While I've written a review in the past, I feel compelled to share an updated one, especially to express my continued appreciation for Dr. Ma and his exceptional front office team and dental assistants, especially a shout out for Thuy and Huyen. Even after moving away from San Jose, I still travel back for all of my dental care--and so does my entire family. That's how much we trust and value the care we receive at N & M Dental. I made the mistake of trying a local dentist in my new town, and unfortunately, it led to a damaged tooth. Thankfully, Dr. Ma was able to help me recover from that experience. Dr. Ma is not only highly knowledgeable and professional, but also incredibly gentle with every procedure. I've never needed pain medication--even after major treatments like root canals, crowns, or implants. His work is precise and skillful. He also did my Invisalign treatment, and the results were amazing--people constantly complimented me on my smile! What stands out the most is how natural and perfect my crown looks, and how I always feel better the very next day without any pain. One of my crowns took over three hours, and Dr. Ma's dedication never wavered. It's rare to find someone who is both deeply passionate and exceptionally talented in their field--Dr. Ma is truly one of those people. I started going to N and M dental in 2008. I was always seen by Dr. Chavez and liked her very much. In 2014 I needed a crown, which was done by Dr. Ma. The crown broke in 2017 and Delta Dental required that the dr. pay for it since it had been less than 3 years. Dr. Ma was not happy about this and begrudgingly did the work. A 1 hour procedure was stretched to 3 since he kept coming in and out. I have no idea why he was juggling so many patients at one time. In addition to this, when the temporary cap came off as soon as I left, his wife accused me of pulling it off... In 2020, the cap came off again. I knew that I needed to find a new dentist after all of this. My new dentist told me that the crowns had been poorly shapped and could lead to problems down the line. I recently needed 2 ROOT CANALS in BOTH teeth, the ONLY two teeth I have caps on! I contacted his office and received no response. Delta dental has told me to file a grievance. read more

I'm leaving this review in the midnight. They don't care about their patients. My wife has a severe tooth pain and cannot sleep well since a week ago when she first visit them. They let her go without giving and treatment/medication and said she will be good in a few days. She wasn't happy with them and wanted to the x-ray scan to other dentist. But they wouldn't allow and said they are waiting for insurance payments. So she visit them today, after a week later of pain. This time they give her medicine and referred her to endodontists. But when we arrived at our pharmacy, we were told there was not medicine ordered. Now she suffered this pain for a week and still can't sleep. They don't care about their patients! read more

I've been a customer of N&M for decades, but only writing a review now, because of Dr. Chaves and they emailed me to request a review. Dr. Chavez is the best Dentist ever, Daniel isn't so bad himself. She took great care of my teeth, my gum disease, make great recommendations and was very patience and caring to my teeth. She cleaned my teeth and did my fillings. Made recommendation for much needed periodontal works. Front desk can use a little customer service communication training. I would have given 5. Also, a little heat to like 70-72 would be more comfortable for the patients. I was there this week and it was so cold, i didn't bring a jacket, but had long sleeves and jeans on, but was still frozen. Dr. Chavez got me a smock to help warm me up. read more

We have been seeing Dr. Ma for several years now. Even after moving to San Diego, we would fly up throughout the year for our routine visits. Recently, I found out during my cleaning that I had a cavity around an old filling, which might need a root canal. But because of COVID, we didn't want to fly so we drove 8+ hours for the appointment. Dr. Ma doesn't usually work on Fridays, but he made the exception and worked well past his normal hours to take care of us. He is very calm and meticulous when it comes to taking care of his patients. I never worry about anything going wrong or experiencing unexpected pain. The front office and assistants are very friendly and helpful. Thuy at the front desk is always very welcoming and kind. The assistant that worked during our appointments did not usually work that day either because she usually spends time with her daughter. Everyone takes the COVID protocols very seriously and I am never worried or stressed about visiting the office. read more

We have been going to N&M Dental for several years and always found it's dental services excellent. The 1-Star rating is given to their recent uninformed denial of our (Delta PPO) insurance. We understand it's a business. But if N&M Dental found issues with Delta's reimbursement practices, and thus ended their relationship, they should have informed their patients well before the appointment and let us decide in advance whether we would continue our visits. Instead, we went to the appointment, were asked to pay out of pocket the full price as if we were not insured. Granted they have offered a small "discount". But that destroyed the purpose of getting insurance, and most of all, the integrity of this service provider. read more

Minus one star for the receptionists... Some of them are very kind and some of them are just plain rude. This one receptionist did not take her time or care about going over through any procedures with me. based on my friend's referring (though she had a very bad experience herself much later before I knew it!). I went to this office to install two crowns over my implants. I had two implants done nicely by a well-known dentist but very pricey so I thought I need to save some money to shop around for cheaper crowns. N&M quoted me for these crown and the price was reasonable so I went for it. Two crowns were done with one gap each with their adjacent tooth, you can imagine each time I eat there are food stuffed in between, especially for meat and fibers - pain like hell, my gum always swallen in those areas. I came back and complaint about but she said the gaps are there for floss. what? She didn't give any suggestion to get it fixed. Certainly I don't want to have the same lousy dentist to do the work anyway. This is my experience with this office. read more

N&M Dental has been my primary caretaker since I can remember. Daniel Ma is my main dentist. He's been there for my braces, retainers, wisdom teeth removals, clean-ups, extractions, you name it. I'm still going there after all of these years and here's why. This place is personable, the location is really convenient, there is plenty of parking, and BLAH BLAH BLAH. Let's be real here, you're looking for a freaking reputable dentist. Daniel Ma is THAT dude. He and his team are consummate professionals. I've been here ever since middle school and I am really satisfied with their service. The receptionists are very nice and polite. My main dentist is Dr. Daniel Ma. Other dentists have also worked on me for cleaning and wisdom teeth extraction. They are all very professional. Cleaning is usually quick and easy. Dr. Ma is very gentle with your cleaning. The assistants who polish my teeth in the end are also decent as well. Overall, I have a pretty good experience with this place. read more

You can't even tell by looking at my teeth I have fillings! I always have a great experience with staff. Friendly, address by name, and professional. Princess always greets me with a welcoming smile. If I could give more than 5 stars, I would do it in a heartbeat! Dr Ma and his assistants and front office staff are the most kind and caring people that I have encountered in my whole life. I have known them for over 20 years and their service has been the best, especially during the COVID situation. As I mentioned in my previous review, I moved to San Diego 8 years ago, but I still drive 8+ hours to see Dr Ma for dental work. The rest of my family are patients of Dr Ma. Whenever I refer Dr Ma to my friends and family, I hear nothing but positive feedback from them. During this difficult time, I have anxiety to go to any public places, including hospitals and doctor's offices, but I feel at ease at Dr Ma's office. As much as I am an OCD person, Dr Ma is even more OCD than me. His office is always spotless and he follows the COVID requirements on point. Last week Dr Ma and his staff, Ashley and Thuy, came in on their days off to perform back to back root canals for myself and my husband and it was painless with no issues afterwards. Words cannot express how grateful we are to Dr Ma and his staff. Thank you for being awesome. I would recommend Dr Ma and his staff without any hesitation. I have recently decided to give N&M Dental another try since I have always liked the dental services I received from the dentists there. My only issue with the office was the front desk staff. They were never friendly and didn't pick up the phone! Since I was able to call and schedule my dental cleaning appointment, I figured I would try going back. Dr. Chavez was the one who worked on my teeth. I really like how gentle and attentive she was throughout the entire procedure. I also really like the Dental Assistant named Thuy. I remember her from back when I used to go there. She has always consistently been nice and friendly every time she helped me. I am definitely going back to N&M for al my dental needs. I GIVE THEM NO STAR! WORST DENTAL EXPERIENCE EVERRR!!!!! Please stay away from this awful place....Especially Dr. Nguyen!!!! The staff are okay especially the young Asian dental assistant. She's always so kind and welcoming. The thing I hate most about this place is waiting. I'm not talking about the waiting room but in the room for the dentist. I swear, they make you wait for at least 45 minutes to an hour!!!!! Well, I went in for a filling with Dr. Nguyen (EVIL WOMAN). The day I went in, there weren't anyone but I have to wait for approximately 45 minutes. Honestly, this woman is by far THE WORST DENTIST EVER!!!! I've never dealt with anyone like her before and hopefully never again! She looks nice but she's very impatient, rude, and not gentle at all. After she gave me my shots, she started drilling my teeth!!!! Who the F**** does that?!!! I'm thinking is this b**** crazy?!!!! My gums were not numb at all. I can feel the pain and told her. She just gave me another shot and started drilling again. This b**** really is crazy and rude!!!! She's careless about what I've said! I told her I don't feel any numbness and she kept drilling like it's okay. Who the hell treats their patients like that?! She also tugged at my teeth so hard, the tool was knocking on my other tooth as well. It was pretty painful but she never apologize. She seems like she was rushing to get it done and careless about how much pain she's causing. I've finally had my fillings in and this b**** didn't care to check my bite either!!! She just told me it's supposed to be that way. She acted like I've never been to a dentist before! My tooth was in pain for several days I guess due to my bite being off so I took it somewhere else to have it taken care of. This place is an absolute joke. They try and up-sell on everything and then when you decline they respond by providing poor service. I've never been to a dentist like this before - TRULY UNPROFESSIONAL! They also ask a lot of odd personal questions not only about you but about your family - like where do they work, what is their SSN, etc. What business is that of your's? Their not your patient. I give one star because Dr. Ma is pretty good in doing routine cleaning. Other than that, dont even think about it. I had a horrible experience with Dr. Nguyen who did my implantation. Long story short, she could not even make a drill in-range. The implantation exposed OUTSIDE of the augmented bone. I have x-rays and credited review by other certified dentist, which I had to see to remove what this dentistry did; redid the augmentation and redid implant. read more

Dental services here are average. I had my braces done here when I was in high school and up until recently, regular teeth cleanings. My braces were okay. Not the best. Teeth cleanings were fine. My problem here is with the receptionists. They are absolutely terrible. In December of '08, I had an appointment that I had previously booked 6 months earlier. When I came in, they told me I didn't have an appointment. I went home and re-checked the appointment card they had given me 6 months earlier and I indeed had an appointment. The receptionist who scheduled it messed up. No biggie, I guess... Fast forward to December of 2009. I had an appointment that I scheduled 6 months ago. I go there, this time bringing my appointment card as confirmation to myself that I really had an appointment. When I get there, the doors are locked! They arent even open! I call them and leave a message. 4 days later, a receptionist calls back saying that I had an appointment for the following Monday. No, I didn't! Then she tells me someone had left a message asking me to reschedule to the following Monday. My house phone (the only number of mine they have) does NOT have an answering machine. Oh yeah, and they seat you in your chair wearing your bib only to have you wait for the dentist for another half hour. Basically, don't come here if you value customer service. read more

I didn't have too much trouble here. Was able to book an appointment a couple weeks out on a weekend. When I showed up, new patient registration was quick, and the whole appointment took about 30 minutes, including x-rays. Insurance can definitely get messy in healthcare, but I didn't have any issues. read more

I recently had 2 fillings replaced and felt it was time to acknowledge the good work. I've entrusted the care of my teeth to N&M for years (easily over 15). In the last few, I have been more diligent - thanks to the receptionist's friendly reminders and willingness to put up with my scant availability and last minute changes. The people here always greet me and are kind, patient, and full of positive energy. In my latest visit, I was pleasantly surprised by the lack of pain during the procedure as my old filling was removed and replaced. I have a low pain tolerance, but I seriously didn't feel a thing! He did it fairly quick and carefully, and explained clearly everything he was doing. The staff is always super friendly and nice. I had a great experience with the staff at NM Dental. The receptionist, the hygienist, and Dr. Ma were all very expedient and efficient. I'd usually spend 2+ hours to do my yearly check up and exam at other offices, but here, getting the X-ray, cleaning my teeth, and the checkup all together took about 1.5 hours. I am especially happy with my hygienist Hellen L. She was very gentle and kind throughout the process--an expert at giving TLC. She took the time to explain what was wrong and how I could fix it. Most of all, I loved how efficient the process was. It is very evident that everyone in the office was respectful of my time and not making me wait or trying to drag on the process.
