I'm a Black/African-American woman, and it is clear they were not too booked to take me for a simple pedicure. The salon just did not want (or care) to patronize me in their establishment. I'm 33 years old, and in my life I have never ever been refused service or treated with such overt prejudice. My advice - if you are Black, a person of color, or if you care about people who are Black or POC, do not come here.

We stumbled upon Girl.ishh as it was close to where we had lunch. Finding the spot isn't easy as it's through some double doors and up stairs and tucked away in a unit. She asked if she could help us and we basically said we're looking for a pedicure and if she had any open- her look to us seemed distasteful and so she said she didn't have any. We asked if she recommending any and she was like "do you have a car?" But it's the way she said it. She looked at her phone for a second and said she had no availability- which tells me she didn't want to help- that's fine. The recommendations we got were "there's a lot of walk-ins and they're Asian shops." First off, you have no tact. I'm absolutely all for supporting anyone and everyone who is willing to work and do nails- regardless of what you are or aren't. Before I tried finding her shop I called and got her voicemail. Getting a manicure in Molalla sounded skeptical to me. I had lived there for 2 years and never even thought to give the nail salons a try. Not too sure why... We called Magic Nails to make an appointment, and she saw us later that day. We were going to get regular manicures but decided to get Gel manicures after we realized that she did those. She listened to exactly what we wanted and created an awesome and unique design for us.For me it was french manicure with glitter on the tips. All had no openings for weeks. What? Honey, you are not in Portland Anymore! In Portland, you can walk in any of the 50-100 salons and get any service, no wait, 7 days a week. Yes, I know The Dalles and Hood River are not big cities like Portland, but assumed there would still be nail shops with several attendants. Turns out many are true salons with just the owner or two people providing services. Initially there were no openings at Hey Gorgeous but Sherrie had a cancellation and called me back. Said if I could be there by 11:30, she could fit me in. I bolted out of the house and took the 12 minute drive to The Dalles, a beautiful drive I must say. Located right in town, inside and on the second floor of Hampton Furniture, the Hey Gorgeous salon is very private and comfortable. Sherrie got right to work and I was immediately impressed with her skill and speed. She never once had to clean up the gel Polish; every swipe was meticulously applied and no need for any touch ups. The pedi was equally impressive. I've been having my nails done for 35 years and never has anyone done the service in the order that Sherrie did but after she explained her rationale, it made total sense. The real proof was how great my hands and feet looked when she was done. For the first time ever I had a gel Polish on my toes and let me tell you, it's the best! Lasts forever, stays shiny, and you can walk out of salon immediately with no fear of a smudge. I swim every day and wear Finns. Usually my toe Polish gets ruined but not with the gel. They still look perfect two weeks later. I'll never go back to regular Polish again! Received so many compliments on my nails! Looking forward to my next appointment with Sherrie and will definitely call and book my appointment in advance. Sherrie is super friendly and I enjoyed our conversation as much as the nail service.
