This station, like many others, was opened in 1966 as a much-needed system ... for not only the citizenry but for the stampede of tourists who would come for the 1967 World's Fair and 1976 Summer Olympics. It ain't a pretty station, a bit dated in its design, but Métro Saint-Laurent sure gets the job done! First, it is located in the Ville-Marie arrondissement (borough) in the heart of the city. While there are a zillion ways to get from place-to-place in the city, Métro Saint-Laurent puts you a 5 minute walk to one of the epicenters of North American comedy: Just for Laughs. It's a 15 minute walk to Old Montreal and within a few blocks from Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM). It's also a short walk to Notre-Dame Basilica (15 minutes), MAC Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal (5 min.), Quartier des Spectacles (a block), and Parterre du Quartier des spectacles (less than a block). This side-platform station serves the green line -- and is one stop away from Métro's epicenter, Berri-UQAM (home of the green, orange, and yellow lines). You'll find trains riding every 5 minutes or so, so you don't necessarily have to sprint to catch your ride. I also like some of their cool features. They have a 38-bike Bixi dock (Montréal's bike-share program). You'll also find some cool murals on the platform by the late, great Claude Vermette. If you have to get to downtown Montréal, I highly recommend coming and going via Métro Saint-Laurent! We purchased Opus Card for two rides but was only able to redeem one ride. Hubby spoke to the ticket booth agent who explained how it works. He also gave him a free pass to get on the train. We only had to utilize our card and pay when we were returning back to our hotel. We had such a grand time riding the train and experiencing Montreal. It was quite interesting trying to make sense of what and where we were going. Albeit this is a predominantly French speaking area we were able to make our way around just fine.

The eastern access contains shops and services, and an underground city connection to five Concordia University buildings: EV, MB, GM, LB and H buildings. There are several shops and services on the mezzanine (where the ticket booth and the turnstiles are located) of the Guy-exit side of the station, including a Tim Hortons, a Chinese restaurant (Monsieur Gao), a "Belle Pizza", an Asian pastry shop (Cocobun), a hair salon, a cyber cafe, shoe store and another small cafe. The station platforms feature the MétroVision information screens which displays news, commercials, and the amount of time left until the next train arrives. This was the third station after Berri-UQAM and McGill to have the screens installed. As the building above the Guy entrance was constructed at the same time as the underlying Metro station, Guy-Concordia also became the first station to have several stories of commercial spaces above it. The station was originally called Guy after the street where it is located: Guy Street, which, in turn, takes its name from Étienne Guy who represented Montreal in the Legislative Assembly of Lower Canada and was the owned of the land through which the street runs. Maps visible to help you out, The bad: Can get really crowded. Not the cleanest station. There is a mix of inexperienced shoppers in the crowd, and busy office workers that walks quickly. A few homeless people there. McGill is the station to go yo if you are out shopping. Make sure you know where you are going before heading somewhere.

The train station here (as opposed to the metro) is so lovely and nostalgic and super affordable and useful and efficient and green and great. There's not a lot of warm indoor space to wait if you're waiting for the train, you mostly sit in these covered boxes that are open in the front to the wind and weather, or you line the stairs and get blown over by the crazy wind tunnel that happens when you open the doors. Getting off the train and onto the metro is smooth and then you can sit on these tiny strange uncomfortable seats in perfect 60s colours and head off on the orange line. This is also the stop to jump on the 105 bus that'll take you all the way through NDG along Sherbrooke street, which is a fun ride full of delicious food and great local businesses so if you're looking for a weird, low key MTL adventure, you could do worse!!
