Mzl dental is the best dental office in Peabody! The dentists and staff are amazing and are very helpful

Updating my review for a second time. This one is from an overall dental insurance and dental practice review. I finally resolved the $60 cancellation charge. Visited the office and needed an endo procedure. However the referral was done and not knowing that although they can book the referral the referral could be out of network and it's the customers responsibility to ask the referred office are they within network which makes no sense in my opinion. I accept the cost but what I paid for this referral, although the endo office customer service was great, was very costly. I'm done with this organization. What's done is done and to say it's a customer's responsibility while referring but not making them aware that the office they are referring could be out of network is irresponsible business practice. However I' will need not to worry about this anymore as all future appointments will be canceled. However I feel the dental insurance process and codes are flawed and that is being nice. I will pay my bill to endo and be done with this. This dental process in the end was robbery is my thought. I paid more with one procedure than two years worth of high in network plan coverage. read more

Dentists were great. Front desk LOST our business of 3 kids after twelve years, over 19 dollars. Some counter staff are rude and don't care. Dr Largo and Kuhnen are terrific but they could do better at the door. read more

My three children have been going to MZL dental for 15 years. Dr. Lago and his staff are always professional and very knowledgeable. They answer all my questions and my kids are always happy going to see them. We always leave there having a positive experience even when someone needs a cavity filled! I highly recommend MZL dental to anyone needing a little extra TLC. read more

My child told me the first time we went in that he didn't feel welcomed. Every time we've been there the staff has been rude with the exception of the office staff. I don't recommend this office. read more

I've been going to this place for forty+years. Alway wonderful. And the cherry on top is Marilyn Monroe/manson. She makes doing business with this highly talented group of dentists fun. We took our kids there 6 months ago - ages 2.5 and 4. My little one was scared and did not last through the cleaning. Today we went in and was told right when we walked through the door that they wanted to have the dentist do an exam before the cleaning to be sure that he would be able to see her in case she got scared again. I told them that I cared more about the cleaning than the dentist, and because we pay out of pocket I did not want any unnecessary costs. The hygienist went on to explain that by law, my child has to be seen by the dentist, and would I be ok with him doing an exam even if she is crying? I said no, if she is crying she will not see the dentist. I also suggested that we play it by ear to see how she does. The cleanings went great. Then we had to wait 20 minutes for the dentist to come in. I asked him if it was by law that he had to examine my girls' teeth. He said that yes, it is a law. When I explained that we pay out of pocket, and the hygienist didn't see any cause for concern, he said that maybe he should go look up to see what the law states. While we waited for him to go look up this *law*, I decided to jus pay for the cleanings and leave. As we walked out he came out and said that it was not a law, just an office policy and agreed that we should find a dentist that is a little more flexible. So we will now look for a new dentist. :) read more

I was incredibly disappointed by this office. My toddler had his first official dental appointment scheduled at this office. I was in the parking lot trying to get him out of the car, when I received a phone call from the office - four minutes after my scheduled time. Seeing that we were now four minutes late I just picked him up and brought him in. I checked in and was told to have a seat. Around 12:15 a family with two children walked in and a minute later were called back. By 12:28 I asked the front desk how much longer it would be for my son's appointment, as he was nervous about the visit and I was told that the dentist took the "scheduled" patient since we were a few minutes late and that we need to call next time. When I asked how much longer it would be given that I have childcare for my other child and need to let them know, I was told 15 more minutes before he was even seen. I have never experienced this treatment in any office in my entire life. He is a toddler having his first appointment - I would expect that there would be a four minute grace period for getting him in the door! There were 11 minutes between our entrance and the next patient walking in - it is not as if they were waiting there at 12:04 and they were taken instead because they were here before us. I have never been skipped for an appointment due to being a few minutes late, especially with a child. I understand that being on time is important for these providers, however at a minimum we should have been told upon check-in that because we were four minutes late it would be a 45minute wait before we could be seen. This is supposed to be a pediatric friendly office and it could not have been more the opposite. read more

if you value your dental health avoid this practice at all costs. up until recently i had been going to MZL since i was a child. for however many years when i had been going i was told that i had been brushing fine and have had occasional cavities filled. recently cavities were found in my wisdom teeth. unfortunately the dentist said he would not be willing to fill them. this made me seek another local dentist to do the filling and boy am a glad i did. the new dentist found over $18,000 worth of work done that has gone unnoticed by MZL. decay was found on every single tooth if not underneath a cavity. this includes not only cavities but also multiple crowns and a root canal. if the issues had been acknowledged sooner it would not have gotten this bad. they apparently don't take appropriate x-rays and again have been telling me i have been brushing well so i assumed my teeth were not this bad. if i had not left as soon as i did i would have ended up with all my teeth falling out. i have also gotten every single piece of work on the sheet verified by a second dentist as well as my orthodontist who is a family friend. went back to the MZL offering to stay if they would have provided a discount for the work needed and the answer i was given was no. who knows if they actually were this careless or if they were waiting for everything to get worse so they could squeeze more money out of me. *picture of bill under photos section* read more

This practice came very highly recommended by my kids pediatrician. A few of our friends poo pooed claiming the office was not kid friendly. However- when you walk in to the office- you can tell this office cares about kids. Dr. Lago is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. He is very patient and kind to my kids. He is very easy going and is down to earth with his answers. I would be remiss if I did not give a shout out to the secretaries. They are so nice and are good for a joke. My kids love going every six months! read more

I am finding a new dentist, they don't care about the patient and they are not the only dentist around, I had a balance on my account and requested a refund check be sent, I never received, when making an appointment to have my kids teeth cleaned I requested the refund and noticed that it was quite lower than before, they explained that it was a missed appointment fee deducted from the balance, ok MZL, you keep that missed appointment fee and I will take my business elsewhere read more

I couldn't be happier we are patients here. My 9 yr old son had to have his 1st cavity filled. Dr. Kuhnen and the Assistant (I forget her name) were so AMAZING. They kept my son calm throughout, were incredibly patient with him and walked him through each step. They made it painless for him. They also both had great personalities and engaged with him which really helped. I have been with this practice since my son started and I am glad I am. Every staff member whether it be office, Hygienists or Dentists have been terrific. I highly recommend them. read more

We've been with Drs. Merle, Zicherman and Largo for over twenty years now (my youngest is 8). The Peabody office has been great helping my two children who have anxiety and another who is on the spectrum overcome the hurdles of getting their cleanings and a couple of cavities taken care of. My third child has recently gotten braces so we have also experienced Jody and the Lynn office. I have found all of the hygienists to be compassionate and professional. We tend to favor Dr. Largo now that only two see pediatric dentists; they find Dr. largo funny and approachable. Marilyn at the Peabody office has been great as I've tried to juggle two kids' cleanings in Peabody and orthodonture in Lynn. I highly recommend checking them out if you're in need of a pediatric dentist. read more

If your insurance will approve (xrays, cleanings, fillings)... their dentists will not miss it and send you a timely billing statement. Expect non-covered suggestions for night guards, bonding, charges for cancellations($25.00), full-cost charge for a lost retainer (dentist visit required). Might be great dentistry but it gets old. If your child is sick, they will say our dentists/hygienists wear masks... Positives: Convenient location and ample parking, they take all major dental insurance plans, competent dentists, nice hygienists, and fish tank in waiting area. read more

We have been going to this dentist for at least 6 years. It's sad there quick to lose customers and don't seem to care about keeping their patients. We were very happy with the care we received from Dr. Largo but we are extremely dissatisfied with the office manager and the girl that schedules follow up appts. I have a child with an anxiety condition that requires me to be in the room with him. This office does not like when parents are in the room with their kids. When scheduling a future appt for my kids I was informed that since I go in the room with them I would be only allowed to make a morning appt or up to 2:20 in the afternoon and I couldn't make one on Saturday. I told them that my children are school aged and I'm not going to take them out of school for an appt. they said that's their policy. Well, we'll take our business else where. read more

All the negative reviews you read on here are definitely true. I used to take my child to the dentist here years ago and they verbally berated my son for not wearing his elastics "24 hours a day." No high school student is going to wear multiple elastic bands in their mouth that often. When his teeth weren't moving enough, Dr. Finelli chastised him and yelled until the entire room stopped and looked. These dentists are all cocky, miserable people. I recently changed to North Star Dental in Danvers and they are amazing. So nice and personable. They actually take a few minutes to relax and talk with you. read more

I have been bringing my daughter to this dentist since she was a baby, til now age 17. I love it here. The doctors and staff are great and I've never had a problem with any of them. My daughters has had all her preventatives done here and has never had a cavity! Love Love Love read more

After reading all these horrible yelp reviews, I decided to try this place anyway because my pediatrician recommended them. Well, that was a big mistake on my part because these people are rude and they don't care about the patient. My 2 year went there once and when I tried to schedule a follow up appointment, the receptionist was beyond rude and kept repeating how children his age could only be seen early in the morning between 9 and 11. She told me there were no Saturday appointments until September and refused to even listen to my request for a late morning appointment because of my work schedule. After my conversation with her, I never want to step foot inside that office again. I'm sure there are plenty of dentists in my area willing to accommodate working parents. read more

I have been going to see Dr Merle for my girls for 15 years and love him. All three of my girls love going to the dentist!

Okay, here is my tale: I have been taking my daughter to MZ Associates since she was 4. She is now 9. Over the years, we have had issues with the bedside manner of some of the dentists (the hygienists have always been great). We kept going back, because it was convenient, and I believed they knew what they were doing. My daughter has always been nervous at the dentist, but she had never needed anything more than some cleanings and x-rays, so all was well. Six months ago, I was told that my daughter had to have two teeth extracted to make some room, and at the same visit, when my daughter expressed some fears about this, I was told not to talk about it. "We know how to explain it to kids in a way that makes them comfortable." A couple of weeks before the extraction, I received a letter from MZ with a list of procedural things in preparation. Again, they stressed NOT to talk to my child in detail about the procedure. They would do it. Of course, I answered a few of my daughter's questions that came up, but I avoided details, because "THEY KNOW HOW TO EXPLAIN IT." So, the day of the procedure, my husband takes my daughter to the dentist, sends her back with the hygienist, and sits down to read a magazine. He said he got through two pages of the magazine (if that) when the hygienist came out and said, "The dentist said he cannot do it. You will have to go to an oral surgeon." My husband goes back to get my daughter. She shrugs at him, confused. She has no idea why they are not doing the procedure. My husband asks Dr. Markos what happened, and he says, "She is being uncooperative. You'll have to go to the oral surgeon." My husband could not believe that they didn't want to try it with him in the room or anything creative like that, but he said that Dr. Markos was annoyed about another patient who showed up late, and he seemed so frazzled that my husband didn't even want him to do anything to my daughter at that point. I call home to find out how it went. My daughter is crying and upset. I ask what happened. She says, "He walked in and put a mask on me. He never said what he was doing. Then he left the room, and when he came back, he took the mask off me and told me to open my mouth. I thought that HE thought he had given me the laughing gas already, but he didn't, and I didn't want him trying to take my teeth out without the laughing gas. So, I didn't open my mouth, and then he turned to the nurse and said, 'Yeah, I don't have time for this.' Then, he got Pop and they told us to go somewhere else." So, I call the dentist to find out what happened. The receptionist puts me on hold to get my daughter's file. When she comes back, she says, "I don't know what happened. It says here that your daughter was combative." Combative? This is what they put in her file. So, I say, "Can I talk to Dr. Markos?" Lots of time on hold, and then she comes back and says that "he stepped out", but I could talk to the hygienist. What a jerk this guy is to put the poor hygienist on to talk to me instead of talking to me himself. I explain that I am not mad at her, but that I am very upset with Dr. Markos. I followed the instructions and trusted them to explain the procedure to my daughter. I have paid out of pocket for every cleaning, x-Ray, whatever they told me for five years, and I now have a kid who is even more scared of dentists than when we started, AND she still has the darn teeth in her head. I said, "Why would she open her mouth for him? He hadn't even introduced himself to her, much less explained the procedure." The poor hygienist all but admitted that Dr. Markos was having a bad day, and that he took it out on a nine year old girl. She kept saying, "You should bring her back in and try with a different dentist." Seriously?! I told her that unfortunately, we wouldn't be back. I also requested that either Dr. Markos or one of the other dentists call me to address my concerns. That was two months ago. No call. From anyone. Apparently, they don't care about losing a great customer (my daughter is going to need all sorts of dental care). I got a new dentist. Those teeth were out at the first visit. If you cannot handle minor fears of kids, do not call yourself a pediatric dentist. read more

We've been a patient of Dr. Lago's for at least 7 years and let me tell you Dr. Lago is the absolute best! He has a unique chair-side manner where he connects with kids; trust me, my son has had absolute ZERO fear of the dentist since we started seeing Dr. Lago. In fact, my son looks forward to his appointments. There are video games and a giant fish tank in the waiting area and the office staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Marilyn is excellent, she definitely knows her stuff and will help you with your insurance and scheduling needs. She is awesome! read more

They are worst in customer service. First time they gave me appointment for dental hygiene after 3 months and when I reached there they told me I missed my appointment. As I was late. I told them I was on time but they wouldn't believe me. I had to show appt card ( luckily I had it on me ) to make them believe that they did give me this time and I was on time. Again next time I called them from road that I m 5 mins away from their place so I will be litlle late, as a courtesy call as I was stuck in traffic. They told me they could not take me any more as I was 5 mins late..... Wht is this a military training or wht? They don't care if you have a genuine reason like getting struck in traffic. Every time I go there I have new cavities or something broken or some problem... I really don't believe this anymore..... I highly not recommend this place.. Poor customer care ohh sorry no customer care they are doing favor to you by taking you in.. Poor service. They really don't care about you ... I wish I could rank in negative for them.. read more

I DO NOT recommend bringing your child here. The Dentist himself was very rude to my child and I. we had a terrible experience here.

I have been going to this office since I moved to the area around age 5 and have always had good experiences despite how much pediatric dental work I have needed to have done from getting multiple teeth pulled to having the bottom half of a broken adult tooth reattached to having braces for 2 years, two cavities, and some contouring after turning 21. They have always been very attentive, working with my sensitive teeth and nervousness after having an unpleasant root canal elsewhere at age 10. They were able to squeeze me in the day after Thanksgiving this year as I needed to go back to college today (saturday), and despite knowing they were rushed due to the way it was worded when they made the appointment, Dr. Lago was exceptional and made me feel like his first priority. The experience was overall incredibly comfortable and I would not go anywhere else for dental care. read more
