I decide to do takeout since I don't want to wait for a seat and all the tables are for 2 and 4. The bar was taken up by 6 friends and they left 5 minutes after I ordered. No less than 2 minutes later, the bar had only two seats left! I'll say again, that's a good sign! On this visit, I had a miso soup, paradise roll, yellowtail roll and a side of hibachi noodles. Wasn't a huge fan of the mango mochi, especially the chocolate sauce topping. I've been wanting to try this place for a while ever since we went to Pastosa a while ago. I keep forgetting about it until Hubs reminded me of it. The restaurant is small, with dark brown floors and matching tables that seat up to 4 patrons. The chefs work behind a counter that's right next to the seating area and on that counter are large cubbies that hold knickknacks and restaurant items such as glassware, takeout boxes, and teacups. A black marker board was showing the Mother's Day specials along with other restaurant items. I guess they didn't update their board. LOL. We had the following: Sushi sashimi for two, which has 10 pieces sushi, 15 pieces sashimi, 1 eel avocado, 1 spicy crunch tuna roll and 1 rainbow roll. Daughter liked it a lot and said that it was very tasty. Hubs said that it would've been perfect if white tuna wasn't included. White tuna is popular in Japanese restaurants and we usually don't care for it. Spider roll, which is soft shell crab, avocado, cucumber. Hubs was surprised at how big the roll was considering the price, which was under $10. He was expecting a much smaller roll, like half of it. Chirashi, which has 12 pieces of assorted raw fish over sushi rice with pickle and tamago. Daughter loved it and said that it was very cold and soft. Hubs also liked it also. Place is a lot smaller than I expected it from the outside. The windows are covered with paper, so I thought it would be bigger. It's small and felt homey. I fell in love with this place. There's plenty of parking outside. Business was pretty good with constant people coming in to dine in and ordering takeout. Service was quick and friendly. Simply the best sushi in the area! I get the maki combo almost every time because it's just so fresh and good and it comes with ginger dressing salad and delicious miso soup for such a good price! My husband loves the aburi oshi sushi and I do too! So I steal one or two pieces of it from him! Also, the paradise roll is exactly that! Those are some of our favorites, but we also have tried the chicken teriyaki and pad Thai .. all cooked to perfection! Our server is always friendly and attentive and pretty much knows what we will order as we come almost every week! I went to this place because of the high ratings. But it was definitely not worth it. To begin with. The interior is extremely small and we were seated right in the middle in front of the door. There were like 4 people sorrounding us waiting for their pickup order at all times. - the potion sizes for the appetizers are extremely small - the shu mai was super fishy. - there was literally no salt on the edamame - the shrimp in the pad thai was extremely overcooked and rubbery. Ordered a tuna and some others rolls and the fish in all of them was dried out and didn't taste fresh. Sushi rice was old and very hard like it was left over from the day before. Also, there was way too little fish in the rolls compared to the amount of rice. Hot food was barely reheated and also tasted like it was premade the day before. Small but mighty! This restaurant holds maybe 10 tables and sushi bar seating. It's byob and the specials is what is up! I liked this place cause they had some of the rarer finds than your typical sushi restaurant such as Toro and monk fish liver. Every roll was fresh and the rice was still warm. First time here. Very cutely decorated. Not an abundance of tables. Has a nice amount of seats for sushi bar seating. Did not notice if they had alcohol offerings. I don't think so. I have one favorite sushi place in north Jersey that has been my #1 and Fumiyama sushi is just as good! I love the food here so much! The spicy tuna rolls are definitely impressive and one of the best in NJ. The service is so amazing they accommodate for my allergies which is a major plus! The place may be on the smaller size but I love this place and don't mind sitting down to eat and enjoy my meal. I will always come back to this place. While in town for business, I was looking to have some sushi, and by the Yelp reviews, I felt this one would hit the mark. It was close, and on a rainy night, I didn't want to venture far from my hotel. Despite the lack of beer to accompany my meal, they accommodated my food sensitivity allergies well. I wanted to try several of their rolls, so I went with the spicy maki combo, foregoing the salmon. The california roll was good, and I enjoyed it. Spicy tuna rolls, I discovered, can be made a multitude of ways. I'm more used to having a more "solid" tuna in the middle, along with rice, and rolled inside the nori. The consistency of the tuna roll was, unfortunately, not to my particular liking. I tend to prefer the spicy tuna rolls with sliced tuna and avocado. I won't hold the preparation of the roll against the establishment, it's just not one I'd order again, now that I know. The staff was friendly, and welcoming. A great blend of attention and alone time, since I was there by myself and immersed in reading the days news while I ate. I'd go back, when I'm in the area, and try some of the other offerings. I might also bring my own Sapporo or Kirin with me inside a water bottle. read more
