The sweets here are amazing and unique. They are some of the better middle eastern sweets that I have tried over the years. I highly recommend giving this place a try. They have so many different kinds of pastries, and it's best to try one of each if you're new. Most options are definitely on the very sweet side of sweets though, which is normal for these kind of traditional pastries. Although, one of my relatives, who is more familiar with middle eastern sweets, has said their is much better kunafa at other stores. For me personally, the kunafa is always very good, especially the kunafa with cheese! However, the quality is not always consistent with some of their pastries. TL; DR: Go to their original Paterson location for kunafa/knafeh. Rest of the pastries are good As someone who both loves kunafa/kunefe/knafeh/insert other spellings here, I love the original location of this Palestinian bakery, but certainly not this one. If you go to the location in Paterson, NJ, the kunafa is freshly made and warm, with everything having the correct texture, whether it is the crunchy shredded filo or the fine semolina. The main thing for a fresh version of this wonderful Arabic dessert is that the cheese pulls, and the cheese, mixed with the topping and syrup, makes it a wonderful dessert. However, all that is only for their other location. I am 90% sure that they are importing the kunafa from the other spot, as it looks similar, but the texture is awful. I am pretty positive that most of this was since they nuked it in the microwave, which resulted in gummy cheese, and depending on the variant, either slightly hard filo dough or clumped semolina. It might be cheaper than kunafa in other spots around here, but I wouldn't recommend it at all. If you are going to go here, order their other pastries. The basbousa is good as well as everything else. read more

I've frequented here quite a bit over the years. They still stand the test of time, and have maintained a high standard of quality sinces the first days I came here. They carry a wide variety of ME desserts, including frozen treats. If I'm coming here, knafeh is a must. I never leave here without it. Prices are comparable to other ME bakeries in the area. They package items well for travel, including sugar syrups when required. I wish I could tell you the names of the treats I've tried, but I can tell you they've all been good and authentic. Some are more sweet than others, but they are good at explaining what they are if you ask. I appreciate their late hours as well, but the risk is the knafeh will be sold out by then. read more

Palestinian owned sweets shop, offering a variety of authentic desserts made in house daily. Prices are reasonable, and you can purchase in large quantities or by individual piece. Nothing was labeled, but the friendly man working was happy to describe them to me. I ended up with 5 different sweets, all of which were treats I had never tried before. The Baklava was buttery and crisp with a rich nutty filling, the Basbousa (?) reminded me of a churro, and I loved the various textured cakes. The Knafeh would have much better hot/warm, but I was staying at a hotel, and still enjoyed it at room temperature. The crunchy kataifi were soaked in what tasted like rose water syrup. Came for some kanafa which was great. We tried the variety with semolina. We wanted to eat there so we asked for the pieces to be heated up. I usually get the vermicelli variety but the semolina was good. They were generous with the syrup and the cheese was salty which contrasted nicely with the sweetness. This bakery has the best authentic sweets! There's a huge variety and the owner is so friendly upon answering any questions and explaining what's what. I ordered some to eat in the cafe with mint tea. I also ordered some to take home. The custard filled coconut one is delicious. I also had the almond cake, date filled, and some baklava. The inside is cute there's plenty of seating to sit for a while and enjoy the pastries. There's also some packaged snacks for sale near the counter. Definitely a must stop if you're visiting the area and a return to if you live nearby! read more

My friend and I were in Bay Ridge for our monthly dinner outing. We tend to try multiple places in an evening. I had been to the Nablus location in Paterson and really enjoyed it. As our night was winding down, I realized that we couldn't head back to the suburbs without getting kunefe. The owner was a pleasant gentleman and mentioned that his cousin owns the Paterson Nablus. We discussed Palestine a bit and then settled in with a couple pieces of delicious kunefe. The melted cheese was perfect and the crust was just right, topped off with sweet syrup, it's a hard dessert to beat. Was nearby and always wanted to try Knafeh. It was open surprisingly late. I got both two types of Knafeh and ended up getting a bunch of other sweets too. I unfortunately didn't have a menu and the names were a bit beyond what I could remember, but everything I had was pretty solid. The lady was nice enough to put up with questions and get me a little bit of everything. I don't have anything to judge against, but I tried both types of Knafeh. One had cheese shredded and baked on top. I felt it was better than the one without it. Hope to learn more about it and try it again, either here or elsewhere. read more

a cure for homesickness if i have ever seen one. i had never been here before but felt nostalgic as soon as i walked in. i could smell the freshness of the sweet breads and rose and simple sugar syrup as soon as i walked in. the television was playing the news channels that my father and uncles listen to, and i forgot i was in new york. the young man behind the counter showed me pastries i had not noticed behind the counter, and detailed every kind of baklava they had (and it was an expansive assortment). the 3awameh (fried dough balls) were so delicious i contemplated buying them to freeze and take to california to my father. but i decided ill have to bring him in the future. the 7alawet el jibn (sweet cheese) was our absolute favorite. my friend ended up buying a whole other box to take home just after eating one piece. and everything is sold by weight equally which is so generous to price at these days. for reference, i've been to similar shops who charge $3 a piece for 7alawet el jibn and our whole box pictured below was $8. i can't wait to come back and make room in my suitcase. read more

What happened Nablus Sweets?! This place used to be the best place to get kenafe. No more. First, the whole choice of mixed nuts, cream or cheese is not traditional. Original kenafe is cheese. The other ones aren't kenafe, just a cheap marketing ploy for clueless orientalists. Second, my order came with too much sugar syrup already on it, real kenafe stores put that on the side and let you put however much 2ater you want, not to mention your kater is just sugar, no rose water no subtlety whatsoever so why put so much of it?! Most importantly the quality and taste were so mediocre! Very low quality ingredients, not the right kind of cheese, no semolina, burned top, over the top sugary and meh experience. I used to travel far to get this kenafe, this is not it anymore. read more

Chocolate Baklava. The Brooklyn branch of Nablus Sweets would be the first non-Greek establishment where I've tried the Chocolate Baklava. I would have loved it even more if the chocolate had been darker and of higher cocoa content (it would contrast well with the Pistachio filling) or served as one of the many layers, but still the Baklava is good and flaky. I would normally not review another branch of Nablus (beyond the flagship one in NJ), but another review is merited for the fact that the two don't share the same kitchen and have slightly different desserts available, the Brooklyn branch carrying a larger proportion of western cakes and pastries as well. I was pleasantly surprised to see two warm trays of Aziza and Shehad emerge from the kitchen for I had suspected that all the baking would be done in the NJ location. There were also different/additional choices available for the Harissa (the semolina cake) and the refrigerated case also had the rice pudding (Rizb bil haleeb) and the Muhallabiya that I've not found in the NJ location during my few visits. The Muhallabiya was in fact so light that I wondered whether I had gotten the sugar free version! I still prefer the NJ location, which probably sees more turnover and foot traffic. Not to mention that while the service is competent in the Brooklyn branch, it lacks the warmth of the staff at the New Jersey outlet. read more

Everything is made fresh and baked in house, you can choose a variety of a pastry's to enjoy with some Tea or coffee... their middle eastern desserts are all unique and most likely nothing like any other pastry you have tried before. Their pastry's are flaky yet dense, sweet and made fresh with ingredients like pistachios, figs and honey. Their Keneffa is a must try, made fresh in house with imported cheese from the middle east. Keneffa is a Soft cheese that is served warm with honey... its their specialty. They sell their freshly baked desserts by the pound, don't be shy, make sure to order a little bit of everything. Definitely came here to try out the baklava everyone's raving about. I love baklava- one of my favorite desserts. I think I'm used to eating them from a Greek place, where there's more crispy phyllo on top, so I was a little disappointed here. I tried their mixed nuts and pistachio baklavas. They were both really sweet, which is pretty normal for baklava. The mixed nut one had a sponge cake bottom, a pretty big layer of nuts and chewiness, then only like two layers of phyllo on top. The pistachio one was sweeter even, and didn't get to taste much pistachio. Mixed nuts one was better. They were decent, pretty small pieces, and it's cheap here! I got 8 pieces for only $6. Nablus has the best middle eastern treats around! This cute little place decorated with pink paint and hanging Christmas lights has a large variety of all the delicious Arabic desserts. I love walking in here. It's just got this nice homey feel. Like as if grandma is in the back baking. You don't have a menu. You basically have to pick your desserts by eye, as they are all laid out in front of you. It's such a hard decision each time! I want everything!!!! Lol. You can tell its all fresh and baked the same day. They also offer pre pacaked desserts as well. But the star of the show, and all my Arabic people know what I'm talking about, is the "kanefa". This is the best dessert in the world and Nablus is the only place I know that serves it. Kanefa is a middle eastern dessert that is usually served only during their holidays or special occasions, hence why a lot of places don't serve it. Luckily nablus serves it year round!!! Its basically and imported cheese from the middle east that get covered with semolina and gets baked until it is oozing and bubbling and they then pour a light syrup over it! The best! I haven't met one person yet that dislikes this dessert. The other desserts they carry are just as delicious, but the kanefa is where its at! Everything is as authentic as it gets. Came here with friends cause I was craving kunafa nablusia and all I got was kunafa that tasted like I was eating a cow. I didn't want to have to say that but it's the truth. I actually couldn't even finish it I don't like throwing food out but this was the only place it can go.... trash. But all the other sweets are pretty good. Really nice bakery. I was delighted to discover that they had a huge sugar-free baklava section. It was just the place to stop for a quick pastry on these last two bitter cold days. A real delight. The Kenefa, a specialty of Nablus, Palestine is great - slightly salty cheese, below a pile of red semolina and pistachio. It's kind of like a Mexican queso fundido, except sweet. It's awesome, salty, sweet, gooey with a little crunch. read more

Come here when I am in the bay ridge area, but every time it just gets worse. The pastries are dry and old tasting. Last night got 2 mamoul which were okay, then knafa bil ishta which was gross. Oh and the funny thing is they charged extra for syrup, first time in my life here and in any arab country have been charged extra for syrup LOL. One of the worst baklava ever. To start with, they use CORN SYRUP to sweeten their baklava instead of using what is known as Sheera (real sugar and water). I come from a middle eastern background and have tried several if not hundreds of baklava before, and this is by far the worst one. They also over sweeten the baklava perhaps to be heavier on the scale since they sell it by pound; the filling they claim as mixed nuts is in fact few nuts with a ton amount of what seems to be semolina.
