For years, I had come to Friendship Plaza, though I never took the chance to the go to Nagoya. I got the chance and I will say that the food perfectly represents the concept of friendship. Brand: 5/5 Nagoya is a Japanese restaurant located in Friendship Plaza in Howell Township. I do like the brush stroke of the logo, which shows well on the entrance sign and the leather-bound menu. Website: 3/5 I do like the first impressions that Nagoya's website gives you, with an image of the sushi and an option to select "Pick Up and Delivery," which leads you to their usage of the app MenuSifu. The gallery of images of the food do provide a glimpse into the establishment's cuisine. While a couple of the menu items had images, most of them did not. It should be noted that Nagoya has unusual time lapses in terms of when they are open or closed, which the Yelp description provides a better format for explaining it than the website does. Wait Time: 5/5 I experienced no delays or disruptions during the wait time. Ambiance: 5/5 This Japanese restaurant has the unique ambiance of having multicolored lights shown upon the glass walls, while the dimmed lights gave the interior a cool vibe. This includes the dark color of the tables and the seats, all of which felt comfortable. I can clearly see how this establishment would be used for celebrations. The well-spaced tables percolated throughout the large space. The music showcased Japanese Christmas songs throughout the establishment. Food: 4/5 I ordered the Alaskan Roll, which consists of salmon, cucumber, and avocado. The vegetables gave the special roll its sharp, distinct taste. Clearly, I can see how Alaska would have a major theme in the roll with the presence of salmon. The rice and the nori sheet did not stay, and the sushi rolls did fall apart, though I did think that the rice and the other ingredients had good texture. Service: 5/5 The staff managed to provide my order without any issues. Worth The Money?: 5/5 The Alaskan Roll perfectly represents the brand of Nagoya, as among its selection of unique sushi rolls. I personally suggest creating a more unique rolls, for I would be curious as to what they would taste like. Indeed, the website provides you with many other selections of Japanese cuisine. You can also expect to find your sushi roll well-tended despite the nori sheet and the wait time it took to make them. Throughout my meal, the ambiance greatly matched the experience. The service matched the food well, since the meal had the sushi roll, the wasabi, and the yellowtail available. Concerning the first impressions of Nagoya, I definitely did not expect the establishment to have the more upbeat ambiance compared to other Japanese restaurants I went to. I will say that it did give me a new experience, despite the website's presentation. As such, the ambiance never once tried my patience while awaiting my order. I can see how the staff managed to keep the establishment cared for. I will say that the Alaskan Roll and the experience overall managed to match the price and make it worth it. Rating: 5/5 Stars With an establishment like Nagoya, I see plenty of hope for improvement and it will continue to represent Friendship Plaza pleasantly. Wow - this was a truly excellent sushi option when we were in Jackson. Great special rolls and very reasonable lunch specials that even included some rolls normally considered special elsewhere. Please serve tea in a pot for those who want it. Also, the bubbles in the bubble tea were WAY overcooked to the point of exploding. Please either cook them correctly or don't serve it at all. It's in a giant shopping center with a PetSmart I think at one end, and ShopRite at the other. It's in the middle. I found out there were several locations. There's only a few people in there and by the time we left, we were the only ones there. The service is a little inattentive. Another thing is the place was hot. They had some kind of air-conditioning upfront, but you didn't feel it where we were sitting. We were both sweating. She ordered the tofu age, which we shared and it was pretty good. It's very difficult to eat with chopsticks. I ordered edamame. Also pretty good. I got an Alaska roll and a spicy tuna roll. She got vegetable rolls. She didn't complain. My rolls were just OK, but this is not a place I ever need to go back to, but I wish the business good luck. read more

So we sat down thinking nothing about it, plus we were the only people there. Place is nice inside - the outside looked deceiving. The menu isn't as vast as we thought. The food is delicious, but the price is pretty high for the portion. I'm pretty small and a single roll still left me hangry so I usually order 2 Special Rolls and a side of Gyoza which I share with my fiancé. Lately, I've been hooked on the Naruto Roll. The cucumber wrap is refreshing and a really nice change in palette. My go-to absolute favorite item is the Long Beach Roll (now my fiancé's favorite too). He usually gets the Salmon Teriyaki Dinner, a regular Sushi Roll or Special Roll, and a second order of Gyoza all to himself. That averages $55. So, if you're having a good night... Lol. Nagoya is the best I love the food it is so good. I love the bento boxes because you can get sushi and food from the kitchen like steak, chicken, shrimp, and salmon. I love the sushi bar because I can see all the cool fish and especially because I can see the sushi bar workers working on my sushi. Personally my favorite sushi roll is the fantastic roll and it tasted so good with the mango kani salad it is just such a good go to combo to get at Nagoya. I also love the bubble tea at Nagoya. There are many options for drinks. It is a must have to get a bubble tea, a Japanese soda, or a shirley temple. The service is really good. The owner is so nice and the waitress is so sweet. Last night I was looking forward to a nice meal at Nagoya. Having been here maybe four times before and mostly having sushi, I never really tried their cooked items. Tonight I had the beef and shrimp hibachi. I like that they don't have hibachi tables where you are forced to watch a chef perform in front of you. The only advantage to that is your food comes out hot. Four of us decided on the hibachi dinners. All were served with miso soup which was decent and a lack-luster iceberg lettuce only salad. All four of the entrées came out a little better than room temperature. All four? I decide not to send mine back because the beef was already medium well when I asked for medium rare and didn't want it charred any more than it already was. It wasn't too crowded so I saw no reason for cold food. I summoned the manager and told her our food was cold. She apologized citing that it was real busy with takeout orders. I didn't think that was a valid excuse and we politely refused her offering of dessert. She did however take off $15 from our bill. Now this is normally a 4 star restaurant and perhaps it was an off night, so I'm willing to return because their sushi is excellent. read more

So about two weeks ago I had ordered the sushi sashimi for 2 and had several issues and posted about 4 pics. We have been going here about once every week or so for a while and we're not happy last time. The owner saw my review and contacted me and apologized and offered to give us the same thing next time on them. First I wanna say that i was very impressed to see them respond and take ownership of the problem All on there own. So today I called to place the order. I picked it up and took home and was very pleased the difference was night and day it was 1000 times better. At first I was not gonna go there again that's how disappointing it was but the owner and food this time more than made up for it. It seems that we all got a nice feeling walking into this place last night. It's nicely decorated and appears spotlessly clean. We were told that the restaurant opened in the mid-summer by Miyuki, one of our three servers. There is no visible seating for hibachi so we assumed that they prepare it in the kitchen and bring it out to you. Actually I don't care for that type of show. To me it's old-hat , wondering if you're going to get stuck with the odd piece of fish and then you make niceties across the table to people you don't even know cuz the table sits 8. We did not opt for hibachi but rather Sushi/sashimi fare. The lighting and decor are very tasteful. Every item that we ordered was very fresh. Try the Victoria Secret roll, heavenly with shrimp and crab. Also the Sweet Heart roll with scallops and salmon. That mango sauce was delish. We also ordered the Nagoya roll. This was super, with eel and crab. Did I forget to mention the seaweed salad? Iceberg lettuce added a crispy crunch to it. Different! There are so many types of rolls, it's kinda hard to choose when going to any Asian restaurant. So close your eyes and point your finger anywhere on the menu. You probably won't go wrong. I just found out Nagoya opened very close to my home so hubs & I decided to check it out. Yelp reviews were great! The place is fairly large & very open with quite a few tables. On this Friday night there was plenty of room. Along the side in the back is a sushi bar & stools to sit as well. If you go into the bathrooms, they have one of the coolest looking bathroom faucets I've ever seen, definitely worth mentioning! It is BYOB so we gladly brought along our favorite beverage. Nagoya is also a hibachi restaurant however friends have said they cook the hibachi food in the back & then bring it to your table, not a side show at your table like some places. We started the night with shrimp dumplings & an order of 6 was delivered to our table. 3 of us shared & they were very tasty. Next I ordered the seaweed salad; it was huge. We shared that as well, however I could have done without the iceberg lettuce in the bottom. For dinner we ordered 1 each, Sweetheart roll, Nagoya Roll & Victoria's Secret Roll. The rolls were 8 pieces each, a nice amount & we shared those as well. I thought the Victoria's Secret roll was fantastic! The other two I liked, but not as much. I found the prices to be very fair. Overall I think the place is great. I found the service to be slow considering the amount of people in the restaurant when we arrived. It appears the wait staff does not wait on specific tables but they all take care of all of them. Makes for some confusion when we place our order & then someone else comes by to take our order. But as I stated, the food is solid & the prices are reasonable. It has only been open since July so I expect there are some growing pains. I will definitely return. read more

First time at this sushi spot I was in the area and decided to try it out. We got Shumai as an appetizer. It was good but not very hot. I got the Mexican roll and the Godzilla roll...the Mexican roll was delicious but I wasn't crazy about the Godzilla roll. The presentation of the sushi was nice. Came to Nagoya after searching for hibachi restaurants in or near Howell. My family and I live in North Jersey but we down in Howell for my son's birthday. Anyhow, we were a large party of 8 so I called ahead to make sure we could be accommodated, the girl I spoke with was very friendly and she assured me it would be no problem. I sent over the info to the other party in my group and realized that the restaurant would be closing at 3:30pm (about 15 or so minutes after we'd be arriving) so I quickly called back to check with the hostess and she said that usually they close at that time to give the staff a break in between the lunch/dinner rotation but assured me we would be taken care of. Let me say firstly that got them 5 stars right away - a restaurant willing to accommodate such a large party on short notice and so close to their break time is a sign of great customer service. We got to the restaurant about 3:10 five or take and we're seated promptly. There was one other group there which I figure is because locals probably already know they close up at 3:30. Either way the hostess was friendly and our waitress was extremely attentive. We had 3 adults and 5 kids with us. 4 of us ordered from the hibachi menu, 1 ordered noodles, 1 fried rice and another chicken katsu. We also ordered the Godzilla roll (picture attached) and a California roll for one of the kids. The hibachi and Katsu plates came with soup or salad so we got to have a bit of both. The katsu came with miso soup which my daughter drank up and the hibachi came with a mushroom broth soup which was very delicious. The salad was the standard iceburg salad you get at pretty much every hibachi place and it was still good, the dressing was much sweeter than I've had at other places and that was a plus for me. The food came out very quickly and was presently nicely and tasted great. The adults shared the Godzilla roll and thought it was tasty. As for the food the portions were very nice sized, served hot and with sides of dipping sauces. Everything tasted great and we had so much food we brought home goodie bags for later. I definitely recommend this spot if you are in the area and looking for great food and fast and friendly service. It was worth every cent! read more
