This has to be my favourite Korean Restaurant of all time! Perhaps it's because of the kimchi. It's on the sweeter side and I can truly eat so much of this because it's not that spicy, mild for sure. We always order the chicken katsu box, pork bone soup, and boneless chicken soy from time to time. The chicken katsu I feel got better and better as time passed. The pork bone soup is almost always tender and falls right off the bone. It's absolutely delicious. The boneless chicken soy kind of got worse as time went by. They gave big pieces of boneless chicken the first few times we got it, now they give small pieces of chicken, good portion of course, but some of the pieces were just batter. It is tender though so that's not too bad. I completely forgot to take pics but I will be ordering here again. Forgot to take them because we devour the food immediately as soon as they arrive... Absolutely LOVED this place!! Ventilation was good so it didn't feel stuffy. It's a very causal, homey kinda feel. The server lady was very nice. She speaks cantonese. She checked if we enough side dishes and all! Lamb was very good, and it was a $23.99 combo to pair with the mini pork bone soup, which was very filling and tasty! Although mini, it was still a good portion. I was told that the bibimbap was amazing and it was very hearty. I'd def come back. The food here isn't bad and i believe they are still doing a 20% off promotion for any items. I would recommend getting their soups, as it comes with a lot of ingredients, and with a bowl of rice. Their jampong is also really big and has a lot of filling. The Korean fried chicken also isn't bad for the price. Wish it came with a bit more sauce but it was really crispy. Definitely don't get the combo though! I got the beef bulgogi combo and is it was so tiny. The soup and the sizzling plate were both small. I understand that it is a combo but it's not worth not. The first time I went the service good, and the second time I went the service was really slow so just depends on whose working that day. This place was really not what we expected. It really is one of those hole in the wall restaurants, that turns out to be a hidden gem. Our waitstaff was incredible and friendly, and so knowledgeable. We ordered to pork bone broth, which my dining partner absolutely loved. The meat was fall off the bone. The broth was spiced to perfection, and it came with a bunch of side dishes, potatoes in some sweet sauce, kimchi, chopped sweet radish, and a few other, and a small bowl of rice. I got the medium half and half chicken pieces, which was absolutely amazing! The fried chicken is perfect! Super juicy, crunchy and so well flavoured. I got the sweet and spicy, which was really nice, but I wish it was just a touch spicier, but my goodness it was perfectly sauces too! It wasn't drowning, but every piece was sauced. We really enjoyed our experience here both for the food and the service and can't wait to come back for some more fried chicken! A neighbourhood mom and pop Korean restaurant that tastes so homemade and comforting. Started with their fried chicken which came in small pieces and fried to perfection - super crispy. It's not the best fried chicken compared to other KFC spots that only specialize in KFC, but it's quite a nice touch to a hearty, warm comforting soupy meal. There's five banchans including, daikon, sugar potatoes, kimchi, seaweed and fish cake. The fish cake are the best banchan imo! What I really came for was the gamjatang! Got the hot pot size for 2 which was too much food BUT was great for taking home as another meal afterwards. It comes with lots of pork bone pieces, a cabbage and soup. This should really be rated 3.5 stars, I didn't round up to 4 because I like the taste of food better when ran by the previous owner a few years back... Ya, nostalgia. We come to this restaurant once in a while when in the neighborhood for nearly 10 years, even before they changed to the current owner a few years back. In short, It's just a small Korean family restaurant offering a traditional menu and bbq, plus a fried chicken menu. The place feels like a nicely run family restaurant, cleanly kept after all these years. 3.5 stars. Food is usually ok, not the best when compared to other Korean restaurants I've been to. But it's good enough for us to come back thru all these years. They offer a pretty good selection of side dishes. IMO, the traditional dishes are better than their fried chicken. 3.5 stars The price is on par with inflation, unfortunately this means it's not a cheap meal. My friends and I came on a sat night after badminton. The resto is located on Silver Star with the always packed parking lot (just park at No Frills, iykyk). 2 of my friends used to frequent this resto a lot back when it was called Ga Bin. They told me that they would often come here to order table bbq and the owner would always give them food on the house for being VIP regulars. Anyways, the resto was super packed but we somehow got a booth in corner (the setup is funky; you enter through the main door and then it's built like a U-shape so you have to walk around the tables in the middle, up near the cash register before getting to where we were sat). Anyways, there were 6 of us and we JUST fit into one booth. There was literally 1 male server manning the entire front of house the whole dinner period and we felt sooo bad for him! He was running around by himself to help all the tables. Gamjatang: So inflation has basically sent the price of pork bone soup to the moon. I remember when you could get a bowl for ~$8.99 at any korean resto. Now you're seeing restos charging 13.99 or more for a bowl. Seems kinda ludicrous to me but it is what it is. The good thing this place has going for it, is that they give you quite a lot of meat (I feel like they stack more bones in your bowl than most restos). Flavour-wise my friend said it was just ok. Gamjatang ramen: Friend who ordered this said he would've rather gotten regular gamjatang as he felt my other friend got more bones than him (so he was kinda salty that he got jipped on meat). The ramen is also shin ramyun. Saewoo bokkeumbap: I have no idea why my friend felt like trying this. It looked mediocre on the menu and sure enough, it also didn't taste that great. I gotta give the resto credit though. The rice looked exactly like it did in the menu picture lol. Bibimbap: Smaller bibimbap portion than what I've seen offered at other family-run korean restos. The rice also didn't completely crisp up on the bottom and the toppings were scarce so it felt slightly like a rip-off. Kalbitang: They gave me 4 bones with quite a bit of meat on them and the meat also slid off easily with just a slight tug. My gripe with this dish is that there wasn't enough glass noodles and the broth also tasted like hot water w/ added salt and pepper. Jinmee (which closed down in markham) and Huh Ga Ne in Koreatown in north york both have a kalbitang that absolutely blows this one out of the water. Yukgaejang: My friend's gf ordered this and while it was quite tasty, she too, also remarked that it felt like she was skimped on ingredients. Half & half chicken: For the 2 flavours we got honey garlic and original fried. The waiter asked us if we would like "wings" or "boneless". We said boneless. I think the menu for the kfc is misleading as others have pointed out, simply because it shows large bone-in chicken pieces but what we got were basically dark meat slivers in this weird cut up way (it almost felt like they served us chicken skins w/ meat attached to them). Idk if this was unique to K06 but I've never had korean fried chicken served to me in small cutup slivers rather than chunks. Flavour-wise it was pretty standard. Tasted nice. Quite crispy. The banchan was nothing special to write home about. Myungdong Kalguksu and Sungwon in Unionville are still the king of banchan and nothing has swayed my mind so far haha. I think the service by our waiter is what kept this review at 3 stars and not lower. He was absolutely swamped and topped off our banchan even though supposedly he said they don't do refills on banchan normally. After tax and tip I paid around $35 for my meal. Do I think it was worth it? I can't say that it was. In my honest opinion, if I closed my eyes and you paired this food w/ items from Owl of Minerva, I don't think I'd be able to taste the difference. They DO give a big portion for the gamjatang though. If I ever did visit again I think I'd order that because you get the most bang for your buck. read more

Went to Ho Ban with a couple of friends. Looks like a place for traditional Korean dishes including table grilled meats, hot pots or just the classic Korean foods. We tried the staples to compare with other Korean restaurants. Pork bone soup - Some great pork bone soup, with generous portions of pork neck. Bone was fully cooked and easily falls off. Soup was good and flavourful, a safe item for this restaurant. Tteokbokki - Sweet and spicy chewy rice cakes mmmm. Has all the standard ingredients: including fish tofu and a boiled egg. Would recommend! Side dishes - There were 5 in total, in order of preference: fish tofu, potatoes braised potatoes, bean sprout, seaweed, kimchi. The fried chicken was a lot better than I thought, I didn't have high expectations. I didn't like the honey garlic. The yangnyeom was pretty solid but a bit too tangy compared to other places. The green onion stole the show. Atmosphere - 4/5 This is one of those rare places where you could easily go on a date or go with a group of friends. I do think it's better with more people so you can try more stuff. It gives off a classic Korean family resto vibe that I enjoyed. First of all, there was a lack of green and potato. Just 3-4 big pieces of weirdly flavoured pork with no potato (just some bits) and no greens. The pork was seared? Like on a pan beforehand and taste like liquid smoke (the agent people cure sausages and hotdogs with for a artificial smokey taste) The pork bulgogi was very minimal with little meat and wasn't filling. The chapche was fine but I'm not sure why a stir fry noodle dish is served with rice. The service was fine, they seemed busy with take out orders. The service here was very fast and we had six appetizers before us in no time. They were really good and it was nice to have so much variety while we waited for our dishes. Our food arrived before we even finished the apps! The BBQ beef short ribs were great! They tasted great and the meat was tender enough that it wasn't too difficult to eat off the bone. For the longest time, I thought this plaza had only one Korean restaurant. It wasn't until a few weeks ago, we walked around the plaza looking for food did we find this restaurant. The exterior of this place is covered in Korean food photos and for some reason we have always missed the entrance. This time however, we finally tried it and were we not disappointed! In fact, we were absolutely in for a treat. We ordered the bulgogi hotpot for two people. When the hotpot came, we were shocked by how much food the restaurant was able to stack into the pot. It was filled to the brim. Not only was the food excellent but the servers were all super friendly and did not hesitate when we asked for more side dishes. This was a very significant change from some of the places that we have been to lately. I was extremely impressed by this place. A few days later, we returned for another hotpot. This time we ordered the pork bone soup hotpot and WOW. The food was excellent once again. Upon arrival, you have to show the proof (NOT THE QR CODE as they don't have anything to scan with) along with a piece of ID to the host. Once you got the all clear, you then have to scan the QR code for contact tracing. (Takeout Review) Between two people, there were 4 meticulously organized side dieshes/banchans given for take-out. We were presented with bean sprouts, kimchi, the softest fish cake, and crispy sweet potato balls.The sweet potato balls were the most delicious side I've ever eaten. I wish they had it as an appetizer because I would order it on its own too. The cabbage in the kimchi was crisp whose flavour was set off by the chilli paste. Japchae was mia but I think they do have it during other times according to other reviews. Also to note, when dining in, they serve 6 unlimited refill side dishes. The Pork Bone Soup served with white rice on the side was delicious and well seasoned. It comes with 4 massive generous pork bone pieces with tender fall off the bone meat. Haven't been back since they were called Gabin so decided to visit them on the last day before dine-in is closed in Ontario. For some reason, I thought they were located on the other side of Silver Star. Also gone are the days where you can get Kamjatang for just $8.99 with a drink. The prices have gone up cuz of Covid and most Korean restaurants are now charging at least $12.99 for the dish. Good thing, Ho Ban Kamjatang had tons of meat on their and the bones were huge! The soup also was piping hot. Definitely one of my favourite place for Pork Bone Soup! Place was super busy when I got there at 6pm and only one guy was manning the whole restaurant taking order, serving dine-in, doing takeout and answering the phone. He kept apologizing to me as he was busy bringing out food to the other patrons as he couldn't get to me yet. Kudos for him doing everything and in efficient speed. Restaurant should hire another employee as they clearly are quite busy. I also ordered the Beef Bulgogi with rice but was a little bit disappointed and usually, I enjoyed this dish a lot. Not sure why I wasn't digging it as much but I still ate it :D Maybe it was lacking sauce. They also started serving Korean Fried chicken on their menu. However, their chicken is not big pieces but actually Boneless / Bone-In Wings even though the pics displayed on the wall and on the menu looked like big pieces of chicken (bone-in). I ended up with their Half Half special and I quite enjoyed the boneless option I didn't have a good experience before ordering boneless but their chicken was well fried and took time to come out. Great restaurant for Korean food. Love their boneless fried chicken, we've only tried the Yangnyeom style but that's typically our favourite. The chicken is lean but tender, and the coating is saucy but crispy. Our other go to items are the Beef Bulgogi Dupbap (marinated beef sirloin) and Sundubu Jigae (soft tofu soup), great classics. It's also great that they have combos such as the Godeunguh (grilled mackerel) served with choice of soup or stew. They also have Korean bbq and we've tried their Moksal (sliced Boston butt) and Saeng Kalbi (sliced boneless ribs). Just thr pork and soup. The jajangmyun was bland. Only had like 2 pcs of pork in it with lots of onions. La kalbi on sizzling plate was served to us with raw onions unserneath the kalbi, and meat was cold. I mean thr pkate wasnt even hot. I asked the server if they can fix this cause plate wasnt evrn hot, onions rae..she came back and thry literally just cooked the onions and gavr food back..kalbi still cold. Everything was so flavourless..even the side dishes. The potato with the sweet slime on it was so gross i spat it out. Place isn't worth it. Won't be coming back. Wow, talk about efficiency! I came here on a Friday night and the restaurant was packed inside and also had several tables outside. The waitresses were so quick on their feet, running around to make sure everyone is served and all covid protocols are followed. We got our orders quickly as well. I ordered a gamjatang ramen which was delicious (I mean, you can't go wrong with ramen), but it didn't really feel like pork bone soup to me flavour wise. Tasted more of ramen soup base with 2 pork bones in it. Still tasty none the less. We also ordered a seolleongtang, which was great flavour wise, but I found the meat a little dry and tough. Overall though, no big compliants and I was had a great meal. The 20% off they were offering for reopening was a nice bonus as well (it runs until sept 30)! Solid spot. So good, we've gone back every week since our first order! Thoroughly enjoyed every dish. Not pictured is the Korean fried chicken that we tried our second time and OMG it was delicious! We had the soy garlic and it was great. Crispy, juicy and good flavor. We also especially like the seafood yaki udong. I give this restaurant a 3.5 star rating (rounding up for the sake of consistency and convenience, but major thing to note is that a good environment lacks during prime time here). Gabin is always hands down my go to place for Korean food in Scarborough based on the options in the city. You can always expect that you'll get a good fix, as the food quality is consistent and the menu options are a good mix of everything (soups, noodles, hot pot, kbbq). The side dishes they give is also a good quantity and variety. However, in a general sense this probably would not be my first choice if you are willing to travel a bit further. As the restaurant is small and has limited seating, if you come during a busy time it definitely will hinder your experience. Efficiency is very clearly a priority when it comes to service here. Though everything comes very fast, the servers aren't personable and only check in on you when waved over. The vibe you get is that they want to serve you your food and have you out so they can serve the next set of customers ASAP. If you come at a busy time, expect to be told to grab your bill at the front and rushed out the moment they see you are finished eating. With this being said, I wouldn't choose to come here if you want somewhere with a good environment where you can take your time to converse. If you just want decent korean food at an affordable price, this place will do the job. read more

I love when the broth is a bit slushy around the outside and theres plenty of pickled radish and cucumber (YUM). This place was close to work so we gave it a try. The broth had flavor but wasn't very slushy, and it could have used some more meat. But overall it still satisfied my cold noodle craving. read more

This is still a good spot to satisfy my Korean cravings. I have to say, the food after my first review was a bit hit or miss, but the last few visits were better. I keep saying I'm going to try something different, but I always order my go-to Gamjatang (Korean Pork Bone soup) with a side order of boneless KFC (Korean Fried Chicken). Formerly known as GaBin, this place has gone down in terms of food quality while prices have gone up. Everything inside is roughly the same, except the cushions on the booths are now one big piece as opposed to the loose, individual cushions from before. There are now hanging dividers between booths, but it's not really necessary since the seat backs are pretty tall. Priced decently at the time of writing because of the ongoing discount. Otherwise, it's not particularly enticing. read more

I love this spot for comfy Korean meals like K fried chicken and bibimbap. Really affordable and quick service.

I have had lunch here a several times a while back. It seem like they had done some renovation, new Korean grill for smoke free bbq. They had the fridge by the entrance showing some meat they are aging, they call it "Dry Age" beef for the Korean bbq. Looked like good quality meat , unfortunately I didn't get a chance to try it due to time constraint having to get back to work. I ordered the GamJaTang ( my favorite). Nice family owned restaurant, and included 6 side dishes which were all so good! they change it up with different dishes once in a while. This time Instead of the potato, they had the fried potato ball. My gamjatang had 4 huge bones!!!! They were all very meaty! The soup was delicious, and it was such a satisfying meal in this cold snowy weather. Mom had ordered J3 Bulgogi, which was also delicious. The food definitely improved a lot, at least it felt so much tastier than the last time I came. Will be back for another lunch!! read more

Pros: Solid Korean Restaurant in Scarborough Cons: Very busy during peak times (Restaurant and Parking) Usually when you think Korean restaurants you think Yonge and Finch as well as Christie station. If you go for Korean anywhere else, it's a bit of crap shoot. Ga Bin is one of the best Korean restaurants I've found in Scarborough. Ga Bin is located at in a Chinese based plaza with a bunch of other restaurants. There's also a food court as well in this plaza. The parking lot this plaza has is nowhere near how much parking they actually need for all the clients in the plaza. During peak lunch and dinner times, it's always an adventure to look for parking. The restaurant itself is also very busy. This place is super popular among the locals. Unfortunately, Korean food isn't the fastest turnover kind of meal too. We came for a lunch on a Saturday and it was packed. After the lunch rush, the amount of people is much more manageable. I totally recommend coming during non peak times. You want to know how serious this place is about their table BBQ? They have a special fridge right in the front that dry ages all their meat. My family came for the Gamjatang, but I'm totally tempted to come and get the table BBQ now. As I mentioned, we came for Gamjatang. 2 bowls were ordered as well as a Japchae noodle and side of Agetofu. You get 6 side dishes which I believe are unlimited refills here. The Gamjatang is pretty solid here. It's not the best I've ever had, but it's up there. I was actually very surprised by the Agetofu here. It was done very well. Nice and crispy on the outside. Service here is pretty good for how busy they are. There's about 2 or 3 ladies working the entire place. When it's get super busy, they can fall behind a little bit. They do get the job done in my opinion. We enjoyed our entire meal and experience here. All in all, Ga Bin is definitely a place to check our if you're a fan of Korean restaurants. I will definitely be back to try the table BBQ and update my review accordingly. read more

I've been to many restaurants for Korean food but hands down this has gotta be the best one ever hitting the spot with food AND price point. This is also the only other place that I've eaten (other than Seoul Soul in the Waterloo plaza back in university) that serves the crispy sweet potatoes as a refillable side dish - literally to die for! It's located in a plaza along with many other restaurants with ample parking. Their staff are generally really friendly and attentive. I've tried their jiang jiang noodles, bulgogi, and bibimbap. Every meal I've had here I've left full and satisfied. Would totallyrecommend this place to anyone! read more

Tasty Korean food. Portions sizes were pretty big and prices were reasonable. The side dishes were also good. We really enjoyed the gamjatang hotpot as the portion was big and soup was refillable. Service was good too. read more
