Live local to this restaurant, and finally made it in. The left side of the restaurant is the hibachi side, and to the right is a smaller restaurant side. The inside is nice and clean. Quick and friendly, helpful service. I ordered the lunch special which came with soup, salad, a roll, and five pieces of chef choice sushi. I'm not a fan of salmon, but the other sushi I had was delicious. I believe they were tuna, whitefish, sea bass, and yellowtail. Also got my husband some chicken fried rice to go which also came with soup and salad. My cousin also got a lunch special, and I tried her clear soup- so good. Friday is Hibachi day at work and Ginza is the place of choice for everyone. So I was kinda excited!! So, I called in the 2 item order and proceeded to navigate the gauntlet of West Park Ave.. Now, this is important-- when I placed my order I said I would be there in about 10-15 minutes, the lady on the phone said, no 20-30 minutes. I commented, I'm on lunch, maybe I should cancel my order and come try another time, thank you, she said," WHAT???? YOU THINK THIS WILL JUST BE READY IN 5 MINUTES?? HUH??? YOU CAN COME HERE AND SIT HERE AND WAIT!! Yes she yelled into the phone.. I said okay, at this point I'm tired, I've been up since 4am, it's almost 1:30pm and just don't care.. in hindsight I should have cancelled. I arrived pretty quick, but heed her comment and wait in my car the appropriate 20 minutes, I walked in and asked for my order, I figured it had to be ready, it wasn't ready. So I said, okay I'll just pay and wait. I paid and stood by the door, because tables are for customers dining in. ..and wait I did..... and waited.... and waited...and waited.. tick-toc I see my lunch hour blowing away like dust in the hot Santa Ana winds....and I realize, "WEST PARK AVE...." I asked, is it ready? like at any point? is this EVER gonna be ready? the restaurant has 4 tables that have patrons and 3 sushi chefs..... its not packed, its not busy, there is NO brisk "To-Go" ordering going on....hmmm I asked again, because now, I'm gonna be late and won't be eating any lunch at all.. she asks the other girl server if my order is ready, and I know this, because the question contained, specifically the items in my order & then they side eye looked at me, the girl had the OHNOOO look.. yes ladies, you ladies forgot about my order. Imagine that!! That whole throwing of the shade -- "What? you want it in 5 minutes..?" is now at over 20 minutes, but okay, I'll wait, I mean how long can this take, they are probably just finishing it up. But like a bad TV ADD-- "Wait there's more!!.... the lady walks up to me and puts her finger into my face and says, "1 more minute, okay?! 1 more minute!" it will be ready!. Okay. I get it, 1 more minute. 30min We are now at 40 minutes, people!! 40 minutes! I am waiting... and I just happen to turn around and look at the sushi chefs area, the finger pointing lady walks over, grabs what looks like my order that has been, sitting there for lord knows how long, hands it to the girl server, who rushes past me into another back area, as I look, yep, that was my order... and I wait.......... you still waiting with me???? wait for it... 10 minutes later. we are at the 50 minute mark--- my order comes out-- I'm like don't bag it just hand it off like a football, but nope- Then the reverent bagging begins and then the stapling of the ticket to the the bag and thennnn the readingggg of the orderrrrr... yes- yes- yes come onnnnnn WE ALL KNOW IT'S MY DANG ORDER, EVERYONE HERE KNOWS IT MY ORDER, EVERYONE IN OCEAN COUNTY KNOWS IT MY ORDER, THE LIE DETECTOR ON MAURY POVICH SAYS THIS IS MY ORDER, EVERYONE WEST OF THE ROCKIES KNOWS THAT HELLMAN'S IS BEST FOODS AND THAT THIS IS MY ORDER--- THE ONLY PEOPLE WHO DON'T KNOW THIS IS MY ORDER? Finally we decided to venture out to another Japanese restaurant instead of our tried and true neighborhood Japanese restaurant, Asia Star. We had passed the Ginza Japanese restaurant many times and thought "lets try it" and we did. It's a busy restaurant for in house diners as well as having a brisk business for take out. The staff is busy almost too busy as they seem oblivious to anyone coming into the restaurant. There is no greeting or recognition that you might want a table. We were seated without an exchange of conversation except follow me. My husband ordered a healthy meal i.e., Salmon Teriyaki. It came with miso soup, and a salad with a great dressing and broccoli. I ordered a "box." This came with beef teriyaki ,California roll and dumplings as well as miso soup and salad. Oh yes, deep fried shrimp and vegetables was also included. Lots of well prepared food by an excellent chef for a very reasonable price. But I did miss the warmth and friendliness of our neighborhood Japanese Restaurant, Asia Star Both restaurants, however, offer the best of Japanese cuisine. Best Sushi and Japanese food in NJ, hands down! I LOVE Japanese food. I eat it multiple times per week for the last several years. I've eaten japanese food all over NJ, NY, VT, and pretty much everywhere I've travelled. This place is phenomenal in every aspect. The wait staff is friendly. The owner is extremely nice. If there are any problems with your order (which is extremely rare) they are more than happy to correct them. The sushi is always super fresh & very high quality fish. They will make custom sushi (for example cutting a roll into 10 or 12 pieces - a request that many japanese restaurants tell me they CAN'T do, but Ginza does without a problem). They are also extremely reasonably priced. Their appetizers and main courses are just as good as their sushi. Everything is extremely reasonably priced and the presentation is beautiful. The pictures here on yelp is really what you get. Each sushi is presented as a piece of art! It's wonderful! All of their food is top quality ingredients. The beef is LEAN. It's fantastic. Not fatty at all. The interior of the restaurant is very pretty and CLEAN. They are constantly decorating. The restaurant is BYOB. Somewhat recently they put in a few hibachi tables. Their habachi is just as good (if not better) than anywhere else in the area AND it is significantly cheaper with bigger portions. They put on a great show as well. Some things I highly recommend ordering: Beef Tataki appetizer, Yellow tail avacado roll, Habachi fried rice, Edamame, Beef teriyaki bento box. If I could give this place more than 5 stars I would. I've been trying sushi restaurants around my New Jersey area since I moved here a few months ago. The only reason why this one doesn't get five stars is because the service was not very good. We had to go grab our own menus because the waitress wasn't. I haven't been to many yet but Ginza had to be my favorite so far! Their green salad dressing is very good and their bacon shrimp appetizer was so good!! Went with my fiancé last Friday night. We were greeted by a young girl, maybe 5? She brought us to our table and everything...probably the only awkward thing to happen all night. Pam (my fiancé) ordered the homemade strawberry bubble tea and we had the yakitori & edamame appetizers. After which we had some sushi, all of which was incredible (pictures have been added) - and the extra details on plating gave them that edge. Finally some tonkatsu & soba, most of which came home with us due to the large portions (not that I'm complaining!). Ginza. When you look where it's at it doesn't look like much but when you go in you are greeted with smiling faces from the hosts and the guests. Their hibachi set up is exquisite with great chefs. Their sushi bar is the best in town (it might not say much because it's New Jersey but I doubt you can find anywhere better) I have been going here for the past three years and it's only gotten better and better. Knowing these people and how they work it only gets more fascinating. Everything on the menu is terrific. Worst all you can eat sushi place. They charge extra if you don't finish your food, which I completely understand for the sushi and fish, but when you have a very small amount of WHITE RICE left on your plate and they charge for that, it is unprofessional and bad business. The food here is great but the waitresses are rude. It's really bittersweet. You go and pay $21 a person for sushi and they take your order with an attitude. Over $100 for a family of 5. Then they check if you need drink refills constantly during your first plate. But then when you try to order your second plate the waitress takes forever to come over. They make no substitutions what so ever. Avocado comes in almost every roll. But if you ask for it in a roll that is doesn't come in, they just blatantly say no. We waited for another 20 minutes when the manager asked us to stop standing by the front desk because "we were blocking the entry" and relegated us to the lobby with a super nasty "thank you". Never ending nagging and request to require fresh chop sticks, new sauce dish and mayo each time another roll came out and then to have the audacity to complain about every other dish that came out. Ginza is one of our go to restaurants when we want sushi, for dine in or takeout. It's casual, they're pretty quick in getting you in and out, and the food is delicious. We like it so much we've even been to their other location in Toms River a few times. I don't think we've ever had a roll we didn't like. We LOVE the ocean roll, the blue moon roll, and their all you can eat is totally worth it.The only downsides, keeping me from giving 5 stars, are the tables can be a little close together, and the staff can be a little abrupt.
