I was in over a month ago for nails while I was in town and have been doing gel overlays at my salons in the Raleigh area - where after 2 -3 weeks I needed to return for lifting and they would file down the nails and start over. Over a month ago I randomly walked in here, they saw me immediately, made a recommendation on a service that was healthier, but still heavy duty...and today I'm waiting for them to open up so I can call and ask her what she did because my nails are grown out but still in great shape! Don't trust the lower reviews here. I don't know who was upset at her, but my nails came out great! On top of that I also found out that the owner is a military family...so win win on supporting a small biz and a military family during my 4th of July trip!

Unfortunately, my experience with Ocean Nails & Spa was extremely disappointing. I am currently undergoing cancer treatment and have gone through chemotherapy, so I'm unable to have regular manicures or pedicures. I thought treating myself to something as simple as having someone paint my toes would be a nice little moment of self-care during a very difficult time. Instead, when it came time to pay, I was charged $50 plus a $2 processing fee. I questioned the charge, and the manager/owner told my nail technician to charge me the same price as a gel polish with chrome and instructed her to "show her the menu." The problem? I did not receive a gel manicure, and I supplied the polish AND chrome product myself. I want to be very clear: I am not asking for special treatment because I have cancer, nor am I looking for a handout or a discount. But charging full price for a service that included products I personally supplied--and then essentially pointing to the menu as justification--is unreasonable. This isn't about $50. It's about the principle. A business has every right to set its prices, but customers also have every right to feel that they are being charged fairly for the service and products actually provided. I walked into Ocean Nails & Spa hoping for a small, enjoyable self-care experience and walked out feeling taken advantage of and incredibly disappointed. The technician was lovely. Unfortunately, the management's handling of the situation completely overshadowed that. I will not be returning to Ocean Nails & Spa, and I cannot recommend this business based on my experience.

Gel manicures are $35, $40 with design. Pedicures are $30. Her schedule is usually from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Saturday by appointment only. Her schedule is very busy so it might be difficult to fit her in. Definitely schedule as early as possible. I scheduled mine 3 weeks in advance and the latest I was able to get was 3:30 p.m. on a Tuesday. She did gel nails on my natural nails. I appreciated that she applied cuticle remover, then pushed back and cut my cuticles before starting the gel manicure, which Nails Image didn't do. Throughout the gel manicure, she had clean comfortable towels for me to lay my arms on. The manicure was pretty clean. I just wished she did nail art designs by hand. She has some designs she transfers onto the nails, including flowers, butterflies, and leopard print. After the gel manicure was complete, she applied cuticle oil and hand cream. As she applied hand cream, she did a quick massage on my hands and forearms, which was a nice surprise. The manicure took a little bit over an hour. I felt just a tad bit rushed since she had her next appointment scheduled an hour after mine. Adelina was friendly and was nice enough to give me a $5 discount since I was a first time customer.

I've gotten pedicures there recently and decided to try their hair stylist. I was given a name Frankie and proceeded to schedule an appointment. Before the appointment, I showed her a photo of my desired style. She looked over it several times and guided me to shampoo station where she pushed my head and hair around way too harshly and without much care as to how it felt. When I said, "hey, slow down", she responded, "we're either a good fit, or not!" Hmm? The cut was exactly the opposite of what I had asked for, after asking to see the photo several times. Now, I will say that it was in no way the cut I requested but the worst part was after going there for a pedicure and mentioning my displeasure to my pedi person about the haircut and she agreed there was no similarity between the photo and my hair. No problem. It's not the first haircut that I got where I wasn't satisfied. And because of Frankie's (Trish?) attitude at the appointment, I didn't dare go back and complain. All that being said, I attempted to make another Pedi appointment and was told they were not accepting appointments for me. No explanation, nothing, just no appointment for me! So, hopefully, the owner,Melinda is reading this and will explain where their professionalism came from. Thanks for listening. I just received a response from Melinda on my post. None of what she said was in any way accurate. The desk person stated that all she knew was that she was not allowed to schedule me AND at the time I was getting the cut, there were a total of one other client and Liz in the entire salon when I was there and the only person who said anything negative was the stylist. I was too shocked to speak. I in no way complained about the cut to her, but it was mentioned to Liz who had referred me to the stylist, when I was there a week later.
