're not in Toronto. While it does get quite loud, I think it just shows how much people are enjoying the food and the vibe. Hanyang Jokbal is definitely a must! read more

Came here on a snowy evening and it was quite quiet. We ordered a half and half (half bossam and half Jokbal) with the diy riceball and additional bowl of white rice. Sadly when the white rice arrived I think the bowl slipped from the staff's hand and we watched as it slow mo dropped to the booth seat and then rolled to the ground and spilled everywhere. We got a replacement right away though! Really do need a reminder to myself that next time should just get 100% Jokbal! My group tends to favour it more and it ran out faster than the bossam side. Refill of side dishes do come at a cost so I do wish the initial round came with more lettuce for making the wraps but otherwise other portions were good! read more

Found out about this place through social media and really wanted to try it since it looked delicious! We came on a Saturday around 6:15pm and got seated right away. By 6:30 though, there started being a wait for a table, so be sure to get there a little earlier to beat the rush! Tables can be a little close together with others unless you have a booth, so be mindful of that. We ordered the roasted jokbal with extra meat and DIY seasoned rice balls. Our food came decently on time. They also give you tea to drink with your meal. The food was pretty good - the DIY rice balls were amazing! However a few things went wrong during our visit. First, there was a moth in my lettuce. I let the server know and they apologized and brought us some new lettuce. Second, when we were about a third of the way through eating the jokbal, we were notified that we actually got the wrong order. We were eating BBQ jokbal and it didn't have the extra meat. Our options were to keep the BBQ jokbal or take the roasted jokbal with extra meat. We wanted to just switch the BBQ jokbal with the roasted jokbal without the extra meat, but we were told we couldn't. So we ended up just keeping the BBQ jokbal. We weren't offered any complementary appetizers or discount for the moth or for messing up our order. To me, this is not good customer service. Although the food was decent, I don't think I'll be back for that reason. This experience left me with a bad first impression. read more

Got the pork bone soup tower for 2 people. The picture doesn't do it justice because we knocked down the tower before taking a picture. The broth is very good and so was the meat. This is an amazing spot for traditional Jokbal! The portions were huge and the flavours were spot on! We also got a Gamjatang tower to share and it was perfect for the winter time. I love how quick the service was too; the food was served nice and piping hot. We definitely had leftovers even with four people sharing it and the food was reasonable priced. We tried the bbq jokbal - it was smokey and flavourful. I don't recommend adding the rice cake since it's not a saucey dish so the rice cake was kind of tasteless. If you want some carbs, def try the DIY rice balls. It was yummy and fun to make. Both dishes are big in portion, and they filled up 3 of us girls. Lettuce is unlimited. Looking for some specialty Korean food. This place serves up a variety of pork hock (leg) cooked in various methods and flavours. We called in earlier during the week to book a reservation. When we arrived the restaurant was not too busy about 3 tables of customers. By the end of the dinner the place was almost full. We order the Spicy Jokbal $42 + $4 rice cakes. The meal came with a spicy clear broth soup, lettuce, pickled turnips, some sort of spicy chives, and we asked for kimchi although we were told it doesn't come with the spicy jokbal. There was a gochuchang sauce and raw garlic and jalapeno peppers and another dipping sauce which I wasn't sure about. The meat was tender and the skin also so succulent. You can order a steam rice or DIY rice ball dish to offset the spice and savouryness of the jokbal dish. The appetizer or ban chan in Korean were refillable. We also got a refill on the green leaf lettuce. They had a promo on the pork bone soup $9.99 with any order from the menu. The soup had great texture and flavour. The bones had lots of meat. My wife and I enjoyed it however had we known there was a soup served with the jokbal we would have passed on it. Overall the service was attentive and friendly. The server apologized for the delay on our pork bone soup and offered to give us a free drink. So we got a free bottle of Sapporo for our troubles. Great cuatomer service goes a long way in keeping customers coming back for more. Well done Hanyang and your food was definitely worth it and we will be back! This plaza on silver star boulevard is pretty GOAT-ed tbh. There's SO many good restos in this particular plaza. Gyu Hito right next door happens to rank as one of my top 5 restos in the GTA. Deer garden (always a solid option; right next door) Came during an evening after my usual saturday badminton session with friends. My friends had already tried this place so they assured me it would be good. We ordered a BBQ jokbal with all the fixings (added rice cakes, sausages and cheese for additional cost), DIY riceballs, a seafood pancake and tacked on a gamjatang at a discounted price (because of a special promotion they had going on). This was the best jokbal I've had so far. The meat was so tender and succulent. You could taste the char and grill on the outside of the skin. The cheese was so satisfying to wrap around my meat (no pun intended). And they gave us a MASSIVE bone. Like I had to wonder to myself. THIS IS HOW JOKBAL SHOULD BE SERVED. I've gotten half a jokbal at a lot of places that cut corners. This was no joke. The DIY riceballs were also very tasty. They came to the table unmixed with mayo, nori, furikake seasoning, sesame seeds, green onions and tobiko (flying fish roe) on top. The server also gave us a glove to make balls ourselves (again no pun intended). The seafood pancake was decent (I've definitely had better). The outside could've been crispier but there was a good amount of seafood inside the pancake. The gamjatang was above avg imo. Definitely better than a chain joint like Owl of Minerva but it wasn't 5 star or anything. This was a good filler for us to get us to the "full" level. Overall, the jokbal is incredible and the riceballs are a must-try as well. Everything else is up to you and your appetite. When I come back, I'll try a different kind of jokbal. Hanyang Jokbal is a unique spot to get your fix of Korean braised pork hock. Hanyang was the prior name of Seoul, where this dish gained popularity. This is the second location following their North York location success. We ordered both the Braised Pork Hocks and the Spicy Grilled Pork Hocks. These were braised for hours ahead of time. The latter being flame grilled then cooked with gochujang & rice cakes added on. The meal started with a salty bean sprout soup that helped to cleanse the palate. Hocks aren't exactly my preferred cuts but these were well-seasoned, succulent gelatinous cuts without the typical gaminess. Lettuce wraps & garnishes such as kimchi, jalapeño, scallions were provided to balance out the meaty flavour. For some fun, our party added the DIY Seasoned Rice Balls which came with a variety of ingredients to mix using the provided plastic gloves. Such a great idea; the tasty rice balls were easy to make with furikake, nori, mayo, sesame & tobiko. This restaurant is located at 633 Silver Star Blvd plaza south of Pacific Mall. Be mindful that the road is disconnected south of here. An outdoor patio was available for our early dining. Came really late one night, I almost felt bad because I think they were planning to close soon. HOWEVER, they didn't mind at all and service was amazing. Got the Spicy Jokbal and Gamjatang (this one might've been a special). And they actually gave us a free order of the Mixed Rice Balls. The Spicy Jokbal is very flavourful, with a nice roasted flavour on top of the sweet and spicy sauce. Went great with the rice balls which tasted great and were fun to eat. After the first time I tried this restaurant, I was obsessed and went back a few more times in a very short period of time even though it's not that close to me haha. Hanyang Jokbal is a hidden gem in a plaza where there are many other bigger restaurants that have flashy signs. With their simple white and black sign, they can easily be overlooked. But don't be fooled! The food here is SO GOOD! I've tried the original, spicy and garlic flavours of the jokbal and bossam and I must say if you come here for the first time, definitely try the Original Jokbal first. The meat is so tender and flavourful, and you can make lettuce wraps with it and all the sides. I also recommend to get the Spicy Bossam (and add the extras!) because the original was a bit bland for my preference. For sides, I always get the DIY rice balls which my friends always love, and I also enjoyed the Oden soup before. The spicy cold noodles are also amazing! Overall, you should come with at least 6ish people as the portions are large and you can try more dishes with more people. Definitely come try the jokbal here! read more

DECLICIOUS EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE. I Don't know where to start but other than looking for a great place to enjoy a father's day dinner with family and couldn't decide what to eat and where. It's another Korean restaurant just like the others and boy was I wrong. We were greeted promptly at the door and were almost seated immediately, dropping in without any reservations is understandable it's no one's fault. Our orders came within 20 mins and we really enjoyed our dinner. Let's start with their side dishes I know for sure it's really fresh and crunchy. Their kimchi is made to perfection no sing of sourness and it's crunchy not too spicy. The pickled scallions are very good with a nutty flavor overall it's the freshest side dish you will ever have in any Korean restaurant. It's also not a fluke because we ordered at least 2x and same consistency. The seafood pancake is cooked to perfection firm and a little crunchy outside and inside is well done moist and not gooey like in other places. The mains dish pork hock is aldente not oily or fatty it's all meat and collagen. Taking a sliced of meat and wrapping it with a lettuce leaf with scallion kimchi with a dab of chili paste and shrimp sauce, one bite you can taste all the flavors exploding inside you mouth. Fresh clean and not aftertaste and feels light. The waiting staffs are attentive and eager to assist I felt like eating at a five start restaurant. In all for 4 people including tips $120 for 4 people is a good bargain especially in this time of economic inflation. Ordered the original Jokbal, a DIY Rice ball and a seafood pancake. Jokbal is trotter. It was nicely marinated. It tasted good with bean paste and slices of garlic wrapped with lettuce. DIY a rice ball. It came in a pan with white rice at the bottom of the pan, with chopped scallions, seaweeds, fish roes, sesame and mayonnaise on top. There one glove was provided. One had to put on the glove in one hand and mixed everything together, then rolled into a rice ball. It did taste good, especially made by oneself. Seafood pancake mainly had squid, scallions, flour and eggs mixed together and pan fried the mixture. It's quite filling. Among the three dishes. I loved the trotter the most. read more

There's a limited number of tables so you may have to wait a bit during peak meal times. The pork bone soup tower itself was delicious, with large portions of pork bone, potato, and delicious soup. My only minor complaint is that it was a bit on the spicier side. They also offer the standard Korean complimentary side dishes as well as a wide variety of flavoured sojus. The first day/ night of baseball playoffs took us to a late dinner at my old stomping ground - The plaza on Silverstar where (from direct translated Cantonese, which sounds just plain weird in English) 'I have left many leg hair' as a teenager have had a major facelift in terms of the (few) number of business that have survived the test of time. If my memory serves correct, only the book store, bakery and dessert place remains. Hanyang Jokbal is another Korean restaurant that have popped up in the plaza. Because Jokbal is in their name, I'm obligated to try their version of it. We were hoping to get the gamjatang as well, which they had a special on, but they were sold out by the time we arrived just before 9pm, so we opted with a serving of rice ball instead. Between the two dishes, there's a recurring theme: heavy salt content. I've had enough Korean food to know that it is saltier in nature. Even considering that, it a bit too much for me, especially for the rice balls. It's pretty hard to mess up rice balls (if you don't know for Korean rice balls, they give you the rice and toppings and you have to mix and roll it into balls yourself) considering that the mayo, seaweed, sesame, scallion, fish roe and bonito flakes should do the talking for you. It tasted fine , but it was way too salty for my liking. The Jokbal was good. It had a strong soy base , however I found it a bit one dimensional in flavour. Again a bit too salty for my liking (even with the lettuce, before adding and sauce). Texture wise the meat could still be a bit more tender. Perhaps I walked in with higher expectations and there's a certain degree of let down here. To be objective, downing some 'adult beverages' could have potentially neutralized the salt level a bit, but as mostly a non-drinking, it's just a bit much for me. If I have a Jokbal craving in the future, I'd be looking elsewhere instead. read more

We've tried their regular jokbal from the Yonge street location and it was superb. This time, we were dining in in the Scarborough location and without our picky eater, so we opted to try the garlic jokbal. Their jokbal is really second to none as the meat is so tender and the gelatinous skin, when eaten warm adds such a lovely texture to the whole expérience. With that said, the garlic sauce that accompanied the jokbal was not my favorite. I expected à zippier sauce with more garlicky kick but the sauce that came resembled à chunky, sweet apple sauce. The fried garlic chips also did not add much to the dish. I am partial to savoury flavours than sweet so I didn't really enjoy the sauce experience. Also, the lettuce and kimchi, if you need extras for your wrap, are at additional cost. I find that their bean sprout soup has a very odd spiciness to it that I don't particularly love but since it's complimentary, I won't say more. We'll likely continue to visit to try out their other jokbal offering though so see you soon, HYJB! read more

Regardless of what culture you're from, chances are you've had some form of pigs feet. Chinese people love braised pigs feet, and I am no exception. However Korean jokbal takes "pork hock" to a whole new level. This has been on my list FOREVER and wow... just wow. It definitely lives up to the hype. Sorry my pictures don't even do it justice (I was really hungry lol) We had: Spicy grilled braised pork hocks: It's flavorful, tender, fatty, savoury and slightly sweet; Literally sooooooo good, the portion was supposed to be for 2, but it was enough for 4 of us with leftovers to take home. You can also wrap the jokbal with some lettuce and add some radish and other banchan for a "healthier" alternative DIY Rice balls: What seems to be something so simple was actually delicious, the rice was slightly creamy from the mayo, the seaweed added some umami, the fish roe added texture, and the green onions and sesame seeds added a good amount of fragrance too. Seafood Pancake: I found these to be good but average, I prefer the dipping sauce to be sweeter Oden Soup: I usually love Korean fishcake soup, however I found this to be too sweet. The complimentary bean sprout soup was actually better I would 1000% come back for just their jokbal and rice balls alone, those items and their banchan with a side of soup is enough for a hearty and delicious meal. read more
