Really good sushi and hibachi place. Even though it's not the cheapest, it definitely does not taste cheapest either. I grew up going here for family reunions, birthday parties, celebrations, or just dinner. The people have always been very kind and welcoming. There used to be a woman who worked here who was always grumpy and mean, but my mom and I have noticed that now she had started being kind and welcoming like her co-workers. Very fun atmosphere, not very calming if that's what you're looking for, but it's like a family location, full of fun and joy. So if you're thinking of coming here for a party, or just for lunch or dinner, definitely try it out! read more

I visited this place based on a friend's recommendation while I was in Mississippi. They claimed it had the best hibachi in the area, so I decided to give it a try. I opted for the lunch special, which didn't feel like much of a "special" since it still cost over $20. I chose the hibachi lunch with shrimp and scallops, and received three shrimp, three scallops, fried rice, and veggies. It also came with miso soup, but I didn't enjoy it as it was way too salty. They did offer the option to have my food cooked in front of me on the grill or served in a booth. Next time, I'll choose the grill option to ensure the rice is fresh, as the rice I had tasted a bit stale--though I should mention I arrived about 40 minutes before they closed for lunch. I also ordered the Goya roll, which my waiter said was the most popular. He seemed to assume I wanted something fried, but we all know great sushi is raw and rolled, so the roll wasn't necessary. The shrimp was overcooked, and the rice didn't taste fresh, but overall, the meal was decent. However, I didn't feel it was worth the price for lunch. I have been here many times over the years and enjoyed it. Today a Saturday at noon I went again. I have not been in a while. Me and my wife ordered filet hibachi rare as we always do. The plates came out as normal except there was an odd brownish liquid on the steak pieces that have never been on them before. Unlike us we sent it back without taking one bite. We were very polite and when it came back it was burnt. The shrimp tempura was cold and flavorless. Service was good. We will not return. Should have hit up the Mexican place next door. read more

Hi, I recently got food from this restaurant in March and there was a baby roach in my to go food. I told the staff and they said how sorry they were and they would give me a refund. They never refunded me but I was so disturbed that I do not plan on returning to Nagoya in Madison ever again. Now- my friend got food there last week and it was to go food also and it also had a baby roach inside her food. She was super disturbed as she found it after consuming half of her food. Nagoya used to be a favorite restaurant of mine to frequent whenever in the area. Was super excited to stop in for lunch during my last visit to the area and was highly disappointed to say the least. Not sure what's going on with the restaurant now or if there have been changes in management but the quality of food is subpar to say the least. Even the interior of the restaurant looks as if it's not being kept up. The usually friendly staff that I was used to being greeted by was now rude staffers who had not even a hello to greet you. The food quality was awful as well. While the rolls were big, they were rolled very sloppy to the point of falling apart while trying to eat them. The presentation of the role looked like something I could do at home and not something that was done by a restaurant that should know how to roll sushi. Not sure if I will try Nagoya again when the area or look for a new place to meet my sushi needs when in the area. read more

Great food! I wanted to give 5 stars but the service was extremely slow. We were done eating and had to wait about 15 minutes for a to go box and ticket. I have ordered delivery and have sat inside for dinner and it is one of the best here in Madison MS. The good thing is that they are usually open when all the other places are closed like on Christmas Day and New Years. They have a hibachi area which we will try next time. Perhaps I should've checked out reviews before I went. I was not impressed. I'm a sushi lover and this place was no better than picking up a roll from the grocery store. The service was just ok, nothing special. I felt like no one spoke English because none of them acknowledged me or spoke more than two words to me. I ordered one of my old time favorites (from when they were better) a Yum Yum Salad. The plate they served it in was dirty with a clear sticky residue around the edges and a finder print. I asked them to get me another one and it looked like the dumped the same salad into a different bowl that was still not clean. I didn't eat it. The sushi I ordered was room temperature so I also didn't finish that. Honestly I was too tired to say anything and I assumed based on the lack of conversation it would've not been heard anyway. My recommendation, avoid this place!!! I think there are other places in Madison to get sushi. If not, then it is worth the drive to Asahi in Brandon, Osaka in Flowood, or Crazy Ninja in Flowood. This isn't our first time here. We always try again after a not great experience. Was was underwhelming, best thing I ate was the beef tataki. We also tried the beef gyoza dumplings but the flavor seemed just a bit off. For the entrees we tried a few different sushi rolls, mostly from their specialty menu. Overall, much better tasting sushi can be had for the same cost or cheaper elsewhere in the Jackson area. Our waitress was an older woman who only spoke to you with her voice raised in a near panic and was running the entire time. Delish sushi! I was spoiled to start eating sushi at Nagoya. I don't think it's expensive at all for sushi. My favorite roll is the Dynamite, but I do love the Spicy Tuna and Snow Crab. They always serve you delicious, complimentary miso soup every time you eat there along with a hot towel before your meal. After moving to Nashville,whenever I'm in Madison or Oxford I try to visit Nagoya. No sushi place in Nashville can fill the Nagoya size hole in my heart. I have never written a review on a place before because usually I think the people writing them are being over dramatic but this place is the worst restaurant I have ever eaten at in my life. When we got there, there was only one family at a table and we were seated at a table across from them. I thought it would be fast but it took a very long time for our chef to start cooking our food. The whole time we were waiting there was this short man with a black collared shirt on and jeans with a belt. He starred at me the entire time we were waiting. I made it obvious I noticed so maybe he would stop but it was like he didn't care at all. He made me extremely uncomfortable and would not stop looking at me. Many of the times he was staring at me it looked like he was grinning like he thought it was funny he was making me uncomfortable. I ordered chicken and double fried rice. When the chef was making our food it didn't seem like it was a lot and it wasn't. I left a picture below showing what it looked like when I got my food. I hadn't even taken a bite yet. I've worked in the food service industry for nearly my entire professional career. For this reason, I tend to be more lenient than most when it comes to food quality and service. While the service wasn't bad, the food quality was near the worst I've ever tasted. I order chicken and my fiancé ordered steak hibachi. Half of the chicken was inedible; I would bite in to it and would immediately spit it out - there was a gelatin-like consistency to it. Her steak was so over cooked that it wasn't edible. The rice was so over cooked and tasted so poorly that it couldn't be eaten. The vegetables were so mushy that there was no point in eating more than one bite. I spent $53 on our meal, didn't even eat half of it, and threw it away (because I wouldn't even risk giving it to my dogs). I never waste food - but this was easily the worst hibachi I've ever had.
